I was never a mac n cheese girl, I was more of a steak girl or what not. Although if you want an awesome noodles recipe....

Put a little oil on the bottom of a 2qt pan
After the oil is heated up a little, stir in some diced onions for a few moments
Then put a cup of shell noodles in the pan
Stir the noodles, browning them a little bit (up to 5 minutes)
Put a cup of tomato sauce in the pan then enough water to cover the noodles
Simmer the noodles until the water is basically all gone and you are left with a thick sauce and noodles
(Optional) Stir in some 2% cheddar cheese

I made this for MIL a couple times and almost every time I go over to visit now she asks me if that is what I am making.

Ok now enough of the food porn.

This weekend was a bit difficult for me, I was just kind of feeling off. I probably ate a bit too much and I ate some salty things. Oh well.

Yesterday, DH and I were perusing Barnes & Noble and we found a discounted Karate DVD and flash card set. So we bought it. Last night we did about half of the DVD (It is a 2 hour instructional DVD) with warmup and cooldown. Today, we are both sore. It was incredibly fun. I think we will be looking for a karate studio sometime soon. We want to practice some of the moves at home and get a general idea although we know it can't compare to a real class.

Fru, Good job on the figs as opposed to the mac. That stuff is poison all wrapped up in gooey orange coating. I'm not sure who posted it but that right left split sounded hella cool. I agree - be a test dummy er I mean Trendsetter and let us know how it works out. I've hurt one side before and never thought to try that. It might be cool!

Hang in there everybody that had rough weekends with the dinner plates. Today is a new day and yesterday doesn't count cause you can't go back and uneat anything. Let's make today so clean that by nightfall we all are squeaking.

I have another food challenge today in that a friend of mine's mother passed away and although I am not attending the actual funeral, I agreed to be a server at the repass so I will be shoveling out plates of food that I can not eat. I had a great workout this AM followed by a solid breakfast, I have tuna, boiled egg whites, sugar free relish and mustard to make a salad with that I'll take with me to eat over salad greens when I get hungry there and I also brought a honey dijon and green bean LC entree to eat before I go so I won't walk in the door hungry. There that should do it!

Lydia, glad you like my signature. For me dirty = sweaty = stinky which means extra deo before hitting the gym!

I will try the left right split tomorrow! Although TBH my right side doesn't need any more working out (which is the ok side...) and my left is usually the weaker side.

I have to teach tonight, which I'm not particularly looking forward to since I'm a bit bummed about the whole knee issue - I even called my instructor to see if he could take my class but he's up to his eyes in rewiring his house... I will be ok, but I'm just feeling a bit fragile!

I think I've dug myself out of my pity party hole and have planned tomorrow's food properly. I will make everything tonight so that I don't have any excuse tomorrow morning. I think if I was a bit more organised this morning I wouldn't have headed for the fig rolls, but today's food was less than inspiring! Never mind, learn a lesson every day!

Good one Nelie. Man, it can have that affect on me. And Fru, I love fig newtons too. The texture, the taste, whew, I gotta stop. I'm drooling here and I've just recommited to logging back into Fitday and getting rid of my winter girth here. It's going to be a long haul this week. Where's my green tea?!

Had an okay workout this morning. Hit the gym at 8:50 for 35 minutes on the elliptical. Did a little upper body freeweight work and then used cable machines for the larger muscle group. It's been a while since I've used them and I have really lost strength there. Back to the basics for the next four weeks for me. Twenty minutes into the strength training the fire alarm went off in the gym. The way everyone was reacting it didn't seem like an accident. So, I peeled out of the fitness area and went to pick up DS2. The workers in the Childwatch area are awesome. It just a few moments they had all the children lined up at the door and ready to vacate the to the outside play area. They have their own door to the outside. DS2 was really nervous looking but wasn't crying. I could see the relief on his little three year old face when I picked him up. One of the attendants told me that DS happened to be right under the speaker when the alarm went off. DS immediately dropped on the ground to his tummy, covered his ears and waited for help. I guess he was a little shook up. The best part for him was that he got to see the big fire trucks show up just as we were walking out to our car.

Awwww bless little DS!

I'm reporting that I rescued the day yesterday - even with fig rolls and a chocolate bar at lunch! I managed to scrape in around 1700kcals, which wasn't so bad considering I was aiming for 1650 yesterday I'm happy with that but the scales have shot up an amazing 3.5lbs since Saturday morning - I'm hoping it's water from the antibiotics and not 12250 extra kcals worth of chinese, pizza, scones and chocolate!

I've got great food packed today - pineapple CC pancakes, chicken breast and whole wheat bread, BfL apple and cranberry pie and apples and cherries

I'm back to the gym today - you can't keep me out of there for long! Not too sure about squats, but it can only hurt!

Way to bounce back Fru!

Lydia, I loved the story about your little man. I am sure he was major shook up but he didn't lose it, cry or get completely uncontrollable and that is wonderful. If things had been worse (thank God they weren't) he wouldn't have caused anyone trouble in trying to rescue him.

Hi everybody else out there in Chickland. I survived all the food yesterday, but made it a point to not serve the high carb high fat stuff. I opted to serve roast turkey and baked chicken and left the other stuff for other servers to ladle out. I packed up a tray of stuff for DD which she ate for dinner. I also packed up and deliverd to my EX hubby two pieces of high-carb/fat iced brown stuff and two huge slices of sweet potatoes gone wild. He is trying to lose weight and I (being the thoughtful woman that I am) knew that he couldn't resist them!! Did I mention for Christmas he got me a cat (knowing I'm allergic to them)? Yep, revenge is a dish best served in high caloric quantities!

I'm gonna put in a word about bands again, just in case there's any lurkers about. I worked yesterday and walked after supper so I wasn't really prepared to go lift weights but I wanted to do something. I just sat in front of a couple of comedy shows with my band.
My arms are nicely tired this morning.

Hi all! Stayed up till one am reading a book; what a fool! No matter what time I go to bed, I wake up early (at 4:30-5), so that was a disaster. Was able to fall back to sleep around 6 for another hour, but had no time to workout, and I was really looking forward to it. Another example of my control inability....like with binge eating, it is so tempting to me as a speed reader to go through a whole book at a sitting. That may have been ok when I was younger, but now my body and head can't take it. I am going to suffer today and tonight, but I am determined to get my bi/back workout in. And maybe even my cardio....I get really itchy without the cardio. Someone pointed out a nice treadmill set of routines in Prevention magazine...you can find them on line....tried them on the weekend, great fun. One part has you doing lunges on the treadmill, at about 1.5 mph.

Lydia, your poor DS! That was a sweet story.

Fru, I haven't had fig newtons in a while, but my favorite were the stale ones...that shows how depraved I am. When they are stale they are both really crunchy and chewy. Yummmm!

Tiki, like the way you planned for protecting yourself while at the repass. Planning is half the battle I think. Nasty, nasty, but delish on the ExDH front!

Hope all goes well for everyone today!

tiki You meanie

I skived the gym - I was a bit bound up in work. HOWEVER I am off kickboxing tonight and I will ask if I can use the gym for an hour before hand (I'm registered there but I don't have my card with me) and I will get some weights done. It'll be a nice habit to get into

Ah, the sun has returned! I ran thru the house this morning opening all the blinds as I felt it break thru the clouds. It's been a dreary couple of days here and it's always amazing to realize what an impact it has on my day. I need to move to LA! Actually, we had a huge amount of sunshine days in colorado surprisingly, (like in excess of 300), but I couldn't take the winters there! It hardly rained, and we had dead grass to prove it (we were in the foothills/prairies of eastern colorado), but I loved the blue skies!

I'm sore today! Last night was night #2 of Karate DVD. It is really fun, DH and I like it a lot. I also looked into Karate Dojos nearby and there is one not too far away. Our area has a lot of Korean martial arts studios and few japanese and chinese but I did find a japanese Karate studio. Hmm.. We are thinking about it but not quite committed.

Nelie, what is the difference in the dojos of different countries? Do they teach different techniques? Are certain ones better for certain types of m/a? I'm glad you found some closeby!

Fran,
They are just different styles. There are even different forms within each style. Karate has a lot of linear hand movements and kicks but I believe very few throws. Others have more leg movements or more throws or weapons or different styles. Aikido uses an attackers force against them. While Karate uses more of your force against an attacker. Both are Japanese styles of martial art though. Although I'd like to try a martial art that uses a weapon, I believe Karate doesn't use any weapons. I don't know much as I'm only starting to look into it.

I'm sorry because I know the answer is here somewhere but can someone give me a quick explanation as to why the rest period time is necessary between strength training sessions? I have a coworker here who just started working out again and wants to do the same workout on back to back days. I know the rest is necessary but wasn't sure as to exactly why.

Thanks!

When you lift weights you break down muscle. It needs time to rest, recover and build itself up stronger.
