Cassi--where do you buy the Almond Breeze? Which one do you use? It counts as a condiment? How does it taste in comparison to milk/or soy milk? I really like the 8th Continent light vanilla right now in my cereal or a little with my oatmeal but the idea of not burning a dairy is appealing.

The Almond Breeze comes in a 32 oz carton and it is unrefrigerated. I get mine in the organic section of the grocery store with the other soy milks, rice dream, etc. They also make vanilla and chocolate, but they have 90 calories, so I'm sure it's more than 2 condiments. But... I just looked at the e-mail the dietician sent me and the information I was given was 40 calories not 60. I will re-send this to the dietician today and see what response I get.

Cassi and Lea Ann: I drink the Almond Breeze Unsweetened Vanilla flavor and 8oz (1 cup) has 40 calories.
Here's a link to their site: http://www.bluediamond.com/retail/breeze/index.cfm and the different flavors they have. I try to stick to the Unsweetened kind because of the lower calories.

I bought the original because I didn't know the unsweetened existed. Anyhoo, I e-mailed the dietician with both to get clarification on how to count this. Since I already have my meals planned until Friday, I figure if I go over by 40 calories, it shouldn't result in a gain. I'm takin' my chances, but only for a few more days.

so I don't normally post on this page, but i am thinking about it. i checked in here to see if holly has been posting. has anyone heard from her? also, Joni, I always mix up my proteins and veggies doing express. i find it interesting how we all get different info from our CODs. i have had a decent loss every time on express/ff, and all i do is stick with all meats and green veggies and 4 oranges. you had good luck with your express this time, didn't you?
Little off in proteins and had my starches pretty late but all in all it worked out.

angie: that's a great start but limit your "darker" meats to 2 times a week and try not to have it more than once in the same day. they take longer to break down than the "lighter" meats. otherwise, good menu and good luck!
also, i believe light cheese is a dairy.. not sure which one you are using.
Angie

:) Thanks for the advice about red meat Nikki, I'm switching to poultry for tomorrow. Today I used the lite cheese as a vegetarian protein (4oz=1P), I find the meat a lot to take in for one day.
Here's what I've got planned for tomorrow. (Advice always welcome)
Breakfast: 4 inch Pita (1S), 1 tbsp cream cheese (1F), 1 banana (1Fr)
Snack: Lite (1L)
Lunch: Chicken parmesan (2P), salad (2V), garlic bread (2S)
Snack: Yogurt
Dinner: 3.5 oz Turkey breast (1P), 1c broccoli (1V), 1c Turnip (1V)
Snack: Lite
I'm anticipating temptation tomorrow evening as we sometimes watch a movie on Friday nights, so by saving the lite until then, I am hoping to curb the cravings.
ETA: Ack! I just remembered (6:00 a.m. Friday) that I'm taking a friend out to lunch today. I'm adjusting my plan around that. I'm just worried that I'll feel hungry in the morning since we won't meet for lunch until 1:00. Any tips?

Where did you hear it was listed as protein? I use lite cheese all the time and would LOVE not to give up my dairy for it! You are doing very well so far on the program :)
Angie
01-12-2007, 07:02 AM
Nikki, my COD person told me that. It's listed under veg-protein on pg 8 of my red book. I think I'll use it as my 1/2 P on some days because it's really quite a lot of cheese.
bizlawchik
01-12-2007, 09:03 AM
The cheese IS listed as a vegetarian protein, but they will tell you not to "combine" your proteins that often. I don't know if all COD's are like this, or just mine, but they didn't like it when I would have chicken with beans (think enchilada) or meat and cheese (think sandwich). They said use a whole protein on one thing. Just a warning, but if you're COD doesn't say anything and you don't see any slow down in your losses, do what works for you. You will notice a bunch of advice on your menus from the COD at the beginning. :)

Libby: when you find out where, look in your book (if it's a franchise). I feel it helps. Also, restaurants put a lot of fat and salt into their food so do some lemon water so you're not up at your next WI. Good luck :) and they're are no substitutions, normally you would be on purple so they bumped you up to red!
DenverChick
01-12-2007, 02:34 PM
Oh, I get it! Is red more food? They said I would go to purple when I hit 197.
Anyway, I have been pestering DH to find out where we are going. This is his buddy and wife but they are not great planners. I am keeping my fingers crossed for Red Lobster or Outbacks since they are in my book. If not, I'm going generic and asking for broiled meat without any sauces, etc. I will double up on the lemon water today though just in case.
This is a huge challenge for me because one of my weak spots in restraint at restaurants. I'd prefer not to be put to this test until I had some more time on LAWL but I don't have much of a choice - sigh... Keep your fingers crossed for me. I'd hate to be off plan on my first real day!

Rhonda--the string cheese I have found is always labeled "Light" and I have it in both Frigo and Kraft and both packages are lighter blue--that's how I spot them. Anyway--tossed the bag--but I am pretty sure they are around 50 calories and 4.5 fat grams, and I think 9g. protein which is the biggy--almost positive anyway.

I messed up with my fruit today. I'm not supposed to have it in the evening, but my orange was bad, so I threw it away. I've never really seen a bad orange before, but when I peeled this one it was oozing and slimy inside. Yuck!

I'm going to try to help you. Do you record your food in your dairy and show it to the counselors at your center? If you do, they should be fired... immediately. You really need some help with your dairy (take no offense, this diet is the hardest to get used to in my opinion) and the counselors should have helped you. (if you're not going, i'd suggest go. they WILL help)
First, you are having two extra startches (LA twists count as a starch and I believe so do the grits) and also an extra dairy. That may not seem like a bad thing but on this diet it could hurt it. You are also having three whole proteins as opposed to 2 1/2. (1/2 c. egg beaters is 1/2 protein). You are also having an extra fruit and fruits have sugar so that's not the best thing to have extras of. You are also missing two vegetables. Why don't you try and add a tomato or onion into your salad to have it count as two? Or grab some baby carrots with dressing.
I hope this helps you and good luck!

Angie - The sea bass looks good, and any of the salads are good. You can always "treat" yourself and order the real dressing on the side and then dip your fork in the dressing before you stab the greens. And remember that a restaurant will salt everything, so even if you are OP, don't freak if you have a slight gain in the next day or two. Just hit the hot lemon water for the next two days and you'll be ok. You could have the thai tacos and only have one tortilla, or no tortillas and eat it like a stir fry. Veggie burger is ok too. I would also take Dan's advice (I think it was Dan) and order a salad and a big glass of water when you sit down. That is, if you're not having a big salad as your meal. Then you will have your hands and mouth full when any of the other really yummy looking appetizers come.
Good luck tonight. This place looks really good!

Even if there are mistakes in it (I did not catch any but then again I am no expert and need help myself at times) I believe you are doing quite well adjusting to the diet for only being on it two days. I had such a hard time planning meals at first and would have to snack alot just to make up the portions and end up going to bed hungry from not eating full meals. Good luck and keep up the great work, you can do this :)

You're probably only over by less than 100 calories. Drink your lemon water now and tonight so your body has time to get rid of the water before you go to bed.
