I'm hoping to start C25K again this weekend (though I haven't decided if I'll start tomorrow or Sunday).
I started this one time before - I made it a couple of weeks, but admittedly not very far. Then Christmas happened and I just never got back into it...
My biggest problem seemed to be not being able to breathe - I was tired and it was difficult, of course, but it was the breathing that I found most difficult. Any suggestions?
I'm currently up to about five or six miles now and what's helped me is finding a pace. You have to find something sustainable and stick there. Try to find your breathing pattern. At first this will be tough but in time, with the correct pace, it becomes challenging but enjoyable.

I've now managed the Week 4 workout 2 days in a row. Yesterday I got back from running, showered, then my energy was through the roof for maybe an hour. Then I crashed, I just felt drained the rest of the day. It sure wore me out. Today I have to help my brother move and don't have time to run beforehand. I'm hoping to get a run in when I get back.
Curlysue82- Good luck with your 10K. I know for me doing a 5K before I was "ready" really helped me. It lit a fire under me and got me excited about running. I actually hope to do a 10k at some point in the future (but right now I'm just focused on my upcomming 5K ) Just remember distance running is mostly mental, I believe you will do well and finish strong.
Good Morning all
Thanks a million Scarlett, yesterday i ran the womens flora mini Marathon in Dublin Ireland there was 40000 women doing it for all charities.. and i won hahaha no no but i was delighted at my time, i got over the line in 1 hr and 22 mins, i was so suprised at the pace i could keep . there were intervals of walking to catch my breath but the feelings over the line was incredible.. i think a large part of the last 3k was strong mentality, cos some of them were tough but you are so right it was a mentality thing... mind over matter and all that
and as a little bonus i am down 3lb this morning and have broken through 40lb
its a good day.. sorry for the long reply.. i'm still on the adrenalin rush i guess
i have now got the running bug.. once my aches subside a bit lol

way to go curly sue, I just started c25k yesterday and I am very excited to be working the program finally after months of putting it off and being too nervous. Your post is exactly what I want to feel! Happy and proud and able to participate in the community events I respect so much!
Great job Curlysue!! That’s a phenomenal time, especially considering you walked some. I know what you mean about the adrenaline. When I did my first 5K, it just consumed me. Something about being around so many people just naturally makes you give it your all and then some. I was EXHAUSTED and EXHILIRATED at the end of it. I was also really sore for a few days. I'm into the final countdown until my next 5K I only have 8 more workouts until it comes. I'm so excited. Also, congratulations on 40 pounds.
AshleighAO- welcome to C25K. I found the progress you make early in the program so amazing and motivating. I would recommend signing up for a 5K even if you won't be finished with the program by the time you do it. Something about having a race to train for keeps you going on days you would normally forget about working out.
I'm taking today off from running. I've been running about 6x a week since the week after my last 5k. I've noticed that as weird as this sounds, it's harder to lose weight while running. On weeks where I'm watching my calories and losing I definitely feel it in my energy level when I run. On weeks where I don't lose I have much more energy. I know this is short term though, having 20 pounds less to carry around will definitely make running easier in the big picture. Yesterday I felt tired and sore and barely got through half my run. My abs were killing me, I even felt them hurting in bed at night. The good news is I can feel my abs. hopefully after a day off and a good night's sleep, my energy will be though the roof and I'll have a great run tomorrow.

Cheers Scarlett i am delighted
well done to you 6 runs that is hardcore.. a good nights sleep and rest will defn help the aches and pains.. bath with epsom salts..
Hey Girls I havent been on here for awhile. Scarlett it sounds like you are doing great! Keep it up.
Well I am going to have to come back to week 8. Allergies have knocked me on my rear and I am having a hard time getting a good run in and I was hoping to be back at it yesterday and I wasnt. Sooooooo what I did was took a few steps back and went back to shorter intervals just til I can get over the crud and get back at it. I was suprised tho because I am able to run faster than what I was on the intervals and Im not winded. I got a flier and I am planning on signing up for my first 5k on July 4 its a morning run so good luck to me. Have a wonderful day all you C25K girls!
Curlysue82 thanks for the support. I usually have a ton of energy after a day off so it should be alright. Plus we're having burgers tonight for dinner, so I'll probably eat a little more. I think part of my problem has been that cutting calories has decreased my energy. I made my "final countdown" workout chart and am looking forward to Xing off the days as I do the runs.
dmam82 good luck, just keep at it. I don't think many people make it through this program without a step back or two. I have full confidence that you'll get though it.

Scarlett- I actually have plans with my partner, my brother and my sister to do the Race for a Cure in Sept! Enrollment hasn't happened so we aren't "signed up" but we are planning on it and all 3 of those people mentioned can already do 5k's so they are my support system! I'm super excited!
gnat7-congrats on your wedding!!!!! When I first started c25k my calves did the same thing. I can tell you tho nothing beats it when you start "feeling the burn" in you abs!!!! Good luck to you!
curleysue congrats on your run that is fantastic! I am counting down til my first one its a 5k on the fourth of july I am so excited to finally be doing this Its even better when you have a goal!
I've been kind of up and down with week 4. I'll do it completely once or twice then have a day or so where I just CAN'T do the entire 5 minute intervals. I think the mini heat wave around here didn't help; also a few nights of poor sleep drained my energy. I've just felt heavier and less energetic trying to run in general. Hopefully this is a phase that will pass.
Previously I struggled with the transition to week 4. I did the week 3 workout 5 days in a row to prepare myself. Even though it still kicked my but on day 5, I was convinced that getting through it 5X meant I was ready to move on. I'm going to try and string a few days of completing week 4 together. Hopefully this will just be a minor blip. The good news is I've been consistently dragging myself outside to run.
I don't think I'm going to be where I want to for next Saturday's 5K but I'm definitely in better running shape than I was for my last one. I should have a better time, plus I'm 10 pounds lighter. All good things.
A quick post to tell you ladies that reading about your running successes, I am literally getting up and getting on the treadmil. Like right now. I was going to do it earlier after my first workout, but then lost my motivation and just sat on the couch instead. Maybe I'll even do a 5K. Thanks for the inspiration! Heading for the shoes...
