Default Oprah's Boot camp, week 1 starting 2/14/05

Hello all!

Oprah is starting a 12 week blitz to a new body. Here is the link to her website http://www2.oprah.com/presents/2005/...amp_main.jhtml if you want to check it out.

Starting tomarrow, 2/14, I'm making the commitment. My plan is to incorporate Dr. Phil's philosophies and keys into this jump start to fittness. I need a kick in the rear and this is it. If you'd like to join me, then WELCOME!!! I'm sure we will all need the support.

I will post some of my breakfast ideas here as that seems like it will be the hardest meal to fit into this plan. I have DS (Ben, 5 months) in my hands right now so I'll do it as soon as I have a couple hands

Well I am going to give it a try because I really need to do something to kick myself into gear. I tried the rapid start plan again but got way off track because of my son being sick and regained about 3 lbs. I happened to notice that Bob Greene has a new book out from last month which sounds pretty much like this program. I've got it on reserve at the library but I might have a look at it at the book store just to see what he's got for breakfast ideas. I can't say that I am too much into eat veggies for breakfast!! Also I'm hoping that Oprah's site is going to have more ideas on how much protein we should be eating. It can't be unlimited, does she mean like just a regular serving for each meal?? I suppose that basically this is similar to dr. phil's plan except for the whole grain carb servings and the dairy. I'd like to have a look at his book to see what he says about the dairy because women cannot go for that long with no dairy. I'd hate to buy another diet book though because I feel like I"ve supported the diet industry enough over the past 20 years or so. Is anyone going to buy this book if they are doing the program? For the exercise I"m also just going to do 5 days a week but I will try to up the intensity as she describes.

Here are a couple of my breakfast ideas. I too am curious about the dairy. I chose some plain nonfat yougurt with berries for breakfast when creating my meal plan. I know yogurt is "white", but I don't think it lands in this starch and sugar category.

Jen-Makes sense that this program coinsides with Bob Greene's new book. I hadn't realized that. I don't plan on buying it. Like you I feel I've spent enough on the diet industry. If I get to a library I may look through it.

Blueberry Smoothie

1 1/2 cups blueberries, frozen
1/2 cup water, or ice
1 t splenda (I leave this out)
2 1/3 Tablespoons almonds, sliced

Obviouly this is a smoothie so you just toss in a blender and blend.

1 egg
2 egg whites
1 1/2 ounces cheddar cheese, lowfat, grated

Eggs are a lean protein, right?

Chicken Breakfast Suasage (this came form the meal plans listed on Dr. Phil's site)
3 ounces ground chicken breast
1 cup spinach
herbs
1 ounce lowfat cheddar cheese

The directions pretty much said saute, I think you's leave the cheese out until right before it's cooked

Egg's Florentine (another one from Dr. Phil's site)
1 egg
2 egg whites
1 cup spinach
2 ounces feta cheese, reduced fat
1/2 melon, chunks
Poach eggs and serve over sauted spinach with cheese; serve with melon chunks

Joe's Scramble (also from Dr. Phil's Site)
2 ounces ground chicken
mushroom
onion
garlic
chopped spinach
1 egg
2 egg white
1 medium tomato, sliced

Scramble everything except tomato, then serve with tomato slices

OJ Smoothie

1/2 cup orange juice
1 orange, peeled
3/4 cup water or ice cubes
2 1/3 tablespoons almonds, sliced

Peach smoothie
1 3/4 cups peaches, fresh or frozen
1/2 cup water, or ice
1 teaspoon splenda
2 1/3 Tablespoons almonds, sliced

Yogurt Parfait (Dr. Phil's site)
1 cup plain nonfat yogurt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup berries
1/2 cup kashi Go Lean Cereal (leave out the first month)

Mix yogurt, cin., and vanilla, layer with berries and after the first month the cereal

Some of these may not work for the bootcamp plan. I think they do, but I have to double check the details once they are avaiable. If you don't thinks omethingf its the rules, let me know any advice is certainly welcome. I ahve never done anything like this. I've really only tried slimfast and WW, never anything with certain food restrictions.

I don't plan on eating this any eggs in a week or anything, they are just some ideas I found.

Well DH is yelling for me to come watch the kids, so I guess my computer time is up HAve a greta night. I can't wait til tomarrow.

Well here it is! Valentine's Day and the first day of bootcamp! I am weighing in at 228.4 lbs. I'm going to try and find some more info today either from having a look at Bob's book or getting the O Magazine if it has more info than what is on the web site. I"ll post anything I find out. Have a great day everyone and good luck!!

Happy Valentines Day!!!
Welcoem To Boot Camp!

Well it's here! The first day. I went to Oprah's site signed up for all the info. Hopefully there is more coming.

So far there are three of us

Misty
Jen
Blissful

I am so excited. I feel strong and committed and with the help of you ladies I feel I can do this. I'm counting on you all

I am currently printing out new journals I created in excel. I created a meal plan in master cook. I have to review it to make sure it fits in and then I am popping it in my notebook. I have a three ring binder with all my progress charts I have made and journals, as well as workout ideas, recipes and stuff. I am removing all my WW stuff from it. I plan on doing WW after boot camp, but I don't want it there taking up space.

So now it's breakfast with DD (Audrianna aka AJ, 21 months) and workout number 1. I think today will be a double up the workout day. Get it out of teh way right off. I'm thinking the second workouts on Monday and Thursday, and doing the double cardio day on Wednesday. Gives me Tuesday with just the single workout to recover, Friday and Saturday to do the single workouts and SUnday off. If I miss oneof the second workouts on Monday or Thursday I still have Friday and Saturday in the week to catch up.

I printed out the contract on Oprah's site and am going to sign and put it on my fridge. Is anyone else doing this?

I am also going to try to focus on 1 key a week from Dr. Phil for the first 7 weeks. This week is Right Thinking. How do you guys incorporate right thinking in your lives?

Better run AJ is up and ready to get out of Bed.

Welcome Mrs. Nuce!! This is going to be great!

I just finished the first work out only 95 more to go LOL. Ok can't think of it that way yet, seems like too many. It felt good though. I did 30 minutes on the treadmill increasing my speed by .2 or incline by 1 every two minutes. I alternated them. I started small only 2.6 mph and 0 incline. It's been a while since I worked out and so I figured I'd start small. I was really sweating by the time I finished though. Then I did 20 minutes of weights. I'm not really sure what to do with them I've never actually used them and I had them for about 8 years LOL. So I did 10 reps of the 1 of the moves they have on Oprah's site, took a 15 second break and did 10 more until I had been doing that for 5 minutes and then did the next of the four moves. Four moves times five minutes each gave me 20 minutes.

I have a set of 5 DVD's with 10 different workouts. I am going to see if I can incorporate them a couple days a week for either the resistence or the cardio.

I hope you don't mind but I am probably going to post alot, especially early on. It keeps me on track.

Well off to play some learning games with AJ! Have a good one all!

I had a quick look at O Magazine at the grocery store and there wasn't any more info than what is on her web site so I don't think she's got any hard and fast rules at this point except for not eating carbs. I had a egg white omlet with green peppers and ham and also added in 1 whole egg, 1/2 banana, that was breakfast. I went to the gym, did 30 minutes on the elliptical machine and 20 minutes on the weight machines. I don't care for free weights, at least not at the gym, I'd rather use the machines. For lunch I am using one of my carb days to finish off some left over spaghetti and I've added in about 2 cups of veggies. Overall I'd say the day is going pretty good. I'll probably be posting a lot too so don't worry about it misty. At least you can't eat while you type!

Go figure this okay, I get to work and they've got a buffet laid out in the back, nothing whatsoever that I can eat, no veggie tray or fruits and of course everything looked just amazing. But I didn't eat one thing, I'm sticking to this no matter what. I have to, I'm just sick of being so fat, I can't take it anymore. So I'm eating tuna, melon and I had a couple of glasses of V8. I know it is better to have real veggies but I figured it was better than being tempted by cookies and cake.

Anyone have any specific weight goals for these 12 weeks? I'm hoping to get under 200 which would be like 29 lbs. That might be a big of a stretch but actually I'm thinking with a complete carb cutback that it might be feasible.

I printed out Oprah's boot camp contract and I'll hang it on the fridge after I put lots of big red stars on it so it is more noticable. I might print out a couple more and hang them around the house to keep me on track. I think the hardest bit is just going to get used to not snacking on cookies and crackers but I"m hoping that if I can stick to it for a couple of weeks that the cravings for this stuff will subside.

Good evening ladies.

Blissful- Don't worry about what the scale saystoday, look forward to what it will say in the future

Jen- Great job avoiding the buffet!!!! That had to be a difficult situation, but you made the descion to stick to your plan an dyou did it! I am not going to set a weight goal. I am just going to set a time goal of making it through the 12 weeks. I seem to keep missing my weight goals and it's depressing. I am just going to focus on doing my best.

I caught bits and pieces of Oprah. The kids were whining and crying the ENTIRE time and the phone kept ringing. It comes on a 4 here and most days AJ is content to play on her own and Ben usually sleeps, but not today. So I didn't get much more information than I had before. I did catch that you need to make a descion to succeed, and 5 of the 6 rules they mention.

I had a yummy turkey herb soup for dinner with baked squash. Dh had steak and baked potatoes. He made it himself. Aj had a combination of both dinners. I am going to do a second workout, a dvd, as soona s dinner settles down. I drank 2 quarts plus of water, I had to stop to pee in the middle of my first workout LOL.

I signed the contract ann put it on my fridge, I am going to make a couple more like Jen suggested. We'll see how much harassment I get from my father in law and my brother in laws. They live across the road and bug me about everything I do. But I don't care. They are all fat, so when I am skinny I'll be the one who gets the last laugh.

Well I should hit that work out. It will feel good to have it out of the way.

Happy Valentines Day aka S.A.D. (Singles Awareness Day!!)

I would like to join you all in the boot camp. I happened to stay home from work today, and by chance caught the Oprah show. I'm very glad I did. I've struggled with my weight all my life. I have finally decided to do something about it. I'm weight in at 340, my highest weight ever. I've also joined at Oprah's site, and signed the contract. I've printed it out and hung it next to my bathroom mirror. Hopefully this will help to get me motivated to work out in the mornings! Since I missed this morning, I'm going to get in a workout tonight. Come tomorrow morning, maybe knowing that I finished a workout tonight will help get me out of bed when the dreaded alarm clock goes off!

Charlotte

Week 1 OBC 2/14 ~ 340

WELCOME CHARLOTTE!! There must have been a reason you stayed home today, maybe something more than luck that you caught a show that will change things for you.

Well, I'm exhausted!! I tried to do the dvd but AJ was crawling through my legs the whole time as I tried to do lunges, so I hit the tread mill and managed to get in 11 minutes or so beofre Ben started screaming. He's teething, he got his first tooth Saturaday so there is another one on it's way. So I had to cash in for the night as far as exercise goes. I had a really hard time not eating after 8. I am hungry, not just I want to eat b/c I have the munchies, but actually having growling stomach. I felt ful after dinner, so not sure what's up with that. I managed, but I did have two cups of tea. They were 0 calories, so its not really eating, right?

So I am going to bed feeling good about how the day went. I managed to get in two workouts (even though one was cut short and I will try to make up a full second session two more days this week). I ate well, I didn't obsess over points. It feels great. We are succeeding!!
