Thumbs down

I hope you don't think I'm being presumptuous since I'm new, but the other thread was getting a bit long, which is a good thing, right .

Angie, ha ha on Everest. I read Krakow's (sp?) book and I am not into pain. When I hike I want it to be a pleasurable experience, not something that makes my skin crack and bleed, gives me diarrhea, etc., etc. It's best that you stick to one team, hockey can take up too much of your life.

Jody, it took me a while to build up the miles. I started by walking one lap around the park by my house. When I complained to DH about the pain he said "SLOW DOWN". So I did and it made it a better experience so I kept at it. You have to build up at your own pace, no one else's. Persistence is the key, as well as not getting injurred. If a team makes it all the way to the Stanley Cup round then they will have played at least 10 months of hockey. The preseason games start around mid to the end of September, and the final Stanley Cup game would occur around the first week of June. So July and August are the only two months without hockey!!

Speaking of walking, I had a great time on mine today. I made 4.5 miles in 65:12 minutes (4.14 mph). That's a personal best and I think I owe it to the hiking I've been doing. It's building up my legs and lungs.

Have a great Mother's Day Weekend all!

Just a quick note to let you all know that I was down a pound at WI today. I was hoping for more, but will be happy with any loss!

My goal for Mother's Day is to walk 10 miles. THis will take planning and effort, but I am determined to do it!

Kathi, congrats on the loss. Is that 10 miles in one day, or by Mother's Day. Good luck to you on that goal.

The goal is 10 miles ON Mother's Day!!! Ambitious, I know! But, not 10 miles at one time. I plan to walk a mile or two in the morning, keep my pedometer on all day (hopefully will equal at least a mile) while we go to brunch etc., walk a 3-4 mile route when we get home, take my kids to the park and walk a mile in laps while they play, and then walk whatever is left at night.

And then I will spend Monday in bed!! :O

Kathi

PS- anyone want to join me on my Mother's Day challenge?

Hi everyone. Feeling lousy today - some type of upper respir. infection - YUCK! But I am excited to say that I lost another 2 on Saturday and finally got that 10lb ribbon - I only paid about $80 for that .02cent ribbon

I'm not sure how much exercise I'll get in this week since I'm wheezing so bad right now ... better stay OP with my points!! Like Cynthia said before - stay OP with points even if that means exercising to offset a bad day.

Chat with you all later.

Default Hi all!

Well, my plans for Mother's Day did not quite pan out. I started off the day with a two mile walk, but that was all I got in. With all of the festivities with my in-laws, we did not gethome until past dinner time. I was so sore from working in the yard on Saturday, that I knew I wasn't going to be able to walk anymore. I felt bad that I didn't complete my challenge to myself, but at least I got that two mile walk in!

Kim: Congrats on the 10 lb star! Slow and steady wins the race! I hope you feel better.

Good afternoon ladies, got my 30-lb star today and I'm psyched. I've lost 31.8 lbs so far which means I'm 1/4th of the way there. I can do this!!

kathi, hey, at least you made a goal and got some walking in. I didn't exercise at all on Mother's Day so you are certainly one up on me.

Kim, well, you should take it easy if you are sick, don't want to make matter worse. Congrats on that ribbon - does your center reward just every 10 lbs? I agree, they sure are expensive things, aren't they?

Cynthia: CONGRATULATIONS! That is so awesome. I checked out your website and saw your charm bracelet and what each of the charms means. That is such a good idea. I wish I had the money to do the same thing! Right now I have to go back to work (only 2 weekends a month) to get our finances back in order. Maybe by the time I reach my 20 pound star, I can get a bracelet. But, you probably don't want everyone copying you!

kathi, you can do it in silver as well and it's much less expensive. If it helps you, then steal away. If I wanted to keep the idea to myself I never would have included it in my web site.

saucy, welcome, you will find a lot of support here. Just let us know when you need some help, and when times are good as well.

I'm trying to decide if I want to hike today or not. The weather lady assured me this morning on tv that there would only be afternoon storms, but the clouds are sure looking grey over the mountains. I'd hoped to go on a long hike today, too. I may be relegated to the gym once again .

I think I'm getting addicted to egg whites. I love egg white omelettes - 3 egg whites filled with sauteed veggies (sauteed in Pam) in the mornings, then I like to have 2 or 3 hardboiled egg whites seasoned with salt, pepper, and yellow mustard with my afternoon tea. Maybe I should buy some chickens

Saucy: Welcome to one of the best places on earth. The support and friendship that you will find at this site is amazing! Congrats on your great start with WW! Is this your first time with WW? It is my 4th (I started and stopped 3 times in a row), my last real go at it was a couple of years ago, and I lost 35 pounds. Now, I have gained that back and then some, so I am back on the wagon and trying my best. I kick myself for ever leaving, because I would probably be at goal right now! Moral of the story? Stick with it!

Quiet today, but the weather is great so it's probably hard sitting behind a computer.

I had a lovely hike today, chose that over heading to the gym. It was hot but better than being in a cool smelly gym. And I enjoyed the exercise rather than just tolerated it. Now I have to take care of some yardwork . Wish I lived in a townhome!!

I had lunch with some friends and they kept going on about how great I looked. One hadn't seen me in 31 pounds, and I was getting a bit embarrassed. It's nice being around people that truly feel happy for you, though, and you know won't diss you behind your back.

Sunday I have a brunch with some more friends at a home and we are all bringing some kind of dish. I know what most are bringing so I've been able to plan. Have a great OP weekend, everyone

Default Hello again!

Wow! It's been awhile since I've been here. I haven't even had time to be a "lurker" lately but I think I'm over the hump.

Don't really know what happened but I felt great pressure to finish my book group book that I waited too long to start! Every time I sat down to read it, I would fall asleep after about 3 paragraphs...and it was a GOOD book! But that was the last book of our season so now I can read leisurely...or not, as the case may be. I prefer to have the choice but I love the group, too.

I have been much more disciplined with my eating and have been forcing more water. I'm chronically constipated so the water is crucial, as is the exercise. Neither my DH nor I enjoy exercise. We are the epitome of sedentary but that is slowly changing. Just recently Ted was diagnosed with diabetes so he wants to increase exercise as a control but he also thinks if he walks more than 35 minutes, he will continue to hate exercise. I guess I need to find a time to add at least another 1/2 hr on my own. But, gosh, I don't want to get up any earlier in the a.m. Somehow, I'm going to add more exercise, tho. I agree, Cynthia, it's way too nice outside and way too yucky in the gym.

Kim - Hope you're feeling better by now. You and Cynthia are doing great on the scales as are Saucytart (love the name) and Kathi. Where is Exercisebimbo? I did lose 1 1/2# on my Monday WI and hope for as much again this week. Keeping busy has really helped me with my eating but I have to be sure to plan to have the right foods on hand so that convenienct choices can still be healthy choices.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Supposed to be a little dreary and cool here which would really be a good time for me to be in the backyard (not quite up the the "garden" description, yet). Need to plant some grass seed and replace a tree. Lost a baby tree to winter kill . "It's May, it's May, the lusty month of May." - now that brings up another good form of exercise!

Chow,
Jody

Good morning all.. I'm just on my way to church but had to tell you the scale gave me a real GIFT yesterday. I only walked about 6 miles al week (and 3 of that was in one day) but I still lost 2. Really don't know how that happened but I am grateful.

Jody - I think your husband will love walking if he doesn't feel he HAS to do it. My husband and I walk about 4 nights a week now - our goal is 5 miles with each session. The problem is we live against a river and so the way back to our house is always the same. He likes change so we may start driving down to the beach and walk the streets (in a real neighborhood) so we walk in a complete square if you will.

Need to run or we'll be lat"er"... we usually make by the third opening song - pathetic.
