Okay, its MONDAY! Time to get the holiday behind us and hopefully the holiday food isn't literally on our behinds now. I did my morning exercises except I didn't do the exercycle. I chose to dust the bedroom instead (Flylady won this am). But I did do my hand weight and leg strengtheners and stretches. Sure makes the body feel better. I'm jazzed to have an OP food day.
I'm ordering a set for my sister for Christmas (and one for me) just 'cause it looks like a cool system (and I read a bit more about 'em somewhere else - and they seem like just the right thing for me).
I'm still learning to use this thing but I was able to update my stats. DOWN 2 POUNDS!! I AM HAPPY!
We're really getting into the holiday season so I've got to be extra careful about journaling every bite. My exercise today was shovelling snow. LOTS of snow and I took a hint from Flylady and have started to declutter.
OK Ladies "onward and downward" through out December.
j-ann, that snow sounds nice, still pretty clear weather here in Colorado, though that's supposed to change tomorrow. Guess I'll just have to go ice skating in order to get the balance and legs in some kind of shape.
I'm joining the exercise group as well! Did one lap around the park today (1-1/2 miles), and this afternoon I rode the spin bike for 20 minutes then did about 15 minutes of free weights. I love having the stuff at home, cuts down on the trip time plus I can use whatever weights I want whenever I want .
Anyone else here use quinoa? I'm finding it to be a great last minute meal item. I just cook it up, add some seeds, raisins, goat cheese, olives, whatever I feel like and have instant pilaf!! 1/4 c dry is 3 points and it cooks to a little over 1/2 cup, very yummy.
I have been doing this WW points thing for about 4 weeks now. I need help with a couple of things. First, exercise I am reading where ya'll are snowboarding and riding horses and doing all of these wonderful things and I don't have the energy or the willpower to do anything. I go to work, I come home and fix supper, clean house and go to bed! When are ya'll working in exercise and how do you motivate yourself to do it?
Second, I really need some ideals for dinner. I have breakfast and lunch down pretty good. But at supper I want something quick and easy. It is also when I want to snack. (Well, actually I like to snack all day.
So if any of you have any ideals or suggestions that might help me out, please let me know.
As far as exercise goes I have to admit I didn't do ANY for a long time. Then I made the decision to start, set a date, looked into classes at my local Y (yep, there's more fat folks than models in those classes!) and MADE MYSELF keep the committment to myself. I started wth aquajogging and now, do that 2 to 3 times a week, do water aerobics once a week and try to get in to swim laps once a week. I chose water cause it's easy on a body that had done NO EXERCISE IN YEARS! I try to do something at least every other day for at least .5 hour a day. I try for an hour but am not always successful. Like tonight the pool was closed because of a problem so I walked for 1/2 hr. outdoors, in the cold. I felt great when I came in.
That's how I got into exercise. Maybe others will chime in too.
As far as dinners go, I'll leave that to the cooks among us. Another member of my household cooks so i just find out in the AM what's planned for dinner then work breakfast, lunch and snacks around it.
Amanda - it does take some dedication to get in the exercise, it's the one thing that's easy to slack off on when life gets busy. However, it's kind of a Catch-22 since it's what gives you the energy to keep up with life in the first place ! I walk first thing in the morning, after a light breakfast but before my shower. That way I start the day off right and it helps me stay OP a bit. It's also my time to kind of meditate. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday I do free weights at home in the evening (and I spend some time on the spin bike to warm up).
As far as cooking, there are satisfying, nutritional stuff you can cook up rather quickly. I'm an organic freak so I head to Wild Oats or Whole Food a lot. If you don't have time to chop veggies, buy the frozen. Anyway, you can add those to the various broths you can buy there for a nice warming soup. Add some garam masala, cardamom, cumin, and dice a little fresh ginger (really helps the digestion) for flavoring, as well as salt and pepper. You can add some rice or various precooked grains to make it heartier (can you tell I'm vegetarain ). My knifework is pretty good so I use fresh veggies and saute them up before adding them to the broth.
Another thing to do with the veggies is cook up a quick stir-fry. The rice can cook while you are stir-frying the veggies and whatever meat or tofu you decide to add. For the sauce I use soy, rice wine vinegar, mirin, and garlic with some arrowroot mixed in water thrown in to thicken the mixture. I am finding all kinds of ways to add in lots of veggies (and variety) because I've notcied an increase in my energy level when I do.
Well, the weather has turned on me, so that could be good if it means snow for the mountains. However it meant walking in cold temps today, but I have the clothes for it and I get pretty warm after a few minutes anyway. I spent a lot of time this evening cooking the pieces for a gingerbread house that I'll assemble tomorrow. I got the mold at William-Sonoma but it takes a few bakings to get all the parts. Can't wait to see it finished, and boy does it smell like the holidays in this house now .
Hi everyone! How was everybody's Thanksgiving? I really overate (for about 4 days!) I'm REALLy not looking forward to my weign in tomorrow, but oh well.
I couldn't wait until Friday so I went ahead and weighed today. I am DOWN 4!!
I waited until after Thanksgiving to weigh for the first time because I didn't think I could handle a disappointment. I am not attending WW meeting trying to do this all alone (with everyone's help on here). So this really excites me. I will probably weigh again on Friday.
It did not do anything but rain here all day today. So, I didn't do the 15 minute walk I had planned. (I really didn't want to exercise, and it was a good excuse). I have heard about a video "walk away the pounds" has anyone here had any experience with that? I would be really interested in finding out more about it. Because I would rather exercise in a controlled environment. I don't like to be cold or hot.
I am going to give a little background now... I live in a very small town in Arkansas. I am married and have a son 8 years old and 2 min doxies. I have been "big" all my life. My mother owns her own small cafe. So, she can sometimes make it a little hard at weight loss. Including my 4 pound major victory this week I would still like to lose another 194 pounds. (Whew, that sounds impossible). But I am drinking my water and staying OP. I am usually way below my points range right now, and hope it stays this easy. However, I am not big on fruit and veggies. I normally don't get all of those in. I am a snack food, meat and cheese type person. Of course, all of those things are bad for me.
I am looking forward to getting to know all of ya'll.
Just a very quick reply this morning. I can't believe its Thursday already. I've had three late nights at work and that has cut out my computer time at night. Hopefully tonight will be better.
J-Ann: WOOOHOO! Good for you for another 2 gone. Keep up your focus, you're doing great. Your snow made our news here this week. I don't mind snow; but not THAT much!! Have fun and be careful!
Dietcokedrinker: Welcome to the group! We'll help all that we can. Maybe tonight I can post my two cents about exercise and dinners. I got married in Eureka Springs ARK. We love it down by the Beaver Lake area. Good luck and congrats on the four pounds gone for you too!!
Jen - Enjoy your snow! We dodged the bullet this time by just a few miles.
Kira - Good to see you again. Good luck with weigh-in.
Better get to work. Wish I didn't have to but.......it pays the bills.
Yea dietcokedrinker!!! Great for you, four pounds is great! I just spent the summer in Eureka Springs, Arkansas it was great. Keep trucking, your gonna make it!
Jen - I'll bet you got lots of APs building that snowman!! Hope you had a great time.
Kira - Hey, at least you know what you did so you won't be too surprised by the WI. Plus you'll have a good starting point and some motivation to get back OP. Good luck
DCD - I too am doing WW at home, so to speak. There are so many great websites for info so it's not too hard. And with the message boards I can get daily support rather than weekly. As far as the veggies go, I would work some in slowly. I've been experimenting with going "seasonal" and am liking the results. Right now I'm eating cooked veggies - greens sauteed with a little oil and spices, roasted root veggies, spaghetti squash with lots of sauteed veggies mixed in, etc. I'm finding I'm staying full for a long time. I think these hot veggies are more satisfying than cold salads. The spices help a lot too. I read that if you can satisfy all 6 tastes in one meal then your brain will be satisfied as well as your stomach.
Oh, and try your library for some workout videos. That way you can test them out before spending your money.
Add me as another person who's been to Eureka Springs. DH had to go there after getting his new Talon back in 1991. It had all wheel drive and I guess they have one of the best roads there for fast cars. Unfortunately for him we went during hunting season so the drive was less than spectacular - too many darn trucks going slow looking for game .
Got the gingerbread house and accessories completely finished today! Thank goodness because that royal icing got in my hair and on my face, what a mess. I baked a few extra pieces for an evening snack, can't wait.
OHMYGOSH!!! I was just typing in my journal when I realized I had a NSV today and didn't even realize it. I had to take the truck in for it's 60,000 mile service, plus I knew there were a few other things wrong. Well the few other things brought the total bill to over $1000!!!! !!! Anyway, DH blamed me, saying I drove the car too much, made too many unnecessary trips. That put me in a funk for most of the day. We've talked about it and I'm fine now.
Anyway, when I went to make my journal entry I realized that at no time did I even get the urge to binge . That is huge because usually if I feel that way, particularly because of DH, it's like I want to get back at him by eating. But that didn't even come close to happening, so YIPPEE!!
