As someone who has put on the weight, lost it and then put it on again I think it comes down to what Karen said;
‘Again IMO - the key to successful weight loss is pretty simple for the VAST majority of folks - physically it comes down to calories in/calories out. Mentally it comes down to changing habits and lifestyles. Each one of us has to find the path towards those goals that works for them, but there is no secret, no magic pill...’
As a foreigner I must agree with Dip – the rest of the world does see Americans as fat, lazy and over-indulged.
As for the serving sizes - they are appropriate in our country and if most people read the labels on products they would see that. It’s the advertising industry that needs to change how they show those serving sizes - instead of showing a person eating 3 serves at once which gives the perception that it is 1 serve and not 3.
As for the fast food industry – in Australia all food outlets must label or make available the nutritional content of their food for the public to see. When you walk into McDonald’s now there is a poster with the calorie counts and nutritional breakdowns of all of their food. If THAT doesn’t push the responsibility of food consumption onto the general public then nothing with enlighten them. It’s easy to blame outside influences but the information is out there for people who want to educate themselves.
Or are we all just a bunch of sheep?
