Diane: Thanks for the hoop tips. Yeah, I saw your previous link to the mud run you are doing in October. I would LOVE to do that too! I tried to talk DH into running with me but he wasn't into it. I'm still entertaining the idea...It would be a great couple getaway trip for DH and I . Now, if I can get my mom to watch the boys... I would be my first 5K as well. How appropriate that I would be covered in mud at the end. Anyway, I saved the link.

OMG. Which reminds me. I had a real Lydia moment last night. Around 10:00pm I had decided that it would be good time to replace the battery in my Timex Heart Rate Monitor watch. Okay, has anyone done this? It's not as easy as it appears.

I innocently take off the back of the watch and inside find the battery. The battery is screwed in with a teeny tiny screw as well. Okay, take that out too. the teeny tiny screw fell inside the crevice of the watch. Okay, take out the electronic part of the watch from its frame and shake out the loose screw. It's stuck. GRRRR. Okay, how important can that be really! I put the battery in screw in the back, turn it over to see if the face is illuminated. Nope. Okay, at this point DH walks in and watches me. He very politely asks if I would like some help and I snarl NO... I can't let him know I can't change my own watch battery. So I get out the owner's manual. First sentence states, "We strongly encourage taking the watch to a jeweler to have the battery replaced." Deep breath, okay, but I've already opened it now what. It says to push a button using a toothpick next to the battery to reset, okay but nothing remotely looks like a button.

At this point DH steps in. I'm totally defeated. He takes everything apart and studies it. He then asks, "What's this little piece?". I said it fell out when I opened it. Then he asks, "Where's the little screw that holds the battery in?" I mumble, "It's gone." Where?! Okay so look for it. "Well, it might be inside the watch." Can't be. "It is." How?! "Don't ask." (Think Lucy and Desi at this point.) Anyway, he tinkers with it for about ten minutes trying to get it to work without the tiny screw in place. Not working. Finally he rotates it and the tiny screw falls out of the watch. Progress.

Then he's looking at the battery and says, "Lydia, this battery looks a little corroded, are you sure this is the newone". Well, OF COURSE IT IS!!! Do you really think I would but the old battery back in it. I'm not a dork! "Lydia, go get the package the battery came in." Grrrrrrr. He asks, "Okay, what is the name of the battery in the package"....Energizer...."What is the name of the battery you are trying to put back into the watch?"....Panasonic.

OMG I DID. ON TOP OF EVERYTHING ELSE I WAS TRYING TO GET THE thing to work with a dead battery. Yep, I was totally humiliated but laughing so hard it really didn't matter. Then he muttered something about leaving me alone all day with the children and thinking twice about this decision....

By the way, it's working now. I better keep him around dont ya think?

Anyone out there who has FIT TV, try out Cathe Friedlich's (sp) Push/Pull routine. I had recorded it a while ago but never checked it out. Great whole body workout. I also did some intervals outside but the humidity was already out of sight even at 6 am.

DIANE - Love the hula hoop idea, something so simple and it is so much fun while being good for you. I would never get to your level of expertise though. Well, saw your later post, maybe it isn't so simple.

LYDIA - I would buy a new watch, obviously you were meant for greater things than watch maintenance. DH does sound like a prince, especially taking this all on late in the evening.

Working again tonight but not too late, I think, meetings are tricky, not sure how they will turn out with a light agenda, could be dragged out.

I had fun picturing how that might look.

Lydia - It's not just you. Technology hates some people for no reason. Especially me.

That mud run sounds like great fun! I've been thinking I need to sign up for another race. I might to the Zoo run in late September. Thinking further ahead I think I'd like to do the Jingle Bell Run in December to see how I do with subfreezing racing temps. Depending on how I'm doing by then with increasing distance I might even shoot for the 10k. We'll see.

Speaking of running, thunderstorms canceled my morning run. If it's not too gross out after work I might try to fit it in then. Had a good band workout last night, found a new pec exercise that I like.

Glad you all like the dress, I think it's definitely a contender even though I've only been shopping once. I made a second appointment this evening to try it on again and take some pictures. There's a boutique going out of business and having a 80% off sample sale, so I'm going to check out what they have this Saturday.

It's 7:00 in the am. Not my favorite time to work out, but I know that my day will just get crazier so I'm headed to the gym for a leg workout while I still can. If I leave now, I can be back before The Boy wakes up...

(Here's me, not leaving now.)

Shan -- chiming in with two thumbs up on the dress. Tres chic!

Lydia -- great story! That's sounds exactly like something I would do, down to getting frustrated at the stupid battery and the (*@&$( watch, like I could reasonably blame my troubles on innocent inanimate objects.

OK, NOW I'm going. Catch you later.

Morning

hrbabe and OH2007 - I'm glad I'm not the only one who has issues with cooling down! I will have to resort to applying makeup at work it seems.

LBWO today which went well, I'm going to tweak it for Thursday though and switch in some different exercises.

Shana - I got my dress from David's too, they have a great selection and I like the one you linked.

Busy day today, have a good one all.

Hi LWL,

OH2007 - great hoop info. I never managed to hoop - I am coordination challenged

Lydia - Yeah, keep DH around. He sounds like a good thing to have around the house.

Hikerchick - Wow, I surely can relate to that! traveling wo kids, wo responsibilities for others wellbveing but my own... while not on business. I've not done that in the past 22 yrs, but that might be like vacation.

I biked to work today and back for the first day since my holidays ended. Boy, this past month certainly cost me a lot of endurance . I am exhausted and my legs gave out in the last 3 miles. I have measured the sitance and it is 11.5 km one way, so I did 23 kms today (that is about 15 miles). On totally flat terrain of course. But i am very very tires. I certainly hope I'll get back into the groove soon.

Have a great day all,
Rabbit

Lydia, you did just fine. I've gone to the store to have a battery replaced (on their store brand watch!) and I thought the lady was gonna kill me. I think she even started off the conversation with, "oh no, you're gonna ask me for a battery aren't you?" when she saw me coming to her with it. Not a great impression to make! After much torture, she got it changed. Maybe the answer is to leave the watch and come back later! (with dh or the store!)

FBWO today and 30 min cardio. I can already feeeeeel the aches that are going to start. I'm skeeeered!!!! Does anyone have an issue with prophalactic ibuprofen? I know we do that for kiddy vaccinations!

Gonna try to conquer the elliptical later. I don't know why that thing eludes me - but it's HARD!!! On Level Zero even.............

Just finished 30 minutes of full-body weights, 30 minutes of incline treadmill, and 30 minutes of post-workout smoothie slurping. I'm the smoothie queen, I tell ya!

Lydia, !! Forget that! I just buy a new stinkin' (el cheapo) watch every time. I'm a good little consumer. If ya do make it down to Arkansas for the race, give me a holler and we'll meet up! Two or three of my kids are going to run it, too, along with one of my brothers who is flying in for the torture, er, fun. We'll buy ya dinner and make it an entire zany celebration!

Congrats on another day, everyone!

I'm still chuckling about the watch. I never even tried to change the one in my POLAR. They want you to send it back to the POLAR distributor I just decided I didn't really need to know my heartrate.

OK, Lydia, it was stinkin hot and humid in Columbus the last few days! The Irish Festival was kind of fun, but very crowded and did I mention how hot and humid it was? There was a band playing at 10pm Saturday night that I wanted to hear (Gaelic Storm), but by 7:30 dd and I were bored, had done a whiskey tasting, shared a bratwurst, looked at all the crafts, and ogled the guy in kilts, and we couldn't figure out how to kill another 2 1/2 hours and be sober enough to get back to Columbus (a friend of hers is the attorney for the City of Dublin and had given us about 40 drink tokens- we would have needed his services as well as an EMT if we'd used them all!

So my last 3 days were spent trying to stay indoors, avoiding thunderstorms and tornado warnings, and eating too much. We were in hopping downtown Grandview for sushi last night and then Jenni's ice cream...mmmmmm. Thought about going to Yellow Springs, but her transmission is dying and I didn't want to potentially have the car towed 50 miles and get rained on anyway while there.

This morning I did manage a 2 1/2 mile run. It was unbearably hot and humid even at 7:45. Other than that and walking for miles around German Village, I didn't do anything more strenuous that trying on clothes and lugging an overstuffed suitcase up two flights of stairs.

Shan- That dress is stunning! I'm sure you'll be gorgeous in it

Rabbit- Hope you're back to your "good place" routine by now.

Pat- We'll be the ones lauching come February. Or maybe not- it just seems so much messier here when it does snow.

Hiker- I'm hula hoop challenged too. Tho I do remember being able to do it when I was a kid.

OH2007- Um, what would you like us to call you? That sounds awkward. The mud run sounds fun. If OK weren't so darn far I'd join you.

Fran :hi: Been away from the weights for a while?
Kaw, I used to detest am workouts, but now I like doing at least cardio early. Too many excuses for not doing it later.

OK, ladies- I just got home a few hours ago after a dreadful delayed flight. The only good part was that Southwest discovered the inoperative engine BEFORE the plane got off the ground! Off to go finish the thousand and one chores before I can sleep in my own bed again!

Hello everyone. I've been posting on the BFL thread, but I'm not sure where everyone went...

I'm in the second week of the 12 week challenge, and so far so good. I wake up sore (which is a good thing) but it makes me really cranky in the morning. DD's non stop early morning chatter drives me up a wall when i'm sore.

I have a question. I'm 5'5' and approximately 158lbs. Usually i'm supposed to eat around 1250-1500 calories to lose. Well, I've never counted calories while weight training, so I was wondering, do the numbers change?

Hi Wanna, I have the same problem in the mornings x2. Who ARE these little people running around with hi energy and demanding to be fed??? Drives me insane! The secret is to adjust my wakeup (and thus workout) time to be before they wakeup I've learned. Then I'm ahead of them on the cheeriness curve. I couldn't do this tho until they started waking up LATER than 6 or 6:30 am so that I could be DONE before they wake up. This took til about the age of 5 before they slept that late.

Yeah, I was worried about diving into the barrel yesterday headfirst with a fbwo and cardio back to back, Mel. I survived & lived to talk about it this morning. Just a tightness, which is good, and won't keep me from today's cardio and getting another fbwo tomorrow.

KAW - congrats on the pull up, saw it on the other thread, I think you are great. Even at my peak, I wonder if I was ever able to do that. I actually saw DD doing them.

RAABBIT - would love to bike to the office but then what to do about DD and getting her to camp?? City biking is too nuts though we are doing more of it on the weekends.

HR - I think battery changing is some kind of lost art thing or dark art, not really sure which .

45 minutes of cardio DVD this morning, amazed myself since I worked again last night. I think I was half way through when I discovered I was exercising, my first thought was "am I awake or dreaming???"

MEL - You got my attention with the last line in your post, Before taking off, glad to see you are safe and sound and dodging the rain.

Down 3.5 this week, not too bad of a start. I feel like I honestly followed the EFL about 99.99% of the time. A huge improvement for me.

Tuna for lunch, yeah, fresh tomatoes, I know they have carbs, but they are so good. Wish there was a dancing tomato.

Morning LWL,

I'm off for another am workout, chest day this time. It'll be my last time in the well-equipped university gym in CA, and probably my last weight workout for a while. We're moving across country tonight -- fly out on the red-eye, fun fun. Immediately after that, I have a conference in NYC; although the hotel supposedly has a gym, I've learned not to hold my breath on NYC hotels for anything except a few cardio machines.

Catch you next week, I hope. Until then, be strong!
