Just got done with my workout. Just treadmill (speed/distance) and abs today. I had been doing my speed/distance days on the treadmill with my weight days but just changed that around today. Now I'll be doing my slower-paced/high incline treadmill with weight days and saving my speed/distance treadmill to do on the days in between with just abs because the speed/distance work whoops my butt right now.
I cannot wait for cooler weather!!!! We have no a/c so it's 95-100 in here most days. Thank goodness this summer has been much cooler than usual for us! If I weren't both anti-social and a cheapskate I might even join a health club just for a/c while working out!
What is it with Irish festivals this weekend? We're going to Anchorage for a wedding tomorrow evening and DH says "Oh, there's an Irish festival too, let's go in early and go to it." Hopefully the music is far away from the food booths.
Busy, stressful day: arguing with the electric company about shutting our power off for a whole day next week , operating short-handed between sick and vacationing employees, and the usual BS that goes on when you deal with the public all day long.
Yep, young knees it is. Lydia wins - the legs of a swimmer. I keep telling myself we are genetically related, but I can't see it. However, you can count on me posting my legs if they ever look anywhere near this good! I couldn't believe it - she was just waiting on us old people to go to the pool and i saw that and said "hold it - I have GOT to take a picture of this - I know some people who will love seeing this cut!" Of course, what I didn't show you was the eye roll directed toward the one with the OLD knees! LOL
OH2007: Here's to cooler weather soon. As a gym member I got to say that with the AC fully cranked and the overhead fans spinning over the ellipticals as fast as they can (I check every now and then during my workout) It still hot. I can't imagine what working out without AC has to be like. I've got to think it's double the workout.
Pat: Oh, but the Irish festival is such a big big deal. I still think it is too hot to immerse myself in those thick crowds just for a pint and and watch a jig or two but hey, there are many who wouldn't miss it for anything. This morning I had to take my mother to a few dr appointments. She had to have a cast put on her foot. Long story. Anyway, she lives across the street from this festival and I have to say that each year it just gets bigger and bigger. I measure this by the number of green flags flying in the park when I drive by. Anyway, this year they are trying to reclaim their status as record holder for the largest Irish Dance group. They are hoping to get about 10,000 participants to dance an Irish jig all at once. I thought about attending but I also have a block party to go to. Hmmm, well it's good to have choices anyway.
Fran:
I KNEW IT HA!
Oh, I'm sure there was quite the eye roll. One day she will understand.
Speakin' of legs, I purchased some new running shoes this afternoon and hit the gym directly after. Love my new Brooks. (Yeah, I still overpronate in a major way) These things are like running on clouds. Keeps all those joints happy.
Hey, I'll probably be out there dancing! (I refuse to use that ridiculous carrot).
I see there is also a whiskey tasting, and a hurling contest. I hope they aren't related.
And the State Fair is on! Great opportunity for a deep fried snickers bar
Lydia, I'm also printing off your list of state parks to balance out the activities.
Well, the Anchorage Irish festival will never qualify as the largest, believe me! They close off one street for one block (or 2?) but it's fun anyway. Anchorage is also having a "Salmon in the City" thing going on - don't know what that's about, but the weather chick was broadcasting from there tonight.
Had an okay eating day. DH managed to get a flat tire on "our" bike and ended up walking most of the 3+ miles into the repair shop to pick up his truck. He's outside now fixing it. I'm hoping to get in a good ride tomorrow before we head off to town. He also picked more raspberries - the neighbors since they're away for the next several weeks. I have 2 tiny zucchinis on one plant, and blossoms on the others, plus blossoms on my green beans, pods on my peas (flat still though), and flowers on my sweet peas. Life is good in the garden. Oh, and one of my employees brought me peonies from her garden. I love them. My mother had a hedge of peony plants - all colors. It was gorgeous.
Maybe Boston, the 2nd largest Irish population after NYC and Ireland is not having an Irish Festival that I know of.
DH came home with news that he may have found the "new" vehicle he is interested in. So we are going to try to see that before we go to the BDay party, add that to the mix this morning, work out, shopping, and present purchasing. Notice I have workout in first place.
Speaking of pictures, even 10 years ago, pregnant with DD, my legs looked so much better, I was heavier but must have been more toned I guess, was just clearing out some pictures, don't ask why I have a picture of my legs.
Mel: I would trade the snickers bar for Jenni's ice cream.... Just my tip of the weekend. Oh and
Liza: I hope you enjoy your new vehicle too. Good for you in placing your workout first on your list today. I went late in the afternoon yesterday. Something I rarely ever do. Anyway, it was more of a recovery workout than one that pushed any boundaries.
Hey! I have biceps!!! I was handing something to one of the kids just a minute ago and something strange, something new & out-of-place, caught my attention from the corner of my eye. A bicep!
I've not done my workout yet today but just had to come tell you guys. I've always bulked up very quickly from any kind of strength training but figured now that I'm older and in my worst shape ever, it would take a long time this time. (And by "bulking up", I don't mean in the Arnold kind of way, just in my own girly way.)
I've only been doing weights for a week or so now so I'm glad to see the old, responsive me is still in there!
hrbabe: ha! she won't be rolling those eyes in 20 years time. I remember being 17 and hating my "pot belly" this was when I was a size 8. If I could do one thing it would be to go back in time and slap my 17 year old self upside the head .
I got myself to the gym this morning for a LBWO, lunges were included was going to swim instead but talked myself out of that and into the weights room. Gym is quiet on a Saturday so it was nice getting on and getting it done.
I've been cleaning since I got back and am now going to take a nice hot shower.
Sounds like some of you have interesting weekends, I hope you enjoy them .
Ack, it's raining - and not just sprinkling! So much for mowing the lawn and taking a bike ride. DH didn't get the tire fixed anyway. So, I've done laundry, emptied the dishwasher, and am about to do a LBWO (also known as physical therapy exercises ). DH has gone to pour cement for Habitat for Humanity, and will be back in a couple hours so he can shower and we'll be off to Anchorage. Irish festival in the rain ?? and then the wedding.
Good job doing weights Lynne. And yay on the bicep Diane!
Hey all, well like I posted in the BFL thread, getting back into town and settled after some vaca at the beach, and getting back on track again starting tomorrow, pronto! Frolicking in beach sand and walking to and fro the hotel steps to the beach is an excellent way to assess your fitness level & recommit! aye yi yi!! Eating choices were horrendous there - and we were in the nicest, newest place at the beach. As I heard one mom telling her dh next to us, "how many times are our kids going to eat french fries this week?" She had apparently asked the pool service people for a fruit tray - just some pineapple (like they used on the drinks!), watermelon, honeydew on a tray instead of the chicken fingers/hamburger fare, and they told her to order a fruit tray from the concierge!.....which of course probably required a 2 day advance or something, making it totally impractical for lunch! lol oh well, we certainly won't be racing back anytime soon. The kids were actually happy to be coming home and tired/bored of the pool and ocean after only 4 days.
Good weekend so far, dinner planned and some bike riding to farmer's market this afternoon. Off to do some straightening around here. Horendous is the name of the state of my house.
It's quiet around the house. DD and DS went off with XH for a 10 day holiday. i am going to miss them. DD threw up 2 or 3 times in the morning befor he came to pick them up. Still, nothing I can do about it. It's either some bug or her nerves. I think nerves, as she had a stomach ache for the whole past week. It's the 3 of them that have to make this work in the next 10 days, and this is entirely out of my hands.
Feels funny, not having to care for anyone ( and while I write this I realise a that I will have to care for myself, the fish, 3 guineapigs, a cat and 4 gerbils).
I'll be going to work tomorrow, after my holiday, and I'll be doing projects at home, paint the shed (the saga continues), visit Ikea, and IF I feel like it, put down some subfloor in the attic and the garage.
