Fran- I've often wondered if I could use a notebook computer on the elliptcal or the bike, but I think the sweat would destroy the keyboard. I think you've got a great idea- they already sell models with built in dvdplayers- why not an internet connection?

Cardio and clean eats. NO football food here. what the :censored: is football food anyway? Where did the custom to stuff oneself because of a sports event come from?

Mel

Meg 02-04-2007 12:46 PM

Because we stuff ourselves in response to ANY event? :dizzy:

Speaking of Super Bowl food, check out what I found in the paper this morning: Super Bowl Food: How Long To Burn Off? :fr:

WaterRat 02-04-2007 01:48 PM

You know, a few years ago I heard about some sort of exercise equiment - maybe a stationary bike - with an internet connection. I'm surprised no one has done it, esp with wireless so prevelent. You could build the mouse buttons into the rails of the treadmill. :) I'd worry about a notebook, Mel, a little expensive if it fell!

I've been getting up early since we got back from vacation - a nice bonus I hope to continue - which gives me more time in the day, always a good thing. I'm off to church in about 45 minutes. DH is going ice skating at the city rink this afternoon, and I think I'll do some weights at home. I don't have DBs as heavy as I usually use for some things, but I'll put on my Cathy Smith tape and try a few new exercises.

We don't do football in our house, and consequently there's no football food here. I do have our congreational annual meeting after church, but folks are good about bringing fruit and other reasonable calorie stuff (in addition to the pastries, cookies, etc. )

It is FREAKIN COLD COLD COLD HERE!!! I got up and made it to the gym in spite of the crazy wind. When I left, I bundled up real good but still felt like a popsicle by the time I made it to the car, my sweaty shirt was frozen stiff. I will put additional clothes in my gym bag so I can change before I go into to the elements.

I'm going to a super bowl party where I'm positive there will be poisonous items so I'm packing my own food to take with me.

I think we are getting that weather tomorrow - they are calling for windchills of -5 during bus-stop time tomorrow. Is that ok for little 7 yo's or am I being cruel by not driving her the one block to the bus? Not so much worried about the 5 mins out there, but if the buses are late like cold weather could make them, it could be a longer wait.

So in prep for the weather, I cleaned out the other side of the garage today so that dh could pull his car in. About 1/2 hour of cleaning, putting away and sweeping. I worked up a good wet sweat under my jacket. More of that energy problem, I guess. He moaned when we started in a mad way, "Somebody poked a hole in my fertilizer bag and now look at this (glaring at the kids as he said it)." My response, "Oh no problem, I'm sweeping anyway, so I'll just sweep it up." Gosh darn it, fitness is so mentally empowering. We're like Mr. Black and Ms. White right there.

Lydia227 02-04-2007 05:15 PM

Dang it is really cold here too. Does anyone else have the need to carb up during these cold spells or is it just me here. I seriously could eat my way out of an oatmeal box. :hungry:

FRAN: What a great idea to clean the garage. I'm on it! Just kidding. I have spent all day cleaning closets. I thought of you as I passed by my lampshades in each room.

TIKI: I do believe your shirt could freeze during your outside run to the car. DH went for a run before sunup this morning. He said his facemask froze to his beard. YIKES. I worry about him when he goes out there like that. Sheesh. He refuses to use a "dreadmill."

PAT: Somehow no matter how much we complain about the bitter cold this week, I don't think we are going to get much sympathy from you. :lol3: Hope the fruit was great at your meeting.

MEL: Clean eats?! Good for you. DH purchased Italian subs from the neighbor boys who play baseball...to eat or not to eat. Yeah. I know the right answer.

MEG: I truly am afraid to read that article. But, ignorance is not an excuse is it.;)

Bundle up folks. Its going to be a cold night tonight!

Mel 02-04-2007 08:18 PM

Yuk! I haven't looked at or heard a weather report but I guess I know what's coming. Spoke to dd this afternoon and she was complaining about how cold it is in Columbus, too, Lydia. Yesterday the OSU Womens lacrosse alumnae team had their annual game against the current team and she was out there freezing to death and reminiscing about playing a "spring" sport in sub-zero temperatures (the season actually starts in February and the first game is traditionally played in a blizzard).

I'm all mixed up today. I got up late for me- didn't get out of bed until 10 and ate around 10:30. Now I actually can't remember how many meals I've eaten today. This may be the FIRST TIME I can't remember what I've eaten. I guess I should start writing and logging again. I know I'm down at least one, but maybe two. LOL, one can HOPE. I do remember all five loads of laundry that I did today.

Obviously, I'm not watching the game or at a party ;)

Me neither. 90 minutes of ubwo and lbwo done today. Hoping to work that muscle to get some kind of afterburner heat generating tonite into tomorrow. Thinking of ramping cardio up to 45 minutes the next 2 weeks to see what it will do. My perceived exertion level is easier than before, even though the incline and speed are good for me and my hr gets really high. I just don't feel whipped like I used to when I'm done and not as sweaty as I used to be. That could also be the frigid temps in the house, but worth experimenting with the length of the workout I suppose.

Lydia, I'm with ya, I just want to go to Bob Evans and get all their BAD stuff in weather like this - the warm, home cookin, stick to your guts stuff I guess.

tikanique 02-05-2007 12:22 AM

I feel almost guilty complaining about the cold because I should be ecstatic that we don't also have snow with it.

Good job to all you ladies that cleaned and organized this weekend. I did NOTHING of the sort. I took DS to get a haircut (yes, he graced me with his presence this weekend) bought goodies for the SuperBowl party and then went to said party. They had a huge salad with a bunch of "stuff" in it, pizza, chicken, nachos, all the poison. I brought a bag of organic toritilla chips, two sugar free punch drinks, a bag of tostitos light and salsa. I ate a healthy meal before I went, had two servings of the light tostitos and stuck to water. I did NOT blow it! Yeah me. Now off to bed. My fingers are freezing on the keyboard.

Unfortunately we cancelled Caen - the ferry was going to be delayed by an hour, which meant getting there in the dark  However it would've still meant us getting up at 5am. So we decided to go another time. We went swimming instead at a swanky new pool  I must go swimming more often - it was GREAT and they had floats and water noodles there too! :D

Then yesterday we went on the bike to Oxford and we fell off! fortunately we were stopped at the time and neither us nor the bike were damaged.

Oh and I ate really well all weekend - I went just over calories on Sat but ate LOTS of protein (173g) and on Sun I was under calories :faint: according to fitday, but I'm not 100% sure since we ate out but I DO know that I didn't have pudding :D OR fries :D

This week my aim is to get all my strength workouts in and get some running done too - I've got a 10K on Saturday. *cough* and haven't properly run since just after Christmas *cough*

Lydia227 02-05-2007 05:59 AM

Good Morning Everyone! :sunny:

I just checked the local news and found that almost every school in the state has been canceled today due to the low temps. I'm not going anywhere today!

MEL: How's 1 degree for you? I can't believe that your DD was out in this weather yesterday playing a game. :dizzy: She must really love the sport.

FRAN: I'm not going anywhere near a Bob's right now. Nope, I could do enough carb damage right here in my own home.

TIKI: I agree  it has been nice not to worry about too much snow and ice this winter. Although we do not get nearly as much as you do this time of year. It's still early February though. We have a good month and a half for it to find us. :mag:

Nice job with keeping the poisonous food at bay yesterday. Let's just say I'm retaining a little water this morning. :smug: I have a nice tall glass of water that is going to follow me all day today.

FRU: Bummer about the trip this past weekend. It sounds like it wasn't a total loss though. Good luck on your runs this week. You keep *coughing* like that and they won't let you run on Saturday.

Brrrr. Back to bed now. Maybe the DSs will sleep in today. Not.

srmb60 02-05-2007 06:09 AM

The road is closed to my work. Hmmm ... what'll I do instead?

tikanique 02-05-2007 09:32 AM

Fru, swimming right about now sounds so great! I would love to be swimming in a nice warm ocean with some nice warm sand nearby and a big ole bright warm sunny sky. Good luck on that run. And take something for that cough. You are spreading cooties all over this forum!

Lydia, I didn't turn on the TV this AM cause I didn't want it to distract DD from getting ready for school. Got to the school and NO ONE WAS THERE!!!! Luckily I have a friend nearby that's a principal so I took DD there to hang with her and her children today.

SuB, they've closed an entire freeway heading into downtown Detroit from now till September so getting to work is going to be a MAJOR CHORE for us up here. Is your road closed just for the day or is it closed for long time work? I hope its just for the day.

DD has cheer tonight, so I skipped the AM workout and am going after work while she is at cheer instead. Today is a cardio only day since every muscle that I own is sore from my Fri-Sat-Sun workouts. Got clean food in the fridge at work, clean food in the fridge at home. This chick is on a roll trying to lose a couple of rolls!

It was just swimming in a nice cold pool in the frosty sunlight from the very big big window that people walking past can stare in! :mag:

I did some treadmill running intervals today and I don't feel like I worked hard enough even though I was dripping all over the place and pounding the treadmill so hard all my bits and bobs were flying all over the place! :lol3: I suppose I should work harder tomorrow

I also did some incline chests and some abs - 10 sets of 3 and I managed to up my weights for 6 sets, so that's an improvement I think, even though I'm only doing 3 reps at a time :chin: well I suppose it's the volume that counts right? Right? :dunno: I'll follow what it says on the plan and see what happens! :)

Edit: Just to verify "bits and bobs" were lifting gloves, water bottle, notebook and fleece - not anything rude :o

tikanique 02-05-2007 09:52 AM

Oh yeah, I had to grit my teeth to keep from slapping the crap out of a trainer at Bally's yesterday. There were these two super built up guys using the lat pull machine and they were lifting almost the entire stack. Their form SUCKED major. Then there was the chick trainer watching them and not saying a word. After they finished their sets I went to use the machine. I did my first set on the same weight that I did last week and had no problems completing 12 reps so I was like hmm, let's see if I can go up to the next weight. Well, the plates are in increments of 15 lbs so I moved up to the next weight level - 105 - and tried that and although I could do it, my form wasn't quite right. The trainer idiot walked up to me on my second rep and yelled "Stop it! that's too much weight for you. your form is wrong and you're gonna hurt yourself." I finished what I was doing and then told her that I had my situation under control. She said that I shouldn't be lifting more than 30 - 40 lbs tops, otherwise I wouldn't get the results that I wanted. I told her she didn't know me, she didn't know what results I was looking for and I didn't want or need her advice. She said that she was just trying to help me so I suggested that she go help the guys that had just left the machine because their form was much worse than mine. She rolled her eyes at me and walked off.
