Oww, oww, oww........did 90 minutes of cardio split up yesterday AND 90 minutes of ubwo and lbwo NOT split up. SHeesh. It was a catch up day and my new routine for both, but oww. I woke up in pain from lying on one shoulder too long. Now I just have the stiffies. Will probably cave and take some ibuprofen just so I can get back on and do more cardio today for 45 minutes.

Question for you: do you put the protein powder in your oatmeal before cooking (this seemed to be the only way to make sense). How much do you use? I used 1/2 scoop today in a relatively small serving of oatmeal (one packet serving) and did not like it. Will probably have to stick to smoothies as a way to get my pp, but it was worth a try!

I'm here - just waiting for that snow to come all the way up to Albany! Looks like it's hitting everyone else who was expecting it already. Hope you guys are managing to avoid going out in this mess!

About oatmeal and PP - I've always put my PP in *after* the oatmeal is done. I stir the scoop in, then add a bit of skim milk or hot water as needed to thin it out a bit. Did you try chocolate PP w/oatmeal - that's the best combo. I also have done vanilla, but in oatmeal with lots of cinnamon added. Sometimes a half packet of Splenda helps, but I usually skip that.

Tiki - I may have to invest in that Dance Factory game - my DF's nephew has a PS2, and that sounds like it would be loads of fun! I always want to try that at the mall, but NO WAY will I do that in public!

I had a good workout this morning and was finally rewarded with a 2# loss on the scale! I wish it were coming off faster, but I'll take what I can get!

Mel - hope you're feeling better today.

Hello to everyone else!

Hmm I have an idea for my steel cut oats then! I think I'm going to do choco protein powder with pumpking, that should be interesting :)

 Good morning.

Just getting stuff ready for the day. I have a 2+ hour meeting to go to in about 40 minutes - booorrring...... :faint:

Some cardio yesterday, not as much as I would like. Fran, I don't know how you stand the :tread: for that long. Even with music or an audiobook, half an hour is about my max limit. I can't wait til it's less icy and I can move outdoors! Elliptical is still my indoor choice, but when I was at the gym on Sat they were all busy, so I started on the :tread: and moved when an elliptical freed up.

Hope your son is feeling better Rabbit. We both had flu shots and so far we've stayed healthy. :)

We have no snow in the forecast, but it's cold again. 8F this morning. Had to plug my car in, and even so it was barely warm when I got to work (okay, I only drive 3.5 miles!) The cats think they want to go out, so I open the door, and they sit there considering and then wander off. DH says I spoil them - all they want to check the weather.

Pat, one word: netflix There's no way I could do it with just music or watching "regular" tv. It's got to be something I want to see with no commercials.

Yes, I used chocolate PP. Mixed it in with the milk then cooked it all. It looked like way too much, so I might be willing to try again with 1/4 scoop, but duh that it didn't occur to me to add more liquid. The pp taste was too strong for my likes, and this was in my favorite oatmeal too.

Mel 02-13-2007 01:44 PM

I mix the pp into the oatmeal after it's cooked. I make the oatmeal a little extra watery if I'm planning to do this. It's NOT my favorite meal. I don't find it filling at all, and am starving on the days I use it as a quick breakfast.

Did chest and cardio today- need to do more cardio.

I tried those spiderman pushups and the grasshopper pushups! Hey they are fun (especially with an admiring audience ;) ), but hard on shoulders. My boss wanted to know if I wanted him to plunk the 50 pound sandbag on my back :p  They'll now be a staple! They are particularly gruesome holding the flat side of a bosu so that you have to stabilize as well.

Ok I'm home today so I experimented real quick.

1 can of pumpkin puree
1 cup of steel cut oats
1 tsp of cinnamon
4 scoops of chocolate protein powder
~6 cups of water
dash of salt

I put all that in my rice cooker and I got something similar to my vanilla protein powder except it looks chocolately, smells chocolately but doesn't really taste chocolately. I added a couple walnuts. I like it but I think I'll stick with vanilla protein powder.

tikanique 02-13-2007 01:51 PM

I have a confession to make. I'm terrified of the BOSU balls. My balance is so poor (I have fallen UP the stairs on more than one occasion). I would love to try to use it at home in private but am terrified of using it in public. Does it make a significant difference in your exercises? A chick at my gym stands on it while doing bicep curls, plus she kind of squats down each time she curls up - looks cool - but I'm worried I'll fall off, drop a dumbbell and end up with a broken foot.

Did my whole body weights (is there some sort of abbreviation for that :dizzy: ) yesterday including 3 sets of 10 pushups! Wow those are hard but feel great. I sooooooo wish I could do that routine every day. I really enjoy it. Bleh, I know, rest those muscles but I like lifting so much better than boring old cardio.

It's super sunny here so I'm going out to walk a few miles in the snow. Oh, sunshine! Why oh why do I live here? LOL!

Hi LWL,

Just popping in to tellthat I did 15 mins on the elliptical. I put it behind the couch so the kids can sit in front (on the couch) & we all watch TV.

My son is encouraging me to make this 15 mins a daily habit. We'll see.

I added pushups too, as part of my new ubwo chest stuff. I started doing them on the wall, then quickly progressed doing them on the stairs at about a 45deg angle. Tried yet again on the floor (girlies) last nite, but could only eek out 2 to the sensation of really pulling something in my chest, so I'm back to the stairs where I can get out about 7-10. Once I make it up to 20, I'll try moving back to the floor. Tried doing them on a step-like platform bc I read somewhere that that could make it easier, but it felt harder to me.

WaterRat 02-13-2007 05:41 PM

Ah, Fran - I get it. You have your own :tread: - duh! I'm using the one at the gym where I get no choice as to what's playing on the so-called cardio theatre. The TVs are too small and too far away - imho anyway. We live in a tiny house ~1750 sf and have no room for a :tread: or elliptical. :(

sportmom 02-13-2007 05:47 PM

Pat, sounds like time for a fitness room home addition!! An extra 400 square feet should do it! I'm lucky that we live in a part of the country where basements come standard. One of the reasons I veto'ed a move to Ca a few years ago was I read that homes are built with no basements and couldn't figure out where I would put the workout room since there wasn't extra sf'age anywhere else on the first level.

Check out this link to a video about how much food you would have eaten if you ate one of everything that was advertised during the Super Bowl. It's full of food porn  so beware. Only those with strong with power should click the link. http://www.slate.com/id/2159365/
