Raising ones' metabolism by cheating? I won't even get into that. But even if you could do so, you're never going to raise it ENOUGH by "cheating" to make up for the excess calories coming in. You take in too many calories, more than you utilize and it is stored as fat.

Besides the only known, proven effective method to raise ones metabolism - adding muscle.

Well, I may be attacked her for saying this since all of you appear to be against cheat days but here's what my diet plan looks like. Also please keep in mind that this will become a lifestyle choice for me so it's not just temporary. I find it's something I can continue to do and a way to eat so I am still 'living' and not always having to eat 'perfect' food.

I eat very well 6 days of the week. Then one day a week I eat anything I want. My cousin lost a LOT of weight on this. I guess it all depends on the overall plan and not just whether or not you have a cheat day?

We've had many, many discussions on this. Cheat days mean different things to different people, so it's hard to determine what works about it and what doesn't.

You also say eat whatever you want one day a week - well what people "want" varies a LOT. IF one wants a real lot - sorry the only thing a cheat day is going to do is cheat you out of becoming a healthy weight.

But if one simply wants a roll of sushi or a slice of pizza or a serving of pasta, well that's another story entirely.

I'm happy to say that I was able to lose my weight even though I didn't employ a "cheat" day. And now I really do feel as if I'm "living". No, I didn't find not "cheating" as not "living". Just the opposite - I am finally LIVING life to it's fullest.

But please keep us updated on how the "cheat day" works for you.

Again, it's really hard to define "cheat day", which is why I don't care for the term. Makes it sound dirty, naughty. Not only does it vary on how people define it, also varies on what people CALL it. Even THAT will vary from person to person

So, saying this is probably pointless but I really don't get that someone would want to "cheat" and have Chinese food (which is fat, laden with calories, sodium and msg) to encourage a "whoosh" of weight loss.

I know the OP is not trying to piss me off (I'm sensitive these days) but seriously? I'm doing EVERYTHING I can to break my 3 MONTH PLATEAU and that most certainly doesn't involve eating crap to break the stall.

Hope it works for you. (my head nearly explodes at the thought of a "cheat" day. Why not just work it into your plan? what's the point of "cheating" and expecting to lose weight at the same time?)

First of all what I call a cheat day is eating a normal diet breakfast and a plate of chinese food, the rest of the day I don't eat anything. For some people a cheat would mean eating everything they want all day and no I do not do that. No one asked me what I consider a cheat day. I came to this place for support and I feel like the previous poster said that I am being attacked. I have read this technique in body building magazines and several dieting magazines and I know it works for a fact because it worked for my husband. I will no longer get on here for support or encouragment because no one seems very friendly to me at all, I wasn't even greeted when I introduced myself on here. Everyone here has been told by doctors and such that losing 1-2 lbs a week is the only safe way to lose, well let me tell you people, you can lose a lot of weight and lose it quick and stick to it for life, I've seen it done.( just one example Biggest Loser). Its all about food choices and life choices and what you are choosing to do. Just because you lose weight quickly doesn't mean you can't make proper choices to keep the weight off. I actually am suprised that now I have replaced my love for food for love for exercise. Food doesn't make me feel good anymore but exercise does, and if I lose this weight quickly or not, nothing will change that.

I want you to know that I am very sensitive at this moment about being on a "stall" . So that's why I said it above. YOU can do whatever it is that YOU want/need to do to lose weight. I'm not going to judge you for that. My *only* issue is UNDERSTANDING and again, you can do what you need/want to do and I don't HAVE to understand it.

Please come here for support but also be OPEN that other people have other experiences and some subjects can be very sensitive. We are ALL going through similar things but all in very unique ways and we all have something to say that may or may not be "right" to apply to YOUR own program.

So, I do apologise for my own response, I did try to inform that I am very sensitive as I'm going through my own struggles.
