Echo 08-05-2009 06:59 PM

my new diet is going to be simple:

EDIT:

my new eating programe, basically follows Paul Mckenna's 4 golden rules.

4 GOLDEN RULES

1. When You Are Hungry, Eat

2. Eat What You Want, Not What You Think You Should

3. Eat Consciously And Enjoy Every Mouthful (eat SLOWLY, no T.V)

4. When You Think You Are Full, Stop Eating

And checking if i am really hungry by drinking a glass of water. as 75% of the time, you might be thirsty and not hungry.

And also constantly monitoring my hunger level, by checking the hunger scale. avoiding the red zone of the hunger scale!

http://www.starling-fitness.com/wp-c...gerscale_1.JPG

Also my plan includes the gabriel method, and a little bit of south beach thrown in :)

Also exercising everyday, no matter what it is or however short.

calbear2011 08-05-2009 06:59 PM

i think that is a great idea. and i, like you, looked for an accountability thread. working out isnt my problem, but being accountable for what i eat is.

Sunnigummi 08-05-2009 07:04 PM

We used to have a food planning thread for everyday back in '06 -'07. I fell off the wagon then so I don't know what happened to it... but it's great to see it start back up. I'll join!

Today:

Breffix - 2 slices whole grain wheat bread, sundried tomatoes, sprinkling of feta cheese and chopped up basil. Toasted.

Lunch - 1 cup (cooked) white rice, spiced roasted potatoes, 1/2 cup plain yogurt.

Snack - 1 bag popcorn (100 cal snack bags), bunch of grapes (yum!), handful of toasted pita chips

Dinner - Noodles with plenty of veggies - bell peppers, bean sprouts, carrots, green onions, mushrooms and garlic/ginger.

Hmmm... I feel like I overdid the snacks today... something to work on for tomorrow. :)

Echo 08-05-2009 07:07 PM

do you track your food on something like Sparkpeople, fitday, dailyplate? to make sure you're getting enough calories, fiber, protein, fat, etc? that might help in addition to a thread here.

I ate 4 chicken tacos for dinner! I workout everyday...BUT...I tend to over eat...Working out makes me VERY hungry! lol

jhonny 08-07-2009 05:09 AM

what are the ideal food groups to consume when i want to lose 50 lbs?

Echo 08-07-2009 07:11 AM

calbrear2001 well done! :cheer2:on your healthy eating there and good workout! i love cool whip, we dont get it in the UK i dont think. i love family guy's joke about stewie saying cool whip.

sexyinNC well done on your diet and exercise!! :cheer3:

kiahna23 - oh yum i love tacos hehe. :dance:i know what you mean, working out can make you very hungry. after my workout, i'm a hungry monster. so what i personally do is have some fruit. i like peaches and plums :)

hey jhonny, :welcome3: erm i'm not sure what food groups are best. but i can tell you what i am personally doing at the moment.

i am avoiding all bread, wheat products, junk food, anything processed, sodas etc.

every meal consists of steamed vegetables, lentils, and protein (in the form of either chicken, fish or lamb, or eggs), and salad.

for snacks in between meals, i eat fruit.

but once i week, i'm allowed a "cheat day" where I can eat carbs that i am craving. like bread hehe.

everyday i exercise. either walking/jogging, or trampolining, or squats with hand held weights.

i hope that helps. and good luck and join us! there is alot of information on this site, i am sure you will be able to find a diet that you personally like and can comfortably follow.

and I am sure someone will be able to give you a better answer...:book2:

Sunnigummi 08-07-2009 08:54 AM

Echo, I like your plan! Sounds similar to mine, except I don't have a cheat day for carbs. I eat whole wheat/12 grain stuff, so I allow for 1-2 slices everyday just so I don't crave carbs. I'm a carbaholic.

Onto the meal plan!

Breffix - 2 slices 12 grain bread with sundried tomatoes, sprinkling of feta cheese and rosemary sprigs. Toasted.

Lunch - whole grain pasta (Barilla Plus), lo-fat & homemade (with skim milk) alfredo sauce, onions, sundried tomatoes.

Snack - pear or watermelon

Dinner - Same as last night. 1 cup cooked white rice with 1 chicken leg + curry and roasted/spiced bell peppers and potatoes :)

Exercise:

1 hour dancing
1 hour tennis/walk with hubby

Echo 08-07-2009 01:34 PM

great stuff Sunnigummi! :cheer2:

and i am a carbs-aholic too!! hehe
--

here's my confession so far today:

pre-exercise snack: 6 cherries. 1 peach. 1 plum. water

exercise: jumping and dancing on my trampoline 17minutes :trampo:

late lunch: big bowl of yellow daal. onion and tomato salad. cucumber, carrots. 2 fried eggs in a little bit of olive oil.

dessert : 2 tablespoons of peanut butter. 8 cashews (oops i feel abit guilty i think i over did it on the peanut butter! i just had a craving for it! so i went with it)

I just ordered The Gabriel Method on amazon, i cant wait to start reading it. i'm reading the first chapter at the moment. i've heard great things about it. but i'm abit skeptical at the moment with the whole mind over body thing, seems like alot of work! but will give it a go! have just downloaded the free tracks by visiting his site.

if i get hungry later on in the evening, i will have a big bowl of yellow daal. i really like it :-)

Sunnigummi 08-07-2009 03:39 PM

Mmmmmm Peanut butter... I can't have it in the house because I can't control myself. I once bought a small jar, the smallest available and I thought to myself "it's small so I will realize how much I'm eating before it's too late." Nope. Didn't happen. Ate the whole jar in two days. Sigh to me. It's pure torture going to Costco where they sell economy sized jars of PB and TWO in a pack. I always stretch out my hands and go "nom nom nom" and my husband has to pull me into a different aisle. :p

well i think my overindulgence in peanut butter, has kept me satiated! i'm not hungry and so i'm calling it a day. the kitchen is closed for the night!

i just had a peppermint tea, and will just be drinking water.

going to play tennis tommorow, so going to go to bed at midnight. and listen to the audio track of the Gabriel method, see if it hypnotises me to becoming thin hehehe :dizzy:
just burning it onto cd at the moment.
---
all in all i'm happy with today, except for the peanut butter trip up.
see you folks tommorow! ;)

calbear2011 08-08-2009 01:31 PM

got in really late last night so here is yesterday...
breakfast
1 egg + 1 egg white
2 slices canadian bacon
1 slice high fiber whole wheat bread with raspberry preserves
1/2c nonfat milk

snack
1 whole wheat light english muffin
1/2 tbsp peanut butter
1/2 tbsp raspberry preserves

lunch
2 oz whole wheat pasta
celery, red bell pepper, green bell pepper, and olives
2 tsp olive oil, 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar, tsp honey and a squirt of mustard
1/2 ear corn on the cob

snack
oatmeal with pb and honey swirled in

dinner
bourbon chicken
green beans

snack
slice of whole wheat bread
smear of pb and raspberries

exercise: 4.75 mile run

calbear2011 08-08-2009 01:35 PM

jhonny -- as for foods to eat, there have been a ton of studies about eating high fiber foods and foods with monounsaturated fats (unsalted nuts, avocado, olive oil) to lose weight. I found that oatmeal is a great snack and super filling. I always get the plain instant packs that are 100 cal and then sweeten them with a bit of honey and some berries.

I also love drinking smoothies made with yogurt, berries, and whey protein powder. they taste delicious and when you blend the smoothie longer and with a bit of ice it gets thicker...therebye filling you up more.

Hope that helps!

SexyInNC 08-08-2009 01:44 PM

I wont even post exactly what I ate yesterday, it was bad and no exercise! I have some friends leaving to Iraq Thursday so I partied like a rock star and enjoyed myself! hehe

Echo 08-08-2009 04:05 PM

well done calbear2011, wow 4.75miles run is very impressive. :cheer:

lol SexyInNC! glad you had a good time, and no harm in partying once a blue moon! life isnt all about dieting!

my confession:

today’s weight = 169.2lbs - lost 0.6lbs from yesterday. total weight loss = 4.2lbs. no doubt this is probably just all water, but makes me feel good nonetheless! so i'm taking it ! muwahahhahaha

exercise - played tennis for 2 hours.

breakfast - 1 banana.

post workout snack: 1 peach, 2 apricots.

late afternoon dinner - 2 chicken kebabs. half a bowl of yellow Daal (lentil soup) and cooked vegetables in italian herbs (carrots, brocoli and green beans), raw carrots, cucumber, abit of low fat yoghurt.

dessert - about 1/4 cup of mango juice (from a carton) that i poured into a small bowl, and treated it like some sort of dessert that i had with a spoon! hehe.

evening snack - half a bowl of yellow daal. and then a glass of mango juice. (was craving something sweet).

and that’s me done for today!

Sunnigummi 08-08-2009 04:22 PM

My exercise/food confessions:

Yesterday was bad. I had homemade alfredo sauce with skim milk, 1 tbsp of butter and 1 tbsp of flour as the roux. I was thinking about this morning and realized I could've just subbed the butter and flour for 1 tbsp of cornstarch (corn flour) to thicken the sauce. Oh well. Learned my lesson for next time. I calculated the calories (I ate WAY too much pasta - I miss my alfredo sauce!) and it came out to um *gulp* 1100 calories. Plus everything else I had for the day and I had shot up to 2300-ish calories. That's what I used to eat and even then I knew it was too much. Blah. So today, here's my make-up-for-it plan...

Breffix: 1/4 watermelon

Lunch: 2 rotis, veggie curry, 2-3 tbsps of an Israeli couscous salad (yum!)
Dessert: 1 slice 12 grain bread with 1 tbsp strawberry jam

Snack: Handful of toasted pita chips

Dinner: Homemade pizza. Just made the dough and am waiting for it to rise. Yum, I can't wait! I'm going to add rosemary and some sundried tomatoes to the dough and see how it turns out... :D

Exercise: Because I felt so guilty from yesterday, I went for a 3-mile walk this morning. I jogged about 0.6 miles according to my pedometer. I walked the rest of it and I feel good now. Later this evening, am going to play tennis.

Echo- you played for 2 hours? You must be muscular or have good stamina. I can barely play for 1! I usually give up around 45 minutes. :p

SexyinNC - Hey fellow NC'er! I'm going to echo Echo's (ha!) statement and say that once in a while partying is good for the soul. :)

Echo 08-08-2009 04:29 PM

hey Sunnigummi!

wow that alfredo sauce does sound yum. no harm in the odd indulgence from time to time ;)

sounds like a great plan for today. and wow rosemary and sundried tomatoes in the dough sounds lovely!!

well done on the walk/running :cheer: that is really impressive!! :cheer2:

haha thanks, but i'm soooo unfit! and not muscular at all! the first hour, it was mainly coaching and all these drills, i tell ya, i was getting very knackered and out of breath! haha then the following hour it was mostly doubles. i did play one singles game. i was so tired, that when i went to get the ball from the back of the court, i was walking slowly as my legs were hurting haha and the girl i was playing against said jovially "Come on Echo! get the ball " or something to that effect. she meant it in a jokey sort of encouraging way. probably got impatient waiting for me to retrieve it for i was serving. but i walked to get the ball instead of jogging, cause i needed a time out to rest! haha as i was running around alot during the game.

i did feel really bad about it. i felt abit hurt. and then cursed myself for not jogging to get the ball. i guess i felt abit embarrassed aswell. it was such a tiny comment, i'm way too sensitive. and then was thinking wish i was fitter... and thought from now on no matter what, will jog to get the ball when i'm serving, no matter how tired i am or my legs are hurting. but i know i shouldnt be so sensitive. thats my problem! too senstive, take everything to heart.

but it was a beautiful day. and i got some nice compliments for some of my shots from other people and the coach. so i was pleased about that!

anyways sorry for the off topic confession there! haha

lol at echo's echo's statement hahaha

Sunnigummi 08-08-2009 04:40 PM

All that about being sensitive sounds just like me. I'm sensitive too, more than I should be. When I tell my friends about something that bothers me, some of them usually go "man you're sensitive! Who cares?" Yeah, who cares, well *I* do. I think it depends on the tone it's said in, you know? Sometimes, the same thing can sound so different to me just based on the tone used. Blah. I'm trying to get over it, but it's really hard. I do know how you feel though -.

Yeah, the sauce was good, but I don't think I'll be trying that for another month or so. I give myself an indulgence once a month so I don't go crazy. :P I LOVE cooking and making homemade stuff, so I get so psyched about new/faves I make. Hehe. I can't decide if loving cooking is a blessing or a curse with this new lifestyle. On one hand, I can't wait to try low-fat/no-fat alternatives, but on the other hand I just want to use a stick of butter.

Hm, guess I ranted too. :P

Echo 08-08-2009 04:47 PM

Aww thanks Sunnigummi. that really makes me feel better! :) you're so sweet! i appreciate it. feel better already!

there's a podcast i've been meaning to listen to, its about "dont take things personally!" lol i must listen to it and start implementing the techniques. if you're interested, i can dig out the title of it , you can search for it on itunes.

i love cooking too!! :-)

Sunnigummi 08-08-2009 07:12 PM

Yeah, I'm willing to give it a listen!

We should totally swap recipes! From the looks of your meals, seems you like Indian food? I know some recipes of popular dishes if you're interested. :D

Off to play tennis in 30 mins.

Echo 08-09-2009 07:32 PM

cool! will dig out the title of the podcast episode and let you know :-)

haha yah i like pakistani food ;) but i cant take credit, its all down to my moms cooking. i love her cooking.

swapping recipes would be great! :-)

have fun at tennis:

my weight, is the same as yesterday, no gain. which is good. 169.2lbs.

i woke up at 8.40am!! that’s a first for me. and i forced myself to stay awake! read a book in bed as the sun was shining in. which was nice. and then i did a work out with ab exercises, and loads of squats with hand held weights. i was sweating like crazy! hehe.

i made a big salad for lunch. which i will be eating for the rest of the week. i put in grated cucumber, carrots, raddish, tomatoes. and then just black pepper. no dressing, no salt.

Sunnigummi 08-09-2009 08:48 PM

Hey Echo - sounds like you had a good day!

Here's the rundown for my day:

Had breffix - 2 medium eggs + leftover veggie toppings from last night's pizza. 2 slices of 12grain toast. 1 cup skim milk + 1 tbsp cocoa powder.

Lunch -ate out, 'cause we were going to the mall. Had a falafel sandwich with tabouli salad and pasta salad as sides. The servings were not big at all, so I was happy. The sandwich was only half a pita with fairly small falafels, so I was happy with that too.

Snack - we had sno-cones at the mall. We walked 3.5 miles!!! (I wore my pedometer)

Dinner - flattened rice with diced roasted potatoes and onions. Yum. And er...3 squares of cadbury's fruit n' nut chocky. ;)

Dang, I ate a lot today. Blurg. Oh well, going for a run/walk tomorrow morning followed by some tennis in the evening, so hopefully I'll make up for today's caloric excess.

Echo 08-10-2009 03:45 PM

ooooooooooooopsy i've been naughty today! i got bitten by the carb hungry monster! lol

my confession for today (its only 8pm, but the kitchen is closed for me now!)..

exercise - 18 minutes on the trampoline :trampo:

breakfast - 1 peach.

lunch - 1 wholewheat pita naan. a bowl of stir fried mince lamb meat (no added oil). half a bowl of yellow lentil (daal). salad. some vegetables.

dinner - 1 wholewheat pita bread. 1 slice of bread (white/brown) and another bowl of stir fried mince lamb. and tiny bit of cheese, a little bit of low fat mayo and tiny bit of salad. (i made 1/4 tiny sandwhich lol)

ooopsy i over did it on the carbs!! i cant help it. its the mince lamb. i love mince lamb! and i have to have it with naan or bread.. its my kryptonite. hehehe

BUT i did resist not eating 3 hershey kisses. they are sitting in my drawer, i took them out of the fridge. but i then ate 8 almonds and 4 cashew nuts, and didnt eat the kisses.

thats me done today.

today's weight - 168.2lbs (lost 1lb from yesterday and by todays carb overload, no doubt will gain it back again or more so tommorow!) but will think positively like Gabriel would say. and will my body to burn it away!!! and to visualise my thin body hehe

--

oh no! so much for my "the kitchen is now closed" which the greedy monster inside of me completely ignored ! Lol. i just gobbled up some mince lamb curry that my mom just made, with half a roti.

okay i will treat today as my "cheat" day. lol

will do better tommorow! no carbs tommorow!

Sunnigummi 08-10-2009 06:20 PM

Mmm curry. I don't eat lamb, but man that sounds good...

Here's my day:

Breffix - 1 cup skim milk with 1 tbsp cocoa powder
2 slices 12-grain bread, teeny tiny shavings of butter that I ended up not tasting.

Lunch - 1 cup Israeli couscous (prepared, bought from Costco) with olives, baby corn, tomatoes, parsley, and some kind of olive oil/vinegar dressing
toasted pita chips

Snack - 100 cal popcorn bag

Dinner - homemade pasta and veggies. Whole wheat/multigrain? penne pasta with onions, sundried tomatoes, broccoli and garlic. Side dish: Shredded, roasted brussel sprouts with garlic.

Snack/Dessert - 2 cups of seedless grapes.

I'm trying to keep my calories to 1800 ish, but no matter what I do it ends up creeping into the high 1900s. I can't cut down a lot because I get really hungry otherwise and that leads to binge-ing. I need to add some more veggies and fruits into my diet so that I feel full.

Exercise - 2 mile (hoping for 2.5) walk with hubby. :)

I'm getting my 30 Day Shred DVD in the mail soon (Netflix). I can't wait!! :D

Echo 08-10-2009 07:09 PM

hehe it was tasty hehe

LOL Sunni, i love that drool smilie!! not seen that one before. whats the code for it?? hahahaha love it

well done sounds like you had a good day !!! :cheer2:
