jillnicole03 09-08-2008 06:38 PM

MissNewBooty... Yay :) I'm going to be thinking of some ideas on what our final "challenge" can be, if you have any ideas or anything that would help or motivate you, then don't be shy! :)

THE Heather 09-08-2008 08:07 PM

You're right...this portion of the board is a bit lacking in activity.

Honestly, I just come here to lurk every once in a while. But I'd be in!

Awesome!! the more the better :)

Glad to have you join... and like I mentioned before if you have any "challenge" ideas, we'd love to hear.. I'm thinking we'll pick tomorrow... to give people time to join if they want to!!

Okay I decided (for all the late-starters) that we will start tomorrow...

So should we all pick our own challenge amount or do a set amount? Love to hear your ideas... Excited to start :)

We could do it! :club:

kierr 09-09-2008 04:31 AM

I'm just going to go with the 10 pounds/209 plan, that should work! :)

Dark Angel Jade 09-09-2008 05:07 AM

O o o o pick me! pick me! Im in!
Ok il go with getting to 154lbs by halloween. I love halloween more than my birthday so il stick to it :D

Fat Chick B Gone 09-09-2008 07:23 AM

Way to liven things up a bit around these parts!! I'll check back later to see what you've decided for the challenge.

jillnicole03 09-09-2008 09:22 AM

Awesome to have MORE people join!

Okay.... the CHALLENGE starts today everyone! :)

We're having a :witch:HALLOWEEN VEGGIE CHALLENGE!:cb:

For everyone who would like to be a part of our challenge just put what you weigh now and what you're challenging yourself to weigh by Oct 31st.
Also what you're hoping to weight by Sept. 30th! I'll keep track of everyone!

Would Friday be a good day to put your 'final week weigh in' or would another day work better for anyone?????
We'll weigh in each week and the day we pick I'll post all of our stats by the end of that day!

We can do it!! :dust:

jillnicole03 09-09-2008 09:29 AM

Okay so to start off the challenge...

My name is: Jill
Current weight: 177 lbs
Sept 30th Mini-Goal: 170 lbs
Oct 31st HALLOWEEN VEGGIE CHALLENGE Goal: 162 lbs

So my goal by Oct 31st will be: 15 lbs.... I try to push myself a little higher than I'm sure of... so hopefully that will make me push extra hard!
I know WE can do it! And so you know I'm addicted to 3FC so I'll be happy to put in any support whenever you all need me, and I'm sure you all feel the same!

Fat Chick B Gone 09-09-2008 09:33 AM

Great Jill! I love Halloween and I'm hoping to fit into a slightly slinkier costume then normal this year :witch:

Let's see today I'm 208.4
By September 30th I'm hoping for an even 200
By October 31st my goal is 190

I am a calorie counter and put my food into fitday and try to exercise at least 5 times a week. I did well and won the Biggest Loser Challenge within the Red Team last time but have slacked off a bit in the past few weeks. I've considered it progress as I just maintained but now I'm ready to say buh bye to the 200s forever!

Modjeska 09-09-2008 10:07 AM

Ok, me...

Current: 174
Sept 30: 164 (Should be doable since I'm just now getting motivate to try again, and I'll drop a lot of water at first.)
Halloween: Ooo...1...55? Too much? Naw...It'll be okay. 155. Or 160. 1....5...7. And a half. ;)

I'll be eating sensibly, not bingeing (even at 2am in the dark when no one knows but me and the dogs...even if the dogs don't tell on me because I share ;) ), cutting out all fast food and soda with the exception of one bean burrito (hold the cheese) and one diet soda once a week out of sheer necessity, and exercising at least three times a week.

I'll go ticker up. :)

JulieJ08 09-09-2008 10:46 AM

Current weight: 158.5 lbs (my current baseline is 158 even, but it's TOM)
Sept 30th Mini-Goal: 154 lbs
Oct 31st HALLOWEEN VEGGIE CHALLENGE Goal: 146 lbs

I picked easy weight goals because I'm nervous about setting myself up! But anyway, my REAL goal for Halloween is to complete my C25K! I'm on Week 4 so that gives me an extra week and a half. Or maybe my real goal is to not eat any meat (I'm just transitioning to vegetarian right now, and cutting way down on dairy).

Darby1 09-09-2008 10:49 AM

I'd love to join!

I just now weighed myself so I'm starting at 214.

September goal-208
Halloween goal-200

I just had blood work done and my doctor called me to discuss my results. I don't understand how a vegan can have high cholesterol, but I do. Not terrible, but 211. She also said my triglycerides were way up. I need to do some research on that; I don't understand what causes that.

I'm also working on the C25K program. I've been slacking a bit on the exercise front, so I'm going to kick it up too.

Good luck, everyone!

Dark Angel Jade 09-09-2008 10:54 AM

Current Weight: 167lbs
Halloween Goal: 154lbs and to have been vegan for that long

Good luck people :D
xxxxxxxx

Fat Chick B Gone 09-09-2008 10:56 AM

Darby I'm sorry to hear that and very shocked myself. I'd pretty much written off cholesterol as a health concern since becoming vegan, apparently not the case. Please keep us updated and good luck!

Fat Chick B Gone 09-09-2008 10:58 AM

Just curious - what is everyone in the challenge? Julie mentioned she's transitioning to vegetarian. I think Darby has been vegan for a while?

I went vegan in May of this year, almost cold tofurkey. I had a few products that I was trying to use up but after about a week just packed them all up and hauled to my mom's house. I've not regretted my decision for a second!

Dark Angel Jade 09-09-2008 11:04 AM

Ive been vegetarian since i was 7 and only recently vegan :) Theres so much vegan junk food tho so trying to stick to whole foods instead! I feel better for it!

:)

Modjeska 09-09-2008 11:43 AM

Vegetarian for the most part since the mid 90s; Vegan for almost two years now. :)

Darby, I'm sure your doctor told you that high cholesterol can have a genetic component. I'd also examine your intake of processed foods and see if that might be the culprit.

Darby1 09-09-2008 11:53 AM

I've been vegan for 7 years and I was vegetarian for a year before that. Dark Angel Jade--you're right-there's way too much yummy vegan junk food. When I first went vegan I had no idea what to eat, so I lost tons of weight because I ate only almonds and fruit for a while. Then I discovered Whole Foods and Trader Joe's and suddenly it wasn't so hard to eat anymore.

Heather, I looked up the causes of high triglycerides on WebMd and here's what it says:

Obesity.
Poorly controlled diabetes.
An underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism).
Kidney disease.
Regularly eating more calories than you burn.
Drinking a lot of alcohol.

So, yeah, I'm overweight, I regularly eat more calories than I burn and I do indulge in alcoholic beverages fairly regularly. Is it a alot? I don't know. I probably average a glass of wine a night. Although yesterday we went to a concert and I had 4 beers. But that doesn't happen a lot.

Anyway, for those of you just starting out, good luck and ask lots of questions! Those of us who have been doing this for a while have a lot of information to share.

KindyMom 09-09-2008 12:29 PM

OK, I'm mostly a lurker but I'm in....

Current weight: 162.5 lbs
September 30 goal: 160 lbs
Halloween goal: 157 lbs

Sheila53 09-09-2008 01:45 PM

I'd like to join in, too, although I'm moving, which adds an extra challenge.

Current weight: 158.5
September 30 goal: 156
Halloween goal: 153.5

THE Heather 09-09-2008 03:02 PM

Okay I'm a bit delayed here!! Haha

Right now I don't know my current weight...I'll know that tonight

But my goal will be 15 pounds by halloween. I have ALOT to lose so that may be possible. I need to stop making these vegan double chocolate brownies!!

Vegan. Will be following WW points... :)

jillnicole03 09-09-2008 03:06 PM

FAT CHICK B GONE... Yeah me too! My significant other wants to try and do a 'comic theme' lol so Maybe Poison Ivy and Batman or something... I dunno if I could even begin to try to pull that off!!! Haha but hey maybe that will help me have a picturable goal, even if I can't! Sounds like you set great goals! Congrats on your previous challenge win!! :woohoo: I hope during this challenge you can say HELLO ONEDERLAND! :)
I'm vegan-vegetarian lol Definitley vegetarian.. newly full blown also trying vegan... but giving myself 30days to learn
all the ins and outs... I don't drink milk/cheese anything like that. everything soy, but at a restaurant they put cheese on top of my soup which I
spooned off (make sure I'll ask about that next time) and accidentally got some Organic Tomato that had small amount of milk in it... so trying my hardest
but learning where I need to pay attention to and learning! :)

jillnicole03 09-09-2008 03:08 PM

MODJESKA... 157 and a half sounds wonderful =] Sounds like great goals you've set up! Excitinggg!

JULIEJ08
... Woohoo C25K!! That's awesome!! Have you tried the different types of milk (almond milk, soy milk, cocunut milk etc)? That might help! And maybe adding in some fake
meats! I love the fake chickn patties yuummmmmy. We know you can do it!

DARBY1
... You can do it!! :dust: I've also been slacking on the exercise since I'm in Colorado for the week stuck in a tiny
apartment with my sick best friend... but as soon as I'm back home in South Carolina.. we can help slap each other into
shape!! :)

DRAKANGELJADE... Was hoping you'd join!! :D

KINDYMOM
... :welcome: Glad to have ya join!!!

SHEILA53... 2 challenges! You can do it!! :dust:

 TO EVERYONE, THIS LOOKS LIKE A GREAT TEAM WE GOT!!

jillnicole03 09-09-2008 03:10 PM

HEATHER... yup just let me know later when you find out... I'm doing 15lbs as well :) What will your Sept 30th mini goal be? :dust:

Dark Angel Jade 09-09-2008 03:19 PM

Jillnicole, im guessing youve realised by now im not one to keep my mouth closed (or in this case not type) :D
Im down with this idea, might keep me on the healthier side of vegan!
I just made my first ever lentil dish with vegan jalfrayze (however thats spelt) vegan parmasian (again however thats spelt) tofu chunks and cucumber on the side, I think i pretty much rock this evening :D
My mission is to go out for a jog tomorow morning. Actually would a small jog or a longer power walk have more of an effect?
I still think my butt 15lbs lighter would be interesting in a cat woman outfit...ooo i could go as a witch, witches are sexy and supposed too be buxom right? :)
Does anyone find wheat bloats them or keeps the weight on?
xxxxxx

THE Heather 09-09-2008 03:20 PM

well since we're a good week in September I'd say my mini goal will be 6 pounds. Just a little under half way :)

I think that sounds good. Especially since I've started playing basketball again.

Wheat doesn't bloat me...it's soy. I have a hard time with soy. I can have it in moderation i.e: a couple of times a month. But unfortunately I can't make it a part of my everyday rituals.

Dark Angel Jade 09-09-2008 03:29 PM

Oh your kidding? Ive been living on yoghurts n soy milk :( I need to look into that.
Have you tried almond milk? i hear its nice but almonds are sposed to be high in fat but good for you right? I love rice milk but its high gi and sposed to make you gain weight even tho its low fat, the only thing i havnt tried is oat milk, anyone? anyone?
I find pasta EEEEEEEEVIL. i get a spare tire just from eating the tiniest bowl.
Is soy sposed to be good for medical conditions? or a no go?
yes i will continue to ask many a question :D

THE Heather 09-09-2008 03:35 PM

Ehh I use rice milk in my multi grain pancakes. YUM!

As far as the food I eat..I GENERALLY eat whole foods. I don't even buy processed foods...with exception of my pastas and what not.

I just find the whole "vegan" thing easier when I eat nothing but whole foods :D

jillnicole03 09-09-2008 03:36 PM

JADE... I think the longer the better, so I'd go for a long power walk. I just tried Lentils a couple days ago, boiled them in water, onion, garlic and basil. Delicious! Yours sounds good too!!

HEATHER... do you cook alot? I try my best buy can be difficult ;)

As much as I can. I love to cook! It allows me to be creative and put all of my favorite flavors together....so I never get bored. Good thing is, I can take my left overs to work, so I can always ensure that I'm getting a well balanced vegan meal while I'm not at home :D

Dark Angel Jade 09-09-2008 04:09 PM

Im debating going back to rice milk now, I had an argument with my bf about soy having more fat in than normal milk, the war never ends i tell ya!
Im addicted to bananas with soya spread on oatcakes, need to cut down on those aswell.
Anyone know where to get some good vegan soup recipe's?

We're so gonna kick butt on this, go vege's go vege's :D

THE Heather 09-09-2008 04:17 PM

Do you have any cook books like Veginomicon or Vegan Planet?? That's where I get my soups. Or I like to make my own with whatever veggies I have...and whatever sounds good. I always have veggie stock on hand...or I make an asian style dish with soy sauce or teryaki.:)

I do like to get creative...so maybe I'm the wrong person to ask lol

jillnicole03 09-09-2008 05:12 PM

Best Lentil Soup Ever
Submitted by Vicki

Ingredients:

3-4 cups dried lentils (red lentils cook up to a pretty bright yellow!)
4-5 cups water or vegetable broth
dried onion
dried celery
dried zucchini
minced garlic
crushed red pepper
3" piece dried Kombu (a type of seaweed)
handful of Arame (another seaweed)
Directions: Place all ingredients into crockpot. Cook all day on 'Low' setting.

Variation: To leftover soup, I have added leftover grilled vegetables: red onion, summer squash, Portobello mushrooms, and eggplant, cut in thick slices, rubbed with olive oil and drizzled with fat-free Italian dressing, then grilled. Buzz the leftover soup and grilled veggies through the food processor, and stir everything together.

Comments:
Feel free to add whatever you have on hand. Carrots, either in the initial cooking or as one of the grilled veggies would be great.

There's no salt in the original recipe. I don't normally salt as I cook, but rather allow people to salt to taste their own individual servings.

Freezes well. Freeze meal-size portions in quart-size freezer bags.

There is so many websites with great ideas for vegan recipes!
