DARBY... I listen to a little of everything, no hard metal though sorry theheather :p

Usually all the stuff they have on the hit radio stations... country, r & b, some rap if its not crazy, the easy listening punk music :)

I'm still not in my house yet so the scale is packed, and I haven't had access to one. Should be able to weigh-in next week or the week after. The flooring guys have been doing their thing and should be done enough this weekend that we can start moving some stuff in.

THE Heather 10-03-2008 02:31 PM

I just realized that I said hardcore was close to my hair..

What the...?

Hahah oh well. it's humorous!!!

Yeah, my musical taste is pretty obvious. The picture in my profile is me with my favorite musician. It's pretty obvious what kind of music I listen to by that :p

kierr 10-03-2008 09:12 PM

For music i am a cross between Darby and TheHeather. My favorite band is System of a Down. :) I like everything but country and gangster rap.

Darby: I went on it for health reasons. If I didn't have high cholesterol and a huge family history of heart disease I would probably just calorie count. ;) However I have been following it for a month. I am generally following a less than 10% calories from fat, no oil vegetarian diet, with no dairy or eggs. McDougall fits that bill, as does Dr. Ornish, Dr. Esselstyn, etc. The weight is just falling off so fast. I even lost 1/2 a pound over the last 3 days even though it is TOM! Normally I go up a couple pounds then drop after. I'm quite pleased and feel so healthy. I do not feel deprived at all, I know if I want a treat I can just make one myself. :) I have been on an eating plan like this before and lost 70 pounds in 7 months. Then I fell off the diet was ate all kinds of junk. I'm sticking to it this time. I don't want to be burdened with heart disease at any age, much less a young one. :)

iriswhispers 10-04-2008 01:48 AM

lots of rock: classic stuff and indie. and some alternative. but I like most kinds of music, depending on my mood.

jillnicole03 10-04-2008 12:29 PM

So I love finding new foods I can eat... my new fav....

1 whole wheat tortilla
1/2 c mushroom spaghetti sauce (with oregano, crushed peppers, basil, & garlic)
olives
pineapple

I put the olives & pineapple in toaster oven. Heat the sauce. Then my tortilla on pan. Then put ingredients on half on the tortilla and then flip over like a fajita =]

300 calories for a large treat

Darby1 10-04-2008 02:25 PM

jillnicole-how did you come up with that combo? It sounds like a strange combination, but I bet it tastes a bit like pizza!

kierr-I know what you mean about fast weight loss! The problem I have with it is that I never stick with it. The longest I've done McDougall is 3 weeks. I know that it's the healthiest way for me to eat, yet I always sabotage myself. But I'm going to keep working at it until it sticks.

Well, I walked 4 miles today, so feeling proud of myself. I got on the scale and it's showing that I dropped down 2.5 lbs. Now I don't know if that's due to my eating plan or due to the end of TOM, but either way, I'll take it!

Have a great Saturday!

iriswhispers 10-04-2008 07:10 PM

jillnicole, that recipe reminds me of how much i used to love pineapple on pizza!

jillnicole03 10-04-2008 07:22 PM

Yeah its just like pizza, I just wanted to use tortila instead of pizza bread since its more low cal and thin :)

jillnicole03 10-06-2008 03:02 PM

Hey everyone.. hows your week so far!

Fat Chick B Gone 10-06-2008 03:27 PM

Hey girlies, I'm busy this week but will pop in and out. I went to Asheville this weekend to visit a friend. Oh the town is soo vegan friendly and I had a delicious lunch followed by a vegan cookie and a few truffles from a chocolate shop in downtown. Didn't need it but it's so rare to me to be able to walk in and see "vegan" clearly labeled that I got excited!

Music - rock n roll girl with the occasional jazz or reggae

Darby1 10-06-2008 07:35 PM

Aaargh! I just wrote a long post and it disappeared!

Anyway, Heather, your weekend sounds fab.

I realized I leave for my vacation exactly 10 weeks from today, so I need to kick it up a notch. I've got a pair of great black pants and a pair of jeans I want to be able to wear.

Have a great night!

iriswhispers 10-07-2008 12:29 AM

fat chick b gone - asheville in NC? I want to go there... I've heard lots about it and am currently working with a lady from there.

this week is off to quite a start. I'm definitely getting enough sleep, but still CONSTANTLY exhausted. I don't know what's up. I talked to my parents the other day, but am NOT mentioning this... I know what they will tell me - that I need to eat meat. I'm pretty sure that's not it... I know I'm doing fine w/ my protein and my iron should be okay as well. I still eat dairy so my B vitamins shouldn't be too low, either. My dad is seriously convinced every time something is wrong with my health that it is because I stopped eating meat. What can I say? I grew up on a farm with a meat & potatoes kind of family. They all think i'm whack-o.

Fat Chick B Gone 10-07-2008 08:08 AM

Iris - yep Asheville, NC. I live about 2.5 hours away so I get to go there every once in a while. It really is a gorgeous and friendly area - I always have a great time. Can you get your blood and nutrient levels tested? I'd suspect with dairy you're fine on B12 however it could be low iron or another significant nutrient. Better safe then sorry. Do you take a multi-vitamin?

Darby - You can make so much progress in 10 weeks!

I'm feeling like some pumpkin today! I'm going to make Pumpkin baked ziti with caramelized onions and sage crumb topping from Veganomicon and I think Pumpkin muffins tomorrow morning from VwaV. I may turn orange - watch out!

jillnicole03 10-07-2008 09:44 AM

FATCHICKBGONE... Glad you had fun! Asheville is only 2 1/2 hours from me, I'll have to try to go there sometime :) Do you live in SC?

IRIS... I've been really tired lately as well even though I'm sleeping enough, thinking maybe because I don't move enough lol

DARBY.. You can do it!! :cheer2:

Charlotte :)

jillnicole03 10-07-2008 10:57 AM

Oh cool :) About 3 hours from me.

iriswhispers 10-07-2008 02:33 PM

When I go back to the east coast (my family mostly lives in PA) I will have to take a road trip to asheville!

hmm... I do take a multi-vitamin. Unfortunately I totally can't afford getting bloodwork done. I had it last time I was like this and it was super-expensive and they said everything looked good, so no help anyway. Eventually it passed. Jillnicole, you may have a point about being active... sometimes I think if I get up and do something instead of taking that nap I feel like I desperately need it can be helpful. I might as well give it a try - nothing to lose, right?

fatchick b gone, that pumpkin ziti recipe sounds DIVINE. I must get a copy of veganomican. I keep hearing such wonderful things mentioned from it!

Fat Chick B Gone 10-07-2008 03:18 PM

Totally true - I know I feel tired and lazy when I've been slacking on the exercise. Vicious cycle it is! Could also be the changing of the seasons that's causing a bit of a drag.

OMG just had the pumpkin ziti for lunch. Delish! Took a bit to prepare but worth it and I was doing two other things as the same time. As almost always I halved the olive oil and EB they call for so all in all a pretty decent calorie meal. I think I'm going to make it for Thanksgiving. I can eat it as my meal in lieu of the Turkey and sides and maybe even some of the omnis will give it a whirl (ssh it looks like baked mac n cheese!)
If you do a search for Pumpkin Ziti with Carmalized Onions and Cashew Ricotta there are several sites that have it posted.

Sounds very tasty. What is EB?

Fat Chick B Gone 10-07-2008 06:55 PM

Oops sorry EB= Earth Balance. Just the vegan margarine I use.

kierr 10-08-2008 09:15 PM

Yay, I hit my Halloween goal weight. I'll have to lower it to, ohhhhh, say 204? Maybe maybe! :) How is everyone today? It is quiet in here. ;)

Fat Chick B Gone 10-09-2008 09:47 AM

Congrats Kierr!!

I'm good - still doing battle with the buffer weight. I think drinking may be a bit of an issue with it also - I've had a lot of social activities lately that revolve around drinks. It's not only the empty calories from that but the poor eating choices the next day. So until I get under 200 I'm nixing any alcohol drinks ;-) Talk about motivation to make that goal!!

jillnicole03 10-09-2008 09:51 AM

Yay KIERR!!! :cheer2:

Darby1 10-09-2008 10:34 AM

Good job Kierr!

Well, yesterday we had to put one of our dogs to sleep. It was very unexpected and sad and awful.

Anyway, I haven't slept well in two days and yesterday I didn't eat at all except for a handful of pretzels. I did drink many beers, though, hoping I'd be able to sleep, but no. This morning I'm just craving comfort foods and lots of them. I'm trying to reign myself in, though.

Here's a picture of my boy. I am going to miss him so much.

Fat Chick B Gone 10-09-2008 11:07 AM

Oh Darby, my heart goes out to you. It's so hard to lose a member of the family. Just take care of yourself right now.

THE Heather 10-09-2008 11:57 AM

I need to start cooking again.

That is all.

I have become the dreaded "junk food vegan"

o_0

Fat Chick B Gone 10-09-2008 07:15 PM

On the junk food vegan theme :) I just had AWESOME nachos for dinner. I used this http://shmooedfood.blogspot.com/2006...heese-dip.html for the cheese (omitted pimento and added cayenne pepper). Soooo goood.

kierr 10-10-2008 12:12 AM

Awwww Darby! I feel so bad for you! We have 3 cats and 3 dogs, so you know we are animal lovers around here too. Take care of yourself.

jillnicole03 10-10-2008 08:15 AM

Aww sorry Darby!!

The Heather... Maybe if you look up some new recipes that will help :)

Darby1 10-10-2008 10:04 AM

Thank you so much for your thoughts. It means a lot. I'm feeling a bit better and ready to get back into my routine.

So, I weighed in this morning and I lost 4 lbs! Very excited about that. That puts me at 210. I haven't worked out since last Saturday, so I've got an errand to run later and then I'm going to walk a trail near my house that's about 4 miles. Today's the last nice day before the snow starts flying, so I need to take advantage of it.

Have a great Friday!!

jillnicole03 10-10-2008 11:24 AM

Today Is Weigh In... And Darby Is 4 Lbs Down!! Woohooo! Go Darby!

Dont Forget To Weigh In Today Everyone, It Is Friday...

Jill: 175

Darby: 210

THE Heather 10-10-2008 11:43 AM

Darby, I'm sorry I didn't even see your post! I'm sorry for your loss :(

But congrats on the WI!

Unfortunately I won't be able to WI this week because I'm in a place where I can't. I'll definately be getting back to you guys though!

KindyMom 10-10-2008 11:54 AM

I weighed in at 159 today. I'm finally able to wear some pants I ordered this summer, LOL.

I'm sorry for your loss, Darby. I think it is harder when it is unexpected. :(

iriswhispers 10-10-2008 05:42 PM

i'm not weighing myself right now because I'm trying to focus on being healthy and the scale is kind of sabotaging that.

JulieJ08 10-10-2008 06:19 PM

Today's weight is 153.

CHICKpea3241 10-10-2008 06:32 PM

Hii girls

Darby: Im soo sorry about your loss:(

It is that TOM for me rite now but my scale said 146.5 this morning

I've been exercising like never before....I am determined to do atleast 45 mins. a day....and btw I had the worst cramps yest. but my cousin pushed me to do a spin class and it helped alot w/ the cramps.

Hope all is well and have a great weekend
P.S. If anyone wants to get a sinful but guiltfree book that satisfies cupcake cravings I highly recommend "Vegan Cupcakes take over the World" by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero....Unbelievable!
I made the basic chocolate cupcakes w/ fudgy frosting ( was craving Chocolate badd) and there gone...my brother had no idea they were vegan!
