Lose or gain we're all still here for you, and it happens to all of us. Of course we all want to lose weight, but come on since when did things get easy! We can do it, slow or fast, all of us! :dust: |
Hey there,
I had such a crazy week last week that I was too scared to get on the scale! So for Friday's weigh in I'm just sticking my head in the sand. We went to Boulder on Saturday to have lunch. The restaurant was all vegan, fast food type of place. It was AWFUL!! It was very expensive ($40 for 3 of us) and the food was just terrible. So, if you're ever in Boulder, avoid VG Burgers. You guys are doing great with the weight loss. I'm so proud of you all. |
I find it hard to find tasty vegan places. I am not a vegan, but have vegan tendencies so I like trying vegan restaurants out. I suppose that makes it all the better when you do find one.
|
DARBY.. ok was it soo bad because it was so fattening or gross? :P
Littlelily, what state are you in? It's great to look up on a search engine like yahoo or google different vegan friendly restaurants. I went to one while I was in Denver, CO it was so dang good! Watercress I think it was called. :) |
Jillnicole-I both had a "chicken" parmesan sandwich. All they did was microwave some type of frozen chicken cutlet thing, put some tomato sauce and some tasteless "cheese" sauce on it and put it on a bun. I got a side order of mac & cheese and it was just noodles with a blob of the same blah cheese sauce. It was just really bland, and if I'm paying those kind of prices, I really expect something that I can't easily make at home.
There are tons of vegan friendly restaurants up there, so I'm sure next time I'll have a great experience. |
DARBY.. that sucks!!!! I'm sorry :( That's so horrible. Grrr! I hate that, its like seriously why pay for something you can make better!
|
yuck, i can make better "chicken" parm at home! better luck next time!
|
Hey chickies- I just wanted to share a great website I found with lots of vegan recipes!!!
maybe you all have seen it but I haven't and with the winter coming up I love new soup and crock pot recipes I can try out!!! www.fatfreevegan.com |
Hey girls
THat does stink..I hate when vegan food is bland. It should never be. I made chickpea cutlets...Delicious! and def. not bland... Got the recipe from Veganomicon. that is a great cookbook. Well hope you all have a great day! Jill- I love that you posted about the Skinny BI*** book...I know how u feel you want the world to know how easy the transition is and how great u look and feel! I'm constantly gettin in trouble by my own family about telling them too much information. Oh well when I believe in something I tell it! :D |
there is a website I use to find veg restaurants. its called happy cow.
it breaks it down by state and then city. you can write reviews as well. its a cute little website. as far as the weigh in I am still the same....holding at 270 hopefully by friday i will be down something! I also couldnt help but notice I am the heaviest in the contest....its seems odd to tell people I am a vegan sometimes given how big I am and they expect a vegan to be a little pale girl. haha surprise! |
Oh Jasmine anyone can be overweight. Good lord I could eat pasta everyday and really pack it on!! However I do understand what you're saying. I've had nosy people ask me how much weight I've lost since becoming vegan. I always explain it's the calorie-counting and exercising that does it NOT just being vegan. Am I healthier being vegan - dur of course but again pasta, nuts, PB, all that stuff is really high calorie. People are so silly sometimes!
rdw1 - I like the webstite you posted, I've done several of her recipes and they've all turned out well. I'm hanging in there this week. Food has been a bit high this week - I've been extra hungry for some reason. Maybe it's the cooler weather and my body thinking it needs to store up? I haven't run this week either and will tonight - think I need to in order to get a bit of a loss this week! |
Thanks Chickpea :) I kinda feel like people get mad that I loved the book, its silly for me not to share about something that made me so happy... sheesh! :)
|
Jill - people are sometimes threatened by different (and better!) ways of thinking and living. Brush it off, you did nothing wrong.
|
YEah I do! I feel good about what I'm doing so that helps! Plus, I have all of you, my vegetarian/vegan family
|
There's a place 15 minutes from me that only sells vegetarian entrees. At least half of the menu is vegan. It's AMAZING!
I just got back from it! ^^ |
I'm near a place called One World Vegetarian Cuisine. I've gotta try is sometime. There are some good review - unfortunately the most praise is for the desserts!
|
I loved the book too, not necessarily all the language(I guess I didn't really read it, I listened to it on cd;))...
I too don't understand the weight lost since becoming vegetarian- I have actually gained a few lbs!!!! lol Guess they think you can only get bigger eating flesh- eew. going to happy cow now- sounds interesting!!! You chickies are doing great! |
That's awesome, I wish I had some vegetarian or vegan places to eat around me! This part of South Carolina just has NO options, but when I'm back in California it should be better. :)
RDW... I've heard a lot that when you first go vegetarian you lose about 10 lbs and when you first go vegan you lose about 30 lbs... so maybe its only those beginning stages when your body is cleaning house?? That's my guess lol Don't know! Yeah I feel I have been losing weight pretty effortlessly with the switch to vegan food, but slowly. |
Hey everyone!
I'm Dee and I just learning to become a vegetarian after reading skinny b*tch. So far everything is going well, but I hoped I could join in on your chatter. I don't know any other vegetarians/vegans here so your support will really help. I know it's almost halloween, but my goal is to not eat any cheese, milk, or dairy products. I'm going on a road trip this weekend from Ireland (where I'm studying at a university) to Belfast in Northern Ireland from friday afternoon to monday night. I'm traveling with 3 guys (who eat a lot of chocolate) and my friend Liz (who eats a ton of candy), so hopefully I will be able to stick on plan. I went to a farmer's market and bought a lot of fruit and vegetables so that when we stop for meals I won't have to buy something if there isn't anything vegetarian. Hopefully they will understand my choice and it won't be strange if i don't buy lunch or dinner with them. Wish me luck! I'll let you know how it went when I get back. |
Welcome tigger :) You definitely can join  I read the book as well Sept 2and and have been a strict vegetarian since. No meat, or dairy products. It actually is much easier than I realized. There are so many great things to eat! Feel free to ask any questions if you get stuck. I make something new usually every other day. I also love 'fake meat'. :welcome2:

Either challenge would be good. It's so hard to believe that we're so close to the holidays!!
|
Arrrggghhhhh Holidays - cannot believe they're here already! I'm in for another challenge. lol my goals won't be quite as lofty this time!
|
I am totally in for another challenge, I think I would prefer Christmas challenge though-but I am up for either!!!
|
I was thinking Christmas also, longer to get their lol... Yeah now that I know I lose about .5- 1 lb a week, it will be easier to set a reasonable goal. :)
|
Christmas with maybe a Thanksgiving check-in to remind us to stay on track during the busy eating months!
|
Great Idea... Ok our next challenge will be a christmas challenge, and Thanksgiving will be our mini goal!!!!! Yay :)
Remember tomorrow is weigh in :) |
I'm new.
I probably didn't lose too much this week, but I know I lost! Starting weight - 155 |
Hello veggies! Is it okay if I sign up for the mini-challenge? I'm a fairly recent convert to vegetarianism but I LOVE it! I lurk around the boards for support all the time and I figured it was time to start writing as well.
Starting weight- 147.6 |
I made hummus today and it actually turned out good! I've tried it before in the past and couldn't get the texture right.
jillnicole-I was inspired by your wrap post, so we spread the hummus on a tortilla, added lettuce, bell pepper and onion slices. Delicious! I like the idea of a Christmas challenge with a Thanksgiving mini-goal. |
Jill, when are you coming to California, and what parts?
|
I love the idea of a Christmas challenge! Im in Canada so Thanksgiving is long over for me!....Plus, Christmas gives us more time.
|
Ooh, I want to start the mini-challenge before Halloween! This morning I was: 215.2
Halloween goal: 212. We'll see what TOM has to say about that, though... |
Morning Girlies :)
I'm at 201.6 this AM. I'm going to try VERY hard to at least hit 199.8 before next Friday but we'll see. My weight loss has significantly slowed down from before. Partially because I've upped my calories a bit due to running more - I was literlly starving stomach growling at the end of the day. I'm accepting the slow-down the just keeping on keeping on. What are your weekend plans? I'm going to see Saw V tonight and then tomorrow is my roommate's birthday. I'll be making her strawberry cupcakes (vegan!). She's very cool about me being vegan and profits from the tasty treats I make! We're going to a "Gravediggers Ball" Saturday night and I get to dress up - yea! Not quite where I wanted to be weightwise for costumes but I feel pretty good in it. |
SkinnyTeen... No problem, you shouldn't lose that much weight in one week anyways, we want to be healthy :)
Glasgal... Of course you can join! :welcome: We're going to start a new fresh challenge Nov 1st as well. So let this be your warm up! :p Darby... Glad I gave you a new idea for lunch/dinner. I do need to get some hummus!! Julie... I'm from a suburb of Sacramento, and my family moved to Yosemite/Modesto area about 2 years ago.. so somewhere around there! lol So northern Cali. Erin.. yay! Glad you'll be joining the new challenge :) RubbyTummy... Thanks for the comment on my blog :) Ugghh I hate TOM lol its sucha bugger, but you can do it! FatchickBgone: You can do it! Everyday just think of ONEDERLAND!! :cheer2: Hope you have fun with all your activities!! OK ladies for those of you who have not posted your weight, TODAY IS WEIGH IN!!! :) We have one week till Halloween. So get out there and lose that last pound before Halloween ;) YOu girls are such GREAT support, and I'm so glad to have you! If the majority of our group weighs in by the end of today, I will post our weigh in. Good luck everyone :dust: Me: 171 lbs... 2 lb loss this week, yay. |
Ok everyone ready for another HAPPY GOAL :) I found this about loving yourself more, and we deserve it!:
Here's something to try saying every day. Place it on your mirror. It always helps: "Look in the mirror and what do I see? A beautiful girl staring back at me!" "Oh wow!" I thought. Who could that be? [smile and say] "Oh! It's most definitely me!" Keep a list of the things you love about your self or things you've done that if you saw someone else do them, you would love them. For instance, if you scored more in basketball, write it down, then eventually you can build up more pros, to help you know why to love yourself (if you're analytical) Practice Metta meditation. It will help you love yourself and others more. Do what you enjoy. If that is do go out anywhere, or with anyone. Make yourself happy. |
Ugghh, do we have to weigh today? I was 149.5 Sunday, and 149.5 again yesterday, but today ... 151. Timing sucks sometimes.
OK, whining over. ;) At least it's Friday! |
I would say 150 then Julie, unless you know you over ate yesterday major. Otherwise its probably 150 ;)
|
Today I was 158. I will blame TOM. :)
Great idea for the Christmas challenge with Thanksgiving mini-goal. I'm in! |
