Fat Chick B Gone, you not only maintained, you lost! I so understand about wanting to lose faster. It took a 3 week plateau for me to finally be happy with whatever the scale does as long as I'm living healthy and improving ;) Feeling successful makes it so much easier for me to keep it up, much more so than feeling down about the scale.

:carrot: :carrot: :carrot:'s for you!

Darby1 09-30-2008 11:24 AM

Ok, I'm up 2 lbs. from when we started the challenge! That's not good. However, I have started working out again since we started this challenge, so that's good.

Since I doubt I'll be able to lose 16 lbs in a month, I'm going to change my October goal to 208.

Heather, Julie and Kierr-congratulations! You did great!

Jasmine-welcome!!

Jill-people just don't understand. They don't see what the big deal is to just "pull out the chicken pieces" or "take off the pepperoni". I've noticed that lots of restaurants are trying to work with people who have gluten allergies or keep kosher, but we vegans are left out in the cold. Some restaurants don't even have a single vegetarian option. Veganism isn't really a new thing, but it's still considered to be "out there". Oh well, maybe someday...

Alright, I need to figure out how to keep from eating everything in sight so I can lose weight this month!

KindyMom 09-30-2008 12:40 PM

I met my mini-goal by the skin of my teeth: 160 this morning. I was up to 162 over the weekend and didn't think I could do it, but I made a huge effort over the last few days to eat really low-fat, and apparently it worked. I must say that I would not have been able to do it without the incentive of the weigh-in today! This challenge is a great idea, jillnicole03 -- thanks!

KindyMom 09-30-2008 12:42 PM

Um...can anyone tell me how to change my ticker?

...Never mind, I figured it out!

iriswhispers 09-30-2008 01:42 PM

oh, crap, only 3 weeks till halloween?? i am way behind. I'm going to check my weight again tomorrow in hopes that today was a fluke but if not i gained A LOT (6lbs)!! At any rate that scale sure slapped me in the face this morning so i'm feeling re-committed. I'm in the "danger zone" for me.

3 weeks to rock it, let's do it!

Literally laughing out loud when I read this. I really think I spend half my time in a daze also ;) You're doing great though so keep it up!

I'm considering anchors tied to all food. Congrats on beginning the workouts again!

Should be able to go to user CP and look on the left for edit signature.

Jill - thanks again for starting this challenge! It's nice to come here and not read about the healthy grilled chicken someone made last night! I really do like some of the omni girls here and my friends in real life but it's nice to have like-minded people around :D

So - What's everyone thinking of doing for Halloween? Is anyone dressing up?

Not sure where I'm going to go but I really want to dress up as Magenta from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I'm amping up the running this month so my legs will look okay in fishnets :p

iriswhispers 09-30-2008 02:04 PM

I'm definitely dressing up - actually for day of the dead (nov. 2) we have a big parade in town so it should be really exciting! I don't know what I'm wearing yet.

For Halloween the actual day I'm staying in I think. For The weekend before I have to go to a Halloween party but I do not want to dress up. :)

Does anyone have any low fat vegan Halloween treat recipe ideas? I'm vegan with no oil. :) When i go to the party I will be surrounded by stuff I can't eat, unless I bring a treat to share that I can have. So I'm thinking of cupcakes or something but I wonder how to decorate them without oily frosting. Hmmmm.

Darby1 09-30-2008 10:16 PM

kierr-are you doing the McDougall plan? Sorry-I don't have any ideas for an oil free frosting. That's a tough one.

I don't have any Halloween plans. I can't remember the last time I dressed up. If I'm not mistaken, it was 1993 because I was in Korea and my roommate and I had a wild party on the roof of our apartment. That was fun.

KindyMom 09-30-2008 10:45 PM

kierr, have you checked out Fatfree Vegan? I don't think I'm allowed to include links here, but there were a lot of dessert ideas listed on the website.

iriswhispers 10-01-2008 12:18 AM

all right, know what? assuming i HAVE gained 6lbs is a pretty darn good motivator, so I'm going with that and I'll check in on friday and see where I'm at. That means today i am starting October at 139.5 lbs.

btw, kierr, sorry i'm at a loss for oil-free recipes for frosting.

jillnicole03 10-01-2008 10:06 AM

erinmagill 10-01-2008 11:26 AM

Im late joining the Halloween challenge but I decided I would anyway. Today I am 235, and by October 31st, I want to be 220.
I just started exercising and calorie counting this week so it should come off fast the first month.
Good luck everyone!

CHICKpea3241 10-01-2008 01:00 PM

Hey girls

I don't know if its my computer but the last couple of posts i wrote never showed up:?: very annoying since the last one was a long one!!

Anyway i went on the scale a couple of days ago and I was up 2 lbs:( I do know why.....I overate the whole weekend!! I was visiting my friend and where she lives caters to vegans!! its soo great..i was able to enjoy icecream, pizza, and even a breakfast burrito for brunch!!! Delicious! but I knew I was spurlging! Im trying to get it off tho..I've been back on track for the past 2 days. Well u all are doing great:cp: Even if we slip up here and there atleast we are conscious of what we are doing!! There have been soo many times where i would slip up for months even years!! Soo I thanku for this group of friends!! Have a bbbeautiful day!!

Chickpea.. So sorry about your log ins! As soon as I saw you I was going to tell you we missed you! But sounds like
you've been here all along! My comp does that sometimes too SOOO frustrating!! Show that scale whos boss and get back down! It is hard
resisting vegan food when you know you can't actually have 'restaurant' food often. Totally understand!

Well girls I've been sick since Monday and eating soy icecream, ice pops, and soup all day so hopefully I wont gain. My throat hurts though so gotta have icecream lol I think I'll be fine, but we'll see.

EXACTLY!!! :wizard:

Darby1 10-02-2008 09:43 AM

Good morning!

Well, I dropped 2 lbs. since we weighed in, so I guess my hikes are working! I also decided I needed to change my diet. I've done the McDougall plan before with good success (I lost 11 lbs in a month once), but it's quite strict. And strict isn't usually good for me. However, I decided to do this plan to the best of my ability and allow some off-plan foods weekly. It will slow down my weight loss but at least I won't feel really deprived.

Anyway, the plan is just a very low fat vegan diet, heavy on the veggies and starches (potatos, rice, etc.) In fact, when I stick to it I eventually lose my cravings for any junk foods. I'll give it a whirl!

Have a great day!

Dark Angel Jade 10-02-2008 11:23 AM

Oh oh oh, look what i can do now... :D

THE Heather 10-02-2008 02:02 PM

Ahh! I've been behind because I've been SOOOO busy. My car blew up!

So I have to get a new one.

MY WI is 325

o_0

Whoa. :p

kierr 10-02-2008 04:38 PM

You can find Dr. McDougall's boards here for info.

Darby: I follow close to it, for health reasons. I try to stay away from the white rice, white flour, excess white potatoes, etc. I do not add any oil to anything either. I have a cholesterol problem and early heart disease that I am trying to reverse. :)

http://drmcdougall.com/forums/index.php

Darby1 10-02-2008 05:04 PM

jillnicole-This is an overview of the program. There are books, but you can pretty much figure things out just by reading online. There's also a lot of information on the forums that kierr gave a link to.

Kierr-how long have you been on it?

THE Heather-sorry about your car. That stinks.

Fat Chick B Gone 10-03-2008 06:50 AM

Welcome Erin!!

Jill - I hope you're feeling better :)

Jade - I'm glad I'm not the only one that is waiting for the day that she can buy sexy underwear and look good in it!

Darby - I've looked at the McDougall Plan and I think it's great - I just know myself and strick doesn't work! Good luck to you on it though!

Heather - sorry about the car :( Awesome job on your weigh-in!

Okie doke - not sure if we're back to Friday weigh-ins or not but it's my "official" weigh in day so I did. I was at 203.6 this AM. Come to mama onderland!! I can taste it :)

jillnicole03 10-03-2008 09:07 AM

JADE.. You're getting good at theose tickers! :)

JULIE... How's everything going girlie! :cheer2:

THEHeather... 13 lbs lost since starting our challenge! That is phenomenal! You go girl! Keep up the great work! :woohooo:

KIERR & DARBY... Thank you for the McDougall info!

FATCHICKBGONE... Thank you, I actually am feeling better today! Yes, Fridays will still be weigh in day
since we all weighed on Tuesday I figured we could wait till this coming Friday to weigh again, but feel free!
I weighed at 175 this morning :) Yay goodbye 175.5!

Darby1 10-03-2008 09:54 AM

Well, I dropped another half pound, which is cool. So my official weigh in is 213.5.

I bought steel cut oats and I'm very excited to try them this morning. My husband has reserve duty this weekend so it will be very easy to stick to my plan. Weekends are always my downfall, so it will be nice to be able to make a strong start this weekend.

I'm going to go for a walk in an hour or so. It's supposed to get real cold and rainy this weekend (snow in the mountains :o), which means we may get a bit of a flurry as we're at a higher elevation. Ugh. But it's beautiful today, so I may as well take advantage of it!

Question of the day: What kind of music do you listen to?

I listen to almost everything. I was going through my ipod yesterday thinking I have a real mix of music. I'm a rock and roll girl, but I have a couple of country songs on there, and I have some Missy Elliott and Usher. I have some real old rock on there (Rolling Stones, Blind Faith, Skynrd) because that's what my dad listened to when we were growing up. Lots of GnR, and favorites from my teen years: Eddie Money and Triumph. Of course I have music from my alternative period-Depeche Mode and the Cure, Stone Roses and Primal Scream. And lots and lots of Foo Fighters.

So what do you listen to?

JulieJ08 10-03-2008 10:32 AM

Eh, up to 156 today, still TOM. Expected, but so unexciting. But I ran 25 minutes this morning. I'm still not used to being able to do that ;)

THE Heather 10-03-2008 11:58 AM

Darby:
In response of the question of the day.....I listen to variations of hardcore and metal. I do have have some guilty pleasures from the top 40, but hardcore is what's close to my hair :D
