Yeah maybe, the one i have for my face at the moment is Roc baby one because its good for my sensitive skin. I might have a look round town at the weekend and see if I can get a different one. Maybe simples might be ok it is meant to be water resistant but it clearly doesn't apply with buckets of sweat. Mind you I've had it ages I bought a load in bulk maybe its off or something.

BritinNJ 06-07-2006 12:11 PM

Do they not sell sport sunblocks at all? They are a high number, like 45 and they don't run off with sweating during an activity.

My daughter plays tennis for school and uses it all the time, it works great and she has a lovely colour to her, (I love spelling coloUr with a U) :D I can't think what brand it is, but I'll lok when I go outside to hand the washing out in a mo... watch this space.....

peacock 2 06-07-2006 12:14 PM

Yeah they do. Stupid me I thought "Oh I am not sporty - I won't need that" like the bottle knows if you are doing sports or not!!!

I didn't even know that they sold them so you have to be more sporty than me.

BritinNJ 06-07-2006 01:32 PM

It's called Coppertone Sport :) And I sent some over for a friend back home as he sweats profusely and he says it's the best...It's a thicker consistency and water proof, even though after swimming, you should reapply as with others...

So all you fab runners, get out and buy some, we don't want you all red and blistery after your run in the sun...

Last thing I would do...it's hard to walk here in the sun, the heat radiates through the bottom of your shoes, we had 112 and 113 here at the weekend...my exercise was floating about on the lilo in the pool... I did flap my arms and legs about to put water over me though, don't suppose that counts?

YP1 06-07-2006 02:44 PM

I've got my Team Bupa stuff through, the t-shirt looks far better than the race one, a bit more breathable! And the right size, which always helps.

I managed to make my blister a lot worse this morning :( I had a compeed plaster on it which was fine yesterday, but at some point during my run (6.5 miles ish) it moved and the blister started to reform. I've attacked it again and put another plaster on so hopefully it will start to heal up a bit better soon.

I might need to get some special suncream for Sunday, I don't think the stuff I have will stay on properly and I might need it!

Sarah Ann 06-07-2006 04:22 PM

Hi All

I had a small NSV today (and, boy, do I need ANY kind of victory after the last week....!)

DH and I went to buy some tile fixative and tins of paint, varnish, etc and as we were carrying them out to the car I had a 10ltr container of paint in each hand and DH overheard a young woman say to her male parter 'Look at her - I want arms like that.' Meaning MY arms! MY ARMS - someone wants MY ARMS ..... woo hooo!!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

I bet she didn't want the rest of me though! ;)

I'm resigning myself to the fact that I'm not going to give myself the birthday present that I really wanted - I am not going to shift this last 2lbs in time to reach 13st 2lbs by Sunday. :( :( :(

We're having a nice 'holiday' - we've lots and lots of exercise but probably eating and drinking slightly too much and not drinking anywhere near enough water. My birthday present bicycle arrived today and was in such a bad state that we have returned it for a refund . :(

If I don't get a chance to visit here before, then GOOD LUCK to everyone running over the weekend and I really, really look forward to seeing the pictures - so PLEASE remember to take a camera with you.

 to all

peacock 2 06-08-2006 03:57 AM

Yeah Sarah Ann - there you go - collect compliments wherever you go!!

BritNJ - I have only heard bad things about the Coppertone range -so many people used it and burnt badly - using a high factor too. But most ranges now do a sport one - even a skiing one.

2frustrated 06-08-2006 04:05 AM

 Hey Sarah - I wondered where you were!! Hope you're having a nice holiday time! Those 2lbs are just arbitary, just look at how far you've come, and 2lbs is only 2lbs!!!! It'll come off in no time!! If in doubt, just run a 10k in 30 degrees heat - that'll take 2lbs off no bother!

I got my BUPA stuff yesterday too, I liked the look of the T-shirt, but I haven't had it out of the packet! I got to the gym last night, did legs and chest, I've been forgetting my L-glutamine so I might die tonight!

I am practising my superhydrating for tonight - I'm nearly up to 2L of water already! I've also discovered that my orange squash has sodium in it! About 0.1g per 100ml - which is probably quite a bit when I drink TONS of it over the day. I'm now trying to have it very weak in the hope of weaning myself off it and onto TAP WATER :faint:

Last night we watched Clockwork Orange, which was very amusing since it was just about all filmed at Brunel University, where I studied! It was really funny watching him chuck people in the pond (that isn't filled with water any more) and the fact that he lived in one of the office towers  Very strange! Even the hospital was a bit on campus! But then I fell asleep halfway through - what a numpty!

Ok I must get on - be back later!

Sarah Ann 06-08-2006 09:28 AM

I went swimming this morning (after my LBWO and 2 hour walk with the dogs - some holiday!) I was asking about the cost of monthly/annual gym memberships and got given a leaflet with it all on. It also said that .... if you get FREE PRESCRIPTIONS then you can get in to your local Leisure Centres for half price - I get free prescriptions because of the underactive thyroid thing - but nobody tells you this stuff. How can you know your entitled to it if they don't put a notice on the reception wall or something!!!

Keep your fingers crossed for me - DH noticed that a mole on my back has changed shape/texture and its recently started to itch and bleed so I've got to go to the doctor this afternoon. :(

Fingers crossed for you.

I have a mole on my face a little beauty spot and it tends to get spots behind it and change shape all the time I'm always really worried about it but the doctor said to avoid taking it off if possible because its by my mouth and will probably scar they've measured it and everything though. If its itchy though and bleeding its def worth being concerned its one of the things I was told to watch out for. might just be your tops rubbing against it though or a spot of sunburn. My cousin has had 3 taken off and none have turned out to be cancerous yet.

2frustrated 06-08-2006 09:41 AM

:crossed: Take care of yourself Sarah

Sarah Ann 06-08-2006 09:47 AM

Its actually on a bit of my back that I can't see and which never gets exposed to the sun. TBH I never noticed it until about 2 months ago when DH said something along the lines of 'do you know you've got a mole on your back which is getting darker' but its really changed texture and size in the last week or two. I'm not *too* worried because cancer isn't something we've ever had in my family (they have all died from heart attacks or strokes instead). I know genetics isn't infallible but I'm hoping it'll make it less likely that its skin cancer.

peacock 2 06-08-2006 09:49 AM

Sarah Ann - you have reminded me I have a mole type thing on my back which is getting raised mainly cos I thought it was a flat type of spot and kept scratching it! I am also hoping the Dr will removed the 'necklace' of skin tags on my neck which get caught up in clothing and I find them unsightly.

My friend has a mole removd years ago and the silly sods at the hospital lost it. We did have a laught about it but blimey!

peacock 2 06-08-2006 09:59 AM

Yeah I never noticed mine on my back until I had a blitz on the old cocoa butter and was rubbing it in. It is hard to notice unless you have a full length mirror!!

What is annoying me even more (though from a health view point not such a worry) is hard lumps - dunno if it is a cyst or not but I have one on the side of my finger. The doctor said they won't remove it cos could lead to infection. I seem to have similar lumps that come up on the soles of my feet. Rather annoying really

Pachyderm 06-08-2006 11:42 AM

Peacock, if it is a cyst it shouldn't feel like it is tied down in anyway. If by pushing and prodding it you can move it around, then it probably is a cyst, and should hopefully go away on its own in time.

Sarah Ann 06-08-2006 12:31 PM

It wasn't anything to worry about (I think!) He was very re-assuring, measured it and told me to come back in a month or sooner if I'm worried about it.

Thing is... I wouldn't have gone in the first place if I hadn't been worried about it.

I get those cysts - sort of hard raised flat lumps - I've got one on the outside of each arm and the top of each thigh - I've had them for years and they've just started started getting smaller. (Another doctor told me not to worry about them years ago.) They don't hurt or anything - just look a bit strange cos they don't tan.

YP1 06-08-2006 03:21 PM

I've got a night in on a Thursday! Bliss! I'm between Spanish courses (the old one finished last week, the new one should start next week if it's running), so I get to stay in and do all my washing and packing for the weekend because I'm out tomorrow night. I picked up my train tickets on the way home, and I'm getting my new trainers in the morning, and then I'll be ready!

Sarah Ann, hopefully the doctor is right and it's nothing to worry about. At least now you've spotted it you can keep an eye on it.

I'm sure I had something else to say, but it's gone straight out of my head. Ah well. I've got a rest day scheduled for tomorrow and I'm looking forward to the prospect of an early night AND a lie in. Bliss! I would have gone for a swim tomorrow with not doing anything on Saturday either, but the pool is closed today and tomorrow, and I'm definitely not running or doing weights, so I think I'll sleep instead :)

impossible princess 06-08-2006 03:30 PM

Sodding Johnsons holiday sun its meant to be a gradual tan its not meant to make you look liek Michelle Heaton :(

I got myself a knee support today and a cheap cap care of decathlon their sports bras were terrible though I'll be better in my ancient one until I can get one thats decent (I've only got little boobs anyway)

You girls when you run do you have a belt or something to keep your keys and water in. I need something for a bit of money, housekey, water bottle and inhaler as I cant run without them but they do my head in.

They seemed to have little wrist things for money which were good but not big enough or big belts with water bottles in and they looked like the bottle would fall out which would really annoy me. ANy suggestions I was thinking of a really mini backpack but I cant find any.

YP1 06-08-2006 03:40 PM

I have shorts with a little zip pocket in the back. I only really carry my keys and my iPod (round my neck), sometimes with a bit of cash in there too (or a bus pass occasionally if I don't think I'll make the distance). I carry my water bottle in my hand, although I only tend to take one out if I'm running for more than an hour or if it's hot.

I'm getting a Camelbak though, one of those hydration rucksacks where you have a reservoir of water and a drinking tube, with a smallish pocket for carrying stuff. I'll let you know what it's like when it arrives!

I saw someone running with one of those water bottle belts on Sunday, and sure enough about 200 metres in it fell out. There are some where the bottle is at an angle that look better made than some of the cheap looking ones, I think the ones I saw were Nathan Triangles.

Moo :) 06-08-2006 03:52 PM

I hate Granary bread but have just discovered Hovis White Granary with bits of stuff mmmmm with Laughing Cow cheese (light) mmmmmmmmmmm

I put it round me in the shop and jiggled and it fell out so I knew it'd fall out. Stupid things. The belt did have a good pocket on it but it was too thick it would annoy me I wonder if I can get a smaller one from somewhere.

I really need water and my inhaler or else I'll be all over the place I think I'll have to find a little bag from somewhere they had one little string pull one but it wouldn't close properly so I thought theres no point to it.

Wheres the best place to get a sports bra from? As I said the decathlon ones were rubbish and I don't know any independent bra shops. Do any of the high street chains do good sports bras mine is going into hole I got it from contessa way back in the dark ages I've had it years so i def need one and despite having little boobs its still best to get as much support as poss.

Can't wait for the review of the ruck sack they sound like a good plan.

YP1 06-09-2006 02:31 AM

I've been up and about for a bit sorting stuff out for the weekend and I've been to pick up the new trainers, they look exactly the same as the old ones (but a different colour - they match the tshirts for Sunday!) so fingers crossed that's the end of the foot/leg problems (as long as I remember to replace them earlier this time so I have two pairs on the go at once).

Hopefully the weather will be nice this evening, I'm going to the rugby after work and it's in Leeds which is my favourite game of the year because I can just potter my way up there via a beer garden or two :) I've packed some healthy food so that I can indulge on beer rather than having beer AND chips ;)

2frustrated 06-09-2006 04:13 AM

OMG Johnson's Holiday skin - that really :censored: me over! In the end I had to use fake tan corrector wipes AND a sisal scrubber with lots of soap in the bath and it came off ok!! But yeah :censored: :frypan:

As for sports bras I like the Berlei Shock Absorbers which are stocked in all good Debenhams :D They rock!

Oh I went kickboxing last night and sweated buckets :D It's a good job I super-hydrated, I think the 5L I drank during the day was JUST enough to keep me from falling over! I felt really thirsty afterwards too and ended up with a dehydration headache when I got home  So I should've drunk more!!!! The instructor said at the beginning of the class that he'd JUST eaten a McDonalds World Cup Big Mac, large fries and large milkshake, so he said anyone sparring with him should aim for his stomach! Well I sparred with him in our second round and landed a good one right in his gut! It's not often I land one on Lee, but when I do, it's always a goodun! :hyper:

I also made it right down into box splits! Hooray! :hyper: :dancer: Everyone was most impressed! I'm having trouble with side splits though, they are next to be practised! I think it's because of my sciatica and my back, my muscles are all right, but the nervy pain stops me going lower!

It's my day of rest today! I am skipping the gym in order to rest for Sunday! I shall have a nice nap :D

peacock 2 06-09-2006 04:19 AM

So 2 frus - were you tangoed by Johnsons Holiday skin??

There is no way I am attempting any fake tan stuff - I will end up patchy and tangoed all over. It makes me look 'Dirty' anyway.

More fool your instructor for telling you to aim for his gut!

2frustrated 06-09-2006 04:48 AM

Oh yeah, I was well n truly tangoed! I think I would've taken more care if 'd known quite how MUCH fake tan stuff was in it - next time it will be better, it was a nice colour, but I came out a little stripey!

Yeah my instructor still thinks he's world champion sometimes!

peacock 2 06-09-2006 04:52 AM

What did the stuff smell like cos fake tan used to stink.

I used some stuff on holiday called tan accelerator - I did not realise it had fake tan in it- it ruined a load of my clothes with brown marks all over them. Luckily I had got little vest tops from Primark so no probs about chucking them (did not wash out - even with vanish!)

PhatPhoenix 06-09-2006 04:59 AM

I got one of those belt things cheap last year - nothing falls out of mine, and it makes you feel a bit like Lara Croft... But, for some reason, I still prefer to carry my water in a kiddie's backpack I bought in a mountaineering shop last year! I bought one in irridescent orange so I'm more visible on the road as where I live there are no pavements to run on. It's less of a faff, somehow, than the belt thing. I run with a rather chubby bull terrier so I have to stop now and then so the water's for him too (I just pour it on the end of his snout, a bit like a running tap). But I found the smallest kiddies' backpacks work just fine and mine only cost a fiver from a designer outlet. I did once have some pensioners stop me in their car asking for directions, and they thought I was doing marines training or something, with a weight in the backpack - I think my dad did it when he was a Para! But all I have in it is water and my mobile and it's lighter by the time we're back home.

Sunburn-wise, I've been alternating Dr Hauschka Factor 22 and Neals Yard lavender sun cream also Factor 22, and both are working well. Except for I spent part of yesterday afternoon on a sun lounger and forgot to do the last 6" of my legs that were poking out from my trousers so I now have very fetching lobster pink 'socks'. You know what they say about mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the mid day sun? I do it all the time - just can't resist!

impossible princess 06-09-2006 06:00 AM

Well I used the stuff before and didn't go very orange jut a bit darker but this time when I used it t had gone a bit liquid so I mixed it up in the bottle so I think that all the fake tan must have been in the bottom before oops.
I've been in the shower again and babywiped myself but no good.

I had people staring at me yesterday I'm that yellowy orange I could audition for a part in the simpsons I'm such a strange colour.

Well I'm going running tonight I went to go out this morning and got as far as opening the front door the heat hit me and I thought I'm not going out in this.

2frustrated 06-09-2006 06:03 AM

Peacock - it didn't smell like fake tan at all, however when it was developing it had a faint hint of that musky smell you get when you tan. I did manage to get it on the sofa though! Whoops! If it had said on the bottle "Wait until dry to dress - or sit on cream sofas" Then perhaps I would've realised quite how strong it was!

Anyone tried the Dove equivalent? Is that less tanning? It was a toss up between Johnson's and Dove - Johnson's was about 20p cheaper!!!

Pachyderm 06-09-2006 06:06 AM

I only went for a walk today, but I still got very hot and sweaty. It took an hour for my face to return to a normal colour! Mind you, I often find it less humid in the mornings than the late afternoon/evening.

2frustrated 06-09-2006 06:13 AM

Hello m'dear ;) Less of the "only"! Well done for setting off on your walk! I'm cowering inside with the fan on full blast! Actually I did venture outside to save some daisies from certain death... They're now round my neck!

My mum says the dove one is better so I'd imagine its lighter.

Check out my student of the year pic! http://uk.geocities.com/shentiekickboxing/grade.html I'm the one with hair!

kykaree 06-09-2006 08:28 AM

Oh dear, my server at work won't let that page open, is there something rude on it  :D

I've not had any problems with the holiday skin, but I don't put it on my face. And when I'm using it, I use it every second day. I want to try the night one.

2frustrated 06-09-2006 08:29 AM

:chin: Hmmmm I dunno.... Maybe....

Sarah Ann 06-09-2006 09:41 AM

About the 'instant' tanning stuff - I think I've cracked it!! I'm now using a combination of 1 part Johnson's mixed with 3 parts body lotion each day and I'm getting a nice slow, natural looking tan. I just poured some of the Johnson's stuff in to a three quarters full bottle of unscented body lotion, shook it very hard and its working fine.

Pachyderm - I walk for miles and miles each day and its really hard to stop yourself going beetroot. My best advice is a) wear white or a very pale colour - something light and loose but with long sleeves is best b) buy yourself a cheap white cap/hat to wear when you're walking - not a visor - you need something that'll protect your head and shade your eyes - it'll stop you from overheating so much and b) if you're walking for more than 15 minutes in this heat then take a bottle of water with you as well.

Sarah Ann 06-09-2006 09:42 AM

I can't see anything rude on that webpage.

You look great in your picture!

2frustrated 06-09-2006 09:45 AM

I thought about mixing the Johnson's stuff up... But I haven't been vain enough to self-tan again! My legs aren't going to be dressed up for a while anyway, so I'll just stay white!

Oh, random off toppic moan! Last summer I was wearing some dress with little flip-flops and I was walking along the road and Granny was in the car with Mum. Apparently Granny was all, "Would you look at her white legs, all glowing white. You know, you can get tan wipes now, you just have to wipe it on and you get a tan. Her legs look terribly white... See them for miles!" Or words to that effect!!! Yes, HELLO? I KNOW you can get fake tan, but can I be bothered? Er... no! Plus I like looking like a pale English rose! What a woman! I'd rather look like an English rose than a streaky tango man!

Edit: No there's nothing rude, I was just trying to make it sound exciting! Thank you very much - considering I'd just gone 2 consecutive rounds in sparring and done my grading, I think I look peachy! I definitely wasn't looking that good after my classes last night! I was standing in a pool of sweat by the end of it!

Sarah Ann 06-09-2006 10:52 AM

Same here - I did 30 mins HIIT cardio on the stationary bike this morning and I managed to hit four 10s, I staggered off the bike - had a 3 minute rest then did 20 mins of crunches/other abs exercises and then 20 mins of stretching. I was 'glowing' so much that I had to peel off my workout clothes after and my hair looked like I'd been caught out in the rain.

I'm having TWO WHOLE DAYS off from exercising (one of the reasons I went swimming yesterday). We're going over to my MIL's tomorrow which means leaving here at 8am - which means the dogs will need walking at about 6am! I'm not sure what DH has planned for Sunday - he's being mysterious - but I know its another early start.
