Put a bloomin' pound on. ARRGGGH! :(
Oh well. I did order me a new pair of jeans, which were just delivered, but they're WAY too big!YIPEEEEE! :D |
Don't get upset over a pound. You've lost 25 pounds since January. :carrot: If you'd put on 25 then you could get upset. ;)

Anyone see The Mirror (it's on the website mirror co uk) today? It's not pretty. Basically someone my weight not moving off a settee for 4 months and dying. :?: That's what they say anyway...

I know you can't believe quotes in the tabloids, but...!!!!!!!!! |
Poor woman - she must have been so depressed and her family really did just leave her to rot. Surely her family must have realised that something was very, very wrong when "She did not even get up to visit the toilet." but all they seem to think about is their own comfort and what the neighbours think!
Well, after waiting ONE AND THREE QUARTER HOURS in the doctor's waiting room ('He's running a little behind' said the receptionist) I finally got told that I've got an underactive thyroid and he's prescribed some tablets. He is SUCH an idiot though - apparently anyone with thyroid problems is entitled to free prescriptions and the doctor is supposed to fill out and sign a form for me to send off as soon as he fills in the first prescription but he didn't - but I didn't know about that until the Pharmacist told me. Bless her, she said 'can't you pop down and get it signed now?' - another hour and three quarter wait? No thank you. Perhaps next week when I've got my temper back. THEN, to make matters worse, we drove in to Doncaster to go to the cash and carry and popped in to Asda for some aubergines and grapes - we were in the store for about 10 minutes but due to heavy traffic it took us an HOUR AND A HALF to get out of the store car park! The staff were sent out to direct traffic and they just stood around drinking coffee and chatting with each other. Poor DH he has spent virtually his entire day off queuing. |
Helen (the amazing running Helen) - I've got a question for you. I want to run and I don't know where/how to start. I've had a quick squint at your journal for tips but you are sooooo prolific - have you ever thought of putting it into a book?
Back to the point - did you just start walking and then up the ante? If this isn't the place for this could you point me in the right direction to look at how you started? Ta very much |
We should have a thread, a sticky! Ask the amazing running Helen a question! :D
My Mam gets free prescriptions for umm an under or overactive thyroid :o :dizzy: it's definitely one of them. Good that you've got it diagnosed at least SA. |

Anyway, I kind of started slowly, but I already walked a lot before I started running so I didn't walk with the intention of running, I started running off the base of the fitness I already had. Does that make sense? In terms of starting, start slowly though. You will almost certainly not be able to run for more than a couple of minutes at a time at first. Even if you're fit in other ways, running takes some time to get used to, so it's best to start with some sort of intervals e.g. walk 1 minute run 1 minute. I saw one plan that was basically to go out for half an hour each time. The first time run one of those minutes, the second time two etc. By the 30th time you go out you can run 30 minutes. A more structured plan is the couch to 5k. I didn't actually do either of those formally, I just ran further and further as I got better, but the principle is the same. Run for a couple of minutes as part of a walk, then build up the running spells until you're walking for a couple of minutes as part of a walk. A bit of advice I see a lot is not to increase your running by much over 10% per week. When you're first starting off this is a bit conservative (e.g. going from 1 minute to 2 would be doubling your run!), but once you get past about the 30 - 40 minute mark it's a good idea to stick to that. I find it's far easier if you have something to train for, try to find a charity 5k like Race for Life that will have lots of walkers. It doesn't matter whether you run all of it or only part (I walked part of my first 5k and my first 10k), the important thing is getting to the end and enjoying it enough to want to do it again! You won't enjoy it if you see it as a chore or something to be endured, so focus on the nice things about running like the people who smile at you or the nice parks you can run round. The squirrels won't judge you for being slow! And neither will other runners, we all have to start somewhere! Let me know if you have any other questions... I did anoter 6.3k this morning to get to my weekly target of 20 miles. I told myself that if I got to 20 miles on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday I'd let myself have the WHOLE weekend off while I'm in Amsterdam instead of taking running stuff with me. So no exercise other than walking til Tuesday! But I'll probably do a lot of walking! And I did the great Primark raid for summer clothes. I got a load of stuff that all matches, according to my new strict regime of making sure everything co-ordinates rather than buying random stuff. All size 12, which seems to be a safe bet in pretty much every shop I try now :carrot: Even jeans! :carrot: Mum's cooking veggie again so I might just make it til the end of lent without meat too. |
Operation Veggie Mum still progressing well then!!! Your greatest achievement so far I think!
Oh days off, what a relief. I can't cope with posting once or twice a day!!! I've been flat out like a lizard drinking at work. I return 70 - 100 messages a day. 100 if they're easy and 70 if they're a nightmare. It's been good experience though. I get to shout at doctors :D I went to Pilates last night, which was great. I am getting into the whole Pilates breathing thing, and it's really helping the old asthma. Finally something seems to be working on that! I am ditching the scales for now. I am going to weigh in in six weeks. Gareth, the trainer, is paying for my 50p scale charge LOL. My new weights programme is loads better. Very leg heavy. I think he thinks my thunder thighs need some help. Nothing £5 000 and a good surgeon with a high powered hoover couldn't fix  I'm off to Nike Rockstar at 12. Wish me luck! I'm glad I still have some bottom fat, I have a feeling I might be needing it, when I fall on my derriere in front of every one!!! |
Go kykaree - WOOOOOO you rockstar you! :dancer:
I'm up - it's physically impossible for me to lie in! I woke up at 5am!!! Then 7:20.... I'm MAD! I used to sleep till 4pm if you let me! I'm batch baking cottage cheese pancakes and I'm going to take some to Cornwall, so I'm not eating junk on the 5 hour train journey  I had a great kickboxing lesson last night, we had the radio on and we were kicking to the beat! SO funny! I'm sporting some nice foot injuries now... blisters the size of the isle of wight and a nice broken/sprained/bruised metatarsel  I made it to my new gym for about half an hour too, before kickboxing (we finished work early), and it's LOVELY! I was scared of the free weights bit since I've never used the proper benches and racks or anything, I went to ask the trainer and she "wasn't trained" on that equipment, so I've booked in for a free weights induction. YAY! The treadmills are really nice and streamlined - but they don't have that thing where you can plug your headphones in for the TV sound. HUMPH! Not that I'll be going there to run! I just had to warm up a bit yesterday! :D Everyone have a great Easter and STAY AWAY FROM THE HOT CROSS BUNS! ;) (It's just the scones with clotted cream I'm going to be having trouble with! :tantrum: ) |
Are you going to be one of them scary advert women Kyk? :kickbutt:
I got up early to sign for my radiohead tickets  I knew they wouldn't come today  I'm stoopid. I don't even know if there is post today. Now I'm in the middle of six episodes of Scrubs on abc1. :moo: |
Morning!
Kyk, thats GREAT about Pilates breathing helping your asthma. What's Nike Rockstar?? Frus, Yes, you are definitely mad - 5am on a bank holiday!!! When are you going away? Veggie, I haven't had any post today either. Enjoy your Scrubs! Its a food prep day for me as well - I'm also going to be batch baking some cottage cheese pancakes - I thought I try out some different flavours and I might try a bit of other experimentation with the recipe. I made some for my brekkie this morning and sort of scattered frozen blueberries on top of the mixture as it was cooking, by the time I'd flipped the pancakes and cooked the other side the blueberries had burst - very scrummy! I got a some bargains at the cash & carry yesterday - I got 10k of chicken breasts for £20. I marinated 5k overnight in various different dry rubs and marinades and I'll be char-grilling them today (good old George Foreman) - then slice and open freeze them. I also got a HUGE amount of salmon. They were doing whole sides of fresh salmon (about 750g) for £2.50 and I got eight - I've cut them all up in 125g portions put them in marinades/dry rubs and then froze them. We also got lots of haddock (Frus's fault) and 1k of HUGE raw prawns which we had for dinner last night cooked in a tiny amount of butter with some red chilli and garlic over a HUGE salad made from all different baby green and red salad leaves (got the salad at Asda) and a wholemeal wrap! I've got leftover prawns and salad in another wrap for my lunch today - just not so much of it :( I must remember to go to the cash & carry next time there's a bank holiday - they were desperate to get rid of all the fresh fish/poultry/meat before they closed for the weekend. I did a VERY hard lower body work out this morning - I picked all the exercises which have given me the best workout in the past - but I must be getting better at it because they didn't give me anything like the intense agony I've had before. Then, after breakfast, I took the dogs out and clocked up 10.27 miles - trying to find a track which leads to the next town - but I couldn't find it. |
I've given up on Scrubs. I decided playing with fitday is more fun, I'm eating grapes just so I can put it in fitday.
Nike Rockstar, that's those scary ads with women doing strange things :p  The tag line is 'tell me I'm not an athlete'. I have 3 dogs moving in next door today. :D |
YP1
Poor poor Wigan! Heather ;-) |
I had a hot cross bun!!! So shoot me! I love 'em.
The Nike Rockstar is a choreographed dance class. It's fun!!!! It was nowhere near as horrendous as I thought it would be and I really enjoyed it. I feel well and truly worked out! I'm staying indoors, despite the gorgeous sunshine, it's the Rammie Mile today, where lots of (barely 18) pub goers troll around all the pubs getting increasingly drunk and unruly as the day goes on. I can't be doing with it. I think I deserve a nap! No post today, but they did come and get our rubbish! Not the postman though! |
