HEY ALL!!!! Thank you for a nice greeting. I have looked back at some of your progress and I hope it rubs off on me. I got my suit in today that I am wearing to get married in about 6 weeks. I ordered his and my rings...both should be in in a week. Guess you could say I've got more than my share of shopping therapy. Just wish I had more money to cushion the fall. Budget is getting really tight with the price of gas steadily heading upward around here in East Texas.
We have so many evacuees (refugees if you will) that I don't know what we are going to do around here. Our schools are already over crowded and there are no decent paying jobs. We went to one of the shelters in Nacogdoces and they told us they didn't have time to listen to us...we were offering to take in a family. She took our name and phone number and what we had to offer. If any of you know of anyone in this area, we have 5 RV hookups w/h2o and can take in a family in our home as well. We don't have much else to offer, can't help out financially. My mother in law called the Red Cross and they told her that that particular location wasn't doing anything for the evacuees at this time. I can't believe how some people have reacted towards our own people at this critical time. GOD BLESS US ALL!!!!
Anyway, I weighed in this morning and I guess I've lost some water weight by drinking SO MUCH water and green tea. I've taken off about 3 lbs...... YAY ME!!!!!
Take care and talk to you all later.

Show love to a stranger, he might be your next best friend!!!!!

Hello,
My name is Gloria and am hoping y'all can help me. Have any of you heard from Tricia since the hurricane? We were on the same support group and am trying to find out how she and her family are doing. I know she's from Mississippi and would appreciate any information you can give me.
Thank you.
Gloria

HI, I'm really concerned about our friends in Miss. too. I'm just praying that they are all ok. I wish there was some way to get in contact with them.

Gloria - you are sweet to have checked in on me. I hope you got my PM.

Wolfntat - I know exactly how you feel. Our schools were supposed to re-open today but it was postponed until Thursday so that the superintendants can meet and decide what to do with all of the displaced students entering our school systems. Like you, I am doing all I can to help our "refugees." Still, I have to admit that I am also concerned about how this will impact my own children's education. It is a terrible situation for all involved but I know we'll pull through. I've seen such an outpouring of people getting involved and making personal sacrifices to help. Now, if we could just get some gas around here! The shortage we have right now makes it very difficult to get out and about to volunteer and such - you can't drive further than a half tank will get you or you might not get back home again. Luckily, most neighborhoods have organized carpools and shelter/grocery store runs. Nobody leaves home without checking with everyone else to see if they need anything from where they are going and that helps stretch a tank of gas. I feel so petty even mentioning it but I have to say that it is all starting to get to me. I'm just so ready to get back to something that resembles our normal routine but I don't see that happening anytime soon. When the inconveniences start to wear me down I just try to remind myself that my family is safe, we have a roof over our heads, and plenty of food to eat and that is sooooo much more than what many of the evacuees here have.

I've been eating very well but my exercise is still lacking. It is just too hard to get to the gym right now. I'm managing to get out and walk and jog but I am in desperate need of getting back to weight training. I used to go every morning when they opened at 5 but I can't justify driving back and forth now. So, I'm going to sit down today with everyone's schedule and try to organize my workouts to coincide with the kids' activities. I'm a planner by nature but I have to say that micromanaging every car trip like this is making me crazy! Again, though, I know I could be in much worse shape so not a peep of a complaint from me.

Melissa - I LOVE the tops you ordered. I am in desperate need of clothes right now. The smallest size I have in my closet is a 10 but I wear an 8. I've tried to postpone any purchases until I've made it to a 6. I think I'm ALMOST there. The 8's I tried on a couple of weeks ago were a tad loose. I tried a 6 and they were too small but I was able to button them so hopefully I'll be able to hold out for a while longer. I just can't bear the thought of buying clothes that I'll only be able to wear for a few weeks. Of course, maybe that is the key to shedding these last few pounds. If I don't buy new clothes it will probably take me months to lose the weight but if I spend the money I'll probably drop 10 pounds before I have a chance to cut the tags off! LOL.

You gals have a great day!
Tricia

Tricia, you have done fantastic girl! You are a real motivation for me! Do tell, what were your stratagies to tackle the weight. What did you do that you found worked for you? And that goes for anyone who's accomplishing their goals. What is it you're doing? I'd love to hear what everyone is changing in their lives to become the healthier person they want to be.

That's great willpower Tricia! I caved last week and bought the size 8s. We got the big ax on wearing skirts with no nylons and I just decided to wear pants 95% of the time from here on out. So I needed new pants and bought the size 8s. Although I would recommend finding a good seamstress. Mine has taken down my 14s, 12s & 10s to fit nicely. I figure if I have to take down the 8s down the road I will. I'm still holding out for my fun clothes though

I lost another pound, but I have no idea how considering how we ate all weekend. DH made ribs on Sat night! But all we had with them was the corn on the cob. I really think it is those little changes that have helped me so much. We don't have salad, & potatos & corn anymore - we just choose 1 side with our main meat. Though we made burritos on Sun and they were yummy - I only had one wrap and made another one naked!

So I guess my biggest "secret" to share would be cutting out the High Fructose Corn syrup and moving to low fat or FF everything: FF cream in my coffee, LF butter, LF sour cream, etc. Other than that, I mostly never deny myself anything, I just don't eat much of it. I still have chips from time to time and little bits of chocolate, but I try not to binge and eat until I'm sick (like I used to). I wish my claim was that I exercise like a mad woman, but I don't. I walk a lot with Bella and around the hospital, but I truly believe it is 80% diet and only 20% exercise. I've went weeks without regular workouts and still dropped pounds. BTW - I HATE exercise

Thanks, Melissa! I don't really have any secrets - old fashioned calorie counting and exercising a lot more than I used to. I don't cut out any foods or worry to much about refined foods, etc. However, I've found that I have naturally gravitated towards healthier foods these days. Basically, I slightly altered our usual recipes and cook them a little differently then eat less of them. It has worked like a charm so far!

That's pretty much me, healthier choices and portions. I've also found I don't care for rich sweets as much, I'd rather have a strawberry or grapes.

Thanks Tricia for letting me know your okay. I've been in AZ. for the past month helping my mom. She has breast cancer and is not doing so well. When i finally returned home just before the hurricane hit, the first person i thought of was you and your family. I am so thankful that you and your family are safe. All those people who lost everything just makes my hart ache for them.

HI every one, Melissa what adorable kids! And another cute top!
I agree with what every one else has said about weight loss. It's a matter of changing the way you eat. I've just modified everything and changed to L/F or F/F everything. I have changed the way I cook. I am doing a lot of grilling and broiling and baking now instead of the frying everything! I buy whole wheat bread and make sure I get enough water. I have been on a million (slight exageration) diets and they don't work in the long run. This time I've decided to get real and eat healthy. And it's working well. I still have sweets occasionally. Who am I kidding, I have sweets every day. But now I just have a cookie or a fun size candy bar with my afternoon cup of tea. It's a real treat for me and curbs my cravings! And I read something wonderful today. At least for a coffee addict like myself. It's a really great antioxadent! Made my day! You ladies make yours a good one!

I love to smell coffee but only rarely do I drink it, like maybe once a year and I have to be super cold to want it.

Hey Ladies
Just popping in to see how everyone is doing, and say hello! I took a short computer break over the holiday since I work on the computer all day I think I needed the break! lol! I hope everyone is well and had a great weekend!

I went to Sara's tonight. She ran out to Sam's Wholesale while I was at work and bought a ton of meat and veggies for us to split up. I helped her split em up, gave her a check and brought home half the food for me and my sis. To eat healthy ya gotta actually have food in the house! LOL!

I also weighed when I was at Sara's. Surprisingly, I am down another 6 lbs. Shocked? I know I was! Very glad tho! I think we are doing well working as a team. We keep one another in check and I find its so much easier.

Glad to see that everyone is doing well and Kerry - those burritos sound so good! Yummy! Have a good night everyone!

Well, girls, the old lady is back from Vegas. We had a wonderful time but came home to a broken AC and the garbage disposal went belly up. SIGH! Anyway, I promised pics but made a webpage instead that everyone can look at their leisure. I am really busy right now, but I promise to pop back in soon, read all I have missed and post more.

**We got some minimal damage in Memphis from Katrina. We came home to tree branches and gunk all on our deck and there was flooding etc from a big amount of rain all at once, but may I say for those of you who have family that got caught up in this mess, our prayers are with all of you and we wish each and everyone of you the best!**

(PM me if you want the link)

Faye

Welcome home! I'm so jealous, Vegas is definitely on my list of things to do! To bad you came home to all the "real world woes". ~*~hug~*~
