Well, I'm finally on track. I have lost 4 lbs from my initial weight, and if you count that weird jump up last week, its 8lbs!
Sorry I haven't been checking in. I will at least sign in on Wednesdays to post my weight and a little update.
I have been eating Kashi Go Lean Cereal everymorning for breakfast. I measure out one cup of cereal and 1/2c skim milk. I feel like I am doing someting good for myself and it kind of sets the mood for the rest of the day.
I am also drinking my water instead of so much diet soda. I have found the the Crystal Lite to go packs really help.
As far as excercise, the boys and I have been walking around the neighborhood some. B & J ride their bikes and I push the babies in the stroller. I'm trying to encourage the entire family to excercise.
I'm so glad that I am finally getting control over this. Thanks you guys for all your support and suggestions . . . time to go change my ticker!
Hi everyone! Sorry I did not check in yesterday. I felt HORRIBLE!! I was so sick and did not have anyone to help since DH was out of town. Thankfully he got home last night about 9:30. I had a fever, felt nauseous, and ached everywhere. The girls were pretty good though. They tried to jump on me in the morning, but learned quite quickly that mommy was not feeling well. I am feeling a little better today, but not 100%. So we will see how my day goes.
I lost 3 lbs this week, but I don't know how much stock I put in that. Since, I did only eat about 600 calories yesterday. I had some saltines and some coke. My dh brought home some soft serve ice cream last night. I could only eat part of it and put the rest in the freezer.
Great job Jane!! Sounds like you are starting off well! Keep up the good work.
Well, sounds like the girls are awake. I hope to check in tonight if I am feeling ok.
well, ladies....... I gained a pound... *bigfrown*...... BUT I know why!! I'm flipping thru Fitwatch, identifying my "problems" this week..... here goes:
last Wed: 1900 cals (3 ice cream sandwiches, french fries)
last Thurs: 2076 cals (4 light cinnamon rolls)
last Fri: 1835 cals (3 ice cream sandwiches)
last Sat: 2291 cals (1 ice cream sandwich, hotwings & french fries)
last Sun: 2174 cals (donuts & sausage rolls, 2 ice cream sandwiches)
Mon: 2638 cals (4 ice cream sandwiches!!!, LARGE colorado bulldog alcoholic drink)
Tues: 2129 cals (nothing too bad yesterday, but wasn't enough to make up for all the damage already done!!)
soooooo.. rule #1) DON'T BUY ANYMORE ICE CREAM SANDWICHES.... rule #2) no "fancy" alcoholic drinks (wine only).... rule #3) when family eats out, I don't eat what they eat! (can make frozen lean meal, or eat healthy from takeout place)
Hi everyone!
I'm so glad to see so many back today.
Jane--Way to go! You are doing great. Keep it up. You will feel so much better as those pounds fly off.
Kellie--I say three pounds is three pounds. You have been doing an amazing job and I think that you probably DID lose three pounds. You've lost a bunch already, haven't you? Good job.
Shawn--One pound gain is not too bad. The important thing is that you've identified where your problem lays. That is one great thing about fitday/fitwatch. At least you KNOW why you gained instead of lost.
Pam, how are you doing? Tricia?
Well, I lost 2 pounds this week. I am happy about that. For some reason I'm not estatic, but I'm still pleased. I have now lost 28 pounds. Hooray. When I hit 30 I will reach my next goal loss (my goal was to lose 30 pounds by Mother's Day). I am going to get my hair done and go out with DH for my goal reward! Well, I'm out for now. Talk to you all later.
I know some of you said you've entered your recipes into Fitday/Fitwatch -- that seems like such a pain, yet I think I need to do it. I've just been guessing - ie when I ate THAT recipe, it was so much of this, so much of that.... whereas if I enter the real recipe, I might get more accurate figures.
Same goes for other things I've been eating -- ie, I had sausage & egg on whole wheat bread this a.m., and I'm glad I noted from the packages how much the cals/fat was, b/c when I guessed in FitWatch, it was way off! So I'm going to have be more diligent about watching lables & adjusting in Fitwatch as I enter it! ie - instead of 1 piece of bread, it was equivalent to 1.75 pieces in Fitwatch! yikes!
I haven't weighed yet but I will in a bit and post a little later.
I did want to jump in for a minute and, first of all, say congratulations to all of you who lost this week. Good Job!
Shawn, don't sweat over one pound. You are still in the very early stages of this game and you are doing exactly what you should be - figuring out what is impacting your weight losses and gains.
As far as entering recipes into fitday or fitwatch, I absolutely swear by it. It is a pain at first. BUT - once you have them in there, you never have to think about it again. Even if you just enter the things that you make on a regular basis you will save yourself a lot of time and guesswork. If you decide to do it I would suggest that you enter the serving sizes in terms or cups or weight. A couple of mine I just entered as "1" serving but when I we had the same meal a few weeks later I couldn't remember what I had determined a serving was. Uses cups or weight you can adjust the serving size each time without any trouble.
Okay, I've got one more load of laundry to fold and then I will hop on the scale. Be back soon!
Well, I did five miles on the treadmill and feel good. I think I burned about 400 calories. I have eaten about 240 today and I'm going to have lunch now. Question for you all--Does the idea of dieting (ugh, hate that word) during the holidays scare you? Dieting over Thanksgiving and Christmas seems SOOOO hard. I know that it's probably one of the most important times to watch what you eat. It's just hard because so many traditions at my house involve food, lol. It just seems like part of the tradition. Tricia, were you dieting during the last holidays? The fourth of July and stuff seems a little tricky, but not like Christmas. I will hopefully be pregnant by then, but I plan on continuing watching my calories through the pregnancy (up the calories to around 2000 every day). I know that we are about six or seven months before they happen, but I think I need a plan way in advance in order to come out successful!
I had my weigh in and I am down to exactly 161 (this was my weight on Monday too). Our last weigh in I was 166.8. Technically, that's a 5.8 loss but I don't think that is really an accurate reflection of what's been going on. First of all, 166.8 last week was a GAIN that I am pretty sure was a water fluctuation. Second, prior to that little water gain I had been on a plateau. So, I don't think I've actually lost that much this week alone. Rather, I think 161 today is just an evening out of the last few weeks. But, hey, I'll take it! I'm certainly not going to look a gift horse in the mouth!
The best part is that my body fat percentage is down to 32. When I started in January it was 42! Not bad if I do say so myself. I'm not good at it yet, but I'm making a real effort to rely more on this number than the one on the scale. Oh, and how my clothes fit too. I am at a stage of weight loss/muscle gain that the scale just isn't going to tell the whole story.
My food is in line so far today but I am resisting a snacking urge right now. Luckily, it will soon be time to pick DH up from school and it will probably pass by the time we get back. My afternoon gets a lot more hectic once all of the kids are home and I barely have a spare moment to think about stopping and getting something to eat.
Lori, we will be staying at the condo that my parent's have in Gulf Shores. They do have an exercise/weight room but, honestly, I don't plan to use it. We'll be taking our bikes and tennis raquets with us and we'll do lots of walking on the beach and swimming so I'm not going to go out of my way to do any formal exercising. It is all about relaxing and letting go of our usual routines! I've made sure that my workout sessions this week have been long and intense though. I don't think doing so will necessarily make a difference in this week's progress but it will help me avoid any guilty obsession next week while we are gone.
Shawn, I meant to ask you if you enter your food into fitwatch as you eat it or all at once at the end of the day. It may not be an option for you, but I find that entering my food as I eat it helps me keep my overall calories in check. Since I always know where I stand I can make more appropriate choices at each meal. It doesn't really take long, in fact, I usually fix my plate and then enter it all before I start to eat. Since I usually eat at the same time as the kids they don't need any immediate attention while I do it. Of course, my kids are much older - 6 month old twins have a schedule all their own as I recall! Anyway, it really helps me and I thought you might like to consider it if you don't do it already. And, by the way, I'm going to try and learn from your mistake regarding the alcoholic beverages. Except for the occasional glass of wine or beer, I very rarely drink anymore. But next week - at the beach - with NO KIDS - it might be a differnt story. I'll have to remember your words of wisdom and make sure I don't indulge to more than a couple fruity concoctions!
Hi guys! I am still here Shawn! I have been doing well the past few days. I find it much easier just to think about my goal and stuff rather than counting calories and stuff (for right now anyway). I have been "dressing up" rather than sweats and tee shirts lately, and when those shirts really "fit" me it makes me really want to do better.
My brother bought me this huge bag of lettuce from this store they call "The Junk Store" I can make salads all day off of it. I also bought dinner rolls to go with my cold cuts and dill slices that I can pop as snacks. The dinner rolls are good, because then I can eat two little sandwiches, maybe some chips or something, and it works for me!
I am so sleepy right now, and I want so badly just to curl up on the floor and go to sleep, but I think I will take the kids out to play in the wagon.
Lori, I didn't REALLY get started until right after Christmas. In fact I think it was Dec. 26. Holidays aren't that bad for me. The actual DAY I certainly eat more than I need to. But, we don't have a lot of eating that goes on around the holiday itself. So, it isn't that I have amazing willpower or anything it is just that the opportunity to splurge really only happens 1 day for each holiday. This past year I volunteered to host Christmas and Thanksgiving. That way, I got to have a decent amount of control as to what kind of food we ate and how much of it to make. One of my downfalls is leftovers. By making sure I planned to cook no more than we would eat, plus enough extra for family to take some home if they wanted, I wasn't tempted to over do it the next few days either.
Oh, and we will be leaving either Friday night or Saturday morning - depending on what time my in-laws get here on Friday.
Well...just got some bad news. My dad has just been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He is only 56. I feel so worried. I adore my dad. All I want to do is go eat. Is that a sign that I eat in bad situations? I am going out to Burger King for dinner. Sigh. Please keep my dad in your prayers.
Lori, sorry to hear about your dad. Although this sounds strange, Prostate Cancers is one of the better Cancers to have. IT has a high cure rate. I will be praying for him.
I have not done well the last three days. I took it easy, since I was finally losing, and got into my old habits (whats wrong with me?). Starting this moment, I am back on track and will hopefully not be up poundage next Wednesday.
Alice, its good to see you! How is the YMCA?
Shawn, I have over done ice cream sandwhiches this week too! We will make a pact together not to buy anymore! Deal?
Good morning ladies.
Jane--Thanks for your kind words. After research, it does seem like a good cancer to have. It is also good that they caught it now instead of waiting ten years and then dying from it. It looks like he is going to have surgery to remove his prostate. Sorry to hear that you have gone awol!!! Get rid of those sandwiches! LOL. I know what you mean, though. It is so tough sometimes! Some days I just don't want a salad...I want cheesecake!
Tonight I'm going to a party where we are going to eat pizza. I am hoping to keep my calories down around 600 until then so that I can actually EAT some, lol.
Well, I did fine yesterday. I ended up below 1300 calories so not too bad. This morning the scale registers another half pound loss from yesterday. My husband forgot to take the scale back and hide it until next Wednesday. I have weighed myself like five times today and every time it says 163.5 so I am happy with that.
The twins are at preschool and Gracie is screaming for a nap so I'm going to go exercise.
Hope to hear from you all today!!!
Unfortunately, my plan to work out really hard every day this week and keep my calories around 1200 has failed miserably. I had forgotten how much work vacations can be! Food has been fine at around 1500 but I haven't made it to the gym in 2 days. I have been very active with spring cleaning though so it could be worse.
Lori, I will keep you and your family in my thoughts. Jane is right that prostate cancer isn't the worst case scenerio. Still, it must be scary for all of you.
Back to cleaning. In case I don't get to check in again before we leave, have a successful week everyone!
Well, yesterday was really good at 1760 cals, plus I've walked every day this week. I've thought about not walking today, but it's beautiful outside, and I really have no excuse, so I may try to get out there soon....
I'm eating well today -- I'm going out with a girlfriend tonight to see Hitch (the new Will Smith movie), and need to review the menu & plan ahead so I don't do terrible. My mom came over for lunch - she had some leftovers we had, but I just had strawberries - saving cals for tonight!!
Jane, yeh -- no more ice cream sandwiches!! I have NO willpower re: them, so don't need to buy them anymore!
Lori - I hope everything ends up good with your dad. I'm sorry you're having to go thru this!
Tricia we're going to miss you! Enjoy your vacation, but hurry back!!
I wanted to ask ya'll -- will starting exercising again make my body tired? I have been exhausted all this week, and I thought maybe it's b/c I started walking again.
