Default welcome newbies

welcome, everyone. You'll love it here. Just a quick post, cause I gotta run. I knew all you ladies would understand about seeing that long lost friend back there again. Andrea I know that you will love that book, body for life. I post sometimes on the ladies who lift forum and everyone says thats a great starting off point. Most women don't know that lifting weights will burn fat and tone you faster than just cardio. I'm not worried about getting to lean, I just want some definition instead of swinging fat. One more thing they have recently come out with a body for life for women. I would look at both, but I think the first book is more through. The second just repeats the same thing over and over.

I gave myself a mini goal, I was a little afraid that if I didnt make it I would give up. But, I'm going to make it, because I dont want to give up. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Hope everyone has had a good day. We had another breakfast at work but I ate mostly fruit and a potato fritta which was only 2 points and very YUMMY!!! I just got home from taking DD to dance class. She is feeling a whole lot better and did really good tonight. They have a recital in June so they are really busy practicing. They are sooooooooo cute. Nothing cuter then 7 four year olds who don't have a clue as to what they are doing. The recital should be interesting. Their show is called the Twisted Oz and they are the blackbirds.

WI is tomorrow and I am alittle worried. I didn't go last week because my scale showed a 4lb gain (damn TOM) but I have to go tomorrow. Hopefully it will show that I lost at least 2-3lbs of that gain. A little worried though!

Have a great evening ladies.

Paige, I am so glad your daughter is well again! I bet the dance classes are adorable. I took dance from the ages of 3 to 11. It is so funny to look back at all the pictures. I was cute! haha Good for you to stay on track for breakfast! I am keeping my fingers crossed for you WI tomorrow!

Well, I walked this morning, rode my bike 2 miles, but the phone wouldn't quit ringing, so I had to quit, then off to do my running around.

Val, it must be so nice to enjoy the outdoors! I am jealous! My allergies about have me knocked on my butt. My face feels horrible. Not sinus infection horrible, just my nose hurts from blowing it so much, my eyes itch and hurt from all the rubbing. I woke up from a dead sleep again this morning sneezing! And crying! I HATE THIS! I would feel so good if only I didn't have allergies!!!
And Val, Good workout! Feels good doesn't it? You go girlie! I hope to do the yoga or at least ride my bike again tonight. I don't know. The allergy meds have me very tired.

I had a nice dinner. Enchiladas..I used my leftover chili from 2 nights ago, wrapped some up in a wheat tortilla, and sprinkled with FF shredded cheese, put it in the oven till cheese was melted...NOT BAD!

I am off to help my little girl with her reading and them put them in bed.
I will be busy tomorrow at school. The PTO is selling t-shirts for the up and coming middle schoolers. Being the secretaryof the PTO, they want me to help! Imagine that! Then I will walk and go shopping for my groceries for the catering job I have on Friday. Busy, Busy! Lots of coffee for me tomorrow!

I hope you ladies have a great evening and wonderful morning!

o2bskinny be careful with tanning. Friday I was a little pink and it went away so I went Saturday too and got totally burnt. I was afraid to go today so I am waiting until friday. I am so itchy now.. ugg...

Paige that sounds so cute. I wish I had a daughter so that I can do all that dance stuff. i am sure she will do fine. At 4 they are so cute it doesn't matter.

Well I did about 5 minutes on my cardio cruiser. My legs get really tired really fast. but I will say that I was in the yard all day. I was digging a trench for the water to run off cause my pavers are just getting covered with dirt. I am sweeping them allthe time. it stinks. I filled holes with dirt from my dog. I tried to level some of the yard out and that was not successful. Then I seeded the yard and with tons of seed and then watered and fussed with sprinklers. It was a tiring day. Then came in thehouse made dinner and cleaned up.. ugg.. I must have burned some calories.. hahah..Well talk to you ladies later on. hope all had a nice dayand hopefuly the warm weather stays..

Karyn, I will be careful tanning. I know you can easily get burnt, and I don't want to feel uncomfy. The only thing that is burnt is my lips now. And they hurt!!!!
I wish I could help you with the fruit and veggies.......I love them both. But I hate water. It is just something you have to make yourself do. I am not sure if you can make yourself want them though. Maybe one of the other ladies will have more help for you. I could live on just fruit and veggies myself though.

Well, I was gone for most of the day and have been catching up here late tonight. TOM finally arrived today, and as usual I have a whole new outlook again! Feeling GOOD, skin is clearing up and I'm positive again! Sometimes I find it slightly disturbing that half or more of my personality is just HORMONES!

I ate a bit more fat and junk today than usual (half a little bag of MnM's and half a convenience store hotdog-eww), but stayed well within my calorie range, so I guess that's okay. I was over my goal for fat intake, though, but I think that's okay from time to time. Sure don't want to get into a habit, though!

I haven't done my beloved yoga dvd for 4 days for various reasons, like accidently falling asleep when I put the baby down at night or waking up too late in the morning. Now my TOM is here and you aren't supposed to do inverted (upside-down) poses, which this dvd definitely has. Still, this afternoon on the beach, I did a couple of sun salutations, which are a series of poses that move from one to another, and include "downward facing dog", an inverted pose. It didn't seem to cause a problem. Maybe I'll do my yoga for weight loss dvd in the morning and see how it goes. OH, and by the way, when I did those sun salutations, I was able to actually jump from the "standing forward bend" to the "plank" position, instead of just stepping clumsily into it. I have much more strength in my poses than I used to have for sure! Even when I practiced yoga for awhile a couple of years ago, I couldn't do that! whoo hoo! And it was so fun to yoga on the beach with the late afternoon sun going down behind the clouds out on the horizon and the waves crashing and the sea birds flying low.

Karyn, I couldn't find that Baton Rouge link again, but you can check my previous posts for it again. Sorry, today was so busy for me and I just haven't had the time to do that myself!

How exciting that you now have your cardio cruiser! And I think it's great that you were out moving the earth around in your yard--that's a fantastic workout! And I'm all for exercise that serves more than one purpose! The best kind of exercise, to me, is the kind that is part of everyday living and getting things done. It's only modern technology and such that makes us have to find exercise to do just to keep our bodies working properly. There was a time that just our everyday lives would keep us fit! Anyway, sounds like you worked up a good sweat doing that yard work today! Good for you!

I really love fruits and vegetables, so I don't have any specific advice for you there. Just try sticking more in where you usually wouldn't and see if they start to grow on you. And try substituting a more nutritious vegetable wherever you can. Like when you make a ham or turkey sandwich, put on some raw spinach instead of iceburg lettuce and throw on some tomatoes and sprouts too and a little avocado or cucumbers. Actually a veggie sandwich with green leaf lettuce, red bell peppers, cucumbers, sprouts, tomato and a little avocado with maybe a little mayo or hummus, depending on your mood, is SO good. Try that out sometime. That's not too original, but I think you understand what I mean. I really can't think of anything right now, but I'll give it some thought for a couple of days and see if I can't think of something that might help you.

Wait! Here's a good one! The "New York Goodwich" from Fit for Life
by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond. I used to eat this all the time in the summer, because it was soooo good. 25 minutes to prepare. You need:

1 cup broccoli
1/2 cup cauliflower (optional)
2 tablespoons carrot, finely grated
2 tablespoons red cabbage, finely grated
2 tablespoons yellow squash, finely grated
1/4 cup Barbecued Onions (see below)
1 whole wheat tortilla, chapati, or pita
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
3 thin slivers dill pickle
1/2 cup of green leaf lettuce, finely shredded
1/2 cup alfalfa sprouts
2 slices of avocado
dash of salt

Prepare the vegetables

Cut broccoli into thin lengths, using only florets and upper portion of stalk. Break cauliflower into tiny florets. Place broccoli and cauliflower in vegetable steamer, covered, over boiling water for 5 minutes or until vegetables are tender when pierced with tip of shap knife. Combine carrot, cabbage, and squash, and mix thoroughly.

Barbecued Onions:

2 teaspoons safflower oil
1 small white onion, sliced
1/2 tablespoon barbecue sauce

Prepare the Barbecued Onions.

In a small skillet, heat oil. Add onion, and saute until it begins to soften. Add barecue sauce, and continue sauteing, stirring frequently, until onion is throughly wilted. Makes enough for 3 or 4 Goodwiches.

Assemble the Goodwich.

In hot dry skillet, heat tortilla or chapati, turning from one side to the other until soft but not crisp. Place on large sheet of plastic wrap. Spread tortilla with mayonnaise. Add a line of broccoli down center. Crumble cauliflower and place a lineof it on broccoli. Add a line of pickle, a line of grated vegetables, a line of Barbecued Onions. Top with lettuce, sprouts, and avocado. Sprinkle with salt. Roll tortilla tightly, crepe style, around vegetables. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap until ready to serve. Will keep for 2-3 days in the refrigerator. Cut it in half and push plastic wrap partially down, but leave one end closed to catch the drippy sauces. YUM! Serves 1.

(If using pita, heat in oven for a few minutes to soften it, and cut a sliver from top so pocket opens easily. Combine all other ingreients, mix well, and stuff into pocket.)

I'm telling you this thing is awesome! Try it out!

i'm getting a bit freaked out by my weight loss, thinking it's all water, because I'm at 201.2 this morning. i've been eating 1400-1500 cals a day but not really exercising (just light housework). i don't trust this rapid of weight loss.

it sounds llike everyone is doing so good!

in my house, neither my husband or i are big veggie eaters. we're better about fruit, but it's a pain to keep on hand, or i end up eating bananas for week, then three days of cantalope, a week of strawberries. for veggies, we're trying new recipes. we eat a lot of corn. i like spinach lasagna/manicotti - and there are light recipes out there. i do like fresh spinach salad. we're starting to shred carrots and throw them in things like fajitas. you can't taste them. think of yourself as five and trick yourself to eat healthy. though making faces with veggies won't encourage you, i'm sure. and does that even work on kids? i don't think i would have been fooled if the veggies were happy. i was horrible about veggies then, and still am.

does anyone have carpal tunnel (hands/wrists) because of infant care? just curious, because i do and i wondered if it goes away. a friend in the medical claims industry said it happens.

sprry for no caps, holding baby!!

Eli, no problem without caps. Its easier that way. Anyway, Its not that i hate veggies I just can't get motivated to eat them. They are not my cup of tea. The only veggie I can't stomach is spinach (sorry ladies) unless its in spinach dip and that has mayo and sour cream in it (not exactly healthy. haha.. I just think that veggies are blah. I guess it goes back to when I was a kid. We only had veggies at dinner time and then it really wasn't alot. I do have veggies with dinner but I need to get myself to eat them during the day. I did read an article in Eating light and it said to try sauteeing them in garlic and oil. the article says not to just nuke them which is what I do so maybe thats why they taste blah. I don't have to hold my nose tho..hahah... Oh and I do eat salads..

Red face Article

Ladies here is an article I found. It might help you.

Six Little Changes
1. Go Green. Try one new vegetable or vegetable receipe every week. Think of various ways to cook vegetables so you're not just reheating them in the microwave. Try a stir fry. for example cook vegetables with garlic and olvie oil, which is also heart healthy in small amounts

2. Cut back on the main dish. If you cut your entree in half and double up on vegetables every day for an entire year, you can lose as much as a whopping 35 pounds.

3. Try the plate method. When you fill your plate, half of it should be vegetables, "says Jennifer May, rd manager of nutrition services at DietWatch.com, A weight management Website. The other half should be divided into a servicing of startch and a serving of protein. (the latter should be about the size of a deck of cards). This style of eating will help you fill up on fiber and control your calories.

4. Dress your own salad. Restaurants typically top salad with 4 tablespoons of dressing (or as much as 300 calories) All you really need is 1 or 2 tablespoons, so ask for your dressing on the side. If you eat five saladas during the week you will save 150 calories per salad and 750 per week. If you save 150 calories per day you can lose 15 pounds in a year.

5. Add snacks. Cut back on the size of your main meals and add two small snacks. Some healthy snacks : a piece of fruit, celery with peanut butter, a container of lowfat yogurt, or three whole wheat crackers topped with reduced fat cheese.

6. Make it skim. If you use two liquid creamers, like half and half or cremora in your cofee. You adding 60 calories per cup to your daily intake. The same amount of skim milk has 5 calories so you would save 110 calories by using only skim. This may not sound like much but over a year you'll lose about five pounds if you switch to skim and whole clothing size!

This article came from the magazine cooking light. It has a lot of good receipes and suggestions. I will post them after I try them.

Wow its quiet this morning. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that I looked back in my book and I had the wrong starting weight so I changed my ticker.

So far this monring I did my cardio cruiser for 5 minutes and 3 minutes of weights. I am also counting weight watcher points instead of calories. Its just easier for me to calculate. The main thing is that we don't overeat, right? Doesn't matter whether were counting points, calories, carbs etc.... Well I am off to my moms today (which is very hard to be good there) but anyway I will do my best. I am babysitting my nephew tonight so I won't be back on until tomorrow.

I hope everyone has a great day!
