Annie - I don't know if my morning mug of black tea wakes me up or not, but it's more of a ritual for me. I also just read a blog that discussed MSG (either MSG or its many other forms seem to be in EVERYTHING!), and I have to say I never noticed if it has an effect on me (other than causing fluid retention, I suppose). I guess I'm just not all that aware of these things unless they hit me in the face. Like...too much chili sauce will have me racing to the bathroom (sorry if that's TMI), same for too much dairy. Sometimes the produce store's granny smith apples have caused my lips/mouth to be irritated. I've learned to wash them well and even peel them. Praying for your kids and the li'l guy that they'll all be feeling better soon. Sorry C. didn't have a good time fishing. Yup, too early... on the bright side - no mosquitos!
Mel - Just what you didn't need - hassles with Soc. Sec. and your HMO. What a mess, but if anyone can untangle it, it's YOU!! Hope you're doing the meditation program because it sounds like you need it. Miss you lots, but just do what you need to do to make yourself feel better.
Michelle - Ah yes, "mud season" will soon be upon us. Get the rags and towels ready!! I hope you decide on something fun and relaxing to do tomorrow night, you deserve it! Your real job and the job of job hunting are probably sucking up all your time. Another good luck re your interview, and some too!
Happy - Thanks for the links to the cabins! I like that it's near Starved Rock and other parks. I haven't checked out the reviews yet, but the photo gallery makes the setting look so gorgeous. As for taking the dog...I brought this up to bf a while back and he's of the opinion that the purpose of a getaway is partially for us to get away from the day-to-day responsibilities of dog care, lol, so he's not quite on board with taking the dog with us. Even for a quiet weekend in a cabin, we'd still be off to drive around and see sights or go out for meals (because another purpose is to not have to prepare meals, of course!), so i know I'd be feeling a bit guilty leaving doggy behind in an unfamiliar place by himself. Oh well, we'll sort it out. Step one would be getting an experienced, reliable dog walker, not the one he hired at the last minute when we took our trip to the Pacific NW in 2011. Re the lead in the movie I saw - I sure wouldn't have known if he was in that zombie movie because that's not my thing. Not sure Jack the Giant Slayer movie was my thing. The giants were kind of gross (on purpose, of course), and all the CGI...I dunno. These actors better watch out - pretty soon they won't be needed, only voices!!
Shad - Enjoy your time in Kakadu Park this weekend. Looking forward to photos! I'll have to look it up online - right about now I've been loving to look at photos of the outdoors, be it a blogger's snapshot of blossoming flowers (Vancouver, BC) or Happy's link to the photo gallery of the resort cabin setting.

My meeting this morning was the kickoff of our busy time, and of course it's overwhelming to me, and a poke in the ribs about how much I really don't care about this industry I'm in. I work for a great company, but this work just leaves me cold. But what do I expect - if I'm not willing to change, nothing will change.
Leaving a wee bit early today to go to my annual physical exam. Did I mention that when bf and I tested the bp monitor software again last weekend, it was working properly? Yay for that, but still, I've forgotten to take my bp most days this week, so there won't be much data to upload and print off for the doc.
Also, the doc's office phoned earlier in the week to confirm my appt and when they did, they said they would do fasting bloodwork, which would require an 8-hour fast. I phoned back to say nope, I would never had agreed to that - my appt's at 5:45 pm, would I really agree to fast all day???!!! I told them I had bloodwork done in October and they could use that (the results were sent to her) or if that wasn't recent enough, I'd be happy to schedule a blood draw on a Saturday morning. I suppose they relayed this message to the doc, but I haven't heard back since then, so I imagine they are okay with either option. We'll see.
Okay, I've rambled on too much. Back to work. TTFN!
Toot, I hit a wrong key and every thing disappears. I'm getting outside in the sunshine a bit later to wash the car. But now the sun has gone back behind the clouds. It's warm though, I'm loving it.

I was a nervous wreck most of the day yesterday in anticipation of the technical phone interview. By the time of the actual call, I was calmed down...that is until the interviewer started referring to technical concepts in ways I'd never heard of. I understood the concepts...just by different names. Anyway, it kind of threw me for a loop. I'm hoping to hear back from HR today whether or not I "passed" to the next step. I also got a call from a recruiter about a contract job (with possible contract to perm) in San Diego working at a Fortune 500 firm. It would be a great opportunity. And I applied for a couple other positions that would be good for me as well.
I dropped Santa off at my ex's this morning, and he'll be spending the night there since all the dogs have a grooming appointment in the morning. I'll miss Santa tonight. He's such good company. After work, I'll probably go to the gym and maybe go to the laundromat. Exciting Friday night, huh? I don't have any big plans for this weekend and no Easter plans...just relax, sort through and re-pack stuff, and send out resumes. This coming Monday would've been my 18th anniversary. I'm sad about it...but I just have to move forward, right? And that's what I'm doing. I just still am feeling a bit melancholy.
Ceejay - Hope you enjoyed your outdoor time yesterday, and that you have a nice time in Jonesboro.
Michelle - You'll feel good about getting your exercise done and the laundry out of the way tonight so you can have some nice relaxation time the rest of the weekend. Hope you passed the tech. part of the interview process! No, you can't help but be sad over the anniversary date - first one post-divorce, especially so soon after the finalization of it. But you sure are moving forward in a big way! Good for you. In the past year, you've had three different jobs, and here I am having had only three different jobs since I graduated college 26 years ago! You're making me really think about getting out of my rut!!! Soooo....you haven't mentioned the roomie lately - is everything going okay with that??

My annual physcial exam went well yesterday. The doc is happy about the weight loss. My bp levels (taken in the office, one by the nurse, another by the doc herself) were fine. The few bp readings that I had to show her were either in the normal range or strangely low - one was 84/63! But she said as long as I'm not having long bouts of dizziness (i.e., all day), I'm fine with my current bp med level. It sure would be nice to not have to take the med, so we'll see what happens during my continued weight loss journey.
Bf went with me to the doc because he wanted to stop for dinner afterwards, but we decided he should also take the opportunity to meet my doc while he was there. His doc left the practice she was in and has now set up in the city just north of downtown and it's not convenient at all. So he met my doc and liked her enough to set up his annual exam in a month's time.
Today our office closes at 3 pm, so I'll be taking an early train home. I'm also considering taking a vacation day on Monday...the admin will be back from her vacay so it shouldn't be a problem.
We don't have any plans for Easter. (Annie, I know you asked me about that a few days ago and I forgot about it til now. ) We have a dozen eggs sitting in our basement fridge that I want to boil and dye. Maybe tonight or perhaps tomorrow. I'll have to see what we have in the way of dye, but I told bf I wanted to try dyeing a couple eggs in some hot brewed hibiscus tea - the color is so gorgeous, surely it would be pretty on an egg.
It's that Happy Easter time of the year.
I am doing 100% better today.
Not going to push it though.

Lucky you, getting to leave early today...and I hope you do take a long weekend. A former co-worker used to wrap eggs up in silk ties (that she bought at rummage sales), and the pattern would transfer to the egg. I forgot the whole process, but I'm sure you could google it. They were absolutely gorgeous! If you use the hibiscus tea to dye an egg, please take a picture. As for me having 3 jobs in the past year, that's not really a good thing. I'd like to find a great position in CA where I can stay for a good long while!
Mel - I'm so glad you're feeling better! Still good on ya' for not pushing it today. Just relax and rest up for next week's trip to TJ's.
Annie - So nice that you're office is closing early too! My office is not, but since I come in so early, I leave at 3 normally. As for me, I'd say my emotions are mixed. I am happy and excited about what lies ahead for me...and at the same time a little sad/melancholy about my marriage ending. I think it's probably normal to be a little sad on this first post-divorce anniversary. A year ago, I had no idea any of this would've happened. He and I did have some really good times and we were happy...just not in the end. It's onward and upward (or more precisely westward!).

Sorry I didn't get in here to post. I didn't even realize it. Because I was trying to get through the Downton Abbey CDs, I neglected my coursework a bit. One class involves quite a bit of writing, the other involves research and a wealth of information. It's good but takes more time than I thought. I did spend yesterday almost exclusively on my schoolwork and will probably do the same today as new lessons are posted on Wednesdays and Fridays. I also got caught up with my sister and Mum yesterday on the phone. We're getting a hint of spring - weather was a bit nicer yesterday so DH and I went out for a short walk down our road. It's good to get out but you still have to navigate the snow and ice down the long driveway. Rain is moving in later today, it's going to be a mix of rain, gloom and cold for Easter and then they promise better weather towards the end of next week (always subject to change). The water is pouring through the gutters as the snow melts off the roof. That sound as well as the forest full of birds cheeping tell me spring is on the way. DH and I will have a hectic week ahead so we decided we are going to an Easter Brunch on Sunday. I'm not a big ham person, I do enjoy a sandwich occasionally but never was big on a large roast. If I have a small piece at brunch, I'm good for another 6 months.
Michelle - that's a very interesting concept about dying eggs with silk ties. All sorts of new ways to do them I see in articles. Guess they've come a long way since the days of Paas tablets and white vinegar As for the anniversaries, I'm sure there will always be a bit of melancholy associated to certain dates. That was a long relationship, not easy to let go and as you say there were good times as well as not so good so no reason to trash it or hide it under the bed. It was a point in life that has passed on to other things. I had a dreadful time in Memphis but I realize that those bad times pushed me to where I am now, which is a very good place and I would not give that up for anything so sometimes transistions, while difficult, can be good in the long run. Hope you did well with the interview. I think a phone interview is more difficult because it's hard to stall for a moment to collect your thoughts. The good thing is that they can't see you furrow your brow as to "what the heck are you talking about". Even if this does not lead to something further, be patient that the right thing will come through.
Annie - I save romance for New Years Eve God bless you on still doing baskets for the kids. When I was still in Chicago my Mom would do a smaill one for me and my sister. No matter how old we were, it was cute and always made me smile. I imagine Lil Man is big enough to start to understand the fun of an egg hunt or a basket. No family dinner this weekend?
Mel - glad you are back again, we sure did miss you. I hope things dry up, you could use a little sunshine. I'm happy you are taking things slowly, don't need any set backs. Hope Jen (or Ritchie) did some tasty shopping for you until you can get back yourself.
Laura - hibiscus tea eh? I think I might have some of that. Will have to check out the color. Good to hear that your numbers have come into a good range. Keep up the good work. Sure would be nice to get off the b/p meds. Not always possible but always a lofty goal. Hope you decided to make a long weekend of it. Glad you liked the pictures of the campsite. I mentioned a dog friendly place because I have some friends who will not kennel their dogs so they hardly ever go on a vacation.

Happy - Easter brunch is a lovely way to celebrate! I got a great laugh from your saving romance for New Years Eve! When is DH's procedure (sorry that I forgot)...my CRS (or as Shad calls it CRAFT) is getting worse. Thanks for your wise words about anniversaries, and the past moving us to where we are now. You're right...transitions can be difficult...but I believe it will all be for the better in the long run...and even in the short run. For the most part, I'm fairly happy now and am putting myself first in ways I never would have a year ago. You're right that in a phone interview, a moment to collect your thoughts can create an awkward silence. I do believe the right position is out there for me...and it will all happen in time. I just want to get out there sooner rather than later. I think you asked me if I would take a financial hit for breaking my lease early. Yes. I am essentially responsible for paying the rent through the end of the lease unless and until they can find another renter, which hopefully won't take them long. My ex is suggesting that I tell the landlords now to give them a heads up and enable them to advertise, which I guess is an option. I could say that I'll be moving by end of May, and then just move to San Diego with or without a job. Kind of scary, but I am going to be moving by August when the lease is up anyway...with or without a job. Too stressful to think about and since I don't have to make that decision today...I'm not going to. I'll be like Scarlet O'Hara. I'll think about that tomorrow. Tomorrow is another day. As to your comment to Laura, my ex and I were among those who didn't kennel our dogs due to their health issues...so we would either take the dogs with us on vacation or take separate vacations (and look how THAT turned out).

The rains have finally come, making a mess all over but at least it's not snowing. Pity the ladies who are dressing up in strappy heels for Easter services tomorrow. Going to be darn near impossible keeping the shoes clean.
Not much going on in my side of town. I am trying to get housework done because my dear grandma would rise from the grave and walk 400 miles (or would it be float???) to whack me with a dishtowel and a wooden spoon if I was to do work on Easter Sunday. DH's procedure is next week so I'm trying to get things in order for that too. Always a list of things to pack but I'm trying not to take more than I can haul myself since I'll be checking out of the hotel alone. I am looking forward to Easter Brunch tomorrow. We're eating early, I hope it will tide us over through the day as I have nothing planned for supper. Not even sure I have a light snack unless we eat pizza breads
Mel - I love your bowl of peeps. However Peeps bunnies are not as classic as yellow peeps. I noticed in one store last week they had 3 shelves (SHELVES ) of Peeps marshmallow treats in every color and shape one could imagine. I'd send you some sunshine but it disappeared yesterday and is nowhere to be found. Thank you for reminding me that I need to order season 3 of DA from the library. I think the ham steaks are a great idea, just enough for a nice meal and then no temptation on leftovers. Is Ritchie cooking?
DH and I went into town to go pick up some books from the library. We decided to stop for lunch at a local restaurant. We were at the register waiting to be seated and he said to me "You paying?" (he often forgets his wallet). Not missing a beat I turned around and said "yes... you puttin' out?". I thought the young hostess was going to bust a gut. She was red faced for a minute and then started laughing so hard she got the girl next to her laughing. "Good one" she said and winked. I didn't think teenagers would understand the term "putting out" but apparently that's still in use.
Michelle - think carefully before you jump the gun - although I know you will. If you let the landlord know you will be leaving early, will you have to get out as soon as they find someone else? I think the biggest concern I would have being in "limbo" would be the health insurance issue. You can pretty much work around anything else. I guess too you can get a feel now for how the job situation is out that way, this way if you left before you had something concrete, you'd know it wouldn't take long to get settled, or on the flip side, if you had to stay a little longer to squirrel something away in the savings, you could do that too.
Well I have been dabbling with a writing assignment I am having trouble with. I think I might have an idea so I'd better go finish it out. Later Peepettes.

I got my workout in first thing this morning, did my laundry, went to an interesting workshop. I have a phone interview in about 30 minutes. Keeping my fingers crossed that this one will go well enough to land me a job.
Happy - I got a great laugh about the "putting out" line! Too funny! And you are right...I shouldn't jump the gun...either on telling the landlord or on moving out before I have at least a contract job offer. I know there are insurance drawbacks with a contract job offer....so I'm hoping for permanent. I will get a job in the next few weeks. I can feel it. I want to be living in CA before my niece has her baby (the baby boy is due on May 22).
UPDATE: The recruiter called me early! I'm so glad I was home and relaxed and ready to go. The conversation went great. He has 2 or maybe 3 positions he wants to submit me for. I'm not just California dreamin', I'm California hoping and praying too!!
