Morning all.

Mel - I like those little pots of "lawn" too, but I'm sure I could never grow it or clip it to perfection like you'd see in those decorating mags, lol. Glad you enjoyed your perfect day yesterday. :) Hope you get up to speed at the meetings today!

Happy - Sounds like you learned a lot at your e-book seminar (in spite of the other participants, LOL). I like the idea of an e-reader and e-books, but honestly, I'm too cheap to buy books - paper or e-versions. Unless it's a reference type book, I won't buy it new. I think if students get e-versions of text books, that's an ideal application for e-readers. Me, if/when iPads or the like come down in price, that might be when I make the leap. For now, I borrow from the library and buy thrift store used books. Speaking of the library - it's great that you have such a great library system as a resource!

Shad - Hope your frustration has faded a bit by now and you've regained your temper and sense of humor!

Hellos to the rest of the Worldlies!
---
Yet another warm day today. Daffodils are blooming in our backyard. Flowering trees in the neighborhood are looking very pretty. Haven't been watching any weather reports on tv, so I don't know how many records we've broken in our area.

Pilates class was fine. Afterwards I watched the season premiere of DWTS I recorded the other day. Good group of "stars" this time, but that is just too much time to spend on a single show - two shows a week, and the one is really long. I suppose I'll catch it every once in a while, but that'll be about it. Not sure how interesting it'll be to me anyway - honestly, 3/4 of the group is already really good, so there won't be as much anticipation in terms of how much improved someone becomes. But I guess that doesn't mean they'll be that good every week...

I have another lunchtime seminar today, and then I have to leave work a wee bit early to get home and water/walk/feed doggy while bf is off at an all day work thingy. Nice that his mum will pop in to let doggy out around noonish.

Nothing else planned for tonight. Maybe I'll finally get that pillow ordered.

Nothing else going on with me, so I'll sign off now.

happy2bme 03-22-2012 11:37 AM

Good morning ladies,

Figured I'd get in here earlier today.

Mel - all my work/dress clothes are hanging in the back of the closet. I wear a pair of dress pants maybe twice a month when we go out to dinner. The day of the seminar I was wearing jeans, a rose pink t-shirt (same color as 4 other ladies sitting there) and I had an army green sweater/zip jacket for warmth. I had makeup on but just foundation and mascara so I didn't think I looked very out of place :dunno: I sort of miss dressing up but it's one of those things I just have to get used to. Funny how just about everyone I talked to said they'd love to be able to wear nothing but jeans all the time. I always thought jeans made me look fatter than I already am. You have to be tall and slim or petite and slim to look good in them in my opinion. And now way am I wearing coveralls - too easy for the bugs to crawl in. :yikes: Speaking of which - how creepy to find the roaches in the book box. Eeeeeeeek. They say that you should not get empty boxes from the grocery store because alot of them have vermin or vermin eggs in them too. I'll bet those books had been sitting in a box in the dark for a while. Yes, if I had the money to burn, I'd pick an Ipad over anything else - bigger screen, more practical uses. However they start at $500 and a decent one is about $700 - far more than the $200 Kindle. However the presenter dude said that first generation Ipads are still working fine today - ie. they did not suffer the technology obsolesence that typically affects electronics / computer based items. So it's a good investment. Just like my Ipod which is probably 8 years old and is only about 1/3 filled even thought I have over 3,000 songs on it. Still holds a battery charge and works like a champ.

I liked your good morning sunshine graphic. Very cute! Good luck at the meeting tonight. I'm sure it must be an adjustment feeling like you are not on top of everything but as one former co-worker wrote to me in an update on work "all you are missing is the aggrivation ;) " So just sit there and be a casual observer. And if that's too boring, be a heckler

Laura - I talked to my sister yesterday whose cherry tree is in full bloom (beautiful) and she said the daffodils are blooming away. She saw some ugly bug that startled her and her husband said to expect a very buggy spring and summer because the winter was so mild and didn't kill things off like it typically would have :yikes: :df::df::df: I have not watched DWTS in several seasons but DH likes the show and said this season it will be hard voting people off because they have a really good crew this time around. I just think they use the word "stars" liberally - some of these people are who???? The singing and dancing shows have lost my interest I have to admit. I was also taping Dr. Phil and looked at a few shows and asked myself why I was wasting recording space. Most of the shows are about abusive relationships (marriages) or out of control kids. I need to get my nose off the tv and computer and stick them in my gardening books. DH is nudging me to get going on this garden planning. I figure we have a few more months - even though it cooled a bit and is rainy, I don't think we are done with winter up this way quite yet unlike you guys down south

I am making slow headway on the house - easily distracted I guess. I just need to buckle down and see one task to completion. I also need to go to the grocery store but don't feel like it  Another rainy day today, maybe I can put it off until tomorrow.

Have a good one chicks, hope everyone has a better day today.

FINISHED MAKING A POT FULL OF CURRIED CHICKEN BREASTS.

DREDGED THE BREASTS IN A COMBO OF MRS. DASH TABLE BLEND & CURRY.
I USE MORE MRS DASH THAN CURRY. THEN SAUTEED THEM IN EVOO. T
HEN SET ASIDE. (I don't measure anything)

SAUTEED GREEN PEPPERS, ONIONS, MUSHROOMS & PEA PODS IN MORE EVOO.
JUST A SPLASH OF OIL.

THEN PLACE THE BREASTS BACK IN THE POT (near the bottom) WITH THE VEGGIES.
POUR A CAN OF CHUNKY PINEAPPLE OVER THE TOP.
( I drained it first & saved the juice till I saw how much i wanted).

GIVE A LITTLE STIR & COOK ANOTHER 15 MINS TO GET ALL THE FLAVORS GOING TOGETHER & MAKE
SURE THE CH. BREASTS WERE DONE.

OMG IT WAS DELICIOUS. I CAN IMAGINE THIS WILL TASTE BETTER TOMORROW AND THE CHICKEN EVEN MOISTER.

THINK I'LL SERVE IT WITH JASMINE RICE. THE KIDS CAN ADD S & P OR SOY SAUCE IF THEY WANT.
CURRY HAS A FUNNY TASTE TO ME...HAVEN'T HAD IT IN YEARS!
BUT I LOVED IT TODAY! :D

OOPS.............GOT COMPANY......CAN WE ALL SAY HELLO JOHN:wave:

diyana 03-22-2012 04:58 PM

Good afternoon ladies -

I'm working from home today instead of tomorrow as DH had an appointment with the pulmonologist this morning, and he's still not allowed to drive himself anywhere. Plus, I wanted to go to the appointment anyway to talk with the doc. DH has been able to cut way back on his pain meds, so that's really good. He's still coughing a lot, but he's not struggling to breathe as much as before.

We have an official diagnosis. All the cultures from the biopsy came back negative for fungal infections and positive for what's called "organized" pneumonia...ironic since nothing about me or DH is organized! Anyway, it's a special type of pneumonia that's resistant to antibiotics that's causing tremendous inflammation in the lungs, which is why he is congested and can't breathe well....the treatment is high doses of Prednisone...so not the performance enhancing, bulk up steroids...but rather the steroids that make you irritable, puffy, incredibly hungry and make it difficult to sleep. We go back to the doc in a month....and DH is off work for 1 more month (at least, depending on how he responds to treatment). He's stopping the antifungals now...and if he gets significantly worse, then we go back to the doc sooner than a month.

As for work, I'm trying not to stress about it...just working hard, keeping busy, and doing my best.

*****************

Shad - Speaking of working hard, you're certainly doing a lot of that! Long hours and trudging through the mud! Good idea to catch a ride with the blokes to the training room rather than get stuck in that awful mud. I hope you were able to regain your temper, sense of humor, etc.

Happy - Maples are the trees with the helicopter seed pods, and we have 3 silver maples in our backyard (along with a willow, a birch and crab tree) and 2 maples in the front (along with 2 young dogwood trees) ; along with a willow tree, a birch ! The maples are messy, but we LOVE the shade they provide in the spring/summer!

Mel - Don't overdo it at the meetings tonight. How awful about the roaches in the book box. That would freak me out too. Ugh! Kindle Fire's are supposed to be very similar to the iPad in that they can be an e-reader and also run apps, surf the web, etc. The original Kindles are essentially just e-readers. Good for you for stocking up on stuff when it's on sale. If you can keep it from getting freezer burned, it's a really good savings. So nice that you and Jen celebrated your birthdays with a yummy dinner. I hope your feet are doing better with the low sodium diet. The curry chicken sounds so yummy!!! I wish DH liked curry. He's kind of a picky eater.

Laura - DH and I are loving the warm weather! Well, he's not able to be up and out in it much because he gets too tired when he's up for awhile, and on the windy days his allergies kick in. But we're loving having the windows open and airing out the house! First the crocuses came up (first year since we've lived here that there wasn't snow on the ground when they bloomed), and now the daffodils are blooming! Heck, even our kittywillow bush has bloomed and gone to seed already, and it doesn't normally bloom until mid- to late April. I DVR'ed DWTS because of Green Bay Packer football player Donald Driver. I haven't had a chance to watch it yet though.

Ceejay - Did you go to the doctor in Jonesboro today? I hope you didn't get as much rain as predicted. We could use the rain up here since we didn't get much snow this winter - well, they did up by Happy but not here.

Time for me to sign off.

Much love and hugs,

ceejay52 03-22-2012 05:16 PM

Hello John  ake good care of Mel

Mel
Dinner sounds good. I really need to get back to the whole foods concept.
Ugh on the bed bugs. They look awful on the advertisements.

Happy
All newbies seem to be shunned any where you go. Hang in there if you liked it. I'm with you on DWTS. I fell asleep on them the other night. They do have some good "stars" this time. I really wanted to watch Gladys Knight.

Laura
The news reporters have been telling us that it's going to be a bad year for mosquitoes as well as any other bug due to the fact that we had very little winter type weather.

Michelle
Have you heard from the doctors yet?

------
Back from the doctor's office. I didn't get the cholesterol checked but did have a cbc and my b12 checked. I did get go to Olive Garden. But it is not a preference. What I ordered was good but I can make it at home.
We didn't get all the rain that was predicted and I'm glad. May do some yard work tomorrow.

ceejay52 03-22-2012 05:18 PM

Shad
Hope you have calmed down. Maybe you should take the blokes out and roll them in the mud.

Shad 03-22-2012 09:04 PM

Yeah-I am more or less calmed down now. And it wasn't my blokes doing the annoying bits - it was bloody finance. Now all day Wednesday I warned them that the training rooms were not set up as they used to be and that there were very few live data cables hooked up - ie, no network. Well hallelujah, I am informed that that L and L have it all under control and no help needed from me to get things moving. So I started my course at 8am as I always do. I am punctual, I tell my students to be punctual, I tell them that I will start without them and that they will need to catch up in their own time. They believe me now since I actually started a class and spoke to myself for 10 minutes while they milled around outside for their last cigarette.
Anyway. Finance rocks up and can't find their classroom. No because it has been taken away and is now used by the planners. They interupt my class. I have only two people. I explain that they apparently have everything under control according to the finance dept. They continue to interupt. I get mad. In the end, I moved to another area - easier to fit two into a space than nine, but I take with me the projector, all my whiteboard pens and my butchers paper. Which left them with a room, the computers, 9 data cables. They are running around like chickens with a chopped off head. Eventually I see red and excuse myself to my two and tell them to go have a smoke and a coffee and I go back to the big room. I set up a spare projector for them. I find some more pens and I state that it is as much as I can do since they couldn't organise a p*ss up in a brewery if I brought along the glasses and leave them to it. This morning, I get a phone call to ask if I have a key to the training room. Yes I do. Please bring it in so we can get back to the training. Sorry, but I am working midday to midnight. I will not be in before 11.00. There is more than one key, find another or drive out and get my key and drive back again.

As you can see the spirit of co-operation is not working among the troops. Especially not this trooper. My manager rang me last night, not knowing any of the above and started the conversation with 'F*king finance want....... Big T says I, I will not have you swearing at me like that. Oh sorry, says BigT. 'Finance wants........ I interupt again, your still swearing profane words and I will terminate the contract if the word finance is not removed from your vocabulary. So we both had a bit of a laugh, but as far as I am concerned, finance can now want for all they are worth. I am done helping them.

Anyway, I had better go find my next victim. Can't get the aircon to go in here so I need to try and figure some way of cooling it down before we melt.

Shad 03-23-2012 06:13 AM

Mel - e-readers etc. I have the Kindle 3. I enjoy it. It allows me to travel light on aeroplanes and trains etc. I no longer have to find a space to put my books either. There are a couple of downsides, but there are ways around most of them. The first one being you do not have to buy from Amazon all the time. My mate in the office tells me I can buy and download a book from various sites to my computer, I can then download it from there to the Kindle. Easy. Soon as I find out the correct addy for that I will give it a go, although I think any download will do.
There is a comparison guide on the 'net. http://ebook-reader-review.toptenreviews.com/. It puts the Kindle3 in top place. The only thing I have against it so far is that it has no back light, so you must have light to read by. You can adjust the size of the font from bloody small to absolutely huge so that isn't a problem for you. Sure some of the others do other things but you can do a few of those on the Kindle as well.
Not trying to force you to buy one, but you may find it easier to handle than a hardcover book or even a paperback and none of them are anywhere near as heavy.

Annies week away must be just about up - hope she is enjoying herself. Gee that went fast.

Ceejay - I can deal with my blokes, they are easy. It's the admin and corporate that I have trouble with.

Happy - if you wear coveralls, do you have to have one of those hats and a straw hanging out of your mouth as well? Bugs huh? well good luck with that. I know how much you like those critters.
Interesting trip to the library you had. Aaah well they ain't all edicated like you was.

Laura - Our new season of DWTS starts this week. Don't know how often I will watch as mostly I don't know who the **** the 'stars' are - although you can be sure there will be at least one sportsman - famous or otherwise - and one tv presenter from the tv channel showing the series.

Michelle - at last an answer to DH's problems. I hope he now gets the results he deserves. Organised pneumonia! Well that's a new one. Any type of pneumonia is painful, organising stuff must be bloody awful. My friend Chris was and still is occasionally on that medication for Churgs-strauss syndrome that she picked up years ago. Doesn't seem to need it as often now thank heavens. She didn't so much get irritable as irritatingly bloody stubborn about what was good for her. We practically had to rope her to the bed or chair to make her rest.
Anyway, times are hopefully that DH will feel better by the minute very soon.

Oi Patty - Where are you?????

That's just about it from me. I'm just sitting here in the workshop waiting for someone to want help. Unfortunately I don't think there will be much needed tonight. Doesn't seem like a good night and this is a new crew, still trying to get it together much less get it on the computer.

See ya

ceejay52 03-23-2012 07:09 AM

Shad
 You sure have been fighting this bunch. There is an old saying that comes to mind--You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. Maybe you should put up your props!!!!!

_____
The thunderstorm didn't make it during the night but is well on its way. I surely wanted to get outside today.
Time to get on with my day.

MELODY525 03-23-2012 07:51 AM

CEEJAY.....YOU SNUCK IN. HOPE THE BIG BOOMERS STAY AWAY FROM YOU TODAY!! HAVE A GREAT DAY

ceejay52 03-23-2012 11:00 AM

Yipee, the big boomers didn't materialize. They curved and went north. Sun is shining now. Good ole Arkansas weather. I'm getting outside in this much cooler air. Gonna mow the lawn. I do have a mask this time.

Mel
Love the baby birds graphic. I hear you on the political bs. I'm around it all the time.

There's been some error's occuring in the blog's. I've given Suzanne authority to work with my blog. I'm hoping it doesn't effect the forums too. If I'm not here the rest of the week you'll know why.

Laura705 03-23-2012 11:24 AM

Morning all. TGIF!!

Mel - Glad the meetings went quickly for you, if only for the fact that it got you away from the perfume and after-shave sooner!!! So the peeps missed you huh? Awww, doesn't that make you feel good? I like the kitties doing the Friday dance! :) And your bird nest too!

Ceejay - I talked to my mom last night and she said they've been getting a lot of rain by her too. We had a wee bit yesterday with more arriving our way today. I'm glad - we need it! But not the thunder and lightning - doggy doesn't like that at all. I liked your comment about rolling the people in mud, LOL. All the dishes that the OG shows in their tv commercials look so "over the top", I guess I prefer the simpler dishes that our mom and pop Italian restaurant serves.

Michelle - Glad to hear of a dianosis for DH and good to hear he's feeling better. I hope the prednisone starts working lickety split and that the side effects are bearable and less trouble than the pneumonia. I thought your GB guy did a really good job this week - apparently he's been a big fan all the way back to season 1 of DWTS. :)

Happy - Not into any of the doctor, judge, or talk shows, so I suppose daytime tv is not for me, LOL. Soaps seem to be disappearing, so that's that. I agree w/ your DH - get your garden planned! :D Re winter - I don't think we're going to get anymore "winter" weather, but bf isn't so sure. He's reluctant to turn on the outside water spigots at this point...so I guess it's good we're getting some rain. :rain: Re gardending - guess I better get the seeds going indoors if I want to do that. I was pretty content buying my plants last year...

Shad - Gosh, sounds like the finance guys are F-Troop all the way - another f-word for you! Don't ask me for too many details re what that is - the boss had to fill me in when she used that term to describe one of our service providers, LOL. The extent of my knowlege is that it's a 1960's tv sitcom (that I've never seen) about a bunch of inept military folks stationed at a fort out West. Anyway, sounds like you're dealing with them. Too funny about the key!!! :lol3: Re DWTS, yeh, I know maybe half of them, but not the rest. Though I do recognize that at least some of them are stars - even if I don't know them. There's a Cuban hottie on the show that's apparently a huge Latin American tv star - the audience went crazy over him.

Hellos to Annie, Mary & Patty!
--
Nothing much to report. Walked doggy after work, then watched a bunch of HGTV.

Nothing planned for the weekend except laundry, dog walks, and taxes. Don't you all be jealous, LOL.

happy2bme 03-23-2012 01:54 PM

Good morning chickee babies :flow1:

Another cloudy wet day but I hope today is the last of it. They are talking a return of the sun for the weekend - hope so. I was getting stir crazy sitting in the house so last night we went out for pizza. It was a 45 minute ride one way and the closer we got to the bar, the more foggy it got. I was a bit nervous as the deer are active, even worse trying to see them when you can't see 2 car lengths ahead of yourself. Pizza was absolutely delicious. Best I've had since I was in Chicago. Because the meat was so bad in TN I got used to a heavy veggie pizza which is a good thing. DH and I talked about taking a road trip or two this weekend to check out some ATV trails so that we are ready to ride in May when they open back up again. (Things are too soggy and easily damaged right now so trails are closed until the warmer weather.)

I tend to agree with you.r Shad about the Kindle. If I was travelling like you are, given the Internet capabilities as well as apps and books - I sure would like it alot. It is a nice unit, my only issue is at this point in my life I have to be chosey about how I spend my money and I can't justify paying $12 to $15 for a book I'll read only once or twice (if DH reads it too) when I can get most stuff from the library. My days of rampant spending are over :( I did get DH to agree to give me a weekly allowance so I can build up my mad money cache to use when I see something that catches my eye. Or for pizza outings like yesterday

I was shaking my head reading about your ordeal with the finance people and the training room. Have I told you lately how much I don't envy you? I'm glad you have a cool head and just enough of a snap in your tone to set them straight  How I would have enjoyed working on a project with you :D And no, I don't have a farmer's coveralls and hay stalk in my mouth but I have do have a netted bug outfit that will send you into a fit of giggles. If you are nice I'll let you borrow it  although I'm sure our bugs are no match for what you have to deal with.

Ceejay - I hope the sunny weather holds up for you. They say those Texas storms are starting to drift east, maybe they will skip you.

Mel - loved the new birdie graphic you have in your signature. Today cat picture looks like our Boo  (the gray and white cat). I'm glad you were able to smooze the politician - never know when that can come in handy  I'm sure you look fabulous 10 pounds down - that can make a difference for sure. I know you would understand my description of the neighbors. Not trying to poke fun, just making an observation. And I don't think education comes into play here. Apparently there are some big bucks in the area - particularly in some of these mega homes on the lake. I can tell the difference between the outdoorsy locals who were born and raised here and the transplants who at one time lived in the city. Most of those people appeared to be city dwellers - the kind who support the arts and the libraries and museums. My cousin mocks the people from Minnesota (neighboring state) who come here for the recreation aspect, demand all sorts of fancy trails and such but expect the locals to pay for such improvements. I can see his point - go into the bars during certain times of the season and all you see are the "ripped from a catalog page" people with their fancy high end sportswear sipping their cocktails. The locals on the other hand wear jeans, smile at you in the store and wave as they pass you by in the car.

Anyway I digress. Michelle - I am glad they have a diagnosis on DH. Sort of shocked that they had to do a biopsy to find pneumonia - but perhaps they had to do a biopsy to rule things out in order to make a proper diagnosis. No wonder the meds were not helping him. Bummer on the steroids - I hope he doesn't get too cranky - I'm sure you are more than aware of the side affects so you can cut him some slack. Perhaps he won't feel so grumpy if he starts to finally get some relief. I have my fingers crossed for you that things work out on the work front. :crossed: Try not to stress over it too much.

I am starving and starting to get a headache so I'd better go find something to eat. Have a good weekend ladies.

happy2bme 03-23-2012 02:04 PM

Hi Laura - guess you were posting while I was on the phone. I smiled at your mention of F-troop. Haven't thought about that tv show in a long time  Yes, it was slap stick comedy which would probably be horridly cheesy if they tried to show it now.

As for Dancing with the "stars" I think the term stars is used quite loosely now a days. They had a story about attention seeker Kim Kartrashian being a reality "star" - yeah, right. NOT.

I hardly ever turn on the tv during the day - even the weather channel is not good here :D although I do admit I am getting hooked on the Food Network...

Have you seen the trailer for the new Johnny Depp Dark Shadows movie? What do you think? It looks so campy and funny - I know you are too young to remember the actual soap opera show - I watched it like so many others after school but I don't remember it much tho you can watch some episodes on Hulu.

Anyway I am still hungry so off I go...
