Morning all.
Mel - What an embarassing story re the AMEX gift card not having the balance you expected! I think I told you about my experience not long ago w/ a Visa gift card (or "prepaid debit card" or some nonsense) that I'd earned through a marketing survey in which it had expired - boo!! I'm happy to report that the two AMEX gift cards I have do not expire, although they do have "good through" dates (well in the future) printed on them so that the stores can process them more easily. I think there was a huge backlash against expirations on gift cards several years back, and so it seems most don't have those anymore. Heck, the issuers still make a killing off them because so many go unused or become lost. Have a good shopping trip today!! Yay for your tax refund! :yay: I better get on the ball and get my taxes filed! Happy - Hope the shopping trip went well. I sure do enjoy the variety and quality of food we have here. Like you, my mother tried to replicate a favorite food of hers (egg foo yung) because the way they make it in her town is not at all the same. Not the same, but better than the local version. I'll probably try to somehow bring some to her when I visit. Just don't know how... Our DW is a Miele and I think that's German too and it's super quiet and has been a great machine for many years now. Hope yours is like that. Michelle - Sorry DH had such a bad night last night. :( I hope he has a better night tonight. So I wonder if it's the pneumonia causing all this sickness? I hope you are less sore today. Don't worry about the lawn (or personals either!), just take care of dh and YOU!! Ceejay - Mmmm, just love Italian food. I remember having lunch at the OG - soup, salad & breadsticks. :hun: Shad - Gosh those are long work days!! Definitely make those time sheets a priority!!! I like the Hippo song. :) :) === Another warm day today. Still breaking records. It's going to be very difficult if we end up going back to "normal" weather any time soon. Tree work update - the maple tree in our backyard went the way of the oak in front - completely removed. Somehow it doesn't surprise me because bf so wanted that thing gone and hearing from the landscape guy that it wasn't up to snuff and needed treatments or removal was all he needed. I will now expect complete and total silence about any other major work to be done to the landscaping and will not tolerate any complaints about leaf raking. Poor doggy, day 3 of all this racket is today. I hope they finally finish all this work. I dont' know how they made any money on this job... Pilates class was fine. Such a far cry from my Wed. night instructor!! That's about it for me. Toodles. |
Hi all,
Quick post for me - I forgot that I signed up at the library for a free e-book seminar today and I am totally behind :yikes: Mel - loved your spring chickens  been a while since I heard that phrase. Happy Spring to everyone! of course with the weather we've been having, it seems like spring came a while back. Shad - what's this about having to stay late for classes not budgeted? It amazes me how with darn near every implementation they always "forget / ignore" the training that is so necessary  And you must suffer the long days (and I imagine lack of attention from the students staying just as late) Laura - do you have any trees left? Is the oak the one that produces those dreaded "helicopter" seed pods? And I would agree with you regarding the food - you have the greatest choice of restaurants and grocery stores in all the greater city area. Michelle - poor DH is one very very sick puppy. I hope he got a good night's rest and so did you. His illness makes bronchitis almost a walk in the park not to make light of anything but bronchitis and asthma attacks are about the worst I can personally relate to of lung troubles so I can't imagine how badly the poor guy is feeling. :( And it seems hard to fight it too. Sending prayers your way every night. Ceejay - I don't know who makes the Olive Garden commercials but without fail, every single one I've ever seen has made me want to run over there and order whatever their latest special is. :hungry: :T No worries now, I think the closest Olive Garden is in Duluth an hour and a half away  I hope Annie is not affected by the weather down by the Gulf coast. She so deserves a nice vacation. Hellos to Patty and Mary  I'm off to get ready for the library. Oops better charge up the Kindle first... |
It's a gorgeous Spring day here in the South and I'm stuck inside. The radar is showing some rain in parts of the state.
Nothing else to report. Happy The good thing about OG is that the nearest one by me is in Jonesboro. The e-book seminar sounds interestint. Is it like a book club? Mel Love the "spring chickens". Laura Better that a sick tree is cut than to have it land on someone's roof or power line in the future. Will you replant any tree's, shrubs in the future? Hello's to Shad, Mary and Patty. I'll try to get back later. The internet at work is coming and going today. Why, I don't know. |

I TRIED THIS ONCE BEFORE BUT I THINK I REALLY NEED TO STICK TO IT NOW. IT'S JUST SO HARD TO BREAK HABITS!!! |
Afternoon all,
Back in the office again. There was supposed to be torrential rain all night and all day. Well they were right about the torrential on my way to the mine this morning. Ended up leaving the car at the Admin office and cadging a lift with one of the mine boys out to the training room. The purple people eater that I am driving is only a few inches off the ground and was having problems with potholes. It would never survive in the mud out here. Fortunately the rain appears to have stopped for the time being. Hopefully it will mean that the creeks stay down and I can get back to the motel tonight. Last night driving home in the rain and the dark, a little creature about mid cat size but looking like a rat with a pointy nose and long skinny tail ran out in front of the car. I did hit it, but it wasn't a big thud and I certainly didn't run over it so I hope it is okay. I checked out google today and think it might have been a bandicoot which is unfortunately on the endangered list. I really hope I didn't do it any harm. It wasn't there when I got out to look for it so maybe it did get away. Mel - if the spring chickens graphic is a picture of us, that must be Annie on the left since it is so tall and maybe Laura on the right since she is not short either. Don't know which of the rest of us is the one in the middle. Kindles are great. They don't have all the functionality of the i-Pad but are less than half the cost. You can buy from Amazon, but a friend is going to show me how to download books from my computer to the Kindle which he says will be cheaper and easier to use. I still get a bit confused with the Kindle but mostly it is real simple. Yes I managed to read the cartoon legend - well actually I copied it, put it on a word page and expanded it. It was easy then. Oh and while I think of it, I have sent you an envelope - large one. Darn US Postal system are now charging people to send you mail from overseas. The tax was more than the envelope and its contents was worth. Laura - you might expect, but will you get??? Never seems to work that way for me. Happy - I came up here to work from 12pm to 12am to help out the guys in the field. Now I am landed with two more training classes which I had to prepare, and run in two days. I think they will expect me to do some more as well. So I am not over with the workshop boys, instead I am printing doco, thinking up excuses, trying to instill knowledge into heads that have already had the knowledge stuck in there once before, but which came unstuck and needed reprogramming. I refuse to work more than 12 hour days anymore, and since it takes me nearly an hour to get out here and another one to get back, then I'm doing 14 hours again. Ceejay, the radar is showing big black spots all over the Central Highlands and coalfields. I only hope that they are wrong AGAIN I guess it is time to go and rouse up a few of the inmates and get cracking on dealing with the day to day problems. These will be plant maintenance problems at least. This morning my brain has been busy explaining purchasing and inventory data and explaining the ins and outs of Material Masters, requisitions, approval limits and shopping trolleys to men. Still they seemed happy at the end of it, so I won't complain. Back later |

SHAD....I FOUND YOUR BANDICOOT AND HE IS FINE! BUT ALL KIDDING ASIDE....THAT MUST HAVE BEEN A SHOCK. SILLY ANIMALS DO KEEP RUNNING OUT IN FRONT OF MOTOR VEHICLES. DON'T THEY KNOW HUMANS OWN THE ROADS NOW? REMINDS ME OF MYSELF WHEN I AM NOT PAYING ATTENTION ON MY RIDES. ONLY IN MY CASE I AM THE BANDICOOT!:yikes: HOPE YOUR AREA DRIES OUT A BIT BUT THEN DROUGHTS ARE A PAIN WITH FIRES. MAYBE YOU CAN TAKE A BLOKE TO THE MOTEL....I MEAN GET A RIDE BACK TO THE MOTEL:belly: I COULDN'T FIND ANY CHICKS IN A CHAIR....JUST 3 FAT ONES:rofl: HAVE A GREAT MORNING!:sunny: :cofdate; HAPPY WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY EVERYONE. JEN AND I SCHEDULED A LIE IN AND THEN A TOTAL REST DAY. BOTH OF US WERE TUCKERED OUT THIS MORNING. MOSTLY SINUS PROBLEMS AND LUGGING GROCERIES. WE MISS WILLY. HE'S NOT THE BUS DRIVER FOR FOOD SHOPPING ANYMORE. IT GOT CHANGED TO THIS OTHER DING BAT!:dizzy: ANYWAY....GOTTA GO WITH THE FLOW. LOTS OF TV TODAY AND I MADE DINNER ALREADY. A TURKEY MEATLOAF, GRAVY & PRE-MASHED TATERS. THEY CAN NUKE THEIR OWN VEGGIES.:hun: HUNGRY JUST SMELLING IT. :D HAVE A SUPER DUPER DAY:encore: |
Mel
Thanks for googling the bandicoot. Have never seen those before. The rest day sounds good. Wish I could get one of those soon. Shad Good for you in opting to park the vehicle and catch a ride with one of the other guys. That's all we'd need is you stuck in the mud up to your knees. Be sure and wear the boots. ----- The rain is getting closer. Debating on going to Jonesboro dr tomorrow. I do want to keep an eye on the cholesterol hdl and see if the different dosage is working better for the thyroid and to see if taking the b12 orally is doing it's job. We're supposed to get between 2-5 inches. We are ready water logged. Guess I'll play the wait and see game. Had to prioritize last night to get things done before 10 p.m. but I did it. |
Hey everybody.
Happy – How was the e-book seminar? Hope you learned a lot. We still have a very large oak tree in the back yard, and we also have an ash tree in front on our parkway. Oak trees have acorns. It was the maple that had the helicopter thingies. Won’t miss those at all. Even though we eventually bought gutter covers, the helicopters would still accumulate in the valleys of our roof and need to be removed. Ceejay – We had a nice day here yesterday and I was stuck inside all day too. I had a lunchtime seminar and didn’t get outside at lunch. Boo. But now my allergies are kicking in due to all the stuff that’s blossoming and blooming. My sinuses are fine thanks to my daily allergy med, but my eyes have been watering – and the wind sure doesn’t help. Re planting new landscaping…in the front where we removed some shrubs from the side, we will need to seed for grass. Over the past couple years we replaced some shrubs directly in front of the house (that we’d killed) with very small shrubs (to save money). Now that the shrubs will get more sun, I’d like to see how they grow and how colorful they will get. (When they are in the shade, the coloring is muted.) I’m sure bf has other ideas, but I’d like to wait. Be careful if you decide to go to the doc – that’s a lot of rain being forecast! Mel – The tree guys finally finished yesterday at around 7-ish, so we’re all happy we’ll have quiet again, and doggy is happy that he gets his yard back!! Glad your cupboards are stocked now! With the weather being warm and it not cooling off much at night lately, it’s been tempting to turn on the AC, but we’ve managed okay with the ceiling fan. Shad – I hope you’ve been able to commute safely with all the rain out there, and it would be nice if the weathermen were wrong about more being on the way. Maybe the bandicoot got away unharmed! They might not be endangered if they’d just stay away from cars, LOL. Hellos to Michelle, Annie, Mary & Patty!! == So glad the tree guys are done!!! But now there’s a whole lot (more) of bare dirt to do something with. Not where the trees came out – they ground the stumps and then spread soil and grass seed there. It’s where the bushes were removed, and the strip of land right next to it where grass didn’t grow because the bushes shaded it too much. So we need to work on seeding that. There’s a bit of a slope in that spot, so when it rains, some soil always ends up on the sidewalk. Have to get some grass growing there pronto. Might have been smart to keep some of the sawdust the tree guys produced to cover the seed! Didn’t do much of anything last night except take doggy for a walk. I had over 10,000 steps yesterday. My friend gave me the website where she bought her buckwheat pillows, so I’ll order a pillow for myself soon. I now have another thing to buy – I broke my sunglasses over the weekend and need to replace them. I guess that was a blessing because I really didn’t like them much. :D This time I’ll hopefully get a pair that fits into a protective case so they don’t get damaged being crammed into my purse (which is how the last pair met their end)! I started this post this morning and then got interrupted, so I better get it posted now before it happens again. Toodles. :flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1: :flow1::flow1::flow1: |
Hi everyone -
Not much new...DH is the same...hopefully we'll learn more at the appointment with the pulmonologist tomorrow. Work isn't going great...lots of crap rolling down hill my way. Suffice to say...I need to keep my ressie updated. As if I didn't have enough stress going on with DH's health...now I've got the possibility of having to look for a new job looming. I heard a great quote yesterday..."Sometimes technology gives you a hand...other times it just gives you the finger!" I think life in general is pretty much giving me the finger right now. Love and hugs to all, |
Michelle - Hoping the pulmonologist can tell you what's going on, and more importantly, how to get dh on the road back to health!!
Sorry about the trouble at work. It doesn't sound good if a job hunt is in the offing. Timing couldn't be worse either. Double stress. :( I do like that quote though...and it does seem that way for you lately. Hang in there girl. |
Michelle
Sending good vibes to both you and dh. A  couldn't help. Laura Looks like there's going to be some yard work in the near future. |
AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH
I am off down the river to wallow in mud. It's got to be better than trying to reason with some of the adults I am working with. Why can't the finance team actually listen to instructions, observations and measures of concern and concede that sometimes some others have some knowledge of what we are working with. Must have something to do with those glass walled offices overlooking the Opera House. AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH Back later when I have regained the following: My temper My logic My sense of humour My everything else that goes to make life better. |
Hi ladies,
I'm not sure how the day got away from me, but it certainly did. Shad - I certainly hope we do not lose you in a mud bog. Fully understand your frustration. I don't think the big boys talk to each other in the best of times, much less on a big ticket implementation like this. Makes one wonder how business runs in the first place. I do hope you have found your sanity and humour and have figured out a way to save them from themselves. I'd fix you a drink if I could... and poor bandicoot. I'm sure those accidents can't be avoided out that way. Michelle - you poor girl!   and more :grouphug: You have been under soooo much stress lately and now this. I'm sure it must be beyond frustrating for DH with these doctors. I really truly sincerely hope they can find a successful course of treatment for him starting tomorrow. And I am very very sorry to hear about the workfront for you. I really hope it doesn't come down to leaving. About the only consolation I can think of is that sometimes circumstances come together to make us do something that we might not have even considered prior to this. And sometimes it's darn black before we can see the light. Hang in there girl, will be sending lots of good thoughts your way. My heart goes out to you. The e-book seminar. It was good - put on by a librarian from up north. He really knew his stuff. Gave us some good info. There were 14 people in the room besides me. I was the only one who said hello and they all ignored me. I took a shower with Irish Spring before I came to the seminar and brushed my teeth so I know I did not smell bad. I was by far the youngest person in the room (besides the presenter) by at least 10 - 12 years. We were lined up at 2 tables sitting sideways facing the front of the room. At the front of my table were 4 ladies who for most of the seminar talked quite loudly among themselves. Next to me was a gentleman who must have weighted well over 450 pounds. I was wondering how that flimsy seat was holding him up as I felt downright svelte for a change. Next to him was his wife who had a stink eye. I could not look at her twice because I am immature. Across the row at the other table was an older man. He was sitting behind and facing the back of what I assumed was his wife. At one point he sneezed loud and wet, didn't make any attempt to stiffle his sneeze or cover it up and apparently sneezed all over her hair. I later noticed both of his socks had gigantic worn out holes in them at the back of the foot (where you'd typically get a blister if you wore new shoes). These are my new peeps folks... As for the Kindle. Due to our new lifestyle I look at expenditures in a different light. Hubby bought me the Kindle because I had been toying with the idea at Christmas. I am very impressed with our library system and the network of libraries we have access to within the greater area. I might have to wait for a book but they have a ton of stuff to pick from. The presenter guy said Wisconsin ranks 3rd in library systems in all the 50 states and agreed we have a really nice local library here. Given that, I am hard pressed to purchase books anymore. If I do I will get one from the library and if I like it, will look on half dot com - a discount reseller. I have done this with a few gardening books I liked. As for the Kindle - it speaks to the instant gratification factor in today's world. People who love Harry Potter for instance, no longer have to go wait in line on a cold evening to get the next installment at midnight. They can advance purchase it, it becomes instantly available as a download. Spiffy, eh? While they tout lots of free ebooks those are mostly the out of copyright stuff - Mark Twain and the Agatha Christie mysteries. The library consortium has ebooks to lend but they have only so many copies and for newer releases with everyone having eReaders in the form of Iphones, Kindles, Nooks and such - there is often a long waiting list - could be months before you get a copy and then you have 1 to 3 weeks to read it. Which isn't a problem if you have one book at a time but if 3 come in at once, you'd better get a seat. If I was Laura and took the train to work like I used to, giving me an hour's ride each way, I would find this more practical. It's definitely easier to read on the Kindle than my iTouch. Certain games and most eMagazines are too difficult to read easily on the Kindle. At least for me. So I am becoming aware of the generational differences. It's nice, I will keep it but I can't see myself buying all that much on it, except when we travel. And that's my 2 cent review. Oh and publishers set the price of the electronic version of a book so they are frequently only discounted a few dollars off what the hardbound version would be. Kindle has a users lending library but you can only borrow one title a month. There are some $2.99 titles but you have to be careful as some people are writing what amounts to a mini story of 17 pages and charging 3 dollars for a copy, pricing them as outrageous as comic books. Bummer on the lost sunglasses Laura. Good idea to have a hard case. Hopefully they were not prescription. Sounds like you have some yardwork to do. Hope the seed takes and the birds don't decide to pick it off for their newly hatched chicks. Glad you got a referall for the buckwheat pillow. You will have to give us a review once you get yours. Ceejay - hope you don't get any break out the boats kind of rain. Don't the heavy rains sometimes give you troubles at the plant too? Mel - dinner sounded delicious - did you save me a plate? Are you back to regular eating now - I mean no dietary restrictions like before? How are your lungs doing? Sorry that Willy go reassigned for bus duty. He helped you shop too, didn't he? Why do they have to always go and take something that was working and go and break it??? I'm falling asleep at the wheel here, better get off to bed. Good night all. |
