Hi chicks. I have made turnip fries. They are yum.

Officially not getting any labor floor position. I am a little disappointed but really delighted to be able to stay with my munchkins.

Ironincally enough I think I am about the lose the part time job I currently have. There is a department emergency meeting tomorrow at 7am. That generally and historically preceedes the closing of a major unit-- first the labor floor at one site and I know there are layoffs and intents to close the clinic where I mostly work. Recession drama, huh. Well, I'll roll....

I need to start posting in some accountability thread. Eating getting a little out of hand.

next day...
edit... did not get laid off today. rumor mills are grinding like crazy. real and true layoffs are happening all around me. aaaaahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

I plan an OP day today. Who's in?

Mrs Snark 05-28-2009 02:48 PM

I'm glad you dodged layoffs!

I'm OP, yippee!

I finally bought turnips today. Do you make turnip fries the same way as regular potato fries? I was thinking of roasting them with some carrots, onions, etc.

Morning girls :)

Mondays are just . I am so tired from lack of sleep. I stayed up till almost 1 am and woke up way too early. Let's just hope it's an easy day today. Not much going on my side. I do plan to do another 5k end of June - Women's Classic 5K (it's for a good cause) and possibly another one in July. Then I will stop. Running outside is putting too much pressure on my right foot so tready running for me for a bit.

Lucy, I am very happy you were not laid off. I hope things have calmed down at your work :crossed:. BTW my 5k was on Saturday. It went better than I thought. I finished it in 36 mins per hubby (he finished his run earlier than I did). I don't have the official time yet.

Billie, how were the turnip fries?

Mrs Snark 06-01-2009 08:49 AM

Anjuli -- You rocked that 5k, so exciting! It's nice to have races on the calendar to look forward to. Very motivating to stay on plan, isn't it?

I took all of last week off running to try and recuperate my hip injury. I did 3.16 miles this morning and my hip still has pain. I'm really bummed. I'm going to try every other day for around 3 miles for a while and see if it gets better. I'll cycle on the in between days.

Thanks Jo :) . A definite yes to the motivation factor. It was a good thing I signed up. I needed it after the slump I'd been feeling.

Sorry about the hip injury . I hope you feel better soon. I hate it when injuries interfere with your lifestyle. So not fair.

The turnip fries were gross. I'll see if I can find something else to try them in for my second try.

You should all be proud I had mushrooms on my pizza again over the weekend. :)

Mrs Snark 06-03-2009 06:39 AM

OK, I was about to buy turnips this round to try them, maybe I should rethink!

pintobean 06-03-2009 05:57 PM

Sorry Billie, they didn't come out good.

I did buy couple turnips today to try them out as fries. I have some spices in mind that I might use to make turnip fries. I'll let you all know once I do.

zinkemomx2 06-05-2009 07:18 PM

I almost bought another package of turnips today. I figure I better find a recipe to put them into first.

I just finished my first 5k of the year. I have a base time of 49 minutes to improve upon.

zinkemomx2 06-14-2009 10:51 AM

My new food for today is asparagus. My only experience with it was when I was really young and my mom heated up the can stuff. I'll report back.

Running is going Awesome! I just took another 1:30 off my 5k time this morning. :)

DH even went out and ran two days in a row. BIG mistake for a couch potato. His first day he did one mile nonstop and still felt okay. The next day he went out and did two miles of intervals with me. He complained for the next 36 hours about how bad his legs hurt. Silly boy.

Food has been so-so. DH has put on a few pounds in the last couple of months and I am pretty determined to get under his weight. He said he is at 210 now which is about the heaviest he has ever been. He prefers to be around 190. That means I have to lose between 22-42 pounds. I CAN do it.

Mrs Snark 06-14-2009 11:59 AM

You definitely CAN do it, Billie! You are rocking the running!

I love asparagus, nom nom nom!

Today I am finally cooking up the kale into kale chips, to eat while watching game 5 of NBA finals tonight. I also have a head of cabbage I want to make into a vinegar-style Mexican coleslaw. But you know, we'll see.

I've got midterms coming up and have been absorbed to preparing for the tests.

zinkemomx2 06-14-2009 01:35 PM

Midterms already? Wow!

Asparagus is NASTY. That is all.

Mrs Snark 06-14-2009 02:56 PM

Summer semester is compressed to 11 weeks, and it freaking goes by FAST when you're carrying 15 credit hours.

I can't believe you didn't adore asparagus. Shocked, I say, shocked.

zinkemomx2 06-14-2009 05:24 PM

Yuck, I say, yuck.

Wonder what I can try next?
