  • We just got in from a 30 minute walk. I had to go to get the glucose levels down before bed. I really did NOT want to though. Just so you all know. I was having a totally lazy day. I did 30 minutes of water jogging, but it was not good timing and I did not see a good drop in glucose, so the walk was essential. I just finished making Tom's smoothies for tomorrow and he is busy finishing up his salmon salad. I am feeling pretty tired. We ate late again. I really need to get better about planning meals and not having something thrown together at the last minute. We had fried chicken tonight from Mrs. Winners. I made broccoli. I did not eat any biscuits either, but had too much chicken. ( a breast, a thigh and a wing) I tried to give all the crunchy parts to Tom but was not too angelic about it. Tomorrow, I have to have dinner much earlier. I probably ought to plan out a week's dinners and have a game plan. I have to admit that lots of planning is foreign to me, and this managing for the diabetes is getting kind of old right now.

Its WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY: My wonderful thing is that I have not missed a day of exercise in two weeks! That is seven days a week I have gotten in SOME form of exercise! Remarkable for an old couch potato like me!

THUNDER: We do have Payless Shoes around here...I will check them out! Thanks!

ANN: Am I reading correctly, that you have rheumatoid arthritis? So does Solly... I thought I had juvenile RA, but was re-diagnosed about 15 years ago with Lupus.

SOLLY: You have to build up so you don't burn your feet. The first few times I use the treadmill barefooted I get blisters on the balls of my feet. I am sorry you are having trouble with your tootsies. Be careful!

THIN: I will definitely be praying for Sean. I have sat in waiting rooms twice while Tom had nasal surgery, twice for Laura when she had surgery on her eyes, and once for Ruth when she had her tonsils out. I won't count the three times they had wisdom teeth out. It is hard to let your kid go under the knife...I will be praying all goes well. Let me know if there is anything we can do. What video game are you looking for? I have two super geeks here, one who works at a geek game store, and they may have some ideas of where to find it.

SEF: Where are you? Don't be a stranger!

TALITHA: Any ideas as to why Jake was waking up like that? Poor thing... Good for you on the water aerobics. You need to come have lunch and teach me some. I hope you feel better soon.

I hope I did not miss anyone. It was totally unintentional if I did....

    Sweet dreams!

  • Monet, yes I have RA. I was diagnosed January of 2005 but I had a few symptoms leading up to it for a few months, things like ridged fingernails, teeth becoming translucent, hair changing texture and color, things like that. I had no idea at the time that those were symptoms of this autoimmune disease. I hope you are doing well with your Lupus. From what I've learned, we're not that far apart in the disease world.

Thin, I'm sorry, I know I've missed it despite my looking but why is your son being operated on? Is he feeling as ok as he can with it? Make sure YOU are resting well leading up to it so you can handle it better. Me? I always lose sleep days in advance then when I'm most needed, I'm dizzy tired.
  • Good morning! I was surprised to see I had forgotten to take my meds yesterday morning! So no wonder I was tired! I had not taken my thyroid or bp pills! Duh! I took them this morning, so I hope I see an improvement in energy over yesterday. I am such a ditz!

Not much on the slate for today. I want to clean some and plan some. I am supposed to be writing policy for kitchen use and weddings for the church, so I am going to work on that today. I need to get it done and to the diaconate and the staff for review.

I am going to go get another cup of espresso and will return later!
  • Ann (and others)- Sean has had migraines since he was seven years old and we never could figure out why. We did the vision tests, looked at trigger foods, and even went to Scottish Rite for sinus x-rays, but nothing stood out as a reason. Well last Spring he started having them so bad that he would throw up so hard he was busting blood vessels in his eyes! That was it for me, so we switched to a new pediatrician who sent us to a new neurologist. He couldn't find a reason either, but put him on Topamax daily and imitrex and darvocet as needed. When we started, he was having 12-15 headaches in a six week period. We got them down to a better number and lesser severity, but not completely gone. The pediatrician also sent him for allergy testing and voila~ He has some major allergies going on! So we started shots in February and the headaches have plummeted! They did a ct scan of his head and found scar tissue almost blocking the sinuses, a deviated septum, etc. So, we're taking care of these things endoscopically. He also will have his adenoids removed and his Turbinates (?) enlarged. They say we will have a totally different kid afterwards. He sleeps and eats with his mouth open as he cannot breathe otherwise. The neurologist is so sure that this is the answer, that we have an appointment in two weeks to start weaning him off the meds, so it's all good! I'm just nervous and will be glad when it's over!

    Sorry for the novel!
  • Good morning ladies.

Thought I would get on here early today. Made it to the gym last night, but got real shakey while we were there. Never felt right the rest of the night. I don't think I ate enough yesterday. I had a lean cuisine meal for lunch and they are small. We always work out before dinner so I guess maybe my blood sugar was low or something.

Skipped the this morning. My blister on my foot is killing me plus I slept right to the alarm.

Thin, You are so right, sending a child into surgery is very scary. But they have to tell you the worse. Sending many prayers your way for a safe and successful surgery and recover too.

Talitha, are you eating bananas? They might help those cramps. The tea is Crystal Light. Which I normally don't like CL, but this was wonderful.

Ann, sorry to hear about your dog. Hope he is better today. They are just like kids. I have had RA for probably 10 years. It is pretty much under control other than my feet. Chemo didn't help it any and now my nueropathies are worse. What meds do you take for it?

Monet, no wonder you were tired if you forgot your meds. Great job on the exercising. I do good to get 4 days a week in. I'm so proud of you.

Got to run, have a great day.
  • Well...my legs are totally whipped. Yesterday and today I did major gardening. First, I had to clean out the roots and weeds and grass that had grown into my dirt in my flowerbeds. What a task!! But I DO love my Eagle Claw. Gardeners laughed at me when I bought it, but I just love it...like a hand-held, hand-operated mini rototiller. BUT, I got just over three flats of impatiens in, plus some dianthus and then went around behind the barn and planted four tomato plants...only THIS year I was smart and got some of those round wire things for the plants to grow around...AND I only got four plants and placed them far apart from each other...and nothing but tomatoes, either. Last year was a learning year for me

Anyhow...I'm glad I got the plants in when I did because today it is totally pouring outside and that is great for my freshly planted items. Today I clean the house because tomorrow I'm babysitting two kids...the girl is named Jennifer and is in Kyle's preschool class and I'm also babysitting her little brother, who is just under TWO!! Yikes!! I'm just going to have to deploy the baby gates and keep him out of trouble. He's a bit of a handful, but cute as a button. But the mom is going with their older sister on a school field trip to Boldt Castle, so I'll have them most of the school day.

And... my baby graduated from preschool last night. Well, I'm so sad that my baby is growing up, I'm pretty glad to put the drama of this preschool class behind us. So, now summer vacation and then....kindergarden... ... Shelley's still got two weeks, and then she'll be joining Summer Marching Band and will be in all the parades over summer. That will be very good for her. I can't wait for French Festival, where the parade goes right by our house...I'll be bawling like a baby with my little girl in the marching band and marching right by our house. I guess I just have to get over it...my kids are growing up.

Replies in a little bit. I have to go rotate laundry...
  • I went to Home Depot and got mini blinds for the one large window in the living room. It has never had any covering, and the sun pours in there in the afternoon, making the room very hot. These are not heavy blinds- room darkening may have been better- but they were a lot less than I expected, and will at least help. I wanted to get new ones for the other windows so they all matched, but the Scottish genes my husband inherited were rearing their frugal heads, so he said no. I will go back and get them later.

I am exhausted, and I am not sure why. My guess is I am not sleeping well enough at night, and getting up too early. Tom woke me this morning and I really wish he would just let me sleep. I did get my walk in though, which was helpful.

I will be back after a catnap. I am expecting a pool repair guy this afternoon, so I need to stay put. We need a flange replaced, as well as the liner re-attached in a few places. Hopefully, the guy Tom called is competent, and reasonable.

  • Quick drive by! We went shopping this morning and picked up fresh ground flour and agave for bread for summer sandwich lunches , salsa for dh , and some frozen lemonade for Sean next week They were individual tubes and I thought it might help after his surgery. We also got some stuff for breakfasts and lunches while we are out. We had to go by the dr office again today to get our allergy shots, insurance won't pay for you to get the shot and see the doctor in the same day!
  • THIN: Let me guess...you went to Harry's! Did I tell you they are opening a new one at 141 and State Bridge? It is a good bit closer to me. Is that closer for you? It is supposed to open early fall. The building is done, but it looks like they are not done with the inside.

The pool guy came today. He fixed the flange, and can fix the rest of the stuff and his price was excellent. Yay! He will come back next week and complete the work.

I have a killer headache. I need to go finish dinner, I hear Tom coming in from his jog....

  • Not alot of time to post..it's been so busy here at work. I really blew it big time this weekend. Went out of town and went on an all weekend eating binge. I was a whopping 175 on Monday morning!!!!!!!!!!! I've been back OP and getting in a workout daily, drinking lots of water, etc..This morning it was 168-169. Better, but still about 10#'s higher than I was a year ago. I'll just take it one day at a time and 1 pound at a time, lol. Here's my menu for the day:

    Pre-bf: orange
BF: 3 small fresh(from our chickens)eggs with 1 tsp olive oil and 1 sf yogurt
Snack: small apple with 1 spoon Smucker's PB
Lunch: Lean Cusine(legal) and 1 sf yogurt
Supper: will be deer steak, salad, and 1 sweet potato with some splenda, cinnamon, and Smart Balance butter

Well, it's almost closing time so I gotta go! Nite!.
  • Hi everyone,
I'm at my DS's now. She went back to the hospital this evening, and I stayed here to walk the dog and put away the groceries. Things are not as bad as they were. My BIL seems to be doing much better physically and can even walk now with a walker. But that da** cancer is affecting his brain and he acts weird. The dr. thinks he will recover somewhat from that, but only God knows for sure what will happen. Our schedule is to go to the hospital in the morning about 9:30-10:00 after having breakfast and walking the dog and taking care of any business that needs to be done. At the hospital till about noon when we take a break to get lunch and let the dog out. Then back to the hospital to stay with my BiL until about 6, when we leave to get some dinner and to let the dog go out again. Then back to the hospital until 9-10 p.m. It is exhausting, but even more so for my DS. It must be hard to see her husband act weird. She is suffering from exhaustion, depression, anger, sadness, fear, etc. etc. I feel pretty helpless, but still am glad I am here. I probably will be getting home on June 11 as I have two appts. that week, one for getting my braces tightened. Then I may come back up, depending on what has happened. We are hoping that my BIL will be out of the hospital before I leave for home. I will try to check in again, but not sure when. Hope everyone is doing OK.
  • Yes, we hit Harry's then BJ's. Tomorrow I still have to go to Kroger (sorry BOB!) for odds and ends. Then we will be set to enjoy the weekend and be ready for Monday.
  • **BREAD IS DANGEROUS !!!**

    Research on bread indicates that:

    1. More than 98 percent of convicted felons are bread users.

    2. Fully HALF of all children who grow up in bread-consuming households score below average on standardized tests.

    3. In the 18th century, when virtually all bread was baked in the home, the average life expectancy was less than 50 years; infant mortality rates were unacceptably high; many women died in childbirth; and diseases such as typhoid, yellow fever, and influenza ravaged whole nations.

    4. More than 90 percent of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread.

    5. Bread is made from a substance called "dough." It has been proven that as little as one pound of dough can be used to suffocate a mouse. The average American eats more bread than that in one month!

    6. Primitive tribal societies that have no bread exhibit a low incidence of cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease, and osteoporosis.

    7. Bread has been proven to be addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water to eat begged for bread after as little as two days.

    8. Bread is often a "gateway" food item, leading the user to "harder" items such as butter, jelly, peanut butter, and even cold cuts.

    9. Bread has been proven to absorb water. Since the human body is more than 90 percent water, it follows that eating bread could lead to your body being taken over by this absorptive food product, turning you into a soggy, gooey bread-pudding person.

    10. Newborn babies can choke on bread.

    11. Bread is baked at temperatures as high as 400 degrees Fahrenheit! That kind of heat can kill an adult in less than one minute.

    12. Most American bread eaters are utterly unable to distinguish between significant scientific fact and meaningless statistical babbling.

In light of these frightening statistics, it has been proposed that the following bread restrictions be made:

    1. No sale of bread to minors.

    2. A nationwide "Just Say No To Toast" campaign, complete celebrity TV spots and bumper stickers.

    3. A 300 percent federal tax on all bread to pay for all the societal ills we might associate with bread.

    4. No animal or human images, nor any primary colors (which may appeal to children) may be used to promote bread usage.

    5. The establishment of "Bread-free" zones around schools.
  • Hey, guys! Just checking in for the day. Had to be at work before 8:30 and will work until 6:30- so a long one today. I didn't have time to get a workout in today, so I need to do one in the morning and then on Sunday. I'm at 167 this A.M., down 8 in 4 days. Alot of that was fluid but I'll take it. Talitha- I read your post yesterday about what you ate. Had to laugh...when I was pregnant with Ashley I ate waaayyyy too many fried chicken sandwiches from Wendy's, snickers, and fruity pebbles. It's getting busy in here so I'll post my menu and have to go.

Bf(at 6:30)- 1 pk NSA heart healthy oatmeal with strawberries and 1 tbsp walnuts
Snack- probably will be an apple with PB
Lunch- legal Lean Cuisine and sf yogurt
Supper- not sure yet since I'm not cooking. Either a loaded salad from Subway or a legal dish from Lapinata(Mexican).

I plan on staying OP this weekend(REALLY!!,LOL!). I've been so super tired these past couple weeks until yesterday. I actually feel normal again. It has to be the way I was eating and now that my sugar levels are back to normal then I feel back to normal. So I would like to keep my energy up by continuing to eat OP. It's been so long since I've been OP for more than a couple of days. Well, you guys have a wonderful Sugarbustin' weekend if I don't check back in!
  • Hi Ladies,

It's almost lunch time, so this will be quick. I am starving.

I made some banana muffins last night (my bananas were getting too ripe to eat) with ww flour and they turned out great. It was a nice change for breakfast.

We have a graduation party tomorrow. This is my best friend's son and it will be a great party. I have to really watch what I eat. I'm tired of the scale being up 10 pounds every Monday.

We have exercised (walked or gym) everyday except Monday and will probably get 1 or 2 walks in this weekend.

Tech, Preschool graduation, before you know it, it will be high school. Those years fly by so quickly. You flowers sound lovely.

Monet, glad the pool was expensive to repair. Good job getting that walk in.

Heart, put that weekend behind you and start again. I'm in the same boat with you. My goal is to stay OP this weekend too. I am tired of the scale being up 10 pounds every Monday. I know most of it is fluid, but it still affects you and your clothes are tighter. It will be hard, we have a great graduation party to attend. I will have to watch my portions and drinks.

Gator, you are not helpless. You won't even know what a help just having you there with her to listen and help bear her emotions. Sending prayers for all of you.

    Have a great weekend everyone.
