  • Well, we had a busy weekend. Rachel and I went shoppng Saturday, then she went to spend the night with a friend. Yesterday, we picked her up and went to the hospital to visit a niece that has a new baby. Then by Wal-mart and down to my in laws for a quick dip in their pool. It was a little chilly for me though, so I didn't last long. Maybe it will be warmer today, we 're going to cook out. Sean is trying to get in the pool as much as possible since he will be unable to for a "whole week" while he recovers next week.

Ann- What part of Nebraska are you from? My Dad grew up there, he went to school with Johnny Carson, though Johnny was a few years older. Dad's best freind growing up was Don Stewart of Guiding Light fame. He still has a piece of pencil lead in his back from some trouble they got into!~

Hope everyone has a great day! Get out and enjoy it!!
  • TW225, I'm south of Omaha. There are a surprising number of famous personalities and actors from this state. Marlon Brando is also from Omaha, Marg Helgenberger is from somewhere in the state, don't remember where and of course, Henry Fonda was born and raised in the area.

    So, Monday is weigh in?
    Today I weigh 180, that's a 3 pound loss!

    Ann
  • Ann--Welcome. I want to lose about the same amount as you, about 55 pounds. I'm starting in the mid 170's and my goal is 120. I'm certainly older than you, in my 60's. Did you post on the bio board.

Thanks, Monet, for starting the board this week. Today I have 9200 steps so far, and probably will reach my 10,000 goal. My DH and I took a two mile walk this morning. It has been scorching here, and it was hot when we walked, ab out 9 a.m.

    Recipe: Crockpot cassoulet.
Put 1 cut-up fryer, about 4 pounds, in a crockpot. Add 1 chopped onion, 2 chopped garlic cloves, 2 bay leaves, 3 T. parsley, 1/2 tsp. salt and 1/2 tsp pepper. Top with 2 19 oz. cans cannelli beans. Top that with 1 pound smoked or polish sausage, such as Keilbasa, cut into 1/2 inch rounds. Add 1/4 cup white wine. Cook on low for 6 hours.
Eat the chicken, enjoy the broth, have some sausage, and be careful on the amount of beans. Great for fiber, and healthful, but they add some starch to this dish. It is good with a fresh tossed green salad.
My friend doctors up the recipe by adding cooked chopped bacon and browning the chicken beforehand. She also adds one 10-oz. pkg. of spinach during the last hour of cooking. I've never tried it with the spinach.

Happy memorial day to everyone. For anyone with a husband or son in the military, I thank you for the sacrifices that you and they have made to keep us free. As we all know, freedom is not free. It is costly, but definitely worth it. In honor of our military heroes, I dedicate the following quote. Again, I thank any of our military families on this board.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight; nothing he cares about more than his own personal safety; is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." John Stewart Mill
  • Just a fly by. We had a young couple from church come out and swim and eat lunch with us. I grilled steaks and made salad with the fresh spinach out of the garden. We may go to their house for "Spaghetti Night" tonight. They have it every Monday...just show up and eat spaghetti and visit. It is often pretty crowded and lots of fun.

I water jogged for an hour this afternoon. I love it! Its so effortless and yet, I can tell it is strengthening muscles, PLUS, it does wonders for my glucose levels.

Gotta go get stuff done for tonight....

  • Just checking in...this was Canada weekend...kinda tired...mowed the lawn when we got home and bought four flats of impatiens and will plant them tomorrow. For now, the tub is filling up. Will chat tomorrow!!

  • I may be off the board for a bit. My BIL has had a recurrence of his lymphoma and I am planning on going up to be with my DS. Not sure when exactly I am leaving.
  • GATOR: I will be praying for you and your sister and brother in law. Keep us posted if you can. Do you still have my cell phone number? If so, give me a call if you can and let me know how you are doing if you are gone for very long. We will miss you, but I am so glad you can go and help your sister.
  • Hello,

I'm feeling miserable this morning. My eyes are about swollen shut. My stomache has been back to the good old morning sickness. I really need to make it to water aerobics, but I have so much to do!!!

Eating was a NIGHTMARE this weekend. I'm so ashamed. Doughnuts, cherry pie, root beer floats... no wonder my belly is a mess!!!! I could kick my own butt!

Jake got a fever of 102 over the weekend. No other symptoms of anything. Just a fever and lethargic for 24 hours. Then back to his happy self. Poor little guy

My goal is to make water aerobics twice this week, just because my schedule is so crazy. I don't think I'll have time to make it more, assuming I have ANY energy left after all of the things I have to do. I HATE having to waste one morning a week on OB appointments. I'm on a countdown here! and all I go in for is "Congrats, you're still pregnant"
  • Good morning ladies,

I hope I can make it here more now. This golf outing has me running ragged.
Hope everyone had a great long weekend. Our was so busy and yesterday we went to a friend's pool. The only way to stay cool. It was fun, but way too many margaritas. Eating has been so-so.

Gator, sending prayers for your BIL and DS. I know what they are going through. It is wonderful that you can go and be with her.

Talitha, sounds like you are haning in there. Not much more to go.

Thin, sounds like you had a busy weekend too.

Monet, glad you are enjoying the pool and it is helping so much. Spaghetti night sounds like fun. I have been craving Italian food.

    Have a great day.
  • Oops!

    Forgot to Welcome Ann.

Ann, welcome to our board. This is a great group. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Tech, What are you moving plans?
  • I was grazing last weeks board and I am so happy to see Sef is back. We have been worried about you through Katrina. Hey don't feel bad, we are all in the same boat. Glad to have you back. Now stay put.

Bob, what a nice surprise and treat for the weekend. Hope you had a wonderful time with those babies.
  • Gator: Hugs and prayers for you and your family. I really hope your mom pulls her head out of the sand and decides to help out. (ps...it IS your mom that is being bull-headed, right? I hate when I get my stories mixed up)

Talitha: I hear ya with the OB appointments. I remember the last few weeks with Kyle...the OB I went to was always, ALWAYS about an hour behind...even if you had the first appointment, you could count on not getting out till about noon. I'd sit and wait for 45 mins to an hour and then sit and wait in the exam room for another half hour and then they'd come in and measure my stomach with a tape measure, peer up there and say, "Okay...see you next week!" And then there was the glorious day with Shelley when they said, "You're three cms dialated!!" Woohoo Could be anytime, then, right? One week goes by..."You're three cms dialated!!" Okay...one week later still..."You're three cms dialated!!" Big deal!! So, that day, just as I had thought I was never, ever going to go into labor, my water broke and Shelley was born early the next day. But those last weeks of appointments are a real pain...I agree!

Ann: I'm not from Nebraska (don't know if I've even actually been there, to be honest...)...but I DO live around the corner from Viggo Mortensen's father and his mother lives up the road. He doesn't get out much when he's here, but apparently, he's been staying with his father a lot lately and there have been many Viggo sightings in the last few years. We live in the 1000 Islands in Northern New York on the Canadian border. I'm not exactly sure what I would do if I actually had a Viggo sighting...but I think I can guarantee I'd make an idiot out of myself.

Thin: Sounds like you have a lovely weekend with Rachel. Shelley is gone nearly every weekend, staying over at someone's house. She has a pack of four that she mills around with and one of them almost always asks her over for the night. It's cute...it's nice to see them having a life of their own... even though I hate to go to bed and see her bedroom empty.

Well, it was Memorial Day weekend...which means one thing in our house...our anniversary and time for the kids to stay at gramma's house so mom and dad can escape the country and...well...what happens in Canada, stays in Canada. So, we were watching the Sabres game (GO SABRES!!) last week and saw a commercial for an awesome Chinese Buffet. I said, "THAT's were we're going this weekend!!" So, I ate about 35 pee-n-eat shrimps, crab legs, fruit and then I became unhinged and got lemon chicken, green beans and other things...then I noticed the chocolate fountain!! Downhill from there in a bad way. BUT,I'm back on track today...for BF I had one sausage, some cantaloupe, strawberries and grapes. NO bread or grains of any sort. Then later on I had an apple. For lunch I'll probably have some ham and maybe a salad.

Well, chicks, I have four flats of impatiens to plant, and some tomatoes and other things. Have to get to work!! Talk to you later on!!
  • Solly:

One more thing...jobs. Well, Derek was offered a job with Noritsu...at the same pay as Konica...only problem is that when he interviewed, they asked if he'd be willing to relocate to the Rochester area and his answer basically told them that if he had to he would, but he'd prefer staying put. So, the woman he talked to that told him he had the job is in Buena Park, California and said the job is in Upstate New York...which, those of you who know New York, saying "Upstate" is just a little bit vague, to say the very least. So, he's still not sure if the the job offer is contingent on us moving to Rochester.

Meanwhile, I went to JCPenney's to talk to the salon manager and asked if it's possible to work in the salon on Saturday's only until either Derek goes on unemployment or (assuming he'll be seemlessly going to NOritsu...) when Kyle goes to kindergarden this fall. I have to say...I worked in the Penney's Salon for 10 years before quitting to become a secretary and I'm just a little more than a little excited about going back to home-base, so to speak, and working in a Penney's Salon again. Granted, I worked at the Penney's in Rochester when I was 18-28 years old, but it's still a Penney's salon and I'm soooo looking forward to it. I've just sent the Salon Manager an e-mail, telling her that I'm ready for an official interview and ready to start as soon as she'll have me. I LOVE doing hair, but had to stop because I was sooo allergic to the chemicals...I was on prednisone for the infections I had...but when I went to college and then to work in an office all week, I started doing hair one day a week and my hands were fine. I'm hoping to work on Saturdays, then add a day or two a week and see how it goes. I'm so psyched!!

Also...Derek and I are looking at new cars for me...well, new to ME, at least. We were looking at a 2001 Nissan pathfinder yesterday, but they were closed for the holiday and he's going to go talk to them today about it. My minivan has been a living nightmare ever since we got it in 2001. I went to get it inspected Friday and they failed it because it has a hole in the oilpan and needs something somewhere to pass and it's going to cost us $300. And there has been something wrong with the friggen thing since we had the body control module replace a few years back and the battery keeps getting drained. After a few hundred (more than a few, actually) dollars spent on more than one mechanic...including the Dodge dealer...they all concluded they didnt' have a clue what was causing it, so one mechanic (the nice one) suggested to Derek to put a kill switch in the van, to basically shut off all power to the van whether I'm just stopping in a parking lot at the grocery store or parking it in the driveway for a few days. It's worked pretty good, but then the inspection didn't pass because the kill switch also shuts off the computer they do the inspection from. So, it's been a real challenge with thei van and after this last inspection, I'm all for trading it in for something more reliable. Wish me luck!! Here's a link to the pathfinder I want!!

Okay...like...the impatiens are getting impatient. Gotta run!!
