It's THAT day--UGH!

Good afternoon all! I've decided to take a personal day and just putter. I'm not going into the outside world if I can help it because there are just too mnay red hearts floating around out there!!!!!!

Melf--Fortunatly it has just been a little over a year since my last "annual." So as soon as the new policy kicks in I'll schedule another one--my last smasher visit was last March, so I'm i good shape on that one. This insurance business is really been a pain. There is going to be a gap, so this afternoon I've got to buy a short term policy to cover me for two weeks.

Zanne--Well, now I think the message has gone out and all the scales in the world are out to get me! They just don't cooperate anymore. I'm thinking I may have to plan some "large-scale" action to scare them back into submission!

Mel--I swear that there are gravitational forces at work that we just don't understand. Imeans whatelse can explain it except that there has been ashift in the gravitational pull and PRESTO! we weigh five pounds more. I tell you the universe is out to get us!

Jackie--You know I really dislike BK--but when I'm sitting int he office and they start cooking, I have to remind myself that while it may smell good--it doesn't taste all that goos.

Sol--Glad to hear that the surgery went well and that you a getting a "leg up" on your recovery! Tell Vince to take good care of you or we'll all come get him!

Monet--I hope your DS gets everything worked out. Perhaps once his former employer knows that they won't get away with cheating him, they cough up the cash. Sometimes they try stuff just cause they think people won't go to the trouble to go to the labor board! Good luck!

Missy--Um, your new work name "Fruit at work" sounds like what happens when I eat too many grapes!

BOB--I'm going to have to make the hormone decision in the next dew years. Let me know how this stuff works. I'll be extra careful because my mother's breast cancer was hormone receptive. I hear that black cohash helps with hot flashes--have you ever tried that? I haven't, but I might when they get ad enough to really bother me.

Mary--So sorry to hear about your fall! I hope you are feeling better this morning and that you mend quickly.

Gracious--The letter from your husband sounds sweet. You will treasure that far more than flowers or (heaven forbid!) candy.

Monet--Um, if you eat that entire box of SF chocolate you won't gain weight--trust me. In fact your name will also be "fruit at work!"

Kim--Yeah we can sing up a storm--literally! With me in the group it will sound a lot like a thunder storm (and everyone listening will pray for lightening to strike)! The ball is for the Heart Association, so it is for a good cause--that's what I have to keep telling myself.

Happy birthday to Gator and Jackie!!!! I hope y'all have a great day!

OK, must survive rest of day.

Susan

HAPPY CHD AWARENESS DAY!!

Not only is it Valentine's Day but it has also been declared Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day by several states. As you celebrate Valentine's Day, please take a moment to remember the thousands of children that will, like Boogie, be diagnosed with a congenital heart defect this year. Some CHD facts are: CHD's are the #1 birth defect and the #1 cause of birth related infant deaths. 1 baby in 100 are born with a CHD yet there is very little public awareness of the more than 35 CHD's known. According to the United Network of Organ Sharing, in 1998 there were 707 children age 17 and under listed for heart transplant. only 265 of those children received donor hearts. That's only 37% of the children in need. Okay, I've done my blurb.

BOB- Sweet Home Alabama, Bourne Identity, and My big fat greek wedding are great. I haven't seen the others yet.

heartmom 02-14-2003 03:03 PM

I wasn't going to post this pic-because it's so grim- but this is Boogie after his 1st heart surgery and I will post another pic of how he is today. Without the funding and research that has been available, he would not be with us today. Unfortunately, there really isn't that much funding available to CHD research. If you donate to American Heart Assoc- it goes to adult heart disease. The more people that are aware of this, the better because those statistics can change.

heartmom 02-14-2003 03:12 PM

Well, it wouldn't let me upload the pic- because it's been posted before. But if you want to see Boogie now(for those of you who haven't,lol) just go to his webpage at http://www.babiesonline.com/babies/j/josephboogie

The Quilter 02-14-2003 04:13 PM

Friday Afternoon

Hello Everybody!!!

Well, I've been pretty busy most of the day. I have almost all the laundry done and amd folding now. Whoopeee!!! It finally started to rain here, and I'm hoping it doesn't start to freeze.

BOB----Well, I hope Cathy doesn't get the bad weather. Hey, I just thought of something . . . when you come up to visit, you can also see me and JACKK since she's in L'ville too. Oh, I would love to see little Jay. We could go eat at that same restaurant. Yum!!! Haven't heard you mention a trip north yet and wondered if that's going to be possible anytime soon.

ZANNE---Aren't you the smarty pants??? Getting on the board and talking to us to run off that chocolate craving. AWESOME!!!! Way to go!!! With that kind of heads-up behavior you are sure to get to your goal. And way to give it all the cold shoulder at the grocery store! That's so cool. Sometimes I need to pick it up and look at the label. Usually that label can help me snap out of it. Good going! Well, that's the pits about your headset breaking. I found a store that has one so I can replace this broken one. It takes all night to charge the battery, so I want to get a working one soon and very soon. I want to use it as I wash my dishes. I really don't talk on the phone that much, but when I do I can't stand to be sitting around. It will also work when I'm making my jewelry. Hey, many years ago I had a nervous stomach that bothered me a lot. I think it was just all in my head, but anyways, I spent a lot of time eating tums and mylanta. I got a bottle of something that was like cola syrup from my pharmacist. I would pour a little of it over ice and it would settle my belly. I wonder what was in it. That might do the trick.

TRANQ----Thanks for the greeting. It's always good to hear from you. What's on schedule for the weekend? Anything good? How are you and DS feeling?

FILLISE---Glad to hear that you gave yourself a puttering day. I love those kinds of days. Believe me, I cannot sing either. So we'd have multiple thunder. Did Miss Belle putter with you today?

HEART---Thank you so much for your post. You really touched me and snapped me into reality as to what is really important in life. God bless you and your family and little Boogie. He's a wonder and a miracle and so beautiful.

Okay, Oprah's chef is making roasted tomato soup and it looks delish. Time to fold the undies.

Kim

Solly 02-14-2003 04:25 PM

We have a wedding to go to tonight. A dear friend's son. It's not a good situation, the girls is preg and the mother insisted they get married. My friend didn't want them to just for the baby. Hope if works out. Her parents are very controling and pushy. Oh well, a love a party especially since it's a fancy shindig.
Going to see the comedian/hypnotist tomorrow night. That was a ball last yar so I'm expecting a good laugh. No big plans for Sunday. Probably will go out to eat since DD will be home from college.

Quilter, Hope you and Paul have a sweet day today. You should make him a card. That would be better than a store bought one anyway. Good idea with you and your friend listing your food intake. With all these "buddies" you will surely keep on the straight and narrow and see good results quickly. I did the interval training during the fall. I jogged every few minutes during my walk. I felt like it gave me a boost. We are only getting rain here today. Freezing sleet tomorrow night though. Good idea to stay home and workout. I can't find a good cordless phone that's worth a C**p that doesn't cost an arm and leg. Enjoy your day off and have a great weekend. Loved 1-900 bit. ROTFL

Bob, I want 73 degrees, It is supposed to be 55 here next week. Survivor is going to be a long one. Sort of degrading if you ask me.

Zanne, good for you substituting carrots for chocolate. Stay strong. You can do it. Don't worry, they'll be no cake for me.

Tranquil, Have a great weekend. It is crazy here too. Yeah for the weekends.

Country, HVD to you and yours too. Have a great weekend too.

Fillise, Thanks for the BD wishes. Have fun at the ball. THe day is almost over you can come out soon.

Heartmom, Happy VD day to you and a special CHD day to Boogie. And as I've said before, he is a precious miracle.

Have a great weekend and s sweet day today.

Jackie

Melf 02-14-2003 04:54 PM

Thanks everyone for all the well wishes! I am hurting pretty bad today, but not in the same way as yesterday. I went to see my chiropractor & spent an hour with him, so my back is feeling better than this morning. Guess I twisted when I went down causing the back to act up. My hands are pretty swollen & typing is slow, but at least it's better than having a broken hand :)

Happy Valentines to all you sweet ladies. I hope you all have a sugar-free day!

Solshine, So glad to hear that all went well with your orthoscopic surgery, now relax & take care of yourself!

Tranquil, What a nice surprise to get a night out at Outback! What was the occasion? Was it just because you are so sweet?

agape3737 Had not had a chance to welcome you to the board yet. So glad you have joined us. And so very happy to hear that your angiocath went well yesterday! Hopefully they did not find blockages:?:

Gracious, Your *gift* sounds really special. Those are the best kinds of gifts, well thought out & from the heart!

Monet, Your Christmas letter sounds very sweet! So glad to hear that things are going to work out for your ds. Could tell you were not thrilled about the idea of him possible having to move back home & I could definitely relate having recently had my dd & her 3 boys live with us for 3 months!

Jack-K It wasn't the wind that caused the fall, just the limestone in the drive & my clumsy feet. Hey, that is a good point about the starches/sweets causing the acne. I can believe that. That also explains why I have a certain area that breaks out on my chin when I misbehave!

QUILTER/Kim, Girl, I  reading your posts, even those that are not address to me. You have such a flare for writing! I almost lost it when I read the bit you wrote to Gracious & told her to "kick that stinkin' thinkin' about giving up to the curb." That is exactly the attitude & determination I see in you & I know that you will get this weight under control again! Are you still looking for the Valentine card you dh can't find? That would be a riot if you found it & gave it to him. LOL Thanks for your prayers & good wishes as well as making me  And thanks for posting that site on Interval Training. Will finish reading it in a bit, but very interesting! Will give that a try when I can get back out there.

Zanne Good for you for passing up that chocolate! Pickles may not be as good, but thay are definetly better for you!

FILLISE, Good for you for treating yourself to a day off. Hope you feel better soon, spiritually! I remember how it was to be single around holidays & it was not always pleasant. ;)

BOB, Your weekend line up looks good. I want to see Big Fat Greek Wedding too! May just have to go by the video store when I go get the boys at daycare afterwhile.

Heartmom, HAPPY CHD AWARENESS DAY to you & Boogie!! I hope he's doing ok. I know how this can tramatically affect a family. One of my 4 sisters was born with a CHD, had surgery when she was 7 which extended her life to the age of 16. I was with her when she died. That was 34 years ago. Her problem was not detected for a long time, even though we knew something was wrong. We were too poor in those days & with 9 kids to feed my parents could not afford health care. Alot has changed since then in the medical field & I know that the prognosis for children born with the same kind of problem she had back in the 50's & early 60's has so much better chance for a normal life now. I pray that this will be the case with your Boogie!

Well I've got to run! Got to pick up the boys at Daycare. Will check back in later.

Melf 02-14-2003 04:58 PM

Hey BOB, thanks for the e-card... no problem here to stay out of the candy...dh came home with a half dozen red roses & he's gone now to pick up each a grilled shrimp salad for our supper. There's a really good caujn restaraunt here in town that does a great take out salad with the grilled shrimp, onions & mushrooms. Then it's a pain pill & bed for me!

Mel 02-14-2003 08:50 PM

Friday at last

Were there 15 days in this week or was it just me?
I was doing great on eating this week until dh came home with brie and pate and red wine- all technically legal, but sure to pack on a pound or 2! He's been really good at not trying to sabotage me, so I feel bad ignoring him.
But I had a killer workout this morning (back and biceps) and my back is still burning, so I'm going to use that as an excuse to indulge, then get back on track tomorrow morning. I'll probably feel so dreadful from drinking and eating fatty cheese that I won't want to do that again for a while.

Melf- That fall sounds horrible! I hope it's not too painful. Abrasions always seem to hurt the most.

Sol - healing vibes to you too!

Monet- did you have to do any Valentines cakes? My neighbor came over in a panic late this afternoon to get me to make chocolate ribbons- the ruffly kind- for her. I haven't made any in 2 years, but she'd really botched it so mine looked pretty good comparatively. Managed to keep my fingers outta them!

It's supposed to snow here big time tonite, then again Sunday. UGH! I keep looking on travel sites to see if I can go anywhere warm for very little $$. Ha! Flights to Toronto are cheap now....
