Good morning!

Good morning all. I hope you are all having a super day so far.

Kim....thank you so much for your encouraging post this morning. I never journaled at the beginning and then I did at the first of the year. My eating really is mostly okay..I think it's being inside and not moving that is killing me. You are such a blessing to me. Thank you again for taking the time to write and lift me up this morning.

Yellowrose..I would love to be able to walk with you. We would get to talking and the time would just fly. I'm praying your surgery goes well and you mend quickly.

Monet...your daughter would love it. So far in dart we've shot whitetail...elk and bear. I don't know what next week will bring. I did poorly on the bear because I wasn't sure of the kill zone. It's all computerized. We won't win but it's fun to get out there with my hubby. Plus it's good exercise...we pull 30 shots a piece.

Jack-k...thank you. You are such an encouragement to me. I hate feeling this way and am having a hard time shaking it. Your kind words really do help.

Gracious hang in there...it's probably just hormones or water. It will come back off.

Love,
Crystle

Hello all,

I'm still alive (barely) and kicking (actually, it's more of a twitch). I've been suffering from insomnia for about a week now so I've just been a zombie. Eating has NOT been good. I'm starting to get back on track now. I won't even step on a scale until I've had a week legal again. I'll check in again later.

Good Thursday afternoon,

Hope everyone is doing great today and OP!!

I ahve been so busy that I just now got through the posts and had to do that quickly. I just got a new 17" flat screen for my puter and it is really cool. My eyes aren't as bad as I thought they were. ;)

Yellow, That is funny about everyone getting their annual exams. I just got a card in the mail for my smash test too. I'll send you the wine glass charms to make while you are laid up.

Nomoresugar, I was just thinking about I can't wait for my DD to get married and I can cook for just me and my DD. We will eat anything and she is so picky. I will be able to cook what I want. A tan? Going to the pool?

Fruit, Glad you dropped in and will have more time to spend with us. Sounds like you are very busy.

Quilter, WTG on that TM walking. And adding weights. That is great. I got a good laugh about you singing on the TM. I sound just like those people too. Of course my family tells me differently. I can’t wait for CSI. I love it too. Our gym came with an exercise chart. We got it a Galyons (a sporting good store) it is called Body Solid. We added the leg press b/c I really have flabby legs. We both use it. I like it best when I can go off on my own b/c it takes too much time to do it together. I get tired of waiting on him. You will be surprised how fast you can build up your arm strength. Great idea on calling your friend while on the treadmill. Sometimes when I walk alone, I take my cell and call my DS. It makes the time pass. You can’t spot reduce your chin. You have to lose fat overall. Believe me, your face and boobs will be the first to go.

Monet, I hope you are feeling more rested now.

Gracious, I’m so glad you are enjoying your Avon sales. Don’t worry about that pound, you now how fickle that scale can be.

Deb, Pot pie? Where did you get it. My DD would kill for one. Sometimes you just have to listen to your head and take a day off.

Country, I think we all get kind of depressed during these cold dreary months and nothing to keep us busy. Keep doing what you know works and you will see results in the end. (no pun intended)

Mom2Marsh, Hope you can figure out why you are having insomnia. That must be horrible.

Got to run. Hope to be back later.

Jackie

Good Thursday Morning

Good Morning all! It is gorgeous here and suppose to be in the 60s today--AHHHH this is why I love living in the south!

Country--thanks for the sympathy--next week I'll be a much happier camper! I'm sorry that you are struggling--so am I right now. The one thing that keeps me going is that if I give up now, I will never get to where I want to be. Where you are now is certainly better than where you were--and you don't ever want to go back there again!

Trnaquil--Thanks! I just think it is a silly holiday. Why do we need greeting card companies and florists and candy makers to tell us when to say "i love you." If you think about it, it is forced sentiment (better get your sweetie a valentine--or else!) which means the sincerity may be a little suspect. Just my thoughts on the matter.

Jackie--I'm wearing either the black gown I wore to the inaugural or the blue dress I wore new years eve last year. This time I promise I will take pictures!

Monet--Exactly!

Yellow--wouldn't that surprise loss be nice! I'll be thinking about you next week!

Missy--glad to see you back on the board! Try not to be so busy that you can't take some time to treat yourself right!

Kim--In my living roon I sound EXACTLY like the late great Miss Patsy Cline! Maybe we should be Patsy and Diana together to sing a duet sometime!

Gracious--Sweet moments between you and hubby can come anytime--and they will be all the more special because they are sincere. I know from the getting paid once a month thing. When I taught at the university, we got paid once a month. The only problem was that they only gave us 3 weeks worth of salary--that last week of the month was always fun!

Deb--hope you are feeling better--especially those thighs! I will try to have fun at the ball--I've never been to this one before so it will be an adventure.

Mom2Marsh--Hope you get some sleep soon!

I feel shaky today. Burger King is right next door to the church (where I am this morning) and they are cooking up a storm for the lunch crowd. The fumes a drifting this way. . . I must be strong!

Melf 02-13-2003 02:36 PM

Went to lunch with dh yesterday at Souper Salad. It's a good place cause I don't over do, I don't touch the :nono: stuff on the salad or potato bar. Wednesdays is COBB Salad & they also had a marinated mushroom salad with artichokes & red bell peppers which was really yummy. Got back too late last night from church to post. Well, actually, I got a chance to chat with dd in TX, so that is what kept me away. It was good to chat with her, as she has been sick & we keep missing each other.

This morning I just could not make myself do the walking cd's. I woke up at 9, well actually dragged myself out of bed at 9 & was soooo sore from yesterday, so instead of trying the cd, I got dressed, found my fanny pack which allowed me to pack my keys & cell phone, along with a 16 oz bottle of water & hit the road. It's 60 degrees, perfect for a walk. I told myself that I would do a half mile & back, but once I was out there, I walked a mile down & back, so 2 miles in 31 minutes! Not too bad considering the lenght of time the I have avoided walking!

I need to get some coffee, then will reply to a few posts before I hit the shower.

FILLISE, I hear you about the insurance transfer. We went thru that last year, but when I saw the last time I had gone for my annual checkup I was a little surprised & ashamed that I had let it go that long...almost 3 years since I had seen my GYN! I've kept up with the mammos, but you know, when you work in a small hospital sometimes there are fringe benefits that we can skip some of the red tape, you know? But anyway, watch those sweets this week. Don't let them get the best of ya! Hey, were you strong enough to push those BK fumes the other way? If not, I hope it was a sour-dough burger you gave into & not a whopper! :nono: LOL

BOB, I had not heard of ACTIVELLA...are they new? Girl I wish I could do something about these hot flashes but they persist! I can't take the hormones because of my history of blood clots. IA friend told me about some Progesterone Cream & I'm seriously thinking about trying it. I read an article in Prevention about it yesterday. Think I'll give it a try.

Country, Don't throw in the towel girl, we just have to keep plugging & we'll eventually win this battle. I've been down because my jeans have been fitting a little toooo snug too, so I know how you feel, but don't give up. Journaling is a really helpful tool & I was doing it for a while & found it to really shed some light on some of my eating problems. Also helps to keep you accountable!

acw, Glad you have that computer problem fixed up! Sounds like it's better than before! I just saw your journal & I commend you for your frankness with yourself, addressing some serious issues. You are doing well to increase your activity & water. Checked your bio to see if you have a handle listed for aol instant messenger or yahoo, but didn't see one. Do you have any chat programs that we can chat?

Tranquil, Don't you hate that when you wake up so puffy that you can't even make a fist? My hands have been so tight & still having the swelling of my legs. I guess it's because I have not been drinking enough water???!! Hope you feel better soon. Don't worry about that water weight. It will leave again! Girl, I am determined that this extra 6 lbs have GOT to come off before the spring. Girl, your Greek Salad sounds yummy!

Jack-K Yea, I know I'm not drinking enough water most days, but I'm fixing to change that. When I went walking this am, I brought a lottle with me & did drink it :) Girl, from your numbers at the end of your post I see that you are ALMOST at your 100 lb loss! You Go Girl!! We will need to have a board-wide celebration when you get there! A new 17" flat screen! That's great...sure will help poor eyesight! LOL

YellowRose, You think we can order the Aunt Gussies Biscotti online? I checked their web site & even emailed them, but didn't get a response. I have also checked with 2 of the area HFS to see if they could order, but I keep getting :nono: answers. :( Hoping to check out the Whole Foods Market in Houston when we can visit dd in Dayton again, but have no idea when that might be. DH told me last night that his company will be sending him to Houston for a week soon & we're checking the calendar to schedule it when I can go with him! They have an appartment there for us to stay, so I'll get to visit dd & do some other things in the area!!!! Glad to hear that you were able to find the Spelt Sesame Sticks!

Nomoresugar, Good buy on the Agave! A suntan in Feb??? That is amazing! LOL I agree with the empty nest benefits. DH & I totally enjoy our freedom! LOL

fruitloupe, We miss you too. You sound like you are really busy these days!

Monet, Funny you meantioned sleeping poorly cause I've been doing exactly that these past few nights. That's why I had a hard time getting up this morning. I actually woke up early & was going to get up, but next thing I knew it was 90 minutes later :o Sometimes we just need it, but actually, I usually feel better when I get up early. :?:

Debelli, Is it something in the air that so many of us are not sleeping well?? Poor you! Did you have one of those Pot Pies with the WW crust that you showed us at the HFS? I have looked for those here, but :nono: not here! I hope we get some news of SolShine soon! Gee, it's been one thing after another with your van, huh? My old car ran with the check engine light on for several thousand miles cause we changed the sensors & it still came back on, so we just left it like that. To answer your question: what would cause someones nipple to retract?, I'm afraid it's a sign of breast cancer...that's why it concerned him. As a matter of fact, it concerned me alot too at first, but like I said, it was like this when I had my last mommo, last Feb & I mentioned it to the tech as a problem, but they said my mammo was normal. My GYN said "It doesn't matter what it said, go do it again". I guess I should have gone to him then, but I let it slid. Hopefully it IS NOTHING!

QUILTER/Kim, The Home and Garden Show sounds really inviting. Hey, good for you for getting on the TM 2 nights in a row! We can do this GirlFriend!

Gracious, Yeap, this VD will be lonely for several of us, but I had already agreed to talk to a WMU group Friday night about a recently attended Retreat, so it looks like DH will be alone & I'll be 30 miles away. I hate the thought of driving all the way home after dark though because it is a windey, rurual road 30 mile south of us to the Gulf. One road in & one road out. At least I have a cell phone with me. I didn't use to be concerned about things like that, but there has been so much going on in our area, with a serial rapist & other things. But you know, I cannot let that limit my activities! Best of luck to you on your new AVON job!

Mom2Marsh, You having sleeping problems too?? Now I KNOW it must be something in the air. You, Monet, Debelli, & me too! What gives? At least mine is not so bad as you & Deb. Hope it resolves soon!

Solshine, Where are you?? Hope your surgery went well & you are being lovingly cared for! :grouphug:

Rosalie, SEF, BKM, RED1 & JRed, we miss you! Gator, where are you?

I have been chatting with Thunderwoman (Sonya)lately. She's still nursing the baby & is having a hard time following this WOE right now.

Well, I started this post early, but it's hours later now & I've had coffee & brunch. I have got to tell you about my brunch. It was excellent. I found a recipe for Mexican Scrambled eggs which I will be posting on the board as soon as I finish here. It hadsalsa, black beans, cilantro, eggs, didn't have the cream cheese it called for, so I sub pepper jack cheese in it's place. I served it on a half of a WW pita. It was great! Since I didn't eat breakfast, that will hold me till supper. The men are having their monthly Men's Night Supper at the church, so we women are going to eat out at Golden Corral. I pledge to eat only the legal stuff & NO dessert bar!

Check with all of you later. It feels good to be able to catch up with the posts for a change, but tomorrow I go back to work for a long haul, so I may not get to post as much. Sat, Sun, & Mon, I have to pull 12 hr shifts. She's trying to kill me with 3 in a row?? Well, I'll survive it! Somehow!

Zanne 02-13-2003 02:40 PM

Good Afternoon All

It's glorious and sunny here, but still in the deep freeze!

I'm still staying OP and the jeans aren't too tight today. I have leggings on underneath cause I was out in the cold and even with the excess underlayer, they're still fitting ok. I actually make myself wear jeans so that I don't get too big! If I wore stretchy pants all the time, I would expand quickly! As soon as the jeans are a little tight, I know I have to correct my eating habits. I will change into something more comfortable after my evening shower tho.

QUILTER--Sorry my bloat was contagious thru the puter! It is not a nice feeling at all. I hope you feel better today. I think that's a really GREAT idea about talking on the phone with your friend! The time will pass quickly.

FILLISE--I was laughing out loud so hard at what you said about me beating my scale to death with a hairbrush! I could just picture several people who had a bad day with the scale hitting it with a brush and all of them saying "bad scale, BAD SCALE!" It just struck me as funny.

I'm going to chime in on the VD thing too. My DH and I don't celebrate. He's told me that he doesn't need a special day to tell me he loves me. I agree. Look at the stress it puts on people trying to find the "perfect" gift and/or card. Plus the price triples on things like flowers. It's more fun getting a surprise any day of the year, not just because you feel you HAVE to do it on VD. Like MONET, I think it's just aother day retail takes advatage of to make some $$$.

Now that being said, I answered the door a little while ago and there was a man with a nice floral arrangement. I tried to figure out who had sent it, but had to read the card cause I couldn't guess. (No way was it DH!!). My BROTHER had sent it! Now that's kind of nice:)

I gotta go and get washing done. I keep putting it off. I hate laundry.

Bye for now,

Melf 02-13-2003 02:47 PM

Zanne, we were posting at the same time! What a nice thing for your db to do!! SHAAAAAAA!! Enjoy to flowers.

Mel 02-13-2003 04:19 PM

Busy board

I just can't keep up with this board!

4 days OP- scale hasn't budged. If drinking water was the answer, I'd be Ms. Olympia by now!

Thanks to all who tried to encourage me- unfortunately, it's not fluid, but good ole fat. My pants are too tight everywhere and my bras actually fit again. I'm sure it's not muscle there  I don't know what to do- if I eat any less I start going into some sort of "starvation psychosis" and become so fixated on food that I start to binge. Which is how this mystery weight appeared. It really is no mystery. The only mystery is how to get rid of it, since nothing seems to work anymore. I think I'm going to have one of those BMR tests- course if it turns out my max calories is 800 I may just shoot myself.

I went out and bought VD cards for dh and ds- that's about it! Dh gave me a HUGE boquet 2 weeks ago for our 25th anniversary of going out together (I didn't remember that!) I think he wiped out the floral budget for the year. It was so sweet and so big.

Fillise- Hang in there, seems like the funk is going around as well as the bloat.

Quilter- Good for you on the treadmill! I have one at home but rarely use it. It's really noisy, and the belt isn't wide enough for safely running. Someday it'l go at a garage sale if I can wrestle it downstairs. I love my recumbent bike tho, and the ellipticals at the gym.

Fruit- Glad to see you peeking in. Hope you have a few seconds for yourself once in a while.

Deb- Sorry about the car troubles. I know that van is your second home. Maybe your first, from the sounds of your days. BTW, I'm thinking of coming down to Ft. lauderdale again in April. Gotta see the new niece and get some SUN! I'll let you know....

gotta go do homework check,
mel

Solly 02-13-2003 04:45 PM

Just a quickie to catch up.

Got to run get my nails done and home to a pot of chili. See all you girls down south don't get to have chili b/c you all don't get cold weather. I'll trade you.

Fillise, stay away from that BK. Be strong. I definately want pics from this shindig.

Melf, WTG on getting out there and walking today. Walking outside is much more interesting that doing those tapes. Melf don't bring out the champagne yet. Those last 5 lbs are taking forever. I'll get there one day. I know you will do fine tonight at dinner.

Zanne, I'm glad your pants are not so tight. I agree with you on the stretch pants, you just expand along with them. How sweet for your DB to send you flowers.

Mel, I just don't have an answer for you. But hang in there and stop worrying about it. Maybe you just need to get away from the scale for awhile and let your body adjust. I bet you haven't gained that much. Please don't get discouraged.

Have a great night.

Jackie

SolShine 02-13-2003 05:48 PM

:s: Thursday: What a day for surgery. All went well, very friendly folks where I went. Everyone seemed to enjoy their job and the surgeon was already up and refreshed for the day. We had a bit of a delay since the room we were going to be in was still occupied by another surgeon who was running late because of another surgeon. So, my 9:00 time turned into 10:50. It wasn't so bad, though, due to a wonderful husband by my side and some interesting pre-operative drugs.
The doctor said that all went well, removing some scar tissue out of my left ankle and other bits of tissue and rebellious ligaments. I do have a softening of some cartillage in the joint, which he was able to smooth out, but only time will tell if that will pose any future problems. For now, I get to keep my butt down and leg up, continously packed in ice for the next day or so. All the while, I get to put pressure on my foot/ankle as I am able to (you know, when I have to get up to use the bathroom, etc.) and by the end of 4-5 days, I should be walking around on it on a limited basis.
TTFN. Thank you all for your great support....aahhhmmmm, time for another nap.

Ellen 02-13-2003 05:49 PM

Drove my son to the department of labor this afternoon. They gave him a list of numbers to call since it looks like he was wrongfully terminated, and cheated out of over time and commission. He is in hot water as he does not have the $$ to pay rent, and probably will not get his tax return or unemployment $$ until too late, and may get evicted. Wish we could help him, but we can't this time. I am praying he finds a job fast. He has a friend who may be able to hire him in computer networking, which is more his field, so I am praying that works out, and fast! ( I may have the space, but I am not sure I want him to move back in! )

I never did get my nap this morning. Instead I got on the treadmill. Now isn't that dedication? I hope I get my reward on the scale! tee hee!

MEL: Have you had your thyroid checked recently? The new normal range guidelines is a TSH of .5 to about 3.0 instead of 5.5. If your thyroid is slowing down, that could be why you are not losing.

Gotta go fix dinner! Will try and get back later.

Ellen 02-13-2003 05:52 PM

SOL: So happy to hear things went well! Hope you are up and hopping around in no time! :balloons:

Mel 02-13-2003 06:05 PM

Hey Solshine!

Sol- So glad to hear from you! And just how entertaining were those pre-op drugs? LOL Keep the foot up, we're thinking of you. {{{{hugs}}}} Tell Vince he better pamper you!

Monet- Uh, I think last thyroid check was about 20 years ago when it went beserk after my daughter was born. I was running around in a T-shirt in Toronto in November, eating ice cream and french fries for every meal and loving it. At first I thought "boy- nursing is just wonderful!" but a few friends clued me in that it wasn't quite normal. Unfortunately, my thryoid levels returned to normal, then tanked. But not to medication level. You're right, I should have them checked.... thanks.
