    WELCOME!

  • GOOD MONDAY MORNING EVERYONE!

Will post my usual morning post sometime later, but wanted to make sure I got our
    MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY
done early in the morning, so here's my contribution for MM, there are two of them today, both are good!!

    CAUSE AND EFFECT

Whatever it is you desire, do not seek to get it or to have it directly, for that will usually lead only to frustration. Instead, for whatever you desire, seek to cause it and then it will happen. The way to control the results you get is by controlling the causes you create. Once the cause is there, its corresponding effect flows easily, naturally and inevitably into being.

If you let go of a rock, gravity will cause it to fall to the ground. Though you cannot change the law of gravity, you can control whether you hold on to the rock or let it go.

By the same token, though you cannot control which causes bring about which results, you can control which causes you choose to create. And by so doing, you control the results that come from those efforts.

Just as surely as a rock falls to the ground, results flow from your efforts. Choose those efforts wisely and you'll be able to precisely determine the results you get.

    WORK TO BE DONE

The fact that there is much work still to be done, many obstacles still to be overcome, is no reason to be dismayed. Because the moments will come, you will fill them with effort and value, and life will grow increasingly richer as a result.

The assumption that effort is something to be avoided is simply not true. Wishing for a life free of challenges is wishing for something you really would not want if you ever got it. Look back at where you've come from and you will understand. You'll see that the times which have brought the most value and richness to your life were the times which demanded the most of you.

Find joy in the challenges, in the efforts, in the living and in the giving. The moments when much is asked of you, are the moments when much is given to you.

What an incredible, priceless opportunity it is to be able to work, to learn, to grow, to accomplish and to drink in all the richness along the way. There is always work to be done and there is indeed no better way for things to be.

  • Welcome to Monday!!!
    Good morning everybody!

Hope you all are ready for another big week! If you’re not, then you’d better go for Plan B! LOL Had a pretty good weekend. Nothing really exciting to report, except that we took advantage of the cool weather and worked l ike crazy out in the yard. My legs are aching like crazy today. We also walked in the neighborhood yesterday. That felt so great. I really wish I could continue doing that with really wonderful regularity. Sigh!

Here’s something I read the other day that I thought would work for a motivation this week. It’s from the weekend Kashi newsletter that I get. Pretty much stuff we’ve all read or heard. But I for one could use a refresher reminder.

    What's Stopping You?

One of the most important factors in maintaining a healthy lifestyle is exercise. So why does the thought of exercise make so many people cringe? The answer is that many of the ways people "exercise" are boring and if you have to do it by yourself, you probably won't stick with it. Try these tips below for starting and sticking with your choice of physical activity.

    1. Free your mind. Stop thinking of exercise as work or some chore you have to do. Start thinking of exercise as playing or movement. You don't have to go to the gym five days a week to gain the benefits of physical activity. Play Frisbee with your dog, do some gardening, or take time to play more with your kids.

    2. Be realistic. Start small with realistic goals (focus on frequency and duration) and you will have a better chance of achieving them. If you have to shorten your routine due to time constraints, then do so. By doing a shorter version you will most likely avoid the feeling of failure you would be likely to experience if you skipped exercising entirely.

    3. Try something new. Are you tired of slogging away on an exercise bike or treadmill only to look at your watch and find you've only been going for ten minutes when it feels like an hour? Go surfing, go cross-country skiing, take a tai chi class, go dancing or take a nature hike instead. If it's not fun, you probably won't continue to do it for very long. Make sure you have variety and continue to try new things so you don't get bored.

    4. Try something old. All too often I hear people say "I used to play volleyball when I was younger." Substitute the name of any sport you want for volleyball. I've heard them all. It's okay for adults to play too. Don't be afraid to take up one of your favorite pastimes from the good old days.

    5. Develop a buddy system. Choose activities you can do with friends. They will provide you with great motivation to stick with it and you will do the same for them. There's nothing like a phone call from a motivated friend to save you from extending your visit to the couch.

My DH has lost about 12 pounds since June. This is a legitimate recording because it was from the doctor’s office. Well, I asked him the other day, how he thought he was losing all this weight. Because he’s not eliminating anything from his diet. Well, he said softball. He’s been playing once a week and running around like crazy during that hour of their game. He’s also not eating as much portion wise. So here’s the thing . . . if he can lose all that weight without even trying, think of what we could lose because we are putting some real effort into limiting our food. So, this shows me how moving our bodies is ESSENTIAL in this journey we are all on.

Okay, friends! Have a great day! Take care.

  • Good Morning!

I was missing in action last week, in case no one noticed I was gone!

It was a busy week, and when I tried to get caught up on posts, I couldn't. I just gave up. This week will probably be even worse. I am doing ok, staying on plan for the most part, I think I have lost a bit, but nothing official. My hubby is still doing great and it is fun to have someone to help hold you accountable. We went to a church dinner last night, and they served Chinese. We were able to pick our way through the offerings and find a mostly acceptable meal. After the service, they had dessert. We both walked down the line and vicariously enjoyed the desserts, then drank a glass of water! I am sure I would have eaten something if he hadn't decided he was not going to, and he would have eaten something if he hadn't wanted to prove to me he was big and strong! haha!

It has rained so much here, the pool almost overflowed on Saturday. I kind of wished it had, just to see what would happen! Hubby lowered the level though, and he may have to do it again, as it continues to rain. Now another hurricane is heading this way, and will push more rain up towards us. Pretty soon, I am going to need a boat instead of a car!

Hope everyone has a great week! I hope I can get back on here sometime in the next couple days!

Hang in there, just remember the off limit stuff will make you feel bad! Passing it up will make you feel good, and strong! And most of all, YOU DESERVE TO FEEL GOOD AND STRONG! God doesn't make junk...so you are worthy of success.
  • Monday Morning!

Greetings to all on this new week.

MONET- I noticed you were MIA and wondered what happened. Your back is doing better hopefully. How wonderful to have hubby on board like that.

QUILTER-You seem excited this week! Looking to do some exercise are you? I haven't been exercising this past week, except for one day when I did ab crunches. I am losing well with what I am doing right now but I might get the exercise bug again. It seems to come and go with me for some reason.

DEBELLI- Thank you for sharing with us. Even amidst struggle there is encouragement and lessons learned for all of us. Thanks.

I will check in later to see how everyone is. ciao!
  • Did I mention that we bought a digital scale? Oh, how much fun to know EXACTLY what you weigh! No more worrying over that shakey needle!

GRACIOUS---I guess I'm just up because I have a 3-day work week this week. We are heading out of town for a few days, and I think I'm getting excited!!! Congrats on losing. You are doing really great!!! I think I REALLY have a problem with this thyroid, because each pound is such a struggle for me. It's sure not as easy as it was even two years ago. I feel like I'm denying myself everything and still the scale doesn't move. (Actually with my new digital scale, I'm in worse shape than I thought!) So that's why, for me, I think the exercise is going to make the difference.

    Have a great day.

  • Good Morning!

Just trying to cool down for a few minutes before I jump in the shower to get ready to go, so I thought I'd get in whatever post I could.

Despite being a bit tired, looking a bit gloomy out there, I pushed myself and got those important 4.5 miles in. Took me 53:05, which surprised me that I did even that well considering I felt like I was going a turtle's pace.

I made it home in one piece after watching my Nieces-they were actually very good, well, at least towards the end, that's when Madison got a hold of crayons and decided she'd rather have pink tiles than white! My Sister and BIL had a good time though, they went to lunch and to see GREEK WEDDING, which they both liked a lot. I offered to bbsit again sometime in the future.

After my walk/jog this morning, I realized something, even though I knew this before, I just hadn't given it much thought, but since I had my little hiatus from exercising, I've been waking up very hungry and eating very early in the morning. When I exercise I don't get like that at all, it seems the exercise surpresses hunger, which I've posted info about in the past. How quickly we can forget such important things and the good that exercise can do among the obvious.

I have to start to go get ready to go the my Mom's place and work. It's going to be boring and I'm not looking forward to it, but it has to be done nonetheless. I don't even have anything to take with me to eat for lunch, wasn't prepared. Hmmmm, oh yes, I have some plain yogurt that I can stir some fruit in to and take with me.

Oh, can't forget, you gals in TX & LA, praying that you don't get his by Isidore! This is a biggie and we down here in FL know what it's like having this loom over your heads as a possibility of arriving. No matter where it's headed I hope there's some kind of system that will rip it apart before if makes landfall.

I will try to get back on here sometime later on after I get the kids and take Michael to his guitar lesson.

    Have a wonderful week everyone!!!

  • Hi, all! Had to catch up on all the posts since I am not at a computer Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.

I am amazed at how different we all are and yet how similarly so many of us respond to food stimulation! Our little discussion late last week about how most of us have a problem with just a taste of something starting us spiraling down was really an eye-opener for me. I've been on SB since 8/1/02 and have really not experienced temptation for sweets yet, feeling like SB really suppresses my appetite for sugar. I just hope that continues. And I'm actually so excited about that that I don't want to "break" the spell by eating something with sugar in it.

Debbie, I am so glad you have returned to the healthy eating that makes you feel good again. You sound like your old self this morning, out exercising and feeling strong again. Yes, you are an inspiration to us all and we are so glad to see you on track again.

For that matter, we all can encourage each other every day. I never dreamed how influential this support group could be to me and I am grateful.

My DH has finally begun losing weight OP. He had a terrible time adjusting to this WOE but really wanted to do it. He had never had to worry about what went into his mouth before. Now that the weight has begun coming off, you ought to hear him spouting off to anyone who will listen about how wonderful the program is! He's so cute about it and I definitely enjoy him doing this for life with me! It really helps.

He is the one who got me started on the microwave thing -- asking y'all if any of you had heard of the dangers of microwave cooking. Well, I got on-line to find out and there are some people out there who really feel like microwaving food actually changes the molecular structure of the food you cook! Yikes! Even if it is not dangerous, if it takes all the nutritional value out of the food it cooks, that's a reason to stop using it. So this gal, who has cooked almost everything by microwave for the last 22 years, has decided to change her cooking habits! Oh, my -- what changes have occurred in my life since 8/1/02! Y'all pray for me!

I didn't lose this week...I think it is the first week since 8/1 that I haven't lost. Can't keep going at the rate I was, I know. So I am not discouraged. But like you, Debbie, I think I will start weighing myself less often. I do feel like a slave to that scale sometimes, and I shouldn't. I feel good on SB, I feel like I am losing...weighing once a month ought to be enough. Right?!

Everyone, have a fabulous week and remember, we are one healthy group of people who have an entirely new way of life as we take it a day at a time, leaning heavily on each other for that encouragement we need...any time of the day or night, we are able to reach out to each other for courage! Wow!
  • Hi all!!

Just a quick check in I had a very busy week last week. I'm hoping to get to the boards daily this week. I did read all the post. I just didn't have time to post. I hope everyone has a nice OP week!!

    I'll check back later.
  • Monday Morning
    Hello all!

The retreat was great! Even though it was a working weekend for me, it was relaxing just to be in the mountains. I only did ok with food. I was fine for most of the weekend, but breakfast turned out to be a problem for me (all the cooks fixed muffins, waffles and whatnot). I did ok for most of the rest of the meals, but wasn't too good at breakfast.

I did check out the Western NC farmer's market! I came home with a peck and a half of good, fresh mountain apples! They are wonderful. I got some for eating and good tart ones for making applesauce. I'm going to make some with agave and see how it goes. I love homemade apple sauce. They also have a large variety of no sugar added jams and jellies, so I got some SF apple butter and peach and cherry jam. I haven't tasted any of them yet--but will make some toast this morning. Frog is comming this weekend to do my Southern Living at Home party and I thought I'd make Deb's fabulous crustless cheesecake and use the SF cherry as a topping!

I can't even begin to catch up with the board from the end of last week. I glanced over it enough to see that Zach is recovering nicely and is home from the hospital--I know Tranquil is so relieved!

I also see a lot of soul searching--and I think that is good for all of us. Let's face it, there is some stuff out there we need to learn about healthy eating, self-image, and the difference between physical and emotional hunger. So the struggles are part of the process--if we are struggling it means we are still learing. That's actually a good thing--even though it is very hard.

I did get to see the Auburn game on Thursday night--War Eagle! And I also saw the NC State-Texas Tech game on Saturday. State blew a 24 point lead in the 2nd half--but came back to win it in overtime. Sheesh--I'll take a W any way I can get it.

We also saw some of the UT-UF game Sat night--I knew Gator was blowing smoke--but BOB your guys were just out played! Sorry--I was rooting for the Big orange.

Got to work now--today is the first day of my leave from the church--I feel like I might actually be able to get my campaign work done today!

  • Monday - YUCHY POOHEY!
    Hi All:

Monet – WOW that is a lot of rain you are getting…it has been wet here as well – must have poured last night because everything was drenched outside when I was leaving for work. Hopefully you won’t get any more rain! “just remember the off limit stuff will make you feel bad” How true!!!! SO VERY TRUE!!!! That is wonderful about your DH being your helpmate – and of course, he will definitely benefit as well…Well when you get into your boat, maybe you can float on down and visit us for a while!

Quilter – Hey there! Wow, that is great his losing weight – but doesn’t it just get under your skin that most men can drop weight so easily! Well this week I have made myself go on a challenge, just like your challenges and Jack-K’s…my challenge is to have only one serving a day of a starchy carb(Measured serving of one) and be faithful to my diary again…

Gracious – I am going to start doing the abs and what little exercise I can do without aggravating my foot this week. Are you going to try doing the WATP tapes again? I am going to give Serene my tape because I cannot do it with my foot in such bad shape… I am going to make an appointment with the personal trainer and get myself back to being motivated…. Next March I have a friend coming to visit from Germany and I want to be in better shape and thinner….

Deb – I am so glad that you survived your time with the little ones! I really want to see My Greek Fat Wedding, and it just never seems like there is any time to…. About the exercise, I too realized just mentally how good I felt when I was exercising. I was always on an energy high, and ever since I stopped I have been dragging and moody… The doctor said to start walking, that though it will be painful, it is not going to get worse, just hurt… he gave me the name of a place to go for shoe fittings and I am going today at lunch time…the shoe will allow cushioning for me to comfortably walk without too much pain…only 8 more days till London! Lots and Lots and Lots of walking!!!!

LKF – WOW!!! LOOK AT THE SUCCESS YOU ARE HAVING!!!! You are doing so great! And having DH there to be supportive and you can be each others crutches whenever you feel a bit rocky is great!

    Mercy – Hi!!!!!!!

BOB – I am sorry that we missed our weekend together! Sorry about the outcome of the game this weekend – NOT! Hahahaha – Just glad the Gators won!!! Though all the tatoos, pom poms and tshirts I bought for the weekend getaway went to waste – so will have to use them for another game…. I even bought you Tennessee tatoo!!!!

Fillise – I am glad you enjoyed your retreat – and that you are back safe, sound and happy….Yes, breakfast like that would be difficult! But you are home now and in control – you can get back to normal Zachman is doing great, today is his first day back to school – so far no phone calls asking me to pick him up so we are doing great! Proves that kids are made of rubber, the way they bounce back!

Toni - Lucky YOU with the nice cool autumn weather - it hasn't hit here yet...not until Halloween.... Sorry to hear about the modem! Glad to see you on line!

CONFESSION TIME: I am soooo sorry that I went off program on Saturday for Serene’s birthday dinner…..I had a salad for dinner that was not worth raving about, a bit disappointed! But, ended up eating that steaming hot French bread, a bite of crème brulee, and a hunk of cheesecake, along with a martini made with strawberry vodka and a splash of passionfruit juice (not a real martini), then a glass of port, we all shared a bottle of wine (Spanish red with a hint of chocolate & plums) and then I had a glass of Riesling….So the next day I was doubled over sick, with the trots as well – it was not worth it – and the scale is up big time along with TOM started too! So I gained …..drum roll……8 ½ pounds!!!! But the only thing positive about it – EYE OPENING!!!! Isn’t gluttony a deadly sin? Well, I understand why! I am on a new path….I am going to find my way back to the other month before my foot injury and I am going to start being proud of myself for being such a LOSER!!!!

Well Better finish my salad and get back to work….

    Sabrina

  • Toni48 and Tranquil, thanks a million for your encouraging words. You are right, men can lose weight so much more easily than women can. I have to admit, though, that when my DH joined me in this new eating plan, it didn't start to fall off him quite as quickly as it had times in the past -- just shows you, even men slow down in their ability to lose weight fast the older they get! This should be a lesson to us -- this time, LET'S KEEP IT OFF once we are at goal! And how do we do that, friends? By staying on this marvelous program! I sure plan to!
  • Happy Monday (I guess)

Well I'm still suffering with this stupid sinus infection/cold. I can't let my box of tissues get to far away. I'm really tired of this. I haven't walked since Thursday. Planning to try it tonite. I did workout a little last nite and I did feel better afterwards. I guess it's those endorphins. Still not much of an appetite. Made myself eat some eggs this am and some chicken salad and a piece of cheesecake (Deb's). Hopefully, the scale will be nice to me, except TOM is due any day. Gosh I have only been to the bathroom once today. Boy that is unusual. It is hard to get the water down. Just don't feel like it. It really doesn't have any taste.

I go the the rheumatologist on Wed so if I'm not better I'll get him to give me something for this. My teeth just hurt so bad.

It was cool here this morning, in the 50's. I think the high 70's this afternoon.

Quilter, Thanks for the MM. Yes we have heard them before, but it's always good to be reminded. Have a great weekend.

Monet, Of course we missed you. Glad you dropped in. Great going at the Church dinner. Yes it does help to have someone to make you accountable. Good for your DH.

Gracious, Sounds like you are doing great. Have a good week.

Deb, Does your mom have computers and the internet at her office? If so, you could always catch up on your posts. Stay ahead of the game this week, fix you some lunch the night before so you don't sabatoge yourself. Throw together a salad or something. Thanks for the MM. Always a good way to start our week. I had a little trouble understanding the cause one.

LKF, It is nice that your Dh is doing this with you. It really helps to have his support. Mine does it too. Although he cheats alot when we are out. Don't worry about the scale not moving. I think the biggest thing with this WOE is the loss of inches. I won't lose any weight, but all of a sudden my clothes are bigger. I have lost a lot more inches than any other diet. I do work out and walk and I'm sure that has helped to, but the inches seem to come off quicker with this WOE.

Mercy, Hope you have a great week.

Fillise, glad you had a great weekend. Sometimes your choices on food can't be helped. That's when you pick something, make it count like a carb and go on. I have had to eat bread I knew wasn't sgww, so I just counted it as a carb and went on. Have a enjoyable week.

Toni, Hi, missed you last week. Seems like computer problems are contagious on this board. Glad you had a spare. Have a great week. It is cool here too especially in the mornings.

Tranquil, Sounds like all had some celebration. I think I would be hung over for a week. Hoping you can find some sort of exercise you can do with your foot. I just love lifting weights. I keep thinking about how it burns more calories and boosts your metabolism. Sounds like you are starting anew and you will be fine. Your challenge sounds great. You can do it. I just know it.

    Have a great day everyone.

  • Jackie, you are right about the inches coming off and I am sure they will...they really have been already. And every time I look at what you have done since last October, I am utterly blown away! Yes, the inches have come off, but so have the pounds! I am so proud of you!!!
