Default Jumping back in

After falling off the wagon for a spell, I'm starting back on P1 tomorrow. I haven't gained any weight since I stopped, but the cravings are back, so I'm hoping to get rid of them before moving on. Wish me luck!

Hello. I am starting tomorrow. I had not planned on starting anything but somehow South Beach popped up and I clicked on the link, read about it and said why not. I have done almost every other diet. I am always hungry so that worries me. Is there something like celery that is free that im starving I can have whenever? I am trying to make a meal plan for tomorrow so I can go to the market and get everything together. I have lost 4lbs on my own just by gulp giving up soda and sweets. I obviously need something more. I will post often and need all the support I can get!

Hi I started Saturday (yesterday) and so far so good. I don't have much to lose and am nervous about my body becoming too accustomed to this lower carb phase so I may just move to Phase 2 after 5 or 10 days-not sure yet.

Default HI! Newbie here....

Hi everyone,

I am helping my husband get started with the SBD. I have been reading all weekend in preparation for his beginning Phase 1 tomorrow. I wish I'd found this website before I clicked on supposed recipe links that took me to porn sites! Ya gotta love the internet. Anyway, I've been reading the recipe section here and I'm VERY excited about what I saw.

I say that "he's" starting the SBD, but I will join him to some degree. I'm actually underweight, but have truly AWFUL eating habits. Unless it's full of sugar and processed white flour, typically I don't eat it. I'm blessed with some bizarre metabolism that has let me get away with terrible eating although my LDL is starting to creep up and I feel generally tired. I'm hoping that following the SBD will remedy that.

But... back to my husband. He was overweight since age 15 (6' 5" and 275-375 pounds.) He lost 110 lbs (down to 240) 7 years ago by cutting back portion sizes and following a low fat diet of his own invention. He also exercised more and more (we are both avid tennis players) as the weight came off and he had more energy. He did all of this while in an unhappy marriage in which his ex-wife constantly sabotaged his good eating. He would come home from work and cook his own meals because she would not cook healthy foods. It took him about 18 months to lose the weight and he kept it all off for about 5 years. Over the last 18 months he has gradually gained back 15-20 lbs. As we have gotten busier as our kids have gotten older (in our "blended family" we have custody of our 4 daughters - 2 aged 11 and 2 aged 14) we have begun eating more convenience foods and therefore LOTS more bad carbs and fats. He hopes that a couple of weeks in Phase 1 and a few weeks of phase 2 will get the bulk of that 20 pounds off.

For myself, I'd just like to stop craving the carbs that have formed the basis of my diet for so many years. I need to get healthier, not lose weight.

Anyway, sorry for the long post. I'm grateful for the things I've already learned on this forum. I'm looking forward to moving forward!

Thanks and good luck to you all.

Leslie

Hey all!! Dh & I are both starting SBD tomorrow. I'm working on fixing our lunches now.... I've also got those little (I don't know what they are called) egg muffin type things in the oven so we can have them for b-fast in the morning. I'm looking forward to Phase I even if dh isn't. He's worried about his bread & potatoes. It was like an act of congress getting him to commit.

Hi Little Chicks! Wanted to welcome you to SB way of eating!

Just thought I'd share some words of wisdom as you get started...

On Phase I you might be wearing Crankypants.. You may feel a bit tired, headachey and well generally cranky.. It will pass! During this time you may want to put any exercise on hold till you get to phase 2.

Beans are your friend! They are chockful of "slow" carbs, fiber and a good source of protein. Try the Taco Bake, and Roasted Chickpeas (see PH1 receipe section...).

Remember that SBD is not about LOW carbs, it's about "SLOW" carbs.Good carbs that the body needs to work at to break down thereby keeping your blood sugars at a fairly constant level. This will really help you loose the cravings...

You might want to check out www.fitday.com (free) or www.dietpower.com. (diet power offers 30 day trial and then you have to purchase the software...)These sites seem to be the most popular if you are interested in help to plan and log your food, check calories, fat, protein, carbs... and logging your activity.

And develop a Hump for all that water you'll be drinking! ................
and Have patience and be kind to yourself

The Chicks here are all Very Supportive, very knowledgeable and Caring..visit us often, stop by the daily thread and join us! Read the "Stickys" for words of wisdom .

Welcome to the Beach chicks. I will be restarting phase 1 for a few days (maybe longer) after eating everything in site all week end long. I feel so rotten today, I have a big fat sugar hangover. I feel so icky that I can't even eat anything. Remember to read the faq sections and ask if you can't find anything this chicks are vaults of information.

I like doing the phase one every once in a while. I dont have the cravings for pasta, but on my phase 2 I do tend to talk myself into chinese food ( which I LOVE). The time has come for a nice phase one to refocus on good food and healthy homemade food that I can control the ingriedients. Luckily this week will be hot so I will be making loads of salads and grilled chicken and steak.

Good luck to all!

Hi everyone! I started Phase 1 today and so far it's going pretty good. I've tried WW and Slim Fast before and did ok on both of them but I guess I get bored too easily so I've decided to try South Beach. I've heard wonderful things about it. The only problem I've had so far is that my grocery bill for this week skyrocketed! Why is it that healthy food is so much more expensive than junk food?

Red face

Starting today. I posted my own topic not knowing I should've posted here 1st. But I decided to begin originally on July 1...but...due to the holiday weekend I wanted to wait until today! I had a breakfast cup (found recipe here) water, slices of lunch meat (chicken) and some pepperonis (which I found out I shouldn't have ....and I think for dinner, baked or grilled chicken with broccoli. I may try broccoli, bacon, and cheese salad (recipe found here also!) Have a great day and good luck to EVERYONE!!!

Dh & I didn't do as well today as hoped. Well, we did up until we dropped the kids off with my dad & then his dad. Dh took "dairy" to mean a milkshake. I'm like.... um, no. Anyway... we've had a babysitter crisis today that turned me into a stress eater. I didn't do too bad though... I had about a half a cup of baked beans. That's better than what I would have done in the past.

Breakfast was V8 & little egg cups/muffins.. whatever
Lunch was a grilled chicken salad
And the supper was a grilled pork chop & green beans.

I didn't snack today. I wasn't prepared for the snack at work so I ate too much at lunch. I'll know better tomorrow though.

Well today went well. For snacks is it either or, or all choices? If I have nuts is that my snack or can I do nuts and yogurt? I was out much of the day so I had break, snack, lunch and then dinner. So far so good. Can someone look at this and tell me what you think:
Break: 1 cup lf cottage cheese, 1/2 cup cucumber
Snack: 5 nuts, 1cup ff van yogurt with cinno.
Lunch: Chicken ceasar salad with lots of veggies and tea
Dinner: Taco Bake (which was yum but now I have heartburn)
