Default June Exercise is Bustin' Out All Over!!!

Welcome!

...To the June exercise thread! We're trying to make exercise a habit and give ourselves some accountability!

In this thread, we're setting the number of MINUTES we want to exercise for the month -- whether it's walking or swimming or housework!

We're also tracking how many minutes we have exercised as a group!

Please first post your goals and then add your minutes (for yourself and the group) and get some support and accountability!

If you want to join us during the month -- GREAT! Just let us know how many minutes you want to exercise in what's left of the month!

Also, we are working on our 100K challenge -- how quickly can we make it to 100,000 minutes of exercise. So far, we are over halfway there!!!! (But don't worry, I'll track those numbers separately...)

Here's where we stand so far on that challenge:
January: 9418 minutes
February: 11,129 minutes
March: 15,917 minutes
April: 10,700 minutes
May: 16,091 minutes

TOTAL thru May: 63,255 minutes!!!

Whooo! Been waiting for this! I just got over the 1,200 minutes mark this month...so you know what? I'm going to aim BIG. I'll try for 1,200 minutes in June! Why not, right? The pool is open, it's been gorgeous out, so I think I'll definately be able to do it!

Let's do it, girls!!!!

Kayley -- You are doing so great on the exercise! Way to go!

I haven't set my goal yet, but I am going to set it higher than May -- with only one class to teach and fewer other responsibilities, I should have time...

Since I will have to stop exercising on the 19th, I will make my goal through June 18th 700 minutes. That is about 40 minutes per day. It really is weird - for the first time in my life I am upset that someone is telling me I can't exercise. Before I would have seen it as the perfect excuse to not feel guilty about not doing something I felt I should be doing but wasn’t.

Ooops! I found it!!! I just posted over in the May thread that I couldn't find the sign ups for June. I was looking for a "sticky" thread. Anyway, I'm in. As I said over there, I'm going for 10 minutes a day, so that's 300 minutes for me. I'm starting small, I know. But I also know how I can be and I don't want to aim too high and then miss my mark and be disappointed, y'know? You can see, I've done the same on my goal weight, I went for 250lbs. I just like starting with small goals.

Alright, so what are the rules? What days do I post my minutes, do I list how many minutes doing a particular exercise? Thanks for the help.

Welcome, nightowl! I started small too, and I've just been building. If you look over on the may thread, you'll see how it goes. Most people list what they did and for how long and then add their minutes to the group total. Most of the time I think we do it that day, but lots of times people add multiple days at a time...

Other than that, there aren't really any rules. I think many of us have our own rules about what we count as exercise and what we don't, but that's a personal choice.

We often use each other for support too! It's been great for my accountability -- I have a hard time getting in the exercise otherwise!

Oh! Once June starts, the moderator (thinkthinker) will sticky the thread so its easy to find. Right now, May is stickied.

Now that it is summer I can commit to an exercise program.
I use swimming as my main form of exercise.
I have swam an average of 45 minutes to an hour each day for about two weeks now. so for May I have about 700 minutes. I actually have more... but that is what I am positive about.

In June I will aim for an hour 5 days a week. I may do them in half hour segments. That is a total of 300 minutes per week.... or 1,200 minutes for the month. Is that right ??? I will come in at least once a week and report my progress. I doubt if I will be here daily. Monday is my WW meeting so I will probably post on Monday night or Tuesday morning.

I am going to increase my June goal to 650 from my May goal of 600. I actually did 650 minutes in May (plus whatever I may do tomorrow). Part of my being able to do that was a golf outing which netted me 2 hours of walking and that is not something I will not repeat. However, I am also taking a week off of work for "me" time the first week in June and so should really be able to get some consistent exercise in then to make up for the golf outing in May.

Looking forward to June exericse! Thanks, as always, Wyllen for coordinating this thread! It had really helped me to start to get back on track with the exercise!

Okay. I am gonna do it this time. I didn't make my May goal because of a back injury. I was short 95 minutes. So. I will make my June goal the same as May so hopefully I will accomplish it for the first time. I am shooting for 400 minutes for June. I can do this!

Look at us going and increasing our goals -- though we haven't heard from a lot of people yet! Where's my girl Valerie? Zelma? What happened to Brenda? brandnewme? Maria Lucia, where are you? Sue, Cyn, Melissa, toofatforu??? Who else did I miss?? Comeon people! June's here! Let's set some goals!

I'm tempted to set a huge goal for June, but I'm going to be more realistic. For the past two months set set goals that average 30 minutes a day. With the nice weather and my (hopefully) less hectic June schedule, I'm going to increase that by 20% -- so rather than 900 min for 30 days, 1080. And then I'll round up to 1100 to make it even!

How I plan to meet the goal:
- lots of walking -- on the treadmill, with the dogs, around "town" -- but only counting when my pedometer tracks "aerobic" minutes (10 minutes straight)

- weight lifting. In May I went 1-2x/week to the gym to lift. I'd like to up that to 2-3x/week. I might increase the number of machines I use.

- bike riding! I just got a new bike. I only live 2 miles from work, so I'm hoping I can use it to go to and from work some days, as well as "around"

- back/ab exercises. I started doing abs separate from the machine at the gym, which I hate. I need to do back exercises anyway. Hopefully I'll get this in a couple times a week.

I might get some other exercise in, but these should be the main forms.

35 minutes of Cardio at 6 am this morning before work!

How does this work? Is the group total 35? Or is the total continuous over the months?

I'm here, wyellen!

Well, I fell 100 mins short last month - a couple of days of really tight deadlines, and having our air conditioning not work bit me.

And I'm only going to take one water aerobics course this session - I'm getting some pains in my wrists, and 20 minutes of wrist and hand work (while lunging across the pool) isn't helping, so I'm going to try some different things.

But at least 30 mins a day - 900, hmm, I think I can do 1000 this month. I came really close last month.

Okay, we've got some new folks who started things off! Add your minutes to the group total as we go!

Group total ~ Dusty 35 +toofatforu 70 + wyllenn 40 (walk and bike ride) = 145 minutes!!

And we're off!
