I'm definitely sick - I'm losing my voice - it's pretty funny when I try to call to the girls. "What Mommy? What did you say?" Anyway, I stayed home from church today with youngest dd (Ainsley, 19 months) and we cleaned and organized my sewing room. Not exactly restful on the body, but definitely nice for my mind. I love having my room clean and in order, and I hadn't gotten to it since Christmas time.
So then I noticed I was out of skim milk, so made a quick trip to the store, with the express purpose of getting milk and junk food to soothe myself. And pathetically, I only managed to come away with the snack-size bags of full fat microwave popcorn! I walked past all the candy bars, the chips, and everything else. They barely even tempted me because I kept thinking about how they'd make my stomach hurt, or fill me up too much. If that isn't lifestyle change, I don't know what is! Pre-Core, I would have gotten a piece of cheesecake, a candy bar, some chocolate milk, and maybe a little baggie of chips too.
Anyway, tonight I plan on watching TV (or maybe a DVD if the Oscars are too boring ), eating my small bag of popcorn and enjoying it.
I hope everyone who's aching gets to feeling better,
Angela
Froufy - I never heard of WW rounding up or down. My meeting they tell you like it is., whether it's 1.2 or 1.8, I guess it goes in 2's, but I would definitely want the exact number. Somehow 1.2 sounds a little better than 1, and I wouldn't want them telling me 2 lbs. if it was only 1.6. I don't know, just my opinion. I'll ask at my next meeting, but I have a girlfriend who goes to meetings in another town, and they always give the exact number without rounding.
Oh, I forgot. Did 3 minutes of an ab workout yesterday. Basically hold your dumbells, mine are 2 lbs. , Stand with your feet apart and lean to the left and then to the right, and I am so sore today, I can't wait to see if I can move tomorrow. oh, yeah, had some of these today
Not sure how I feel about the rounding up and down - but thanks for the comments - will see how it goes in the coming weeks!
I am now feeling crippled and can't walk well at all - just like baby steps...and going up and down the stairs (just when I lift my left leg) is pretty painful!
Also very hungry again??? Not sure what is going on? Maybe the pain or meds?
Really need my comfort foods so had some French toast for dinner! What a change!
Today I ate: some raw cabbage, grapes, popcorn, 2 chicken thighs, decaf nonfat cappucino, fruit salad, 2 slices french toast (1 egg, skim milk, margarine), lf sour cream, and 2 bites of ds' Crunchie bar!!! How's that for non-core eating??? Going to plug this into fitday to see how many calories I've consumed - hopefully this might make me feel better?
Lisa - way to go on the abs workout - guess you are noticing muscles you didn't know you had!
Angela - you are quite the Core Princess - wow I am truly impressed with your fortitude in passing up all the non-core junk food and "splurging" on the popcorn - enjoy it!
Dh and youngest ds are now folding the laundry to help me out as I can't stand for too long. Dh is planning to do some DDR shortly and we shall all congregate in the family room to cheer him on. I will try and stay put and not dance but it will be hard.
Planning to go to work tomorrow - hope I can hobble a bit - but leaving message at dr's office and can hopefully get in sometime tomorrow???
Not sure if I will be watching the Oscars or not?? I am really tired and should get to bed early!

Ugh. Last night, just before midnight, dd #2 (almost 4 years old) had a croup attack. She gets a few of these a year, and they're so scary! She was gasping to breathe, and throwing up because she couldn't, and because her fever was so high. Thankfully, the steamy bathroom helped enough that I didn't have to take her in to the ER. She still has a fever this morning, but is breathing pretty well. And dd #3 slept until 10:30 yesterday morning (about 2 1/2 hours late!) and dd #1 says her tummy hurts this morning. Yaaagh! I'm not sure my eating will be on plan today, because I feel pretty cruddy still too. I'm thinking we all finally have the flu. Usually we get hit with it in January, but it's late this year.
On a lighter note, when I weighed myself this morning, I finally broke into the 120's!! Of course, the needle was hovering between 129 and 130, but still! I have hopes that my weigh-in on Wednesday will be good, especially if AF will actually start - something it keeps threatening to do, and then doesn't.
one time I was house sitting and I heard a seal on the road outside. Now Vancouver is on the coast, but i wasnt that near a beach. It was 3 in the morning and there was this big lost seal on the road barking away. So I got up to investigate and what did I find.
A woman walking in the moist night air with her baby who had croup. I was disappointed that it wasnt a seal, but amazed that a little 20 lb item could make that kinda noise. Take care and sleep when you can.
Looks like a good day today. UP early got the washing in down in the apartment washers and working on my newsletter that goes out tomorrow.
Yes, croup is one of the scariest things, because it comes on so suddenly. You put them to bed, they're fine, and a few hours later, they're barking just like a seal, and they literally can't breathe. It's similar to an asthma attack, I think, except there's coughing and fever etc too. Annika (dd #2) has had croup many times - she's always been susceptible. In fact, last night's episode was so bad, today she has those little bruise things (don't know what they're called) all over her cheeks. Poor baby!
Oh Angela, your life sounds awful right now. Don't worry about your prorgram. Just worry about getting the kids and yourself well. One of the reasons that I chose not to have children was for the situation that you described. You know the really scary ones where it's hard to know what to do. I would have died to hear a child gasping for breath. Stay off the scale and take good care of yourself. Hope you are all through this illness soon. Please let us know how you are doing when you have a moment. I'm sure we'll all be thinking about you.
Frouf, this back thing really sounds serious. I hope you refrained from dancing last night since my guess is that it would aggravate your back. I'm hoping you get into the Dr. today. Try not to worry so much about your eating. One stress eater to another, I can tell you that you are probably hungry because you don't feel well. I have to be REALLY hungry or stressed before I lose my appetite.
Kierie, sorry you are hurting. My weather barometer attacks in my sinuses. I can tell when a storm is coming by that. I'd rather have my sinuses hurt than my hands! You will be giving us recipes for these dishes when your perfect them, won't you? I cook alot and quite well, but I have to have a recipe!
Lisa, I'm sure your "paid" for your kisses with your workout. I need to get some weight training going. My arms and other areas are going to be VERY flabby if I don't.
Kally, I think you should give Core at least a month. Just my humble opinion. I've been on it for 24 weeks and am very happy with my monthly totals, even though the week-to-week was strange.
Angela, I'm so sorry all your little ones are sick plus you too! Maybe DH can stay home from work and take care of all of you? I know ... not going to happen, right? Well, try to rest as much as you can and I hope y'all will all be in the bloom of good health before too long.
Froufie, I hope you're able to move today and will be able to get in to see the doctor so that you can get a plan of action or some medicine or both to handle the sciatica.
Kally, I'm glad your Monday is off to a good start! Lucky you ... to be in Vancouver. It's one of the places I plan to visit on our big West Coast vacation ... which is a long time away since DH and I both refuse to drive in California!
Kierie, your fruity breakfast cornbread sounds really tasty. I'm almost finished with the rhubarb apple crisp stuff I made last week so I'm ready for a new breakfast entree! I may give that a try.
My DH had to go into work early this morning, which translates into me having to come into work later than usual ... major drag since the traffic is so much more horrendous! But I'm proud of myself since I did my elliptical workout this morning before leaving for work. I knew it would be the last thing I would do after coping with the traffic this afternoon on the way home so I got it out of the way. One less thing to worry about, thank goodness! My eating is on track so far today too and I didn't do too badly with my eating this weekend. So I'm with Kally ... it's turning out to be a good Monday!
Oh Angela - you poor darling! - sending hugs your way! Hope you are all feeling better soon. Been there done that so I know how scary croup can be - first time was with the firstborn and he was 5 months old. Of course we completed freaked out the first time it happened - then we became savvy with the steamed up bathrooms and going outside. Not fun!
Deborah - kudos to you for getting that workout out of the way so early - bet that makes you feel great!
That fruit cornbread sounds good - might have to try it myself! (which cornbread recipe did you use Kierie?)
I am a hobbling slow moving Froufie today - got myself to work (2 advil which are barely doing anything for me). Warned everyone here I am CRANKY and in pain so watch out! Having my coffee and yogurt now (scale was up almost a lb today!). No I did not "dance" last night as I could barely walk! Definitely need some prescription meds to get this in check! Still waiting for call back from dr's office??? Should have heard from them by now!
My biggest fear is being ordered to bedrest - us froufs have lots of trouble staying in bed and not doing stuff around the house while we're there. I would be bored silly just lying around all day - and of course I am thinking how fat and lazy I will get and won't be able to eat anything cuz I'll be such a slug!
....and of course there's also that trip to Mexico waiting in the wings - dd asking about status - told her we're not going anywhere if I can't walk - she was like "what?....you can go in a wheelchair" - she has offered to push the wheelchair around - and we can get "priority seating" and pre-boarding on the airplane - what could be better than that??
Deborah, you asked about Trader Joe's. I know from a recent Wednesday night chat that Kathy and Angela don't have Trader Joe's in their areas. I LOVE TJ's and don't consider them to be too expensive for the quality product they have. Some of it is a trifle more expensive than the regular grocery store. They also carry things grocery stores don't carry. I regularly buy:
Frozen fruit with no sugar added. I love to have this in my freezer in case I run out of fresh. Also use in my Core Trife Recipe. I buy black cherry, berry blend, or blueberries. They have others.
Frozen veggies. I buy the asparagus and it is wonderful. They have all kinds including stir fry. I also buy the frozen garlic cubes. It has a bit of oil in it but I just count the points. Sometimes I just DON'T want to mess with fresh garlic or use the jarred.
I bought steel cut oats and also wonderful frozen brown rice that you cook in the microwave for 3 minutes. The rice has about 2 cups per bag. It's organic and turns out real moist and chewy.
Several tasty FF salad dressing. I buy WONDERFUL balamic vinegar. You can buy aged for 5, 10, or 15 years. I bought the 15 and it has a cork!
They have a HUGE selection of FF cheese and soy cheese. They have a FF Monterey Jalepeno that will knock your socks off.
This is definitely some place you should go take a stroll through. You won't believe the things you'll find.
UGH! So much to read, so little time -- my coworker is out sick today so it's more noticeable if I slack; I have no one to run interference for me! All questions are mine since I can't push people over to her!!
I'll try to jump back on later on, but dear Frouf! Take care of yourself!!
Hey I'm waiting for the snow to hit So I can go home! I have a low level fever and I'm wiped
for the Corn Bread I made the Core recipe with the ff sourcream and yogurt it's on the thread
I think it would be great doubled and make muffins (I was too lazy)
Angela Poor Dear you must feel like crap and the croup attacks sound taxing for you and annika! feel better hon
Vickie I was Just looking at the TJ website Dh and I have to make a pilgrimage!
Frouf I have been there hon hang in there and vacation wise remember you have to enjoy yourself too Altho you could lay by the pool sipping margaritas
