  • Yes, what she said!

Mine is an inflammed nerve, but sometimes I'm not sure it's always the sciatic nerve. After a few days, it clears up and then I get a viral oubreak (like shingles) at the end of the nerve, usually at the top of my leg. I have anti-virals that they give me to keep on hand when it happens, because it's pretty much a chronic thing.
  • hey there you all,

back from a fantastic shopping trip...spent way too much money, walked too much but get this, i did not overeat at all. i ate legally 95% of the time!! whoohoo!! but dd took me to starbucks and i ordered a grande sugar free vanilla non fat latte........how bad is that? does anyone know?? it was sooooo good. whenever i go there on my own i order a decaf, you know why? because all i have to say is decaf.....hahahha but dd goes to starbucks all the time at school and has it down to a science.

frouf, i am behind in my reading but i see you are suffering from a bad back? sciatic? please please be careful with that. i ended up in the hospital and they just doped me up and said you have a bad case of sciatica! well, i was not happy with that, because i wanted to know why i had this. something is causing it right.........i was there a week and got action when my dh said, i will drive her to toronto for a cat scan just get one ordered.......in the end i had a herniated disc and also discovered degenerative disc disease....sounds bad eh? well, if you read you will note that the ddd almost everyone will get as they grow old i just happen to have a bad case, so anyway, once we found the real reason for the sciatica we tried everything to avoid surgery. after 1 year, i was still on 20 pills a day and really not getting any better so i went back to the surgeon (after i lost bladder control----yep, pressing on the nerve so bad.....this can happen, beware) and he got me into surgery within 9 days of that appt..........at hamilton general....frouf you will know that in hamilton they have one of the bes medical schools, my surgeon taught there as well......so here i am today, on no pills except the odd tylenol 2 if i over do it.......so be be very very careful ok

i bought a new scale too. an official ww one that reads to the .1 ! the one at our meetings will read to the .2......get this, between this new scale and my old one it is 3 lbs out on me and 1 lb out on my husband........go figure, and it is not to the good either......i will compare it to the ww one at the meetings

i also bought some new tops. i did not want to buy new slacks until the size 12 fits...almost there! soon i hope

good weigh ins everyone! way to go

this is long, i better get off of here for now
  • Gosh, Froufie, that sciatica stuff sounds pretty serious ... make sure you take care of yourself. Frannie, sounds like it sure put you through the wringer so what a blessing that all is well today! Kathy and Angela, I'm glad y'all don't have ongoing problems with it!

Way to go on the 2 pounds, Froufie! And there's another dancer to applaud you for all the DDR activities!

Amanda, I hope you had a good WI today and Laurie, here's hoping your 1st WI is great for you next week!

Vickie, I'm so sorry about your nephew. It does sound as though the hospital has a totally nonchalant attitude and I can certainly understand why that would be so frustrating for you. I can't believe your nephew's wife and your sister aren't pitching a fit to get better care for him. I hope all works out well. Good job on staying completely Core last night ... I hope you had a pleasant evening with your friends. Take care of yourself and be careful with all the running around you're doing!

Nice lazy day for me today but I ate on plan ... a wonderful thing since I tend to stray during the weekends. It's supposed to be cooler and rainy all day tomorrow so I intend to borrow from all you wonderful cooks and concoct some sort of soup for my supper tomorrow night. We'll see how it turns out!

I did make this rhubarb dessert thing tonight, which is pretty scrumptious, if I do say so myself. The Core police would probably say it isn't 100% Core since I used 1/2 cup Fiber One cereal to make a makeshift pie crust but how bad can 1/2 cup of Fiber One REALLY be?
  • Well, those chicken strips and peanut butter fudge did me in. I only had a 3 lb loss...I know it would have been more if I hadn't eaten those things.

Yesterday was the wedding, and I was totally off plan. The closest to OP I got was breakfast..I had a smoothie. It was all downhill from there. Today is a new day, and time for me to get back on the wagon.

I'll have to post some pics of my SIL, she looked amazing yesterday.

I'll check back in later...its too early and I'm still braindead from yesterday.
  • Amanda, don't sweat it. I'm sure the extra loss will show up on next weeks WI. Three pounds is still great!

Vickie - hope your nephew gets out of the hospital soon. I'm sure he'll feel a lot better once he's home and in familiar territory.

Froufie - great loss for you too! Keep dancing, but be careful of your butt. I might have to get a DDR too. That treadmill can be so boring. I try to walk 30 minutes, but sometimes, I just can't take it. Read on the Oprah website, that her trainer says to play with the treadmill every 2 minutes. Increase the speed, play with the incline etc., more of a workout and less boring. Well, I tried that yesterday, and now my plantar fasciitis which I thought was getting better was really bad last night. I think it was from the incline. Only went up to 4%, but I guess that uphill thing affects your arch.

Frannie I hope your scale weighs in your favor. : I thought mine was pretty acurate, but who knows. I think it's a little heavier than WW, but DS was weighed at the Dr. yesterday and mine is light according to theirs. I think I need a new one.

Laurie - keeping our fingers crossed for your first WI.

Did I miss anyone? If I did, sorry. Congrats to everyone who WI - loss or not, at least you stayed strong and weighed anyway.

    BBL
    Lisa
  • Froufie, you amazing girlie! Congratulations on your 2 pound loss. 16 pounds gone forever. I hope you give that sciatica a rest. That's one reason I go so slow with any kind of exercise. I'm always afraid that I'm going to injure myself. My WW weighs in .2 increments and that's how they record it. Can you see the scale when they weigh you? Does it record in .2? If it does, then they should record it that way. Just my opinion anyway!

Frannie, great to see you! Glad you had so much fun shopping with your DD. I need some new slacks but I'm trying to hold off until Spring/Summer to shop in my closet. Jim told me not to wear the outfit again that I wore yesterday. He told me that 2 of my legs could fit in one leg of the pants now! Your Starbucks drink sounds yummy. I looked on the restaurant nutrition website that I have and couldn't find your exact drink. I found the Grande Skim Latte but not a sugar free version. The Grande Skim Latte was 3 points. I'm thinking that if yours had no sugar and skim milk then it was Core. Woo Hoo! I need a young person to help me get through Starbucks. I'd like to try something like what you have but am too intimidated by all the choices.

Deborah, sounds like you are having a nice restful weekend. I don't think there is anything wrong/illegal about your rhubarb pie. I'll bet that the cereal adds less than 1 point to a serving. I am very glad that there aren't any Core Police on this board. That's part of why I'm here. I don't need to be lectured I need help! I've never had rhubarb. I'm guessing it wouldn't be sweet enough for me since I add Splenda to just about everything!

Amanda, a three pound loss is amazing! You should not be disappointed. In my experience Core doesn't seem to produce those huge water weight losses that Flex sometimes produces. Stick with it and I'll bet you'll see consistent losses. The worst thing you could do is not get back on program.

Lisa, I hope your foot gets better soon. We are all so determined to lose but we need to be careful that we don't push too much. I do the same thing with my treadmill. It's a real cool one like yours where I can change the incline while I'm walking. So far I've only gone up .5 which isn't enough to bother me (at least so far)! Hubby told me he was up to 7.5 Geesh! Who can compete with that?

Thanks for all your well wishes for my Nephew. He's going to be calling the Insurance Company on Monday to see if they'll change their decision. They are making him stay in the hospital until the wound is closed. He's hooked up to some machine that removes the infection from his arm and pulls the wound closed. That and the IV antibiotics are keeping him in the hospital. It must be more expensive to send him home with the machine/IV than it is to keep him in the hospital. You know everything is a financial decision. I'll probably go visit him again on Tuesday.

Today is PJ day for me. I'm very tired. I'll go dig out that Mushroom Barley recipe now and type it in for you all.
  • Morning Ladies
It's chore day here for the moment at least we're goign to clean the kitchen and straighten up DH had a RC plane show yesterday so he bought some new toy components then he took me to the craft store and I have new scrapbookign toys
we had a BAD fridays experience food ok service was CRAPTASTIC what we expected to take an hour was an hour and 45 minutes never going back!
So cooking and some baking today for me
I think I'm goign to make that appleberry crisp but I had an idea and I'd love some input I'm going to make Core Cornbread and use it as the topping and make it kind of a cobbler? What do you think? I thought It might be more sliceable OR I'd just put the fruit in the mix and make muffins
I'm goign to make mini quiches and probably crustless pizza going to take some stuff out to thaw!
Frouf Speaking as chick with sciatica get a heat pack maybe one of those ones you nuke while it is a nerve issue it also agravates the surrounding muscles so if they're more relaxed you will be too
Vickie I'm sorry your nephew is stuck insurance GRR I'd love to have PJ DAY! can we have a party? videos and talk about boys lol
Amanda 3 pounds is nothing to sneeze at YOU DID GREAT
Lisa I hope it gets better
  • Welcome To The Sciatica Core Group!
Wow - seems to be a common ailment. Did some internet research and it is definitely sciatica - however this is not a diagnosis in itself, but a symptom, usually a herniated disc or degenerative disc or stenosis...etc. Looks like I am not in acute pain which is good - supposed to take anti-inflammatories and painkillers to deal with this. Heat and ice are good (I am hunting down my heating pad). Says most sciatica gets better in a few days to a FEW WEEKS!!!

Poor Frannie - sounds like u had a very bad case but glad to hear you are all better now! I think I will make a dr appt to check it out and maybe get a prescription for something stronger in case I should need it! Also found a site w/exercises for sciatica - but you need to know the "reason" for the sciatica as the exercises differ for each "diagnosis". Gee I was hoping I would be ordered to bed rest for a couple of weeks - ha ha ha - but instead it seems moving is better than sitting still for sciatica....oh well!

Amanda - CONGRATS ON YOUR GREAT LOSS - you should be thrilled - and as you know the rest will come off next week! Just hang in there. ...and I don't think weddings are generally "core"!

Kierie - please let us know how your cobbler or muffins turn out!!! Sounds pretty interesting!

Lisa - sorry to hear about your heel pain - OUCH! I have only so far gone up to a 2% incline and I do feel it a bit in my leg muscles!

Vickie - hope your nephew gets to go home - much better than being stuck in the hospital unless absolutely necessary!

So yesterday afternoon I have this FEEDING FRENZY GOING ON - anyone have this happen? Like I"m starving and can't get enuf food!!! So weird. Had lunch then had to drive dd to dance class at 3 - was a bit hungry so ate a hard boiled egg before I left figuring the protien would help. Well not to be. Ended up at the grocery store eating all their "free samples" Had a few cubes of havarti cheese, a couple of "toothpicks" of some kind of salami.....opened the nacho chips in the car and had about 5 of them, and also ate a fresh fig which I bought myself as a treat...got home had some more chips with salsa - then two slices of a hot multigrain baguette w/margarine!!!! Who needs supper? WOW

Off we go to our dinner party. At least I wasn't that hungry anymore There was veggies and dip to start. We also had this FABULOUS soup which I know was not core - seafood soup w/scallops shrimp, chicken broth but also 10% cream - it was really good. Main course was boneless/skinless chicken breast, white rice and green beans...left most of the rice ate the chicken and beans (pretty small portions) so that worked out well. Had about 1/2 glass of wine...no dessert (she was serving this amazingly rich dark chocolate cake w/ice cream and mini eclairs - piggy dh had two servings of EVERYTHING and wonders why the scale is up this morning?). I just had some decaf green tea for "dessert" as I was full (but not bloated).

This morning scale is same as yesterday morning so all should be fine! but it's 11 am and I"m starving and have not eaten yet so down to the kitchen I go!

...oh yes and tons of laundry to do as well!

    Later,

    Frouf
  • Frouf, mine is due to the DDD as well. I had the epidural steroid injection series a few years ago and it lasted maybe a year, but came back. It's no fun at all, as you know ... and mine is sorta here again but it's not hurting down my leg yet, just in my lower back. I didn't sleep last night but am going to the gym anyway this morning because they have an infrared sauna and it's supposed to help with pain.

Everyone have a great day! I'll be gone for the rest of the day between grocery shopping (tomorrow is the day we make lunches for the night shelter and so I have to buy all the stuff for 100 sack lunches!) ... lunch with BIL who is from east to west coast and has a stopover here ... grocery shopping for myself ... laundry, laundry, laundry (it's either do the stinkin' laundry or go to work naked tomorrow).

    Later!
  • Back on the computer - soup is simmering - chicken in the oven - decided not to make the moroccan chicken (even tho I have all the ingredients), cuz it involved too much "work" in the kitchen and frankly, standing for long periods of time is getting painful.

Threw the chicken thighs in the oven and found some low carb bbq sauce in the pantry (e.g. sugar free) so threw that in as well - hope the kids like it! Whole pan ful - like 20 or 25 thighs so should last a while?

Kathy - sorry to hear about your pain - but the sauna sounds like a great idea. Have fun at the gym and visiting w/your bil.

I want to do some DDR but not sure if this is a good idea or not? Don't want to aggravae the situation and will leave message at dr's office as I am pretty much hobbling round the house (NOT a pretty picture!).

Want to go to Starbucks today to get more coffee for work...and of course get a treat of decaf low fat cappuccino w/2 pumps sf vanilla syrup (very yummy! and counts as a dairy serving if you get the larger size). Will have to get dh to drive as I am pretty drugged up right now!

Weird eating today too?? Hopefully will settle down by dinnertime.

Also doing laundry - I dare not go in naked tomorrow Kathy - would empty the building! ha ha ha ha

    Frouf
  • One more thing! - thanks to eveyrone for their kinds wishes on my WI....still awaiting any comments you might have on the "rounding up and down issues"!!!!

    f.f.
  • My Hubby does the laundry every week. He's pretty darn good at it too. I'm a lucky girl!
  • My leader doesn't round up or down - I think the scale goes down to .2 increments. I would be really frustrated if they did round. Have you asked why they do it? Maybe you could get them to give you an exception, if you do want it more accurate. Although I can see why they round it - .2, .4 or even .6 pounds doesn't make a lot of difference in the big picture, but sometimes, it's all you've got!

    Angela
  • Kathy and Froufie, sorry you're both feeling pain today! Although it doesn't sound as though either of you are taking it very easy, hopefully you'll get the chance to rest later. Angela, hope you are also giving yourself a chance to rest (as much as a mom of 3 little ones can ) so that you can shake your cold. Good health vibes to everyone else. Lisa, I'm sorry your foot is bothering you. When I worked out at the gym, my feet would always kill me when I used the treadmill. I wonder if I have an ailment similar to yours? Have you ever seen those shoes called z-coils? I bought a pair (like an idiot ... since I never wear them ... and they are HUGELY expensive!) and they are supposed to cure all manner of foot ailments. You might want to check out their website and see if it's something you might be interested in. They are actually very comfortable so I don't know why I don't wear them ... maybe because I don't like to draw attention to myself and they are very noticeable! I actually prefer my Skechers ... they're the most comfortable sneakers I've ever worn. Okay, that's my advertising for the day!

Vickie, if you like tart things, rhubarb is wonderful! I mix it with Splenda and then with SF jello and it tastes so crisp and refreshing that I just love it! Of course, the cost is prohibitive here. It was about $2.50 when I first bought it (about 6 or 8 celery stalk sizes) and the next time I bought it last week it was $3.99 for just a stalk or two more! But I love the taste of it so much I'll buy it anyway. Apparently, in some places, you can buy it frozen with the vegetables but no such luck here. Have you tried the SF/FF lemon pudding mix, which is also new? I made some yesterday and it was delicious ... more flavorful than most of the SF/FF pudding mixes to me.

Froufie, since I weigh at home and my scale is not an expensive one, it only registers by the total pounds. I guess if your WW center follows the rule of rounding down at .4 and below and rounding up for .6 and above, it probably really does even out. I guess for the sake of accuracy they could write it down exactly as it appears on the scale but when you think that .2 of a pound is 3.2 ounces ... which could be the difference in a sweatshirt and a t-shirt ... maybe they think it is less stressful on the weigher to report whole pound losses. Just my thought. Probably if you asked them to write it down as it appears on the scale they would be happy to accommodate you.

Amanda, 3 pounds is a GREAT loss! Way to go!

Do any of you shop at the organic food stores you have in your area? I've seen a lot of posts on other boards about the wonderful things at Trader Joes and stores like that. We only have one really large health food store here and I've never been in it and just wondered if y'all enjoy shopping at stores like that. Are you able to find items you can't find anywhere else? I've been wanting to try quinoa but haven't located it anywhere. Are the prices about triple what you pay at the regular grocery store? Not that I should complain anyway ... since I'm the person who will pay $4.00 for 8 stalks of rhubarb!
  • hey there,

just took dd to owen sound for a ride the rest of the way to sudbury. reading week came to an end. 5 more weeks and she is done her 2nd year. while home, she applied and had 3 job interviews. 2 of the places offered her a job, one full time and the other 20 hours a week who will work around the full time job. YEAAAAA employment for the summer!!

Scales.....rounding up and down. To me I like the honesty of losing 1.2 lbs opposed to losing 1 lb or gaining 1.6 and not 2 lbs. I am guessing that it is rounded to the nearest pound because most scales at home are the normal weigh pound per pound and no increments of whatever sort. that is just my thoughts.

frouf--glad and happy to hear you are making a dr. appt. my surgeon told me if it hurts don't do it! such simple advice but so true! hope you get some relief real soon. i do some yoga stretches to help even now. i also took time off work to adjust to the meds that they put me on.......because i could not work in that condition and i hurt so much. unfortunately, i have a very weak stomach and some of the meds just curled it.....let us know how you make out.

vickie, hope your nephew makes out ok too. geezzzz, hospitals eh? you are a most supportive aunt.

amanda WOW 3lbs! Way to Go Girl!!

ok, everyone continue on having a great day! The dog wants out really really bad so i gotta run!
