Good Morning, All....

Happy Thursday to all, and to all a good....hmmmmm. Good evening? Good supper? Good whatever. I shall indeed post some pictures of dear little Turtle tonight when I get home. I took some pictures of him last night, but was too tired to download and send them along. Will tonight for sure. DH called when they got back from the vets, and lil' Turtle seems perfectly healthy, is flea-free (and what a blessing THAT is, since he's been up in bed with us every night, and last night kept nesting at the top of my pillow in my hair!!!!) I don't suppose he's a particularly unique or remarkable-looking little kitty - after all, they're ALL adorable at that age. But he's awfully sweet, purrs constantly, and is just a really friendly and entertaining little guy. He has definitely given us a lot of enjoyment already. He got his first shots, and is scheduled to go back for his next one in three weeks, I think DH said. Okay, enough about this little orphan cat. I think we can say with some authority now that he's no longer an orphan.

Karen3, the cannas are lilies, right? By all means, send us a picture if you can. Blueberries, incidentally, are really, really good for you - filled with antioxidents, so even if they held up your losing a few ounces, it might just be worth it!

PT, yep...our paths to svelteness are pretty divergent, aren't they? I sure have bene on - and succeeded at - loads of different plans. It's not the losing that's so danged difficult, it's KEEPING the pounds off that's really tough to do. But this time, I figure I haven't got another 20 or 30 years to bounce up and down, and I'd better get serious about maintenance once I've gotten down to where I want to be.

Lynn, you are a very caring person. I don't think I measure up very well, but listening to the things you do for others makes me want to try, at least.

Freda, yes, it really is about it just being "the way we eat" as opposed to being "on a diet". Being on a diet gets sooooo tiresome, but if it's just "the way we eat", it's no big deal. (Unless we splurge; then we tend to make THAT be a big deal, and we really shouldn't. We should just keep going the way we always do...until the next splurge. )!

Karen31, hello, and give Ginger and Sissy a scritch for me.

Hi Bobbi, our older catz scratched up some of my furniture to the point of my having to throw it out and get new. I have no delusions that Turtle will be any less destructive. He's soooo cute, tho...

Isabella, I hope all is well.

Rosey, it sure sounds like you're having a great time with your DD and DGD! And, yes, indeed, a year from now you will have had your surgery and be moving downwards in a hurry....and you're doing just fabulously now, so things couldn't be better for you!

Bye for now,

Z

Computer guy arrived around 1 this afternoon. Two hours and two hundred dollars later I had a working printer. Hopefully, it will keep running for a while.

Zoe, am anxious to see your new kitty. I think we are attracted to babies because of oversized eyes. I believe there has been research on this.

Working on my syllabus & course materials. Got a new curly haircut.

Check back tomorrow.

Good Morning, thought I'd pass on this recipe for fresh fruit soup. I haven't tried it yet but the jalaperios sound interesting. I'm going to start making some of the desserts for grandson's graduation party on sunday so will be busy the next 3 days. You all have a great week-end!
Summer Melon Soup

Description
This cool, refreshing soup captures the essence of summer. The addition of the jalapeños adds a surprising spark. Serve this soup with a cool entrée or as a pleasant dessert.

Ingredients
4 cups ripe cantaloupe, cut in 1-inch pieces (about 1 large melon, rind and seeds removed)
4 cups watermelon, cut in 1-inch pieces (rind and seeds removed)
Juice of 1 fresh lemon
1-2 teaspoons honey, liquefied (20 seconds in microwave)
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 fresh jalapeño peppers, seeded and finely minced
1/2 cup fresh blueberries

Instructions
1. Purée the cantaloupe and watermelon together in a food processor or blender. Add the lemon juice, honey, salt and jalapeños to taste. Chill for up to 4 hours.
2. Garnish with fresh blueberries and serve.

Good Morning, All.....
PT/Zoe, I'm in LOVE with Turtle!! Oh, my, what a cute kitty! And am I seeing blue eyes? Hmmm, a bit of Siamese there, which means he'll be vocal. Yes? My Siamese mix is a talker and an answerer! I love your kitten!! Are your others doing okay with him? He certainly doesn't look abused !

Rosey, I keep meaning to ask if you and your difficult DD resolved things? I hope so, because you sound happy! How are you doing with the food choices and the (eiuu, blech!) exercise program while they're all visiting?

Looks like rain today, but I was able to hang clothes out yesterday. Silly weather!

New goal: I figured out that I'll no longer be classified as obese in a mere 16#! It'll happen this summer...

All is well here. Hope you're all well, too.... have a lovely day (and weekend) and be safe!!

Hi Everyone,

Saw my skin doctor today – all good news – no problems with anything.

I have promised myself that if I do NOT get to 155 lbs by 7/4, I will go on NutriSystem D – the diabetic version of NS. I absolutely HATE the NS food. So, this is REALLY keeping me on the straight and narrow. I have just 3 more lbs to lose. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

ABSOLUTELY! We all know how to lose – it is keeping it off that’s the challenge. And, yes, we really do need to change our lives. As a rule, I have made MANY good changes regarding eating and exercising. However, it is the extended splurges that keep doing me in. I do just fine when I’m home alone – I don’t keep anything in the house to tempt me. It’s when I’m out, or on vacation that I get into trouble.
I LOVE your little Turtle – what a cutie. Enjoy! Be sure to keep us posted on his introduction to the other kitties.

Hi Donna,
Be sure to tell us when you hit that goal – we will have a celebration!

Good Morning.......just a quick Hi and bye!
Rosey...check out the pb2 site for recipes. They have an Asian recipe to serve over chops, chicken, etc. Very good! I'll post the one I use on raw veggies on Monday, after the graduation party.
Gotta get some more baking in today, I'm making the mini Tom Thumb donuts today. (Baked, from fried)
Have a great week-end.

Good Morning everyone,

It looks like it's going to rain, and indeed, the weather man is forcasting rain for the weekend. I hope it doesn't start untill after DGD's baseball game. The girls "all girls baseball team, age 7" have practiced really hard and learned a lot in such a short time.

Well, I finally put on my big girl panties and got on the scale this morning. I thought my eyes must be seeing wrong at first, but then I admitted I knew I had gained that much. I weigh 125. How can anyone gain that much in 6 weeks? I'll tell you how!! By burying yourself in bags of chips and corn chips and candy and anything else destructive you can think of. Not exercising and wallowing in self indulgence! And I have lost some, I can feel it and see it, so who knows how much I really gained! But I am well on my way to losing and doing quite well. I just hope the next time I am totally stressed I don't resort to food. Promise me someone will come up here and give me a swift kick. or a good talking to!

Z, turtle is a cuttie! They are so fun. Makes you wonder what kind of monster would just toss one out.

Got to run, have a great day!

Freda

Good morning, Everyone,

Today, I am making some “skinny squash soup,” Irish brown bread; and veggie juice. I MUST hit my 155 goal by 4th of July or I have to go on NutriSystem. This self-imposed threat is REALLY motivating me.

This afternoon is my genealogy club meeting.

Have a good day,

Lynn

Hi Rosey,
Sounds like a GREAT day! Enjoy your pb2 – I got some, but never used it & it passed expiration date.

Hi Bobbi,
You are my hero! I could NEVER do all that baking and refrain from eating it. I used to be the cookie-maker of the family. Once I found out I had diabetes, I stopped baking the cookies. Now, unless stuff is low-cal/low-carb, I don’t make it.

Good Morning, All...
I see by the weather site that the big scary thunder boomies that woke me out of a deep, deep sleep are headed ENE... VERY scary. I don't know how much rain we got, but the sky opened up and it just poured! There's something about the violence of Mama Nature that causes other things to pale... I'm so grateful to live here, though, where we don't have to worry about some of the awful things others have to worry about...

Anyway, I'll have to check out this pb2. I see mentions but, of course, don't remember what I read earlier (OldTimer's Disease). What caught my eye was the mention of an Asian recipe!

Oh, Freda, the cakes, cookies, chips, etc., all those things that taste SO good!, are such demonically-inspired bad things, yes? I always think "just one little baggie now, and I'll portion the sack to last a week"... ha! It's "oink, snarf, gobble" all the way to the end. I can't trust myself to have that stuff in the house; unlike our Bobbi, I have NO won't power, and I haven't had much success in cultivating it! I wish you well, my friend! You'll claw your way out of the abyss, I have great faith!

Nothing on the agenda. I'm taking my sister and "HotWheels Mama" out for lunch tomorrow to celebrate Granny's birthday. I haven't talked to her, but I'm sure she's been tearing up the streets, since she got her license renewed!

LOVE your kitty, PT! So sweet!

Have a lovely weekend, everyone! Be safe (and DRY!)

Good Morning,
We went to the BoomTown Days in Joplin yesterday and it was fantastic! Darryl Worley was there in concert and it was great! It was just $5 each to get in for all day long plus the concert!! He was on stage for an hour and a half then they had a fireworks display afterwards that lasted about 30 minutes. It was so neat!

I took some pictures of that Black Walnut tree yesterday. The 1st one is from outside the carport in the back yard. I had to open the door to see if I could get the picture. The second one is the bottom half of it and then the third is the top half. I told you it was huge!! The last guy said he thought it was about 75 feet tall! But I really won't miss having to scoop out walnuts from the pool everyday!!

I wanted to get this posted and I think we are going to go up to the "Square" in town---- they are having a free music festival all day today. It is supposed to be bluegrass/western/gospel with a little old rock n' roll thrown in. Should be fun and it keeps me on my feet and out of the kitchen! Yesterday I was on my feet from 5:00pm until we left the concert about 11:30pm!! Had a hot dog and a diet coke to eat and that was it!! PAT ON THE BACK!!! LOL!!!

Havea great Saturday!!!

Good morning, Everyone,

I never got to my cooking/baking yesterday so today I need to alternate between that and preparing for my course – begins on Tuesday.

REALLY hot and humid today – walking from car to gym felt like I was under water.

I am only 2 lbs away from my 4th of July goal – be at 155 lbs. I now have 21 days to lose that 2 lbs & be saved from the dreaded NutriSystem food. I could do an advertisement – “How NutriSystem helped me reach my weight goal.” Of course, they probably wouldn’t like the fact that it was fear of having to eat that stuff that motivated me.

Check back later,

Lynn

Hi Freda,
Certainly comes back faster than it goes off! Catch it now before it jumps back up. Just let us know what we can do to help.

Hi Donna,
I’m with you. I have NO will power. I lose by building habits and following them. I have learned what triggers me and I don’t have it in the house. Of course, is a lot easier when you live alone (except for my kitties). I don’t have to consider anyone but myself & I’m not tempted by cat food.
