Good Morning! Off to another busy day today. Fasting for the Health Fair at DH's workplace. Appt @ 9:30 but it's a 45 min drive so I'll make it quick.
Then @ 1m have a staffing meeting for my DM @ the NH. I went yesterday & found her pretty sedated. She fell asleep at the table while we were visiting & seemed like she was having some visual disturbances, probably from the increase in the medication that they did last week. I also have to bring her back to the surgeon tomorrow & the treatment nurse at the NH tells me that it doesn't look good. It was dressed so I didn't get to see it yet.
Eating yesterday was not 100% but I'm planning to give it my best shot again today. Got to run.
Hey all! I woke up this morning feeling much better..mood wise and headachewise! I think I did well yesterday, but still may have had a few too many starchy carbs, need to substitute fruit or veggie for snack then will be perfect! I drank a v8 a few minutes ago with some lowfat cheese to tide me over till lunch, so maybe that will be better.
Bob- I think I read somewhere that if your congestion is throat level or above, you are OK to exercise slowly. Throat downward, take a few days off to rest!
Melf- I am trying to be a little better today too!
Princess-Here in Georgia we are having crazy weather too. There was a dusting of snow this morning, but will be in the 60's tomorrow!
Monet- Hope your day gets better soon!
Teensy- Is Buddy your dog? Mine is a "Buddy" too. He loves to go for walks with us and give his nose a workout!
Munch- I love my beandip! I usually make it to feed several. You can use refried beans, but I just run a can or two of pintos through the processor, add a little low fat cream cheese and half a pack of taco seasoning. Spread in a dish and top with a layer of low fat cheddar and put under the broiler till chese melts. Top with low fat or fat free sour cream, green onions and chopped tomatoes. Normally eat with tortillas, but I use triscuits. I just brought a small amount in a microwave safe dish and a few triscuits to work so I can't cheat and have too much. I ate some of the dip with my spoon and made the crackers last. I know it has lots of fiber and I think protein too and counts as a veggie?
Cindy- Yes my day yesterday FINALLY got better. But it was a late one, with dance and band practice after school, so we ate our hamburgers around 7pm! We were starving! But I only cooked four, one for each of us, so no seconds!
Hello to all I missed and welcome to our newbies! Have a great day!
hi ladies, sorry, i know i am a horrible poster.......
so the inevitable has happened, i went home last night and pigged out. i ate on program, lol, but i ATE. felt gross and bloated after, ate 500 calories over my limit.
okay, heres what amazed me the most though. i still didnt eat what my body burns in a day. i wasnt over enough to eat more than i burned. so now i am wondering truthfully, HOW MUCH WAS I EATING BEFORE TO GET ME TO THIS POINT? what an eye opening experience. i dont think i realized how much food i was actually consuming in a day, and what junk it was........
My goodness we have so many posts. It is great. I hope it lasts.
We got a dusting of snow here. Schools were delayed and other closed. The roads were just wet. That's the kind of snow I like. Only on the grass.
It was 60 here yesterday and 48 today and snow and will be 60 tomorrow. Strange weather. Maybe there is something to this global warming theory.
Luckily, we had legal food at the meeting last night. She had Hoppin John soup. Sausage, rice, beans, tomatoes and summer sausage. I'm sure it was white rice, but she only used 1/2 c and I only had about 3/4 cup of soup. I never noticed the rice. It was really good. I had 4 chicken wings and 4 pieces of cheese on triscuits. She had awesome iced brownies, but I just smelled them.
Hoping to get to the gym tonight if we don't have our Bunco Christmas dinner. I'll have to wait and see.
County, you must have sent that cold wind our way. We have snow today, but only on the grass. That's the kind of snow I like. Have a great day. You can get out there and walk, just keep your goal in mind and why you are doing this.
Toni, I nice warm fire sounds so good right now. It is cold here, but yesterday it was 60 and tomorrow is will be 60 again. This is strange January weather.
MJ40, welcome back. Glad you decided to join us. I would suggest changing the veggie chips with some fruit. They probably count as a starch and the fruit would be so much better for you. This is a great board. Just ask away. I'm also sick about the Colts loss.
BOB< glad you had a great day. I don't blame you for getting out of the dr office. In my opinion, I think I short walk will build up your strength and help your immune system. Maybe Munchermom can give her opinion, isn't she a trainer? I like your "story"
Rosanne, Your menu looks good, but I would add some fruit. One or 2 a day. Some tips: Journal, it really keeps you accountable, plan ahead, The biggest one: Don't cheat! Once you do, it becomes an easy habit. Good tip with the gum.
Cindy, the EFS is like a stair stepper/skiing machine. The arms move (if you want them to) and it looks like you are skiing. The first 5 minutes kill me, but I am pushing harder and harder.
Gator, more and more people are getting braces at middle age. I could use them (and a lot of other dental work), but never pursued it. Hope your mouth doesn't hurt today. I know you won't let that stop you.
Thin, beans are protein. So glad you are feeling better today.
Monet, Whew, reading your day wore me out. Sorry you slept so poorly. I'm sure you will be forgiven soon. Try not to let it get your down. I don't think a thread would work just because most people post here and don't h ave time to post elsewhere like the exercise board. I like posting in one place.
Munch, your menu looks good to me. See my post to Bob about short walks. Your opinion please.
Teensy, Yeah 4 days is a great start. You did this before, you just have to find that mindset. Oh the wonderful hot flashes. I had them for a while. The tamoxifen causes them, but went on Neurotin for my neuropathis, and they disapeared. Every once in awhile one appears in the night. There are some natural things you can take for them. Can't remember what right now.
Princess, we are having similar weather here, strange isn't it? have a great day.
Melf, sorry your DM is having so much trouble. Prayers for her recovery.
I was reading People magazine today at the PT session and It was the one about people losing weight. They had 10 people that had lost over 100-300 pounds. Their stories were great and their diets were varied. It was such a motiving article. I urge you to read it. Don't know ifyou can go on line and find it or not.
Hi all- quick reply re: walking for BOB (thank you, Solly...)
A slow-paced walk where you are not getting winded will not do any harm, unless you are having dizzy spells, or extreme trouble breathing with the bronchitis. (In which case you should be lying down!!!) It will feel good to get out in the fresh air. However, if you do go walking and start coughing or getting out of breath, just slow it down and rest. Rule of thumb- if you have respiratory illness that goes into your lungs- its best to take it easy on strenuous exercise, but if its just a cold- stuffy nose, etc- and you feel ok, (not dizzy) you can exercise carefully. Hope this helps- Just my 2 cents..
See everyone later when I have more time!!! Off to pick up dd from pre-K!
Wow an explosion of posts.... LOL.... Think I'm going to have to start posting twice a day! My DH was having a bad day at work so he came home. I was shocked to see him drive up. Hope he doesn't end up quitting his job. I'm going to worry till I find out tomorrow what happens. So say a little prayer for us here. I was supposed to go shopping with some friends today but just didn't feel like it after hubby came home so guess I'll piddle around the house today. B- was shredded wheat and bran cereal with fresh blueberries. L- chicken sand. with vegetables D- fish and broccoli. Sorry this is so short but just don't feel like typing anymore...
What a morning!! I hope the afternoon gets better.
I woke up a little late. Trav is gone, and I'm used to his alarm getting me up. The kids slept till 8!!! I jusmped up and fed them a small breakfast and got us all dressed. Selah decided to strip back down, so I dressed her again. Then we fought over which 'Pwincess shoes" to wear, because we couldn't find one of the red ones. Luckiliy, I found it in Jakes shopping cart that he pushes around all the time. What is with that boy and shoes?????
So we walk out the door and it's COLD!! It's been warm all week. Here we are getting in the car without jackets and the car is covered with Ice. SO I start the car, run in for jackets to throw over the kids and start scraping the windshield. Now it's 8:45. My water class starts at 9. SO I get in the car and at the endof the street I can't turn left because there are police cars blocking the bridge. SO I turn right allong with all of this traffic and had to go through Atlanta to get to 75 to go north. I didn't make it to the Y til 9:30 and it was PACKED.
I skipped water since it was 1/2 done anyway and did 30 minutes eliptical. Had 2 asthma atachs and had to use my inhaler. THen I took selah down for her swim class and I walked 2 miles around the track while she swam for 1/2 hour.
I was so iritated. All this after no class on monday b/c of MLK. GRRR!!!! At least I got some exercise in.
ANyway, we were sopposed to meet friends at an indoor park after that, but they called me while I was on the way there b/c the park is under construction. SO back home with a not happy Selah becasue she didn't go to the park. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
I think they are both taking a nap this afternoon and so am I!
Toni- I know that Travis doesn't liek his job or all of the travel. I get so stressed out when he decides to come home early or something. We certainly can't go through another job loss like last year.
Solly- You are so strong. I would have inhaled those brownies!!!
Jailene- Good for you for sticking to legal at least. I look at the junk I used to eat and I'm so amazed....
MElf- Pretty funny how your time was automatically changed to the smiley. Made me smiley....
Monet- (((HUGS))) I know how that sucks. I'm sure we all do. Jsut let it go as much as you can. A year form now you won't even remember it.
BTW- I like the menu board idea allot. I think I would be more likely to post what I am eating there. SO, my vote is YES
Good morning everyone. Thanks so much for the warm welcomes!!!
My first day went really well except that I think my jambalaya was too rich. Next time I’ll use chicken instead of the smoked sausage. It was good though! Nice and spicy!
My Louisiana folks will sympathize with me on this: we have a lunch seminar today and we are serving King Cake! There are 11 king cakes in my office right now. It smells like a bakery!! But I will forge ahead…
Today’s menu:
B: Cheese omelet with spinach and salsa
S: 28 almonds
L: turkey chili with 2% American cheese
D: Smothered pork chops, brown rice, brussel sprouts
Gator: Rex was wonderful in that game too! It was the defense that failed us! Who’d a thunk it?
Cindy: I will keep counting out my nuts! Lord knows I can’t just reach into the can – it will be gone. I really try to stay away from mindless eating.
Rosanne: The chewing gum idea is great. I use sugarfree peppermints. They settle my stomach and stop me from wanting to eat.
BOB: Geaux Tigers! I am still getting used to this SEC world. I come from a Big Ten background. But football is awesome down here. I work for Southern University, so between our Southern Jaguars and our LSU Tigers, I am set!
Monet: I can totally empathize with your betrayal issues. I told someone something in confidence once and somehow the whole extended family found out. My name was mud for a while with that family member, so I understand the hurt, guilt, and depression that follows. Remember, something wonderful has already happened today…you are sharing this glorious day with your family, your students, and with us!
Muncher: Glad you are feeling great! It’s amazing that it works when we work it!
Teensy: Congrats on your four days!
Princess: Being a native of Chicago I totally feel you on the weather – if you don’t like it, just wait a minute!
Melf: I will keep you and your DM in my prayers. Hope all goes well!
ThinWithin: Good job on staying legal! Is V8 good? Is it legal? I am afraid to try it!
Jailene: I completely understand! When I was on weight watchers before, I calculated my points for a typical day and it was 60 points! I get 31 points a day for weight loss! Geez was I eating a lot if calories!
Solly: Thanks for the welcome. The veggie chips are baked onions. The ingredients are red onion, canola oil and salt. So they are a veggie!
Toni: I can relate to the husband and job issues. My DH ended up quitting his because of problems and it caused us a lot of stress for a long time. I hope he is able to resolve his issues. Good luck!
Anyone I missed, have a great day!
With peace and love,
MJ

I'm here at work, surfing the web, and I came across this site. Healthstatus.com they have a calorie calculator that you type in your weight and activity, and it tells you how many cals you burn. I don't know how accurate it is, but pretty cool!
Buddy and I went 2 full miles today!! Yeah.....now I hope to be back up to my full three by the time I can walk every day. As crazy as our weather has been, that may be awhile!! Today I am taking down and putting away all of my snowmen figurines. Time to get cleaned up again.......
B-- Small orange, Lite 85 yogurt
Snack--Apple
L-- 1/2 grapefruit, burger patty, veggies and dip.
D--Ribs with dinner salad and broccoli.
Well, time to get busy for me.....the day is half over and I haven't done anything yet.....
Monet-- We have had the weirdest winter this year.....started out very cold. Had a record amount of days below freezing, then when it warmed up, we have had nothing but rain for the past 3 weeks. So the snow was a surprise for sure. I would rather have snow on the ground and have the temp at 30 degrees than have the rain all the time. Guess that is why I don't live on the western side of the state!!
Thin-- Buddy is my Shar Pei mix. When we got him as a pup he was a black little ball of wrinkles. Now he has grown out of most of them, but is the smartest dog I have ever seen. He has a fast pace, so it is a challenge for me to keep up with him. Both my dogs love to go for walks, but my little girl is having a heck of a time lately. She has cancer, and is hanging in there far longer than her Vet thought she would!!
Solly-- You always make me feel so good, thank you for that. I am taking Primrose Oil capsules, and Black Cohosh. If you can think of anything else please let me know. It is miserable to say the least!! Today will be day 5, as I am getting very determined as each day OP is put behind me!! I feel so much better when I eat right and exercise. Thank God, that I pretty much kept up with the exercise or I would really be miserable.
MJ40-- Welcome to Sugar Busters! Sounds like you are doing great! I haven't tasted the King Cakes, but have heard about them here on this board. You can do it.....take something legal with you to eat while they are eating their cake. Where did you find the veggie chips??
Country-- Maybe that is it. I try not to over eat at lunch. So maybe I am not eating enough to keep me full until dinner. I am going to get back into entering my food into Fit Day again. Will let you know. Thanks for all the support, you are great.
I went to the store on my lunch break and was looking at bacon ( I saw that some folks had that listed for their breakfast) but I can not find any that is not at the very least cured in sugar. Any suggestions or name brands I can look for?
Yogurt: even the light yogurt that says it is SF has like 14 sugar grams in it... is it just plain lowfat yogurt that we should use and then add our own fruit?
Veggie chips: I saw that some one had them listed on their menu and was wondering were they found them at?
Princess- The sugar grams you see in yogurt are the natural milk sugars. Totally ok, as long as the ingredient list does not include sugar (or corn syrup, etc). The same applies to a can of tomatoes, for example. There may be no added sugar, but it will list like 6 grams of sugar- all that is natural. I have easily made my own yogurt though, from regular milk and added fruit - yummmmmmmy!!
On the bacon question- unfortunately I use our local store brand (Wegmans) and I know that it is only in our area. Try Canadian Bacon, perhaps? That is yummy!!
