  • Good news, even with the stress I've been under, I've had 3 days straight of 100% OP!! Not even a snack between meals!

Thank you all for your kind & encouraging words regarding my DM & the difficult situation I've been going through. You just don't know how much it meant to me to read your responses.

It was a little difficult to make the transition, but I went pack up her things in Gueydan & she was in the lobby, so didn't see what I was doing until I started putting things in the car. She started crying when she saw me but it was because she wanted to go in the car. She didn't seem to notice that everything was packed up. My DN thay works there & I both had a good cry before we left.

We got to Kaplan about 3:30 & she let the aides walk her to the unit but about 15 min later I could hear her crying. It took about 30 min to calm her down but in the meantime they gave her a pain pill for her leg & we sat in her room while they redressed her bobo. She calmed down, we went to the dinner room where I left her to go finish the paper work while she ate.

When I came back she had eaten about half her food then put her head down on the table but she was quiet. I finished feeding her, walked her to her room, got her ready for bed & she went right to sleep.

I just called the nurse & she told me that Mom slept all night, ate all her breakfast & has been sitting in her chair in her room. I'll be going to visit with her as soon as I get my car back. DH is working today so I'll go spend the afternoon with her.
  • Good morning
We had the nicest day at mom's yesterday. Mom found the neatest sprouts. They were a combination of broccoli, clover and mustard. They had so much flavor. I was very suprised and happy that they were a bit on the spicy side. They would make a great addition to a salad or sandwich. We also tried some new cheese. Not legal but I barely sampled. It was a lemon Chilton(sp). Very unique. I prefer savory over sweet cheese but it was neat to try something different from the norm.

I appreciate each of you ladies and what you bring to this board. It's a blessing to know other people that have similiar struggles and triumphs with weight and life. My extended family still thinks I'm a nut for weighing and journaling my food. What I eat and don't eat. Each of you is in my prayers. I hope you have an OP weekend and if you do have that little treat I hope you jump right back on the wagon.

    Love and hugs,
    Crystle
  • Hey everyone! I have a stiff neck today, and it is really bothering me. I spent over an hour already laying on the heating pad, but it is not helping much.

I finished my knitted ball last night. I need to go get some stuffing for it today, and finish sewing up the seams.

Breakfast was chicken salad and some ry-krisp crackers, and espresso.

COUNTRY: I grow my own sprouts. I like the radish sprouts a lot, as they have a nice bite to them. I tried growing mustard, but they did not do well at all. You can buy all kinds of unusual sprouting seeds to sprout in a jar from Johnny's Seeds. They look expensive, but keep in mind a pound is about two cups and you only use one tablespoon at a time! I have broccoli sprouting in a large mason jar on the dining room table right now! I have two kinds of radish, and even wheat. I go in spurts...and recently started back again. They are SO good on sandwiches!

MELF: Sounds like your mother is doing better already. She probably wanted to run away from the old place because she knew they were treating her badly. Bless her...

CINDY: I felt sorry for your brother reading your post. I think that avoidance approach is very common in our society. It is NOT healthy though. When he finally faces up to it, its going to be even more difficult.

Ok, I have got to go get some stuff done around here, and I am moving rather slowly....

  • Hi all-happy Saturday!! I am home with my 4 yr old while my hubby takes my 7 yr old to the dr. She is still sick. We were up all night on and off with her. She was having these really weird dizzy spells. She would wake up out of a sound sleep screaming that everything was going fast and she could hear sounds in her ears. I asked her what type of sounds and she described it as really loud- like a motorcycle. SOOO strange. And scary. So- off to the dr she goes. 1 pm was the earliest they could see her. She seemed to be ok all day today- not real hungry, but no dizzy spells at least. Anyone ever heard of anything like this???

Well- the weekend is always such a struggle for me eating-wise!! At work yesterday, one of the instructors came in and brought me a (yipes!!) Iced cappucino. (Loaded with sugar!!). I felt obligated to drink it since she was staring at me!! At least it wasn't huge. The good news is that after the first 4 or so sips, it tasted WAY too sweet and I didn't want anymore- so I poured some of it out (sneakily). I also felt REAL sick to my stomach after that and almost threw up!! I guess my body is saying NO MORE SUGAR!!! Which is good coming from me- nothing was ever "too sweet" before!!

Today I have been trying to be careful about what I am eating, but man is it hard on weekends- why do I feel so hungry?? Not craving anything, just hungry. Might be all in my head- weekends were ususally pigging out opportunities. I am determined to ride it out- I really want a loss this week- I will cry if I don't!!! (BOOHOO>>>>>>>>>)

OK- I am going to do replies later. Need to get busy....... HUGS, MUNCH
  • Passing through...
Hi all. Doing a quick drive by posting...

MUNCH: If she was having the spells while laying down, it sounds like vertigo. You know, where the room is spinning like when you've had to much to drink? It could be an inner ear problem. I had it before and it is scary, even for a grownup!

MELF: I am so happy your mom seems to be calm about her new surroundings. I wish her the best!

COUNTRY: Why is the cheese not legal?

To everyone else, happy happy day!
  • Munch--That's neat about your body starting to reject sugar. All the natural foods taste so much better now, don't they.

Melf--Such a sweet story about your mom. I hope she has a blessed time in her new place.

Last night we had so much fun taking my DS and her DH out to dinner for her 50th bday. We went to a place where they have entertainment out on the patio under the white lights they have strung over head, and under the unbrellas over the tables. We had 2!!! bottles of red wine and some Italian meat and cheeses with olives, and then a little bowl of pasta and some pizza. It probably was about 1 cup total of the pasta, which was, of course, cooked. It was penne pasta with tomato sauce and artichokes. Then had a bite of my DH's pizza. It was g-o-o-d. Haven't had pizza in ages. Maybe a year ago. Then we walked to a french restaurant and had tiny chocolate soufflés which were about the size of a 1/2 cup custard cup in diameter and about 1 1/2 " tall. The insides were oozing chocolate. I had a tiny (think "gourmet" scoop) scoop of vanilla ice cream and another glass of red wine. We had FUN!!! but I didn't need all that wine. One glass is enough for me and I have not been drinking wine very much because I don't want to spend my calories that way. Today I'm back on the wagon with shredded wheat 'n bran and fruit for breakfast and cold boiled shrimp with sauce for lunch. We are going over to a friends to watch the UF-UT bb game, so don't know what will be there. Probably plenty of junk.

BOB--Loved your jokes. We have the tendency in these parts to describe an FSU graduate as the clerks in those stories. Our big joke is:
What does an FSU graduate say to a UF graduate? Answer: "Do you want fries with that, sir?"

I have a french test I have to take today. Le professeur sent it to me par email. Alors, il faut que je le fasse maintenant. Au revoir à toutes. A bientôt.
  • Quick peek...
We just got in from a beautiful walk. It's about 60 degrees outside. The kids got a big kick out of the new pig tracks beside the road. We even found a little patch of hair.

MJ...it's a really sweet cheese. They add some sort of sweeteners to it. I've never tasted sweet cheese before except sweetened cream cheese.

Gator...It sounds just wonderful. I'm so glad ya'll we able to have such a special night. Hope they have some not so junky junk for ya tonight.

Munch...praying for your daughter. Maybe she just has an ear infection. It seems like a little water on the ear might sound funny to a little girl. I think weekends are harder for me because there is more time to be bored. My routine is broken.

Monet...radish sprouts sound really good. I hope your neck feels better soon.

Melf....I hope you have a good visit this afternoon. ((hugzz)) You and your family are in my prayers.

    Love and hugs,
    Crystle
  • Hello all I took me over an hour to catch up on my readings. Just to let everyone know I am thinking of you all.
I do have a question about the hummus recipe, What is Sesame tahini and where do you get it????

Princess here is my homemade whole wheat bread recipe.

5 cups whole wheat bread flour
    2 tsp. salt
    2 cups water
2/3 cup nonfat dried milk powder
    1/2 cup nonfat plain yogurt
    1 Tbsp. active dry yeast.

Mix together whole wheat flour and salt in a bowl. Set aside. In saucepan whisk together water and milk powder. Stir in the yogurt. Using an instant-read thermometer, heat mixture to 80 degrees over low heat.
Place all ingredients in a bread machine following the manufactures guidelines. Bake using the whole wheat cycle and 1 1/2 lb.
    Makes 1 1/2 lb loaf.

    This is very good.

Also I buy the Gualtney bacon in green package. Very good.
The yogurt I purchase is Blue Bunney Carb Freedom. It has usually around 5 gm of sugar.

Well better run, Gotta go clean house.

  • We just got in from having dinner with a young couple from church. She eats like Sugarbusters, so the food was all legal. We had roasted chicken, sliced, baked sweet potatoes, collards (I made them, from our garden!) and whole wheat homemade rolls. The pear tart for dessert was made with all legal ingredients except a tiny bit of honey. It was not very sweet at all...just delicious pear and a touch of cinnamon. We did drink some homemade wine while there too. I had maybe two glasses. All in all, it was not so bad! I hope the rain holds off so I can walk some of it off tomorrow!

COUNTRY: I think you must mean Lemon Stilton. We get it here sometimes. It tastes sweet, but I don't know if, or how much sugar they might add. Its good on Carr's Whole Wheat crackers though!

HUGCRYSTAL: I get sesame tahini at the health food store (Whole Foods) or at the Middle Eastern grocery store. Its basically ground sesame seeds, or sesame butter. I think you might find it in a store that carries a good selection of international stuff.
  • It's a lazy, depressing morning here in Georgia. Misting rain for what seems like days will do that to you I guess! We will be going to FIL and MIL house today to celebrate his birthday so another challenge to stay legal!
I have found by weighing the last couple of days, that I weigh less in the late morning or early afternoon. I think it isdue to my med with a diuretic in it that I take early morning. So, I may use that weight for my ticker. We'll see what happens tomorrow!
  • Hey everyone! I had eggs benedict for breakfast with some grapes and two cups of espresso. I am being lazy today. I slept with a heating pad on my neck all night and my stiff neck was a bit better today, but not significantly. My throat is sore, and I feel rather tired. I may take a nap. I am knitting a dishcloth, and a new ball. I think I will do the whole ball soft yellow and make it into a chick or a duckling. I want to make TOYS! The last one turned out fine...its just too big! I think it is suitable for a 3 to 5 year old.

As THIN said, its a dreary day here in Georgia. Gray and moist. I kind of miss the sunshine...a LOT.

    I will check in later!

  • AFTERNOON EVERY BUDDY!!

I'm being lazy and I do mean lazy. I didn't drag my big arse out of the bed until 11:40 a.m. I stayed up really late watching movies...SPEAKING OF...

WES CRAVEN'S: REDEYE EXCELLENT MOVIE...I had been reading about this particular contribution by him and was curious. It was billed "NOT YOUR EVERYDAY WES CRAVEN" and they were right. I'm not a fan of HORROR movies and this isn't...don't miss this one!!

THE CONSTANT GARDENER...Couldn't get interested, but I think I just wasn't in the mood for this type of movie. I'll definately get it again and give it another whirl!

LADIES IN LAVENDER...TERRIBLE MOVIE...and I love JUDI DENCH AND MAGGIE SMITH. It just wasn't up to their acting ability

I'm FINALLY getting around to doing laundry. Now I've caused myself to be stuck inside all afternoon

Did anyone catch THE MISS AMERICA PADGENT??? I was so angry, our TV book said it didn't come on until 9p.m. and when I turned over, they were already to the 10 finalists! The SOUTH was represented very well in the 10 and then the 5. ALTHOUGH..I thought MS VIRGINIA was out of her element.
    ATLANTIC CITY IT'S NOT!!

I'm off to get some things done...

  • Bobbitt Family Update

In a recent TV news broadcast, it was announced that Lorena Bobbitt's sister Louella was arrested for an alleged attempt to perform the same act on her husband as her famous sister had done several years ago. Sources reveal the sister was not as accurate as Lorena.

She allegedly missed the target and stabbed her husband in the upper thigh causing severe muscle and tendon damage. The husband is reported to be in serious, but stable condition, and Louella has been charged with .
