Question questions from a newbie

Good afternoon. I just picked up a copy of SB at my library and have read the technical aspects of the plan. I have a couple of questions:

** Monet, you mentioned that the jogging helps your glucose level, but I must have missed this portion in the book. How does exercise affect glucose and are you measuring for diabetes?

**This one is for anyone: How long has it taken you to shed what you have lost? I'm in no big hurry because I'd rather dh and I lose it slowly. Have you been keeping measurements of your inches or just the poundage?

Thanks for your information,
Caryn

CARYN: Welcome to our little corner of cyberspace! We are glad to have you! We have some big losers on here, so I will let them tell you about their losses. I am not a great example. I have metabolic syndrome and have recently been diagnosed as diabetic. Yes, I do monitor my glucose levels using a glucose meter. I can test before and after exercise and see EXACTLY what I burn off in glucose, but it doesn't necessarily mean I see a correlating weight loss. In fact, my metabolic syndrome makes it extremely difficult for me to lose anything. I have too much insulin, and while it is not doing the job of regulating blood sugar levels, it is doing an overly fine job of storing extra energy as fat. In fact, it stores first, and supplies energy for the cells only when it feels like it.
I probably ought to re-read my book, but if exercise is NOT mentioned, let me say that it SHOULD be. I am amazed at what it does for blood glucose levels. Because the idea behind Sugarbusters is to regulate blood sugar, and insulin levels by eating low glycemic foods, it just makes sense to get in exercise. It will help speed weight loss, and help keep you fit and energetic. It will also help keep insulin sensitivity on a cellular level. How I wish I had understood just HOW important it was two or three years ago, when I still had a chance to keep the diabetes label at bay. I knew my risks, but did not behave as well as I should have, and now I have no one to blame but myself.
Sugarbusters is not necessarily a fast diet, but it sure is a healthy one. I personally think it is the best out there. If we can be of any help, please don't hesitate to ask.

As always, I will let y'all know how they are!!!

BOB'S HEALTH: Went to the GYN to ride the silver saddle on THursday morning. She found a growth that has to be first biopsy'd and then schedule surgery to have it removed. It's an Outpatient procedure, but still scary! FINGERS CROSSED PLEASE!!!!

AND.....she sent me to my Medical Doc on the way back to work. Changed my PAXIL to PROZAC because of all the weight I gained in the last year...BUT...there is good news in this....I'VE LOST 10 LBS!!! Don't ask me where, but I told him that I noticed that I had lost weight since I was at his office a month ago...he wanted me to weigh on the same scales and when I got my large butt up there, sure nuff....10lbs!!! GONE!!!

NEXT....I now have bone spurs on the bottom of my right heel!!! Can't hardly walk at times, and then other times...pain free...Hmmmmmmm!!!

ANOTHER THING...CHOLESTEROL....down almost 10points!!! Triglycerides...DOWN almost 50points!!! LIVER...fine shape...glucose up just a little, but he said that would come down too!!!

OH...and BEFORE I FORGET...my GYN put me on hormones..one called ACTIVELLA..JACKIE...she said she would monitor me very close..she's aware of my Maternal GM dying from the dreaded breast disease..I even told her that I have a friend who would personally come down here and kick her arse if she didn't monitor me like she should!!! My GYN is a very COOL Doc...she herself has lost almost 100lbs on BODY FOR LIFE since I saw her last year! She offers this program at her office and she does the counseling. She wants me to think about it, but it's very expensive $150 the first visit...$65 every two weeks PLUS supplements, Phentermine and a B12 shot (once a week)...I told my Medical Doc about this and he said a big OH NO YOU'RE NOT...THAT'S TOO EXPENSIVE...you've got a good start going here and you can't take the Phentermine because of your blook pressure...I'll be the one to MONITOR YOU!!! So, I saluted him and said AYE AYE SIR!!! He's a cool one too!

So, There you have my last two days in a nut shell!!!!

THIN...

After reading MONET'S post about BREAD....Y'ALL MIGHT AS WELL LOCK MY BIG ARSE UP....Y'ALL KNOW HOW I LOVE BREAD!!!!

uummm...Yeah.. about bread... I made some banana oatmeal bread this afternoon that is fabulous! I made it with the ww flour I got yesterday, agave instead of sugar, and of course it has oatmeal in it. It has two bananas in the whole loaf and they were green tipped, but I don't know how that plays in the whole kneading and baking thing. I just think of it as there are only two in the whole loaf and I ate one small slice. I think it would be great as a breakfast bread or even as a french toast! I'll just monitor myself very carefully!

Um, surely you all knew that bread post was essentially a joke? Dinner tonight was refried beans, ground beef seasoned for tacos, some cheese, light sour cream, lettuce and a few olives. I passed on the taco shells and low carb tortillas. I feel pretty full. I am guessing it was the beans! I love how convenient it is to fix dry beans in the pressure cooker. I had them from start to finish in less than an hour.

BOB: Good going on the ten lost pounds! I am glad things look good. I am guessing the blood glucose levels were not too bad. Keep an eye on them..and be careful with what you eat! I don't get where they charge so much for that program. Body For Life by Bill Phillips is a program you can do on your own. Go buy the book! You don't want to take Phentermine. I did, and once I went off it, EVERY stinking pound came back! It was very frustrating. Another thing about it is that it stops working after a while, and it gets rather annoying. Keep us posted about the growth...I will be praying for an easy recovery for you.

THIN: Your bread sounds yummy! I bet the little bit of banana you get in each piece will not be bad. You don't want to over do it with bananas, but I firmly believe moderation is the key!

GOOD MID EVENING BUSTER'S!!!

MONET...I'm not going to do BODY FOR LIFE...was just telling you what she wanted me to do and what Dr Millin said I couldn't do! I've taken Phentermine too alone and the PHEN-PHEN combo...mine came back too! He said if he gave me a diet pill, it would be FASTIN...I think I've taken that one too...not too many out there that I haven't tried right on up to the BLACK BEAUTIES and DESOXGYN (*88% pure crystal speed I might add) BUT the best one I ever used was ESKATROL which was a timed released one..I don't think they make that one anymore..

I've got my chicken ready to grill, got salmon in the freezer and I'll get green beans to cook at the store tomorrow. I'll pick up a few avacados and some MATERS...Kate wants to cook some PORK RIBS and TURNIPS over the weekend so I'll get that for her and slap come cornbread in the oven. (she can heat that up in the nuke box)

Monet- I knew it was a joke. I laughed as I fed the kids Almond butter and jelly sandwiches for dinner yet again... THey're so over-breaded....

BOB- GREAT JOB ON THE LOSS!!!!!! I did the one that starts with L, LEptin? DIDn't do a thing for me and I shoudln't have been doing it. My sister had them fromher doc and didn't want them. STUPID!!!

So, I made a guessing game for my due date and baby lucas's size. Who want's to guess? I'm 35 weeks this weekend!!!

OK, I made a little game on this free website. You can go make a guess about when you thinhk LUcas will be born and how big he will be. Thought it would be fun to see who wins!! Just go to the link below to make your bid. I'm gonna have a prize for the winner. Seriously!!

http://expectnet.com/game.php

Enter game name LucasGaelen

Some info to help you guess...

SELAH'S STATS
12 days early
6lbs 2 oz
18 1/2 inches long

JACOB'S STATS
20 days early
7lbs 9oz
19 1/2 inches long

With Selah I deffinitely went into labor naturally. With Jacob it's a little debatable if it would have kept going, since they did the c-section so fast. This one is going to be a natural birth and I've had none of the problems or stress that I had with the others. MY gutt feeling is that this one will not come as early, but maybe you think I'm wrong? Now go make a guess!!!!!

The kids (ie the newlyweds) are having a garage sale today and tomorrow. They have already sold off over $100 worth of stuff...a wicker chair set, some gamecube games, lots of Laura's knife and sword collection, Barbie stuff... I even sold a recliner. I put a very small price on it to get rid of it. Now if the sofa will sell....

We met some neighbors we have never met before. We have both lived here at least ten years...so it was nice. She bought a bunch of books. yay!

Its HOT out there...even though the temps are mild the sun is very strong.

I am tired. I did not sleep really well last night and I would dearly love to take a nap long about now....

yes, Monet; I know you were kidding, BUT I have found that when I keep breads and starches less frequently, I lose better. I also LOVE bread, so it's hard for me to cut down. I use my breadmaker to make a dough with the ww flour and agave, then take it out and split into 10 sandwich rolls. Bake in the oven and freeze. The kids take them out and thaw in the microwave and make their sandwiches or hoagies for lunch, dh loves one with his dinner and I found that even when I ate one almost daily for lunch, I would still lose. The problem right now seems to be that I can't stop eating and I'm not getting out to walk, I think it's called STRESS! But I am going to get back to it as soon as Sean is OK and recovering! I also plan to have a yard sale in the next couple of weeks, my basement will thank me.

THIN...

It is totally stress. You're worried about Sean and that's understandable. You'll get back to normal once he's OK...We're here...just remember that!

Well, I got in the pool and water jogged...and managed to get my glucose levels down so low that I got hypoglycemia and the shakes real bad. I had to call Tom in to make me a sandwich...Ic could not manage it myself. As is the way with me, I over compensated, and now my glucose levels are too HIGH again....sheesh! I just can't win!

Laura and Justin finally called it a day and put all the garage sale stuff up. They made over $200 today, so they are happy. My sofa did not sell. Maybe tomorrow...

Tom and I are heading out to Costco in a few minutes. I need to get stuff, and he wants to run by Home Depot and get some things he needs. The walking around will help me some, I feel sure. Poor Tom spent too much time in the sun today and has gotten burned. What is so disgusting is tomorrow, he will be all brown, and not at all burned. Me? I would have blisters and be miserable.

Off to Costco!

Thanks so much to everyone for listening to me blab!! It is stressful, but Sean has it all figured out. He is going to hook up his Nintendo in the LR tomorrow and has a box of games ready. He has cleaned in his room the last couple of days and found all of his games. We will set him up on the couch so "the only reason he has to get up is to go to the bathroom!" I accused him of milking the situation, but that's OK! I will let him milk for at least a couple of days! Dad even got in on the act, we went out to eat for a friends birthday tonight and the boys went into Game Stop and picked a star wars game that they can play together. (BTW< he finally found the game he was looking for last week at another local store.) So we're off to grandmas tomorrow for chicken and ribs dinner and then it will be the big day! I will try to post at least a short message as soon as we get home! Thanks guys!

Back in from Costco...and we stopped at Home Depot and a new Farmer's Market we had not checked out yet. I got some veggies there, and found Mango Tang! Unfortunately, it was sweetened with aspartame...they had other sugar sweetened flavors though, like Strawberry, and Lime! I wish they had those here, but these are definitely for the Hispanic market. The labels were in Spanish with English 'subtitles'.

TALITHA: I made my guess.

THIN: Do check in and let us know how Sean is doing. I will be praying for him, and for YOU. I have had several experiences with my kids being operated on, or my husband...who had similar surgeries to what Sean is having done. My son had to have an inguinal hernia repair last year, and even though he was 27 at the time, I still felt that nervous feeling I am sure you are feeling a bit of.

Time for me to hit the hay! Night!
