Thanks again to everyone for all of the advise... I am trying to print it off or write it all down so that I can share it with my husband tonight.
I went to Prettyimpressivestuff.com and as far as I can tell it is no longer a valid site for SB! but thanks anyway. I will keep looking around and see what else is out there.
Oh wow look at all the posts!!! Did I really have one yesterday, its so far back LOL! We got a cold front in last night but no snow. The wind is blowing and my chimes outside are going crazy. I just put a big ole fat log on the fire so all is well. Now if I can get my laundry done I'll be a happy lady. I had a nice bowl of shedded wheat and bran with fresh blueberries on top with some skim milk for breakfast. I'm trying to get more fiber in my eating. Tonight we're having pizza on a whole wheat crust.
Talitha- There are sugar free tums at Wal Mart. I get them. They're orange flavored.
Monet- Do you think you could freeze part of the hummus? I would love to make some but I would be the only one eating it and it would make to much for me alone.
Bob- So sorry about that black eye!
Pancho- That a great idea about keeping turkey or beef patties around I need to do that so I have something quick when I forget to thaw something out.
Fruit- Will have to remember American Idol is on. I'm hooked on that show..
Princess- Welcome to the board. You'll get so much support here. SB is easy after you learn the plan....
Thin- Hope you feel better sometime today....
Rosanne- Welcome to you... And congrads on the weight loss...
Solly- No snow so you're safe but look for this cold front. The high's are in the 30's today...
CountryMom- Howdy to you.... Stay warm thats what I'm trying to do....
Guess I'd better get busy on the rest of the stuff I need to do today.... Everyone have a good day.....
Good morning everyone! I first joined this board at the beginning of November, and after being a certified lurker for the past couple of weeks, today is the day I begin the SB WOE!
I did a lot of thinking on whether to go with SB or Weight Watchers Core program. The thing that made me choose SB is the thought of making this a Way of Life. Although Core is a great program, I knew that I could not do it as a way of life because it allows me to eat things that I know I need to cut out (like white potatoes and corn) and it doesn't allow me to eat things I know are ok without "counting" (like nuts).
So here I am!
I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana but I was born and bred in Chicago. (A little depressed about my Bears right now!)
Today's menu:
B: About 1 cup of lowfat plain yogurt sweetened with agave and maple extract; 1 cup strawberries
S: 28 almonds (dangerous! I must make sure I keep counting them out and putting the rest away!!)
L: Black Bean and Chicken Soup [canned - Shelton's brand (ingredients: water, soaked black beans, tomatoes, chicken, onion, carrots, tomato paste, chicken broth, olive oil, sea salt, chili pepper, dried garlic, spices)]; 2 slices 2% American cheese
S: Crispy Delites red onion veggie chips
D: Brown rice jambalaya (Zatarains mix with my meat and veggie add ins) and garlic roasted brussel sprouts (Whole Foods)
I love this board and the wonderful, sisterly atmosphere you all seem to keep going in here! I am excited!
With peace and love,
MJ
264.5/264.5/235 (1st goal - wedding day weight from 7/8/00)
SB since 1/17/06
I had another GREAT DAY at work, but had to leave at 3:30 to go to the Doc. When I got there, the waiting room was packed with SICK PEOPLE (imagine that ) and I just made another appointment for next Monday. I don't want to get another bug when I'm this close to getting well!
PRINCESS...That's the site I wanted someone to post for you! There is so much good info on there..ARE YOU A COLTS FAN??? SOLLY and I both are...
SOLLY...Are you saying that the slow walking will help my bronchitis and the shortness of breath????
CRYSTAL....TIPPY is a tea cup Chihuahua..very tiny...It was very windy here today but not cold. The wind is supposed to blow in some rain later tonight and we are in bad need of that! STAY WARM!!
MONET...GOOD IDEA about the tips...can we post a link to PRETTYIMPRESSIVESTUFF.COM??? I now we're not supposed to put links in our posts, but if we do it in an information sticky that might be ok????
TALITHA...Sorry about the jeans...I can relate though...I'm completely out of my favorite jeans...
MISSY...I'll be tuned in to AI tonight as well! I LOVE THAT SHOW, and I think that NAT does too. Can't wait for the auditions tonight...they are always so funny! SIMON, PAULA and RANDY were on THE TONIGHT SHOW and they were plugging away!
I'm not forgetting everyone else, I'll be back. Kate is hungry and I've got to go fix supper...
I fixed Kate some roast beef with fat free gravy (but don't tell her!), a baked potato and some pinto beans with a slab of cornbread!
I had roast beef and gravy, green beans and some carrots for lunch and I'm not hungry yet...I'll probably have a grilled cheese with some microwaved bacon a little later.
TONI...I have laundry to do too..how bout I bring mine over, and we can sit by the fire and eat pizza while it's washing! Stay warm...
MJ...WELCOME!!! MISSY is from LA also...Y"all will have something in common...ARE YOU AN LSU FAN???? We have quite the FOOTBALL BUNCH here on the board. We're all SEC fans. I'm a TENNESSEE fan, MONET is a GA fan, SUSAN is an AUBURN fan, SOLLY a KY fan, GATOR a FLA fan, MISSY an LSU fan. We also have a new member who is an ALABAMA fan, so if you like football, you'll love this place in the fall! (I hope I didn't leave anyone out)
THIN....Hmmmmmmm....hamburgers...make that a cheeseburger and I'll drop by your house on the way to TONI'S
I think that's got everyone so I'll finish watching OPRAH ( I taped her)
SOLLY....I guess I could have said that Dungy sent me in to cover PEYTON on Sunday and that's how I got the black eyes!
Location: Spanish Fort, Al but moving to Tuscaloosa Al

Hello Ladies
What a yucky day here! Rain and too warm for January. At least the both the kids were in Preschool from 9-1. With DH traveling all the time it's the only break I get. So, Talitha, I know that blue feeling
Isn't today Tip Tues. WHERE ARE MY TIPS......I NEED SOME TIPS....GIMME SOME TIPS!!!!: Just kidding. I've got one that's old but worked for me today. My kids wanted cookies and I baked toll house choc chip swirls. Right before I stuck a piece of SF gum in my mouth. Have yet to eat a morsel of cookie (chewed the !@#% out of that gum too
Anyway I think it makes you stop and think because you have to take the gum out.) I also think since I have been on this plan since Thurs. I haven't eaten sugar so I don't crave it. Princess, that is an awesome benefit to this plan. One I didn't get on WW which brings me to ........
MJ40 WELCOME! should I say Welcome back? I like the benefit I just mentioned on SB. WW allows me a bite and I can't control myself. And all that counting..... Don't get me wrong, I've had lots of friends lose weight on WW. I think its healthy, just not my cup of tea. Also, I love when you guys post your menus.........Here's mine
B: canadian bacon, montery jack, egg on sourdough english muffin
L: late breakfast so just some Triscuits and Hummus
S: Peanuts. Very few Maybe a handful
D: I am making a ranch chicken dish I got off the SB board, some fresh green
and just a bite of a mashed sweet pot dish I found in a SB book, mainy something I'm hoping the little darlings will eat
Speaking of , have to feed them. I'll check in later tonight. Oh, add a glass of red wine to that above menu.
Ahh.. much better just working 8 hours. I feel human again. Had a pretty good day. I went yesterday to a local used book store to stock up on my reading material and found a book called the 90/10 diet which I decided to check out. So far its pretty basic dieting.
Hi Princess... Yup Im In Indiana also.. NE.
Thin- I was cranky too today. I think It was the weather here. Gray skies and rain all day long. Plus I find it very hard to get up after three days off.
Solly- what is the EFX machine at the gym?
Crystle- I LOVE your dog pic. That is SO cute. We are having some of that cold blast too. Its been a very weird January weather wise.
MJ- I hear you on the nuts. They can be very additicing.
Bob- nothing like going to the doctor and picking up a bug !
Rosanne- great Idea with the gum. I do that too. Helps. I have some right now matter of fact since Im feeling like snacking !
Well, Im off to finish my lunch for tomorrow and then settle in to watch AI!
Night all !
MJ--Welcome back. I feel for ya about the bears. We were pulling for them. Rex Grossman was a Gator and was doing great at QB in Chicago--when he wasn't injured. We were hoping that they would come through and he would get to the Super Bowl.
Good thinking about SB being a way of life. If we all just took that to heart and realized that we are on a road to good health, both for us and for our husbands and kids too. Fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, lean meats and watch those portions!!! Overeating has become the American way of life, and it has done a number on our population--high cholesterol, obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes are national worries. So, welcome to our journey, and we are all so glad you are on the road with us. We go astray every once in a while when we have a brain cramp, but generally we hang together on this way of eating.
Roseanne--Here's a tip: When tempted by chocolate chip cookies, chew gum instead. You did great, gal. Congratulations.
Hi Cindy, glad you had a good day. You must be pretty close to 199 now! Hope you are there. You have persevered so much. You deserve it.
Well, my braces are on!! They are the clear kind, but you can still see the one main wire across my top teeth. The bottom braces will be all metal and will be put on in a couple of months. So far my mouth does not ache. I am planning on ignoring it when that happens. I am too busy to let that bother me. I have taken ibuprophen a couple times today before having any aches, and may continue that tomorrow. However, my mouth feels like I have a junk yard full of stuff rubbing my lips. I feel like I have to stretch my top lip just to get my mouth closed. Apparently this feeling goes away after a few days.
Well, the dryer buzzer has gone off, so I have to run. We went out to eat tonight. It was delicious--a braces celebration, but not totally legal.
Breakfast_ Shredded wheat 'n bran with 1/2 nectarine, 3 strawberries and some blackberries, skimmed milk
Lunch--Large green salad with 3 oz. ham, some tomato, onion, 3 baby carrots, 1/4 Cup non-fat cottage cheese, 2 T. low cal dressing, 1/2 nectarine.
Dinner--1/2 caesar salad, no croutons, duck breast cooked medium rare with some delicious sauce (caramelized something, cooked cabbage (it was fabulous) and 1/2 of a small dessert (chocolate mousse and about 2 T. pomegranate sorbet. What was good about this restaurant is that the dinners were fairly small so that you were not stuffed or over-full when you left.
Gator-Rachel has braces, metal, all put on at the same time! She complained a little and took motrin for it. That first couple of weeks she went through some wax too! She is about halfway through her treatment and has yellow and pink bands right now!
I have a headache tonight, I guess I didn't eat as much today as my body is used to. That's a good thing! Just a question...I had a homemade bean dip today with a few triscuits. I know that counts as fiber, but is it also veggie and protein or just one or the other? It was really good and I have some left for tomorrow.
Evening everyone! Its been a very very busy day. I got my hair cut this morning and went to Hobby Lobby, then took James to work, came home and showered and got ready for school, tried to help Ruth and Laura find some paper work they needed in Tom's filing cabinet (horrors!), went to school, taught, came home for 15 minutes, went to a meeting at the church, then to dinner with Tom, back to drop him off for another meeting at the church, then got gas, went to Barnes and Noble, and Office Max, and came home. I barely got in the door and James called for a ride because it was raining and he did not want to walk in the rain. Got back with him, just in time to get chewed out by my daughter for something I did. Basically, it was my fault, but I had shared something confidential with a friend, who told her daughter, who happens to be a friend of my daughter..and she told her. So everyone is now mad at me, I feel betrayed and depressed, and oh so very very tired.
Someone suggested we have a weekly thread with our menus posted in it, for folks to easily find SB ok menus. What do you all think about that idea? Let me know!
MJ: Welcome back! I hope you find all the support and encouragement you need here to reach your goals. Its great that you recognize that you can't handle the corn and potatoes. I can't handle them either. I find even wheat can be a trigger food for me. I am sorry about the Bears. My brother in law used to always say, "there is always next year!"
ROSEANNE: You tell 'em! Seriously, we need someone to remind us on tip day, and stuff. We tend to just blither on and on and forget the 'specials'!
I need to crawl in bed and get some sleep before I have to teach all day tomorrow. I was supposed to do laundry but forgot. Oh well. I hope I can find something clean to wear tomorrow.
WOW! What a TON of postings! I KNOW I will not be able to get to everyone!!
Well, I know today is tip day, so I'm going to do a kind of encouragement/testimony to SB sort of thing here......
I'll start off by saying I have struggled with anxiety for the past 3 or so years. Little bit of social anxiety mixed with general overwhelmed feelings, etc. One of the recommendations for people like me is... you guessed it.... lay off the sugar. When I started SB a couple months ago, I felt MUCH less anxiousness within 2 weeks. Well, after "going crazy" at the holidays and eating lousy again, my anxxxiety was back with a vengeance. But, me being a bit daft sometimes didn't connect it. Until today- when after a couple weeks of being legal again, I am feeling GREAT! What a marked difference !!! Anyway- that is motivation enough for me to stick with it!!! OK. Thats my encouragement/good news (disguised as a tip... ) for today!!
OK- todays menu open for critique
B- 1 serving shredded wheat & bran, skim milk, grapes, couple spoonffuls lite cottage cheese
L- salad with lots of veggies, bit of feta cheese, tuna, and light dressing
small baked sweet potato with smart balance. 1 square 85% cocoa chocolate.
D- (LATE night at work- just got home at 10:00) protein shake with skim milk, whey protein powder and strawberries. 1 square 85% chocolate (had to have it...)
No snacks- have been trying to incorporate the Leptin eating that Monet does into my plan!
OK- shall I try replies???
Thin- How did your day go- any better? That bean dip sounds good- recipe???
Gator- my husband got his braces off last year- he had them on 3 years. In fact, he got them on the day my youngest was born! His teeth really needed it- it was braces or eventual dentures they said! It wasn't too bad for him once he got used to them being on. Good luck!!
Cindy- glad you are off overtime. Its so draining. (Good $, but draining...)
Roseanne- Hello!!! Yup- I did WW for a while and lost weight on it too- kept it off, but I got SOOOOOO sick of counting that I was about to go nuts. I knew I couldn't live like that. I can't see spending the rest of my life trying to figure out the points values of everything!!! Plus, in my humble opinion, it gave me the excuse to eat unhealthy things- (as long as I was in my points range right??) I love SB!!
BOB- I would've run from that dr's office too. One of the reasons I picked the peddiatric office for my kids is that they have separate sick and well entrances. How are you feeling, by the way??
MJ40- Welcome- I love this board and SB! Such awesome gals and such caring support here- like no other!!!
Toni- We are supposed to get 50 MPH wind tonite & tomorrow. Yuck. It rained all day here too. Wish I had a fire place
Country- how old is your house? I love old houses. Mine was built in 1910. Not a country home- we live in the city- but still has lots of history and charm- and lots of woodwork!!!
Solly- waiting for a treadmill- yuck!! Precisely why my husband needs to buy me one.
Talitha- I would love to see a pic of you and kids! (even NOT in your heels!!!) How is the ezekiel bread? I always see it and never got it.
Primcess- Welcome! A friend of ours was just diagnosed with Diabetes and her dr. recommended SB also. Eating this way is so healthy for everyone.
Monet- How are you? I am loving the Leptin Book.
OK- I am sure I missed someone..... I apologize in advance....its late and brain cells are few.
I just wanted to also do a big thank you again to all who keep asking about my mom and sending well wishes. It means so much (my mom had a pretty bad stroke right after Thanksgiving) You are all wonderful gals!!
Monet- I think I was busy blabbing as your post came in- take care of yourself and get some rest tomorrow if you can- sounds like a really stressful day. Trust is a funny thing- no matter how careful we are, sometimes people get hurt- I can't tell you how many times I have unintentionally done that. Don't beat yourself up- it happens, People DO get over it. Just takes time. HUGS- MUNCH
Well, I made it for 4 days now......hope that I have finally got all that crap out of my system. It just seems like that after going without sugar for the past 4 or 5 years, that when I get a little taste now, I just go crazy.....what is with that?? I am really trying.....just can't believe that I can cave in so easily now. I wouldn't have entertained the notion of letting anything with sugar enter my mouth before, so why now? I wonder if this menapausal stuff has anything to do with it?? I can go a couple of months without having a period, then I seem to have a couple in one month. When I am not having them, I have the dreaded hot flashes and night sweats like crazy. Seem I am up all night, tossing off the covers, then putting them back on. Guess that is as good as excuse as any, huh? It really is miserable to go through.
Yesterday's menu was 1/2 grapefruit and Lite 85 yogurt for breakfast
L-- We ate at the Golden Corral, and I stayed OP, Garden salad with bleu cheese dressing, roasted chicken, cauliflower & broccoli, pork slice and sf jello.
D-- 1 oz spicy peanuts and then later... blackberries with Splenda and 1/2 & 1/2.
Wasn't very hungry after our late lunch.
Today--
B-- 3 slices bacon, 1/2 grapefruit, Lite 85 yogurt.
snack--apple
L--Leftover walleye with tatar (homemade) veggies with dip.
snack--R S Pecan Delight....SF
D-- Ground beef patty with cheese, zucchini, and later... blackberries with Splenda and 1/2 & 1/2.
We got some snow last night, so my walking has been on hold. Am hoping to get to go up the hill tomorrow as it is supposed to be a dry day. The way some of these people drive on this county road, I am half afraid when there is a chance that I might slip and fall. But they plowed today, and it was warm enough that the snow was melting. So Buddy and I will give it a shot.
I see a couple of new faces.....I wish you all the greatest success. This is a great way of eating, and an even better support group!!
Morning. (notice I left off the good? it is not that great for me) I slept poorly. I dug around in my closet and came up with clothes to wear. I don't much care today what I wear as long as the head of school doesn't send me home to change!
That feeling of being betrayed invaded my dreams, and made me restless all night. I did sleep fairly well for part of the night. I already had a cup of espresso and I am afraid this is a two espresso or more morning. The temptation is to make a thermos of it and carry it to school. I am not exactly sure what I am going to do with my students today. Half finished the picture we were drawing last week, half did not. I need to come up with a plan. I may carry some stuff and set up a still life and make them draw it. Its a good thing I am able to fly by the seat of my pants in these situations. Perhaps it is a necessary trait for an art teacher...I don't know.
MUNCH: That is awesome! Its wonderful that laying off sugar helps and you can FEEL the difference. Hooray!
TEENSY: I hope you can resume your walking today. It is cold and rainy here, but I usually wear my pedometer at school and it is amazing how many steps I take a day! Some days, its at 7000! I am on my feet for six hours though.
Ok, my friends. Today is WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY. Its a day to share something wonderful about yourself, your life, whatever. I am not in a good frame of mind this morning to come up with a contribution, so I will write mine when I get home from school. Who knows? Maybe something wonderful will happen today. (and maybe not, but one has to have hope, right?) Behave yourselves! I will be back late this afternoon!
MIAs- Techwife, Aiyana, HugCrystal - there are more, but I need to get dressed here....
Well it is a cold and snowy day here in Indy, crazy weather for January but it is supposed to be in the 40's or 50's tomorrow so it is hard to know what to wear on a day to day basis. One day you are freezing and the next you don't need a coat... crazy!
Cindy: Glad to see another Hoosier here, NE Indiana is beautiful, only been there once on a Scouting trip up to the toboggan shoots in Pakagon (?sp) State Park but I found it to be a wonderful area. Do you have a Half Price Book Store up your way? We have a couple here in Indy, love them, I could spend a ton of money and time in them without even trying
BOB: Yup, I am a Colts fan but a bit of a disappointed one these days. My husband is a Bengels fan as he is from Ohio so there is not a lot of football cheer in our house lately.
Monet: A menu thread sounds great! So sorry to hear about your stress and troubles at home. Kids can be so trying at times. I have a 17 and a 21 year old... boy they can make you sprout gray hair in record time. Best wishes for a very happy and stress free day.
Muncher: So sorry to hear about your friend with diabetes, seems like you hear that more and more these days. Hopefully the SB! can help them to keep it in check and without having to take med's.
Menu from yesterday:
B: Uncle Sams wheat and flaxseed cearel and 1/2 grapefruit
S: 1/2 grapefruit
L: Turkey sandwith on WW bread with a slice of cheese, let, tom, mustard and a pickle.
S: Triscuits
D: Roast beef with sauted mushrooms, onions, cheese - asparagus and peas.
