Howdy all- One of my dear friends came over this morning and we spent a couple hours having tea and visiting. I really enjoyed it and it was good to get a visit in today because we're expecting snow tonight. EEEEKKKKK. Hope I don't get snowed in. I forgot about weighing this morning but maybe my subconsious did it on purpose. LOL!
Monet- I'll have to try and make a menu for this week. It would really help me I'm sure. Its so hard to figure out what to cook anyway. So it would all be done. Two lbs. is great..... A big congradulations.
Thin- I forgot my meds yesterday and I'm thinking that would show up on the scale to. You're so brave at least you got on the scale and you know you'll do better next weigh in.
Aiyana- Love your sign in name...... Its really pretty. Sorry you had teenage problems. I sure don't envy you. LOL...... It takes nerves of steel to raise kids up. Glad mine are grown.
Gatorgal- Woopie for the two lbs. this week... Way to go......
Solly- You did so great at the wedding. That is so little to have eaten. Maybe you need to get back on that water pill. I have to have mine or I blow up like a balloon. And of all things forgot them on Sunday.
Fruit- Oh my gosh (faint) 6 lbs. You must really be motivated now!!! Way to go girl....
CountryMom- Oh I'm getting a new puppy the end of Feb. He's just 3 weeks right now. He's a little boston terrier and I can't wait. I'm already buying stuff to spoil him rotten! Good luck on yours....
Talitha- Opps about the Y.... Darn I forgot so much stuff is closed today. Hope you're feeling good....
Munchermom- Good for you losing a lb. Heck thats a lb. of butter you lost....
Well I'm starving now so I'm off to make me a lean cusinene dinner for lunch......
We're back from our running around. The kids cholesterol has barely even moved . But they're not wanting to change or increase meds for now. He wants us to rein in the diet a little tighter and exercise more~retest in 3 months. They will check on their insulin then too. So if that's not motivation for us to get moving, I don't know what is!
After the visit we went to Harry's. I found the rice grits and crackers. I also got some brown rice cold cereal to try, fresh kiwis and strawberries, lettuce, cauliflower, and bok choy to try in stir fry. we'll try some new things this week.
Rachel has dance at 4pm, so after I take her, Sean and I will go for a walk if it is not raining. I'll post it if we go!
Oh, one other funny thing. We were discussing where to go for lunch today and neither of the kids wanted to go to McD's. It's gross they said! Wow! I'm impressed! We ended up at subway which I don't know if it's better, but lower fat for sure and I got wheat bread which at least has to be better than a greasy burger!
Good afternoon everyone! I took James to work, and then went to the grocery store. (grumble grumble) One hundred dollars later, I walked out. I ran into two people I know, and chatted with the bakery manager, who was supposed to come for Christmas dinner here, but did not because her daughter, who works with MY daughter, got sick. I got chicken breasts, since they were on sale and I needed them, and already cooked them in the pressure cooker to make chicken salad. After I posted this morning, I talked to my daughter, and they decided last night not to come because a few of the errands they needed to run today involved offices that were closed for MLK day. So now they are doing it tomorrow. But, I have to teach in the afternoon, so my luncheon date with my son in law was cancelled.
I got salad stuff at the store, and some deli chicken for my lunches. I also remembered to get frozen veggies, so at least now we have some variety! I even cleaned out the fridge some this morning. The best things I bought at the store though, were storage bins! They had them cheap and I got a few to pack up stuff - like all my yarn!
THIN: Exercise WILL help. My husband has naturally high cholesterol and refuses to take a statin drug. He lifts weights, runs, and eats really well. In addition he takes Slo Niacin, which helps lower his cholesterol. He is in fabulous shape, and the doctor pushed him to take the statin drugs over and over again. Finally they did a 'life test' on his heart, and it is totally clean, so the doctor backed off a bit. There really is no proof that the statin drugs will prevent heart attack anyway. All that to say, the exercise is really really important for healing insulin resistance, and high cholesterol.
TONI: Its ok to avoid the scale now and then, but don't make it a habit!! I am glad you had a nice visit with your friend. I love laid back mornings with a cup of coffee, or tea and a good conversation with a friend. Send that snow down here! I would love it!
MUNCH: I am sorry your mom is have a hard time of it. The negative thoughts don't help, but its hard not to be depressed. I hope and pray she finds something to feel upbeat about soon. I am sure it is awfully hard on you! You seem to be handling it really well. I would be gaining 10 pounds a week!
TALITHA: I can't believe the Y was closed today! That is crazy! When everyone is off is when they want to use it most. Poor Selah! I hope she got over the disappointment. Is this Friday market Friday???
COUNTRY: We had to post pone the double date until Thursday. Way to go on those three pounds! You are getting a new puppy? Did I read that right? One of those little lap dogs, like BOB's Tippy with the name I can pronounce but not spell???
FRUIT: Oh! Yeah! Way to go on that six!
SOLLY: You are absolutely right! Why not seven days? You did splendid at that wedding! Hope you can get to the gym three times this week. I bet it is crowded on Saturday mornings!
GATOR: Yep, we do have a lot in common. Sometimes is almost spooky! I wish we lived closer cause I know it would be a blast to hang out with you. Maybe we should meet in the middle sometime for a weekend.
AIYANA: Oh, I am SO with you on teens and the dilemnas they cause us. There were some days I could have cheerfully strangled each one of my offspring. Unfortunately, I STILL have those days! I hope your life is pleasant and free from teen attitude....
Well, I think I got everyone. If I missed you, be sure to let me know it! I am off to fill these storage bins with yarn!
I am new to SB and am looking for some support and information. Our doctor suggested Sugar Busters! to my husband so I have hoped on the band wagon also.
I have been on a ton of diets, won't bore you all with that very long list but I am excited about Sugar Busters. We got the book and have started reading, today is our first day on the program.
I have a quick question... the menus in the book say that basically you are limited to two snacks a day... is that correct? or can you have more then that?
Sorry I've been MIA. Had some major computer problems for a few days but I think I got it straightened up now. Of course I did some stress eating over that so the scale didn't show a loss for me this week but I AM back on track. Eating has been good today. Went to the gym & spent almost the whole morning there. Had a low carb protein drink when I left there & a salad when I got home a little while ago. Need to drink some H2O now cause I'm feeling kind of dry.
Sorry no relpies. Haven't read yet & it looks like a pretty hectic week so I may not get to post much but WILL check in.
Hi Munch--We all identify with you about putting on pounds easily and struggling to get them off. Monet and I have hypothyroid problems on top of weight problems, so it is a real struggle. However, this is the first of a new year, and this is a great time to just persevere and drop some pounds by the time Christmas comes around again. Nothin' but super highway till then, eating-wise. So we can do this!! Actually, a loss of one pound is very good. Re your double post, you can click "edit" at the bottom of your post and delete one of them very easily.
Fruit--Way to go!!!
OK, everyone. When you read Muncher's post, let that remind us all that a positive attitude and a non-complaining spirit will uplift everyone around you. My MIL was a wonderful woman who NEVER complained, even though she had her share of difficulties. But her sunny smile brought joy to everyone around her. I hope I will be remembered in the same way. Let this be an encouragement to do an attitude check and think about what your actions and attitudes are saying about you. What memories will your family have when you are no longer here. Munch--you are a trooper, and your Mom must have some very good qualities about her that have rubbed off on you. I'm sorry that life has dished out junk to you all right now, and hope she will be better soon.
Country--Congratulations on the 3 pounds. That is fabulous!
Solly--Ain't meds just the pits sometimes! Don't worry about this weekly MMM, but just keep your eyes on the goal that you WILL REACH! We all have weeks that we plateau or jump up a little. Maybe next week will be a big drop for you. Or your body is "regulating" after that big loss last week.
Hi Melf--Welcome back. We missed you girl.
Monet--Yep--we could have some real fun. Painting, cooking, eating, visiting, etc. When the Gators get to Atlanta we can get together again. Maybe this year.
Thin-I agree with Monet. Some of that cholesterol prob. is genetic from you and your husband, if you both have high cholesterol. But high cholesterol is something that is just a recent phenomenon in children. The healthier their lifestyle now, before they get off on their own, the easier they will have it as adults when they are responsible for their own health. I know that puts a lot of responsibility on you now, because as the food preparer and the food buyer and mom (the boss) you have that responsibility now of how they are eating for the most part. Diet is probably 90% of it, but the exercise is that other 10%. So, if they are eating lower fat meats, staying away from the greasy chips and fast foods, and are avoiding the trans fats that are in so many cookies and crackers and some cereals, (in many, many prepared foods, in fact), keeping away from cookies and cakes and all that processed sweet stuff, and learning to enjoy fresh fruits as a snack and eating their veggies, you will have done your job and they will be well on the way to a good test at the doctor's office. We wish you much luck and prayers, and know you all can do it.
Princess--Welcome to a very good board. Lots of info here. If someone (like me!) does not know the answer to your question, someone else will. This is a good group of people who are very supportive, and we are all like a close group of friends--even though, mostly, we have not seen each other.
Got my walk in,m and exercised with my trainer with weights. Today I go to the trainer who does the "Super Slow" and it is a ton of weight. It takes me only 20 minutes, but I can hardly walk when I finish, because my muscles have worked so hard. I am lifting 275 now with the leg press, down from about 300 about 6 months ago. I do the reps VERy VERY slowly, to a 10 count, almost barely moving the weight plate. It is HARD!!! I actually was brought to tears today on the leg press, I don't know why, something about it being almost scary and having to dig down so deep to make myself continue. It was weird. I did about 6 reps. Solly, I recommend weight lifting for you, and I hope you are doing it. I think you are, right?
I have French class tonight. I have been busy today--Went to 4 different hotels about 6 minutes from our house to get prices for out of town guests for the wedding in March. Prices from $150 to $79. Then finally found a place where I have a good selection of wedding arches for our patio for the wedding. I'll probably go tomorrow to select one. Tomorrow I get braces on my teeth!!!! I had lunch with my DH and DS after my workout. The gym is in the building downtown where they work and so we went to a restaurant there. I had a cup of chicken gumbo with rice--spicy--and a spinach salad with tenderloin tips on it. I have been feeling a little bit punky the past week, amost dizzy but not quite. I don't know what it is, but it might have been because I wasn't eating enough. So I am trying to up the calories this week. I hope that is what the prob. is.
Well, gotta go. I've written a book and hope y'all have not minded wading through it. Have a great day.

Reason: added stuff after I got to page 2
PRINCESS: We are glad you are here! Just jump right in and I hope you will find all the help, encouragement and support you need to reach your goals! This is a great bunch of losers! Some of them, I have known for years, and some are old friends just met! There is always room for one more! Now, in answer to your question, I will give you my OPINION. Some don't agree with me. I recently read a book called Mastering Leptin, by Byron Richards. In this book he described in detail how the metabolic processes work, and how they are interrelated and dependent on one another. He gave five rules for a good metabolism and one of them was NO SNACKS. This was news to me, but he explained why, and it just made sense. I stopped snacking, but was eating just as much if not more by eating larger meals at breakfast, lunch and dinner, and I lost weight. This was amazing since I am hypothyroid, and insulin resistant and really struggle to lose at all. Over the holidays, I slipped back into snacking, and I am back to really struggling. I am trying to phase out any snacks again. SO, my opinion is that the less snacking you do, the better. Eat three square meals with protein at breakfast to help stoke the metabolism for the day, and you should be good to go!
MELF: Sorry you had computer problems. Eating didn't help it did it? Why oh why do we think it will? You are not alone! I stress eat too, but I am trying to get away from that. It sure is a struggle. Check in when you can! We will miss you if you don't!
GATOR: Ain't that the truth?! I had a whiney aunt and a terrific, laughing, fun to be around aunt. Who is my favorite? Its a no brainer! EVERYONE loves her because she is always upbeat, positive and loving. I want to be like that too. I think I fail a lot, but it is something to strive for.
Monet- We just got back from a little 20 min. walk, but since this is the first time we've done it in several months, I think it felt good! Sean is on welchol now and they don't want to put him on anything like lipitor. Apparently this one does not enter the bloodstream so is better for him. In the beginning it upset his stomach because it works more in the digestive track. I forgot to mention that they also did a carotid ultrasound on both Sean and Rachel today and that looked good. I think they were looking for any kind of build up or abnormalties. I asked him about slo-niacin and he said we are not to that point yet, that was more of an adult thing.
Gator- I also have hypothyroid. They are still trying to figure out why Rachel still gains weight even tough she dances 7-8 hrs. per week. Maybe she needs to be retested. She was tested in September 05 I think. I don't know, maybe we'll get this sorted out before too long! My mom, sister, and dh dad is also hypo. You don't hear about it in many men.

Hello Everybody
The Good news is I lost 2lb since I started SB on Thursday. The bad news is I kinda blew the plan at lunch. The 2lb loss is especially good considering it is the day before TOM.
Today was MLK birthday so there was no preschool. I took Jake and Amelia to the Zoo and afterwards Jake wanted to go to the Mellow Mushroom for Pizza. I made it a veggie pizza and ask for the very very thin crust. I also took the opportunity to try some hummus. Isn't there a good SB recipie for that?
Hope so, my 5 year old like it, and he doesn't like anything
So that one meal is the only screwup I'll allow myself this week. I never get to go out and eat and even though I hate it was at the beginning I am not going to give up. I may get to go out once a month so I think I'm o.k.
Hope everyone has a good Monday!
Hello everyone and thanks for the warm welcome! Yes I'm a Tide fan. I grew up in Tuscaloosa and graduated from Bama in 1992 when I married a Big Ol Auburn fan and moved away. Now after almost 14 years I am moving back to T-town. I mostly root for Bama to annoy my husband who is die hard Auburn but I guess we remeber who was eating crow at that last Iorn bowl, don't we Fillise

Princess-I knew Monet would say that. She has encouraged us all to think about what we are putting into our mouths when we are really not hungry, but, instead, are trying to qwell some emotion. For me, I normally have 1 snack per day. I usually have lunch about noon, and get hungry about 4, so have an apple or some fruit then. I DO NOT snack after dinner. The trick is to differentiate when you are physically hungry, and when you are emotionally hungry. The latter is when you fill up with something else: exercise, playing with your kids, prayer, reading, doing your hobby, volunteering, anything but eating. To often we use food to fill up when it is an emotional need that is "hungry" instead.
Thin--Welcome to the club whose "members" really don't want to be in the hypothy. club. We know that you will have to persevere. Hopefully your kids don't have it at this young age.
Had really good day at work today..Of course, the first thing I had to do a million times is explain about my BLACK EYES! I ran to my Eye Doc to get my glasses put back in shape. and they feel so much better now. I got to the Doc tomorrow for a follow up on my bronchitis, and when he sees my face he will die! BUT...gotta go
PRINCESS...WELCOME to our little corner of the board. You'll do fine on this WOE, but I suggest you not use the menus in the book just starting out. They are geared more to maintenance, although the book doesn't tell you that. There is a website that we refer everyone to that's just starting out, and I can't find it for the life of me, but I will direct one of the others to give it to you. GOOD LUCK!!!
MONET....WILL YOU GIVE PRINCESS THE WEBSITE ADDRESS????
How was your lunch? I've never had DIM SUM.. What did you eat?
I didn't walk today...I've been really short of breath today because of the congestion, and I don't think I'll be able to start my walking until that's subsided a lot more...hopefully by the end of the week I'll be better. THEN...YOU can keep on my arse every day about it!
ROSANNE...OH NO....a BAMA FAN!! This ought to get really interesting come Sept...well...OCT for me..(I'm the TENNESSEE FAN ) And when SUSAN see's that you're married to an AUBURN fan, it will really get heated up!
I absolutely LOVE THE MELLOW MUSHROOM!!! They have the best pizza ever! Just jump back in the wagon and get going...one slip won't kill you...and YES..there is a HUMMUS recipe somewhere...I make it, but I use TAHINI...Our ex-moderator makes it all the time and she taught me ( I use her recipe). I'll dig it out and give you the correct measurements...I just feel my way through when I make it...
HEY THIN!!
HEY TONI!!
HEY SOLLY!
HEY GATOR!
HEY MELF!!
Hope I didn't miss anyone with my HEYS...I've got to fix some supper....
A quiet Monday since it was a holiday, but it was nice. Miss Belle and I caught up on some stuff we had to do around the house.
Time to really get serious about my health. Dad's stroke and some problems I've been having (knees mostly) remind me that you can't take good health for granted and should do everything possible to maintain a healthy body. carring around over 100 lbs of excess fat is NOT healthy.
I only have time for a few replies.
Bob--You ought to make up some really good stories about those eyes--like Kate beat you up or Tippy got mad when you didn't feed him on time. . . Does BE tone the black eyes down any?
Roseanne--Welcome to the board and, yes, we remember who ate crow for the last FOUR Iron Bowls! Does DH have his "Fear the thumb" t-shirt yet???? Fortunatley crow is SB legal.
Gator--I loade up on fruit last week and have been using that as my snack material. Apples with peanut butter and tangerines are my faves!
Princess-Welcome! You will find lots of support and friendly advice on this board. We are glad to have you!
Monet--sorry your lunch and dinner with the kiddies got cancelled. You know with one SIL as a chef, and if you can get the other one to keep paying for your groceies, you'll be all set!
Solly--I hope you had a good long weekend.
Hug--I like this screen name better too!
Talitha--Yes--it's going to be ALL YOUR FAULT! Did you have an intense craving for seafood about 2:00 on Saturday afternoon?????
Missy--What a little sweetie! She is precious. WTG on your loss!!!
Hi all. Well, back to work tomorrow and no OT this week! YEAH! Im glad. DD and I just got back from a step class at a gym on the other side of town then wed I go to my normal one so Ill have 2 in this week along with my normal exercises.
I did the stupidest thing Saturday. We went to the mall and I went to my favorite clothing store and by then Dh was ready to go. So I said let me just run in and try on some jeans to see if I could find a few pair. So I grabbed a whole bunch of different styles and started trying them on and they were ALL to big. I was jumping for joy. I left and dh was like "well wheres your pants?" and I said they were all too big and I knew you wanted to leave so I didnt try on anymore. I get home and a couple of hours later I was like "DOH" I tried on 18s... and Im in 16's now. No wonder they were all big. Funny how we forget. I remember doing something similar when I was a 20 over a 24. Id go shopping and grab 24s everytime forgetting I was smaller. Now Im doing it again. What a good feeling though to have things too big than too small. Shopping used to depress me horribly. Now Im starting to like it again.
Not much new here. Went to my dbs yesterday for his birthday and I ate a few small bites of german choc cake. Blah didnt even taste good. I dont miss that stuff at all.

Hey guys!
First of all somebody tell me how to do that thing on the left side of your post with the pic or a pic of something. Let me know. Since I kinda blew it at lunch I just ate a few Triscuits with some Hummus for dinner. Wasn't that hungry after my veggie pizza.
Monet: I too went to the grocery tonight but I got out with $75. Maybe that's because I just went 3 days ago. I decided on some sourdough bagels instead of the new WG ones by Sara Lee since they had corn syrup down on the ingredient list.! Also bought some Canadian bacon so I'll be having a great breakfast with my muffin/cheese/can bacon/egg sandwich. NUM NUM!
Monet: Talk about your puter acting crazy. Did you see my double post with part of yesterday's post stuck into today? PLEEEEZZZZZ
Aiyana: Thank goodness my children are 2 & 5 and I have a ways to go before the teengage years! However, I still have those Margarita days (of course red wine is my choice) Don't worry about it
Princess: Welcome I just started a couple of days ago so we can be newbie's together. This is a great board. Keeps you in check and is really fun
Gator gal: Now I'm craving a spinach salad with steak tips on it. What kind of dressing did you use?
Fillise: No John doesn't have the fear the thumb. He does have the orange shirt that has the word CHOKE on the front in the Coke symbol and under it say's "Alabama's drink of choice." I swear he wears it every day!!
Looking forward to the tips tomorrow. Plan to make the rest of the week on plan
