Weight today 158 and waist is measuring 35 inches right on, or 89 cm. I am really pleased with that. I fasted well yesterday. I am not sure if I am up to doing alternate day fasting (ADF) very much right now though. I would like to lose but don't know if I can handle the ADF right now. It was really hard to do before the holidays. We will see this week. I have not really planned my eating today. I can't think about food and eating at all on fasting days.
We have pretty much cleared out all the holiday leftovers. There is still some beef from the roast, but its cut up and in the freezer, and a couple of sliced of the yule log. We can have all of that tonight. I can do a stir fry with the beef and having dessert is always nice. The yule log lasted well using the buttercream frosting, but I prefer using whipped cream instead, but it does not keep as well. The whipped cream is fine if there are many people and there is a good chance of it getting eaten up.
I am going to check last years posts and see where I was. Have a good day and a good start to the year friends.
Just looked back to my new year's post from last year. I was below 160 in mid December, but did not do well over the holidays, and was 161 at the New Year's post. So this year was a bit better.
I am also pleased about the waist measurement, as the weight does go up and down rather easily depending on the eating during a particular week, but the waist is slower to change, so I think this is good. My "goal" with the waist measurement is to have a non-fasted measurement of 32. That would be half my height, and also the same as DH waist (he wears a 32 x 32 for slacks) so that would be feel better. Still have the goal to get below 150 this winter. It is not so far away, and yet it is far off..... sigh. Blessings in the new year friends.

Reason: update
Carol Sue Sorry the casino wasn't so good, but you do very well most of the time and it is true you can't win all the time. Odds are next time will be better. Glad your DIL is feeling better. Sorry kids are having to go to school online. Personally, I would love it as a student, but kids do need the interaction. That is one thing my grands missed out on when I homeschooled them although I kept them busy with other kids as much as possible. Now they have gobs of things homeschoolers can do. They have football teams and almost everything regular school have. The one thing about homeschooling if done right is that they are usually a year ahead of regular schoolers. I was thrilled that when my grands decided to go to public school they were ahead of their class and fitted in nicely. I was told the teachers were impressed.
Fatmad Sounds like you have your goals set and now it is just working toward them. I have no doubt that you will do it. I am working toward that as well.
Yesterday wasn't my best eating day. I've decided that I have not done well with diet plans per se and as tempting as they are, I'm not going to follow any. I think the best examples of success stories from doctors are Dr. Fung and the Hellers. I have always been impressed with the fact that Rachel Heller learned she could eat what she wanted once a day and lose weight by accident. She had made an appointment for a fasting test for something early in the morning because she knew (thought) she couldn't fast. There was an emergency and when they called her they woke her and she agreed to the test moved to later in the day. So she had to fast and was surprised when she was able to do it. The biggest shock was later when she went out to eat for a big meal after the test and ate more than she should have. She expected to gain weight but was surprised the next day to see that she had actually lost. She decided to experiment and see what would happen if she did the same thing the next day. She always had something with her she could eat if she needed it but surprisingly she didn't need it. She lost her weight this way. She had not met her husband Richard until after she lost it and didn't know the science of it until they met and married and did the research.
When I read her store online, I was excited because I only ate breakfast etc because I thought I had too. That is when I started my journey to lose weight. I eventually wandered back into trying every diet in the book. Now here we are with all the scientific knowledge and succes s stories of Dr. Fung. There are so many benefits to fasting and I don't know if I can ever do any Extended Fasts or not, but I know I have done OMAD in the past and don't know why I think I can't do it any more. However, I woke up this morning and thought about my diet journey and I've decided to give it a try. I know I can at least fast until 3ish when we have our main meal. I haven't been doing very well not eating in the evening. Maybe that is because I stay up so late with DH now that I don't have to get up or not. So I will use the rule that Rachel Heller used. If I need something in the evening, I will eat something, but I don't have to eat anything in the evening if I don't need or want it.
My goal is to do better this year than last at losing this weight and losing it in a healthy way. I see a plan or way that just might be a better way to get there for me that has worked in the past. Like Rachel did, I have no rules about what I can or cannot have because knowing the concept of how the one hour reward meal rule works regarding my insulin, I don't have to watch carbs etc. I won't track because I probably won't reach 1000 calories very often. I can track in a notebook which I like knowing how some foods affect my FBG each day. If I had to put a name to my personal plan it is CAD/IF woe.
Sorry this is longer than usual. Have a nice day everybody and stay safe and warm.

I slept well. I tried to get away from taking the Tylenol Arthritis at bed time. I put 2 on my nightstand with my bottle of water in case I wake up and need it. If I had to get up to get it I'd be wide awake. Fitbit shows much better sleep when I take it. Maybe I will try taking one.
I snuck a peek at the scale. Back down to 189 but I'm not surprised because I believe the 192 was a bump up from the sodium in the ham and also the sauerkraut on New Years. I'm glad I lost that and can start where I was originaly..
The trip to Wal-Mart was my exercise for the day. Back and forth from grocery to pharmacy and also to paper products.. It was crowded but better stocked than normal for a Monday. We went to Bob Evans for breakfast so my eating window opened at 10. No Goodwill. I was supposed to get milk but I forgot. . DH usually gets the milk. We each are assigned to get certain things. We have enough milk for now and can get it locally.
Yesterday I called Wal-Mart for a renewal and they had to contact my doctor. I figured today. Here, they called last night and said it was ready for pick up! I don't know how they contacted him on Sunday. Maybe he checks in for messages. I didn't need that med for another week.
I'm going to do measurements today and save them on Fitday. I have them there from the past, 10 years or so. Not much change. I don't expect my waist to go down because of my surgery incisions. But some others are doing measurements on the challenge so I will too.
Today has been amazingly easy. I hope it will continue to be this way since I am in the process of changing back to my normal woe. Looks like this is going to end up being a OMAD. The roast beef was good and a balanced meal and I haven't been hungy since. Hopefully I won't have to eat until we get home from the store and pharmacy tomorrow which should give me my 1st 23 to 24 hr fast. Strange how this makes me feel empowered.
Hope everyone has had a good day and we all have a good nights sleep.

Trish, that's great that you did so well today! I knew you would get back on track.
I have to tell you this funny story. When we went to Bob Evans for breakfast DH ordered blueberry pancakes topped with blueberries in syrup. He went on and on about how good it was. I couldn't touch that with that syrup! He said "Blueberries are healthy!" Not with all that sugar!! But he was happy and said he will order it again. I guess there will be many Bob Evans breakfasts in my future. that
Carol Sue I think because of the years of the Lowfat crazed woe people thought sugar was not a problem. My DH won't eat certain fat but he doesn't realize he gets it other places... cheese, milk, McDs fries etc. But he never thought about the sugar because no one in his family had diabetes. So he thought he wouldn't have it either. I remember when I was first diagnosed, the doctor was my parents and sisters doctor. The first thing he said to me was "No one in your immediate family has this". The funny thing is Mama had 2 sisters that were T2 and her Mother's brother had it. People have funny ideas.
Weight back down to 184 today but FBG was 106. Maybe I'm dumping glucose. I found a couple of new fasting groups on FB and joined. Thought it might help with more info from those who do this. I will continue fast until we eat main meal today. We are going to Sam's and then back to local grocery to get DH med and hopefully we can get the second shingle vaccine. DH had planned to double back and go get KFC but he found a new Chinese place across from the store so we are getting Chinese for main meal today. We lost the one we had during the pandemic and the local store who owned the property tore down the whole shopping buildings that were mostly empty. I keep hoping they will build us a nice big stoe like their others there. It is supposed to be in the future plans but no news as to when.
Anyway, I am going to work at doing as many 23 hr OMAD fasts as possible and make the other days 2MAD within 4 hr eating window. I will stick with the OMAD as long as I can to get myself into the fasting mode so that hopefully when I move to the 2MAD I will be able to stick with it.
Hope everybody has a great day.

Trish, I edited your post where you said you were dumping insulin. You got that mixed up with glucose. Insulin would make your blood sugar go down. I am only clarifying this for the benefit of anyone who may be lurking.
I always said no one in my family had diabetes but my half sister and her children had it. She was married and moved away by the time I was born so I don't think of her as family, but we had the same father. I would not have developed diabetes if I had not changed my diet and stopped exercising, which caused me to gain weight. My half sister and her children were all overweight.
I baked another batch of apricot cookies today. They were all gone and they are the only ones DH eats. I have ingredients to make one more batch. If I freeze them he will have them for awhile.
I cannot get a good fast in. DH made scrambled eggs this morning and I could not resist. My thinking is they are low carb and very good for weight loss. But I eat them at the wrong time. I have to decide what to make for dinner. We are due to get snow later in the week and won't go out if it snows. We could. DH doesn't b mind driving in it, but why take a chance? Someone could slide into us. We don't go to Applebees anymore because the server short changed us $20. I did not count my change but noticed it after we left. Too late to to back and tell her. I don't like their food anyway. Too much seasoning. I will think of something.
Carol Sue Thank you for the correction on my last post. I did mean glucose. I am sorry you are having a time getting the fast the way you want it. Can you extend your eating window so he doesn't mess it up too much? You know there are people who do even a 12:12 ratio so perhaps you work out a different length to fit your situation. Losing might be slower but it would come.
I ended up with a good 24 hr fast. We went to the Chineese restaurante and the open sign was on but doors locked and DH said it looks like it is out of business. So we went to Church's chicken and got 2 legs and 2 thighs. We had stopped on the way to Sam's and got DH KFC slaw. So we came home and he had his 2 pc chicken and cole slaw and I air fried serving of sweet potato fries and bussel sprouts along with my salad. I bought a pecan pie shell and a can of Lite cherries pie filling so I threw it together and we had a slice of that for dessert. Think this brand was different from the one I got before but the cherries only have 4 g carbs no added sugar. When we go to Walmart, I will look for the Great Value with Splenda.
We got our second shingle vaccine and hopefully we will never have shingles again. DH DD wrote me this morning and her DH has been sick so she tested him and he is positive for covid. He is quarintined in their bedroom. Concerned about DGS because he is 8 and hasn't had the vaccine and she is struggling to decide if he should get it. So not sure what she will do about that. On top of all that they are packing to move at the end of this month. DS daughter's FIL is in the hospital with covid and on maximum oxygen they can give him. A lot going on.
The new pharmacy for us is really nice. The young man who gave our shots did a great job and just as sweet as he could be and they have made things so easy to change over. However, being the first of the month, a new year and so many of us newbies there, they were really busy.

Trish, I am getting a 16 hour fast because mostly I don't eat after dinner but I prefer not to eat til I'm hungry and I don't get hungry til 11 or 12. I need to not eat earlier. It is my decision not his. I'm glad you are doing so well. Its inspiring to me.
Step son did not get DGS vaccinated because of the heart infection some boys are getting. He was sick for a few days and is now better. Doesn't matter because they are vaccinated and still got it. I'm sorry DHs DD husband is sick and also DSs daughter FIL. Its time for all of this to be over. No more varients.
Your chicken sounds good. We only have KFC and Popeye here. They don't get a lot of business so I don't trust their chicken to be fresh. We can get fried chicken at Bob Evans but its boneless breast only. Its good but not like picking up a chicken leg!
We tried Popeye chicken in SC and it was too spicy. To me they go overboard on the hot stuff because there was a time I ate spicy foods but haven't been able to since I got older. And then DH has never liked spicy fods so they are off our list of places to eat.
I ended up with another OMAD. Never took the nap so I think I'm going to get a good nights sleep again because I'm getting sleepy kind of early for me.

Doing great Trish!
I tried Popeye when they first opened just to see. It was ok. Fried chicken isn't a big thing around here. For example, Wendys and McDonalds drive thru line is always lined up all around the building. Popeye and KFC rarely have cars around. I think thats because lots of people will eat a hamburger riding in their car but its hard to do that with a greasy chicken leg. You can buy it in stores that have rotisserie chicken but not in any restaurant. DH only likes boneless breast. When we got it near the casino I had to pull the skin off and debone it for him to eat it. My MIL made good fried chicken. She just dredged it in flour. I never tried to make it because DH wouldn't eat it. I could probably try making it with tenderloins.
I just don't like spicy foods. I never did. Not just hot spicy, I don't like highly seasoned. Some restaurants season their food way too much, like Applebees. Anytime I order things there I have a list of things I want omitted. Texas Roadhouse seasons a lot too. DH has to order his fries unseasoned or his blood pressure goes sky high. They seem to think they are making the food taste better but I like the taste of the food, not all that seasoning. One time I asked the server what kind of seasoning was on the seasoned rice. He said "Texas Roadhouse Seasoning.". So they don't want you to know. They just shake it all over everything.
I hear DH in the kitchen. He is probably making breakfast, which I will save and heat up later. I am not hungry.
We are supposed to get our first measureable snowfall Thursday into Friday, 1-3 inches. I am sooo glad we didn't get that snow they got in Virginia! It went south and missed us.
I haven't disappeared again, still working on making more eating changes. I work weekends, Friday and Saturday, and this week I was off Sunday but worked Monday, so I have been sleeping quite a lot over the past few days. I really need to go to the store, lol. When I did this before it was so much easier but now I have 2 teenagers, well one that's almost 17 and my son is 18. They cook and eat all the time so when I buy stuff to be able to eat I go to get it and it's gone. My son even ate my salad! I should be glad that he's decided to eat healthier, adding veggies to his diet, however the boy has an appetite that ends in him eating up a whole bag of salad. My daughter eats like a bird, which her 100lb weight reflects, but that doesn't seem to stop her from finding something I buy that trips her fancy and she eats what she wants. I can't very well tell them to stop eating healthy so my next shopping trip will have to include lots more good stuff.
Otherwise, my FBS this morning was 96, so that is the best it's been in a while. I do have trouble eating late at night/early morning. Working night shift for 20 years doesn't help. I've thought about checking out the intermittent fasting but i'm not sure exactly where to look for the most reliable information. My weight is down today at 282.2, hoping this will continue. When I was losing weight and eating healthy before I did make a personal rule to not eat after 8pm, or no later than midnight on days I had to work. I'm just having more struggles with it this time. Still loving the quiche for breakfast, of course one or both of these two ate it up so now i'm indulging in my guilty pleasure, cereal. We'll figure it out eventually.
I also have decided to get back into walking, just 3 times a week, but I do need to get outside if i'm going to be successful. I live in the south so it's not too cold right now and the results on my mental health are worth it!. We are all going this afternoon.
Carol, those cabbage rolls sound really good, so i'm going to find a recipe to make them. My kids will probably not eat them until I try them, find them good, and will return home to an empty fridge. Do they refrigerate and reheat well? I love spicy fried chicken from Popeye's but don't like anything from KFC, which is probably good. I need to steer clear of fast food restaurants because I always overeat there.
Adrienne Seeing Carol Sue's question about babies parents visiting, I have a quetion do you work in hospital pediatrics? My DH was a respiratory therapist in Neo-natal in a hospital in So. Florida for about 20 yrs. His love for those sick babies he took care of made me fall in love with him because I felt it showed me his heart. It takes special people to work with them. He worked nights and still lives on that schedule of sleeping days and up most of the night even though retired. I've worked shift work and can stay up late with him but not all night. Besides I like doing things during the morning. So it has worked out to be a good routine for us. When I look back to my years of working, I think it would have been difficult to do IF on some shifts, but easy at other times. It would depend on what the job was at the time because I had some jobs where it was easier not to eat while at work. I hope you will be able to find your woe.
It is nice that your children are choosing healthy foods. When DH DD and her DH and 4 children lived with us for a while, We couldn't get the baby to eat but couldn't seem to fill the other 3 up. I was constantly going shopping just trying to keep all the fruits and veggies on hand because they went through it so fast. So I know how that is.
Carol Sue I'm surprised DH didn't decide to go to the casino today if y'all are getting snow tomorrow and Friday. Congrats on the 20 hr fast.
Weight was the same today and FBG was back down to 100. I will have a 23 hr fast by the time we eat today, but not sure if I will do OM or 2 today. I would like to do the OMAD for a while but I remember reading Dr. Fung says it isn't good to do it all the time so maybe I need to alternate them or make them a once in a while thing so my body doesn't get used to it. I guess that is where where Intuitive eating will come in and just eat if hungry. I thought I was going to need to eat breakfast this morning but after my tea and coffee, the hunger went away so it wasn't really hunger.
It is still cold although warmer than it has been but cold in the house because heat to come on so will use the leftover chilli for chilli dogs. This means I probablly will need a 2nd meal so will plan a chicken salad made with the unbreaded frozen chicken nuggets cooked in the airfryer.

Not sure but I think Adrienne is a nurse in the NICU. I wondered about the babies parents coming in when the hospitals were not allowing visitors.
I too was wondering how you schedule your meals with the hospital shifts. That would be hard. You probably shouldn't be coming home to eat then go to sleep but depending on your schedule there might not be any other way. It would be very disapointing to plan on eating something when you come home to find out your kids ate it! But it is good that they are eating healthy food. My DGS is 13 and they call him an eating machine, and he loves meat. The most expensive thing. He doesn't like breakfast but in the evening after dinner he's always looking for another meal. So I understand what you're going through with your teens.
Trish, we did end up going to the casino once I told DH the weather forecast. We had another bad day. He said we are not going back for 2 weeks. I told him if he goes back on his word I am going to just refuse. But we know how that works, I always give in to him. I will do my best!
Since we will be getting snow I have a couple easy meals planned. I have some Chicken Voila to which I will add extra chicken, grilled tenderloins , and I have all the ingredients to make chili. And I have ingredients for one more batch of apricot cookies. It will be nice and cozy baking and I can freeze them. DH takes out a dozen at a time.
