Donna, I haven't felt mine much...but I only feel on one side...kind of scares me even though the babies were top to bottom last time.
DS is sitting on the couch watching buzz lightyear (aka buttyear) in his buzz lightyear halloween costume. My sister sent the front shield, inflatable wings, jet pack, arm cuffs, and laser beam for the arm. I got him a white shirt and gray pants and made his cowl and a black waistband. It is really cute, but the annoying thing is that the inflator part (like the pop out part on a beach ball) will not stay put so his wings keep deflating. Do you think it would ruin the wings if I just stuffed them with poly-fill instead of them being inflatable? It really seems to bother him when they droop.
I remember it was so great to see the u/s at 20 weeks because I hadn't felt a THING yet - it was another week or two before I started feeling little bumps. At almost 37 weeks he doesn't move as much, but when he does, I definitely know it!
Mary, is there any way to use some strong tape or carefully tied string to keep the little plug in? Or even super glue maybe if you're okay with them staying inflated forever.
I have just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes and I'm a little scared. I would like some advice on what to do. My appointment with the dietician isn't until next week so I'm kind of clueless about what foods are a definite no-no. As of right now I am 19w2d and still have no clue what I'm having yet. Little devil is keeping the legs crossed so I can't see! I want to know! Anyway, any advice would be great until I can see the dietician.
Suzette, if you haven't yet, you might want to check in with the ladies on the Diabetes Support board here at 3FC. Gestational diabetes is managed much the same as Type II diabetes, at least dietwise. Just make sure your carbs are unrefined as much as you can (whole grains, no "enriched wheat flour", you probably know the drill) and don't overeat even the good ones.
Basically as a beginning guide, you want to eat BALANCED. For breakfast-a serving of protein (an egg, a slice of ham, or peanut butter for instance), a serving of starch (oatmeal, WHOLE GRAIN TOAST), a serving of fruit, and a serving of dairy-this is much more balanced than having let's say...2 Pop-Tarts, which is loaded with sugar and refined (white) flour). the "better" meal has a balance of protein and good carbohydrates.
Another thing you want to do is stick to proper portion sizes. A serving of orange juice is 1 cup, as in a measuring cup-not "one glass". (Most glasses are 16oz. size...which is 2 cups if you drink a full glass full. A proper serving of juice would be more the size of the little glasses that restaurants bring you water in before your meal...not the full sized ones. Make sure that you are eating proper portion sizes in the foods that you are eating.
These basic guidelines should help you until you see your dietician.
Wow, I wish I realized this was here a little sooner! I'm now less than 2 weeks away from my c-section date. I looked for a thread like this when I had my last and it didn't exist yet. I should've come back and checked again!
Anyway, my name is Christine. I used to post to the 'Doin' it the old fashioned way' calorie-counters thread. But I kind of lost my way during/after my last pregnancy. This time around, I'm on my last (4th!) pregnancy so I hope to get back into the dieting swing of things shortly.
I have gained 24 lbs so far this pregnancy but I weigh over 200 lbs for the first time ever. I don't suppose I could've done a whole lot better being here though... the least I've ever gained in a pregnancy is 20lbs (with my last).
Not sure why I'm intro'ing myself here since I'm almost no longer preggo but I figure I ought to get my butt in the door here somewhere!
Funny, after my last post I started feeling the baby, I'm now 24wks, 1 d. I feel it in the mornings and evenings when I in bed.
My hips are starting to hurt already and my back is getting sore, the sciatica(sp?) nerve down my butt to my backthigh. I've gained about 20 lb so far and really trying not to overeat and choose wisely but I know I'm eating too much chocolate. I have to watch that.
I go tomorrow for another ultrasound and my next check up isn't until Oct 16th.
Welcome Christine, it's no problem for you to jump in. There are other threads too so no worries. The more the merrier as far as I'm concerned.
Diary - not sure abou the costume but your idea sounds good. My guy (5) went from wanting to be a vampire to a Ninja over the weekend, he's never even seen a ninja so I don'tknow what to think about that. He saw swords at the store and decided ninja, I might just go with vampire while I'm in Whitehorse and get some costumes at the dollar store. About all I can afford right now.
With my last pregnancy I was borderline gestational diebetic. My diatician told me to try and stay away from whites, potatoes, rice and flour. Look for the more grainy/brown of these. Sweet potatoes, brown or wild rice and whole wheat flour but use in moderation. Using the food guide/pyrimid and control the portion sizes, measuring and weighing. I find this to work for when I'm not pregnant as well. Not that I'm doing it right now but still. Good luck, I'm sure you can do it.
This looks like the hot place to be! Is anyone else still in the early stages (I'm 9 weeks right now)? I posted another thread re: pregnancy and weight gain when I first found out, and I'm happy to say that I feel like I've been doing VERY well thanks to making better food choices than I was pre-PG - amazing how a touch of morning sickness makes you hyper-aware of everything you put in your mouth! Huge cravings for fresh fruit also help. Have had fractional up-and-downs (to be expected, PG or no), but net gain to date is still ZERO!
This week I am apparently trading MS for fatigue - I had about three days where I felt good enough that I actually wondered if I hallucinated the whole thing, lol. But now, if I don't get about 12 hours of sleep a day between nighttime and naps, I just don't function.
Speaking of fruit cravings, DH was supposed to go shopping this afternoon but didn't, so I think I'm going to go raid the produce section myself.
(P.S. - Mary, guess who these make me think of?! )
Hi Fiona, I'm also in the early stages (11 weeks). I'm feeling pretty good, no m/s, just fatigue. I haven't gained any weight either (nothing tastes good and I'm struggling with getting enough to eat). I've been drinking milk and juice to get calories in. Though now that you mention fresh fruit, that sounds really good! I think I need to visit the produce market today!
I just wanted to stop in and report that I just found out I’m having a girl! We’re all so excited. During the ultrasound I even started crying. DH and I so wanted a girl, even DS wanted a sister, but I had convinced myself that I was having a boy so when the lady said “I don’t see any extra parts” I was overwhelmed with surprise and happiness. I’m sure I would have had the same happiness regardless, but it was such a surprise. We already have her named, Noelle Constance, Constance is after my mother you passed away almost 3 years ago.
Dawn,
Glad you are excited about everything! I thought we were the same (far along) but you are about 2 weeks ahead I see.
I'm feeling some MAJOR movement right now. So weird. I wish I could tell which is which. They are laying transverse. I hope they turn so if my water does happen to break on its own I won't have to ride to the hospital with my legs in the air trying to prevent a cord prolapse. That would be a sight on the freeway, huh?
Dawn - what a beautiful name! I've got another 6-8 weeks (I think) before we'll be able to find out, and the wait is killing me!
Had some crazy vertigo this morning - but the weird thing was, it only kicked in while I was LYING DOWN. Like when I rolled over from one side to the other, or stretched my arm above my head to answer the phone, the whole room would spin like I just downed an entire pitcher of margaritas! Closest I've been to throwing up yet! As soon as I stood up and started moving around, it went away. Very strange.
