Default New Meal Plan

Hi Everyone!

So I went to my endocronologist appt yesterday. He put me on a 2 month meal plan of only 1000-1200 calories to try and break up my plataeu. He also put me on the ER metformin to try and help things not go all crazy in the stomach area.

SO here is the new meal plan---thoughts? Ideas?

Breakfast:
1 cup hot or cold cerel
1/2 skim milk
1 piece of fruit

Lunch
Slimfast meal bar or shake
Piece of fruit

Dinner
Lean Cuisine, weight watchers or Healthy choice meal
piece of fruit
as big a salad as I want with only veggies/fruit (no crunchies--nuts, croutons, bacon etc). 2 Tbsp dressing

If I get hungry before bed I get one more piece of fruit.

I am to drink at least 60 oz of water (easy!) and get as much diet soda as I want (weird, most diets say this is a no-no). I also have to take several mulitvitamins with calcium to make up the iron, protein, etc that I am missing.

He said this is a metabolism boot camp and it is going to shock my body into losing weight, but I am being monitored every week.

So beginning of day 1 is so far so good. :-)

i don't know what AN stands for, lol, but i'm wondering if you mean dark, dry-ish patches? if so, get regular with that spiro! i had it on my neck, underarms, and inner thighs and the spiro has REALLY helped! my neck and underarms have completely faded.

the spiro is really weird. i'm on 200mg/day for my girlybeard but that hasn't improved much at all. if anything, i don't get a 5 o'clock shadow anymore but i still have to remove hair every day. however, the dark skin patches i had faded, and my leg and arm hair is barely noticeable anymore! really light and thin. i wish it had that effect on my face!

Did your endo give you the menu, or did he just say 1000-1200 calories? The reason I ask is because that looks like a fairly high carb diet, and carbs + met = lots of diarrhea for me! But I've also got a wimpy stomach. I don't take met anymore, and hoping that I don't have to take it again. We didn't get along, but lots of people do fine on it.

NicoyaAngel, I'm so jealous of your weather!

Wow! So many checking in! Welcome aboard to the Sept. thread!

AN - acanothosis nigricans. Thanks for the spiro tip!

Sorry I'm rushing in and rushing out today... a friend is having a hard time and I'm spending my free time trying to be supportive.

I'll check in better once friend is in better shape.

Hey all!

Has anyone else ever lost weight while on BC pills for PCOS, and then had their body try to over-ride the BC? I'm down about 25 pounds from this time last year according to the doctor...and for my last two cycles (when I lost about 6 pounds from being on Phase I of SB again) it seems like my body is trying to over-ride the pills. I've been starting the cycle (not spotting...actually starting although it's light) a full week before I even get to the non-hormone pills in the pack!

I'm a bit nervous about what that means...

Had an AWESOME work out day today! 4 hours & 50 minutes of pure workout. It was safe, I promise. But now I am sooooo sore. LOL A good sore. Worked out muscles I did not know were there. I am hoping to lose another 5-6 lbs by my next weigh in date which is October 1st. Not going to kill myself, just going to take it a day at a time.

Jennifer - LOL Where are you? I'm in California & it's nice out here. Too bad it will end soon =( Well maybe, we didn't have much of a summer. If we put together all of our sunny hot days we might get 2 weeks total LOL.

Ok time to log in my time =D

Chou -- glad your weekend was nice!

museumchick: Is it break thru bleeding? Sometimes that can happen if you were off with the times you took your pills.

Nicoyaangel -- wow, were you hiking or sailing or something? Glad you had fun though!

My Check In:

So I've been eating badly the last couple days. I feel bloated. A friend is going through divorce, so spending lots of time being supportive there with others meant off kilter meals out or frozen food or whatever as we rallied round the person. Tried to do damage control but when people are upset, it didn't seem right to get TOO fussy with it since it was supposed to be about supporting the friend in need.

I did groceries today and want to get back with it. I got a haircut and the stylist told me my hair is nice and healthy, strong, etc. So yay Spiro? I haven't had anyone tell me my hair was in good shape in years!

A.

Hi there, I'm new!

I'm working and going to school currently. I started dieting on 7/31, and have been working very hard at it. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was about 29. I'm 32 now, unmarried, with no child. I'm in a wonderful relationship, and we have been seriously talking about marriage. I'm worried that since I'm overweight, Type 2, and have PCOS my chances of being pregnant in the future is an uncertainty. I made a promise to myself that I have to do the best I can to lose the weight, and the rest is in Gods hands.

I'm currently on Metformin 500/2xdaily, I check my fasting blood sugar daily and it's about 80-110, average of 93. I'm dieting, with emphasis on leafy greens and protein. Since I've been on this diet, my sugar readings have been so much better. The good news is that I have been ovulating, I have noticed that ovulation has been more painful lately, even more so than periods. (not sure if anyone has experienced this?? Let me know if you have)

As far as exercising, I really need to step it up, do some more walking. I'm a decent swimmer, so I'm going to do my best to get over my fear of people making fun of me in a swimsuit. Next Spring, I would love to feel comfortable with riding a bike again.

I hope everyone is doing well!! Good luck with all your goals and God Bless!!

Astrophe>> Hang in there. It is hard being a supportive friend and being around tempting food options. Try to throw a protein bar in your purse or some fruit and veggies. My fiance laughs because he never knows if he will find a whole banana or cantaloup in my purse lol

Jennifer>> The endo typed up and wrote out this specific diet for me. I was a little worried about all the natural carbs in the fruit but so far it hasn't been that bad. There are about 2 times a day when I seem to get a "wash" of the metformin (around the same times too) and that causes a little upset tummy but I'm holding steady. Will weigh in at the end of the week.

Aurelia31>> Welcome! I know that having a lot of issues (PCOS, Type II, overweight) can seem overwhelming but from everything I have read the lower our weights the healthier we become and the less issues we experience with the PCOS. I know for my mom, the same is true for her type II. She controls hers completely by diet and the lower her weight, the better her blood sugar numbers. Hang in there!

Astrophe - Consider that your cheat & just try & eat as healthy as possible. I know how that feels. I'm always there my friend but she eats very bad & temptation kills me too LOL No, I was actually swimming. I did a ton of laps and at the same time showing my BFF & my fiancee how to swim. It was so much fun. It's our new Saturday night routine. But oh man I wa sore from head to toe & in between LOL Hiking sounds like fun too. I need to find a path. Hmmm...

Aurelia31 - Welcome!!!! I hope we can help you out on this journey.

Aurelia31 This forum really helps in getting over the overwhelming part of PCOS. I was pshyched about PCOS / fertility when I found out. But since then (June) i've lost about 18 pounds and some of the symptoms seem very distant now. Its all about excercise and weight management. Ovulation etc. all falls into place with time.

Hope the ladies are WORKING OUT! Let's go ladies to a healthy September!!

Who's here this month?
Zan, I kind of lurk in the forums, but don't really post in this section.
How are you?
Annoyed with my doctors and their "whatever" approach after they freaked me out a few months back, but I think I'm fine, really. I think I am doing okay with regards to my health, and having fun with everything else when I get the chance, woohoo!
What are you working on? How was last month?
Still working on weightloss, same as last month, no real big change with that, but I think I am dropping weight at a rather slow but steady rate, .
How's your PCOS management going?
Err... Um... Management? *awkward laugh*
Iron pills for anemia is about it, but the fatigue just comes back every once in a while due to sudden heavy blood loss episodes. Just losing weight gave me a few more days off from TOM and hoping that continuing to do so will eventually give me a change with my menorrhagia issue. *pout*

I'll try to pop in more often and actually post, s and have a nice Wednesday!

Who's here this month?

me- beerab!

How are you?

Doing alright.

What are you working on?

Getting back on track with exercise and food.

How was last month?

I ate way too many carbs and crap- my dandruff has come back DAMMIT. I know it's cuz of the carbs.

How's your PCOS management going?

Well it's getting back on track, I'm still working with my spironolactone messing with my system, I had to go from 200 mg to 100 mg because my blood pressure was too low. 100/60 but I want to get back up to the 200 because now the hair is growing back with vengeance! *sigh*

I'm also taking metformin slow release on doctor's insistence. I know take it with lunch and it's been better- not the nausea I used to get- but someone told me you should take vitamins with it and that helps? I take vitamins in the morning now and that's really the only thing that has changed besides taking it with lunch instead of dinner! Anyone here know what dosage of metformin you had to take to see a difference? My coworker takes 2000 mg and I'm on 500mg, slowly moving up of course.

I agree does he know that you aren't supposed to eat so many carbs when you have PCOS? Slimfast? That should be a salad with protein IMO. There is way too much fruit. I mean I hope it works for you but I am very doubtful- why didn't he refer you to a nutritionist who works with patients who have PCOS? That's the one thing my old doctor did right.
