WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST PROBLEM IN WEIGHT LOSS: Laying off the Sugary stuff...& feeling good enough to exercise. (I have PCOS plus 3 different types of arthritis...wake up stiff & swollen daily, etc. I fight it though!)

WHAT IS DIFFERENT THIS TIME THAT WILL MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL: I cut out almost all of my sugars and I am finally getting treatment for PCOS.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?

I've been through alot in my life that hasnt been too good, (I could write a book...) but I have taken the experience from those things and turned it into positives by helping others that might have went or are going through similar situations. I've always felt there was a reason for everything, and so far there is...although at the time I had went through some really bad life changing things and wondered "why me ?!" I understand now why it was me! I believe when God closes 1 door, He opens another...might not be the door we want at the time, but everything has a way of working itself out. I'm tired of being fat, so hopefully with having a hysterectomy (June 27, 2003), getting this arthritis under better control(another story in itself) and this PCOS taken care of (another story in itself), exercising, and making buddies here, I can get un-fat again!!

OK I'll share about me I'm new to this website and I'd love to make some new friends

Name: Erin

Age: 23

BIRTHDAY: June 11, 1980

LOCATION: Wapakoneta, OH (bout an hour away from Columbus)

MARITAL STATUS: Married almost 2 months got married on 7/26/03

SPOUSE’S NAME: Keith

CHILDREN/AGES: Chewie, 1 year old ( yes some MIGHT refer to him as a pet, but trust me he is my BABY Chocolate lab

HEIGHT: 5'6"

EYE COLOR: Brown

OCCUPATION: unemployed I just finished my masters in education, but teaching jobs are hard to come by in Ohio because of the messed up teachers retirement system (NO ONE is retiring )

More about me: Well I was diagnosed with PCOS about 2 years ago, but was only given BC (ortho-tri cyclen). ONLY after reading this website have I realized that I'm probably taking the wrong BC for a person with PCOS. Because of my current work situation, I don't have insurance, but as soon as I do I'll be finding a new doctor and getting some new BC. My most devastating part of having PCOS though has been the facial hair.......as a female its obviously a very tough thing to deal with and a tough thing to even discuss..............

I'm a very open person who will discuss most anything and am so excited to have found this website.............if there is anymore you want to know about me, just ask

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST PROBLEM IN WEIGHT LOSS: demanding sweet tooth, getting enough energy and motivation to exercise, I also love to cook.

WHAT IS DIFFERENT THIS TIME THAT WILL MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL: low-carb diet, finally finding out that I have PCOS. Most importantly, want to be able to have a baby, which PCOS and my weight is preventing.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT YOU? I was just diagnosed with PCOS 2 weeks ago when I went to a fertility specialist to find out why I wasn't getting pregnant. Luckily I was already on the low-carb diet, so no major life changes other than having to take Metaformin and progesterone. Personally, for me it was a relief to be diagnosed. I was starting to think I was going crazy(er) because I knew something was wrong but no one would take me seriously.
I'm a mostly open person with a good sense of humor. I have a live and let live approach to life. I can be somewhat anti-social when I'm moody. I've had a hard life, but it gets better by the day as I learn to be healthier, emotionally and physically.

Default Anonymouse Bio--Update

DATE: January 27, 2004

USERNAME/REAL NAME: Anonymouse/Magi

AGE: 30

BIRTHDAY: June 9, 1973

MARITAL STATUS: Single

HOBBIES/INTERESTS: Science Fiction & Fantasy books, computers, history of education, pop culture, SF Fandom, swimming/water aerobics, assistive technology, board & card games, puzzles

PETS: Imp (cat). He's the furry creature you see as my avatar pic. He's part Egyptian Mau, part American Domestic Shorthair.

TOP WEIGHT: 385
CURRENT WEIGHT: 365

GOAL WEIGHT: I don't care right now as long as it less than the current. Everybody has begun telling me I look like I'm losing weight and that I need new clothes because mine are way too big. They might be right.

HEIGHT: 5'8

EYE COLOR: Hazel

HAIR COLOR: Black

OCCUPATION: Special Education Teacher for students with multiple disabilities (currently teaching computer literacy and pre-vocational skills; formerly taught life-skills and functional math)

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: Baltimore, Maryland

E-MAIL ADDRESS: Try and guess!

HOMEPAGE URL: Maybe when I get around to teaching my students how to make a webpage, I'll make one for myself. Probably not.

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST PROBLEM IN WEIGHT LOSS: Not being able to lose weight. Ever. I track what I eat using a program on my PocketPC with a desktop computer companion program. According to THAT program, I should be eating 2900 calories a day. Yea, right. Whatever.

WHAT IS DIFFERENT THIS TIME THAT WILL MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL: I have no idea. I'm not doing anything different this time than I have since I joined this forum, but all of a sudden I'm finally losing some weight. The only difference is that they added spironolactone to my medications this past summer. I was exercising before, and it made no difference.
I have joined a gym that caters to people with physical disabilities (I have nerve damage in my ankle) so they have an accessible pool, evening water aerobics classes, and machines that I can actually use.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?
If I think of anything, I'll let you know.

BIRTHDAY: June 24, 1956

MARITAL STATUS: Married since 1990-- to the same guy, so far

SPOUSE’S NICKNAME: "Dude"

HOBBIES/INTERESTS: History, poli sci, theater, music, art...

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: Portland, Oregon

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST PROBLEM IN WEIGHT LOSS: I'm not really all that interested in food, so I tend to skip meals, leading to ravenous hunger. Struggle to eat breakfast, easily bored with cooking.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?

I'm extremely analytical, rational, logical, and scientific. I'm not necessarily touchy-feely or sentimental in an obvious way, and I can be very blunt. But I try to help people, as much as I can, even if what I say isn't always what they want to hear. And the sense of humor is, well, rather odd... you'll see...

Wink Newbie to the board

DATE: April 6, 2003

USERNAME/REAL NAME: OctoberBride/Christina

AGE: 25

BIRTHDAY: August 17, 1978
MARITAL STATUS: Getting married on Ocober 28, 2004 on Kauai, Hawaii
SPOUSE’S NAME: Dan

CHILDREN/AGES: Not yet!
HOBBIES/INTERESTS: Horseback riding, anything to do with animals, rollerblading
PETS: Both Violet and Trouble (my wonderful house buns) are at the rainbow bridge...
TOP WEIGHT: 165
CURRENT WEIGHT: 145
GOAL WEIGHT: 130
HEIGHT: 5'4

EYE COLOR: Light brown
HAIR COLOR: brown naturally curly hair
OCCUPATION: Gainfully unemployed

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: Brooklyn NYC

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST PROBLEM IN WEIGHT LOSS: Keeping it off...I have been gaining and losing the same 30 lbs for 5 years. The PCOS diagnosis at least gave me a reason to why I started inexplicably gaining weight at age 20, but the idea of a "major lifestyle change" in college didn't go so well in the college dining halls...the only thing I could do was increase my activity level. Out of college, it was easy to get back down to my "normal" weight going to the gym and really low-carbing it. Then I had a serious sports injury which has lead to a chronic ankle sprain and patellar tendonitis in the knee of the same leg...just call me gimpy. The term "working out" does not apply anymore. Couple that with moving in with hubby-to-be (and cooking for him) with an unhappy job, and the weight just poured back on.

WHAT IS DIFFERENT THIS TIME THAT WILL MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL: Losing weight isn't about being "hot" or not anymore. I'd love to be a size 4 again, but I have an (almost) husband who loves me no matter what I weigh, and reminds me how beautiful I am when my hair is in knots and I'm wearing a housecoat. I have to be attentive to what I eat because my physical mobility is limited for the time being. I can't just work it off at the gym anymore. At 165, my ankle and knee hurt all the time. It hurt to walk. It hurt to have more than one blanket on the bed. I am (finally) in physical therapy for my leg injuries, and I quit my job. I have time for myself that I never had, and it is literally a lifesaver. I have the time to go food shopping, cook healthy (palatable) food for the both of us, and not eat take-out every night like we used to. It makes a big difference. (Getting married on the beach is a big motivator too!)

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT YOU? I'm currently taking Yasmin 28, and wondering who else out there is on it, and how they are doing?

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST PROBLEM IN WEIGHT LOSS: To be honest I don't think it's me anymore. I was pristine, pristine I tell you, for months through to the Xmas holiday 2003. I exercised, barely ate and lost nothing, NOTHING--not a single stinking pound. So in terms of weight loss, I know what food choices to make and I make them, I don't eat fast food, I know how to portion control and I do it the vast majority of the time.

I'm tired of feeling like it's my fault, it's not. I don't believe I'll ever be truly thin again. I believe I can be better than I am now, but I'll never get back to an 8 and I don't care. I'd rather live my life than spend it obsessing about my weight. I want to be happy, not model thin.

That being said, I do have some bad habits. I am a Pepsi addict, have been ever since my adrenal glands stopped working for a year and I needed the kick of sugar and caffeine. I strictly limit my intake because I don't believe that Pepsi is a food, it's poison, but I need it sometimes, and am slowly weaning myself off--again.

I do like sugar but I don't tend to gorge--unless it's summer and then it's ice cream for dinner!

WHAT IS DIFFERENT THIS TIME THAT WILL MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL: I sincerely hope the difference will be the PCOS diagnosis and I'm going to be trying the South Beach Diet.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT YOU? I'm friendly and willing to share my opinion but don't expect people to agree with me. I read a lot and do a lot of research and will let people know what I've read/seen--good or bad. I believe in reviewing all the information available so I can make the best choice.

Goal weight: 200...see where it goes from there.

Other info: Been diagnosed as hypothyroid about 6 years ago. Dr's now suspicion PCOS or Cushings or some other wonderful thing..LOL. I don't care what it is as long as they can help me get some of this weight off. I currently take ARmour thyroid 120 mg daily, spiro 50mg, Yasmin BC pill. I hope to find people in my area to maybe start a walking group with etc. I have done atkins and carb addicts diets and gained weight on both...although doing them to the letter, so I am a little confused about the PCOS diagnosis. Most people have told me if you have that, low carb is really effective and works well... Hope everyone is doing well. I am here to offer any words of encouragement I can.
