Carb-Sensitive Dieting (Thread 5)

This thread is for carb-sensitive dieters who are following various low-, slow- or moderate-carb diet plans. Come join us, posting as much or as little as you like, as we share our diet plans, menus, recipes, exercise, daily progress, and healthy tips, and chat, inspire, motivate, and encourage each other! Please let us know what carb-conscious plan you are following, even if it's your own individual plan, and we will do our best to support you!

As for me, I am doing a modified version of Tim Ferriss's Slow Carb Diet. I like it because I never feel "starved" (as I always have while dieting in the past) and that's because I no longer experience daily blood sugar spikes and drops due to quick-burning, high glycemic index carbs. I also never feel deprived because this diet includes one day each week when I can eat ANY foods I want. And although exercise is recommended, it is not required. I'm not much of an exerciser, although I am getting better, but I try at least to walk for 20-30 minutes each day. The Slow Carb Diet is not for everyone though. Everybody's different!

The gist of the actual Tim Ferriss Slow Carb Diet is: For 6 days of the week, eat lean, preferably organic meats and fish/seafood, eggs, legumes, and non-starchy veggies. (Sugar-free Jello, 16 oz. of diet soda per day, and 1-2 glasses of red wine per day are also allowed.) On these 6 days, avoid breads/grains, dairy (except for cottage cheese), pasta, fruits (except for tomatoes and avocados), sweets, and starchy vegetables. The 7th day of the week (you choose the day) is a "cheat day," when you can eat anything at all as much as you want, including anything on the forbidden list. The cheat day is recommended to keep you from feeling deprived so you'll stay on the diet and to shake up your metabolism each week to keep it from stalling. Ferriss recommends eating 20 grams of protein with each meal, eating 30-60 minutes within waking up in the morning, eating the same meals over and over, having five low-carb days before taking a cheat day, and some other fine details, which I don't really know because I haven't read his book, The Four Hour Body, nor do I intend to. I'm happy with my own version of the diet!

I am a big believer in doing what works for you (as long as it DOES work), so I have tweaked the Slow Carb Diet, and my personalized plan looks like this:

For 6 days of the week, I eat
--meat (not necessarily lean or organic)
--fish
--legumes (including baked beans)
--eggs
--non-potato veggies
--veggie-like fruits (like tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, etc.)
--nuts and seeds in moderation (a handful)
--peanut butter in moderation (not natural, just regular Jif)
--yogurt
--cottage cheese
--other dairy in moderation
--black and green olives
--condiments and sauces (including ketchup and honey bbq sauce)
--full-fat salad dressings (usually ranch)
--breaded convenience/fast food meats like chicken tenders (It's too much trouble to try to peel the breading off, so I just allow it since I don't eat these foods very often.)
--protein bars on occasion (for convenience--I've found I have to eat these sparingly because they can trigger my hunger)
--fibrous fruit and berries in moderation (I didn't add this until I reached my goal of a normal BMI. So far it's working for me without a problem, but I don't overdo it)

and I drink
--Water, often flavored with Mio Liquid Water Enhancer (I try to drink a half oz of water for every lb I weigh, daily)
--Diet Dr. Pepper (I'm addicted to this and I'm trying to stay away from it, but I still don't want to remove it from my list!)
--Green tea, sweetened with Splenda

For these 6 days, I avoid
--breads, cereals, and grains (including corn)
--pasta
--fruits (except veggie-like fruits)
--potatoes
--sweets

I count no calories. I count no carbs. I count no grams. I don't eat within 30-60 minutes of waking up. I don't eat every 4 hours. I don't pay attention to numbers at all. I don't necessarily eat the same meals over and over. (If I do, it's simply because I like those foods!) I eat when I'm hungry. I stop when I'm full, and I try not to eat late at night, although if I'm hungry, I will.

The 7th day of the week (I've chosen Saturday, although I'll move it for a special occasion) is what Tim Ferriss calls Cheat Day but what I call Carb Day. (It's not cheating on the plan but rather an actual part of the plan!) I can eat WHATEVER I want as much as I want on Carb Day, but again, I eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full. Plus, I do try to be mindful that the more quick carbs I eat, the more I am going to crave them, so I try not to go "all out" (although occasionally I will). I do gain between .5 and 2.5 lbs the day after Carb Day, but it's just water weight and it usually falls back off in the next couple of days while I continue to lose fat. It's all figured into the plan, so I don't worry about it.

So that's what I'm doing! What are you doing? If you are on or want to try a low-, moderate- or slow-carb diet, feel free to join us!

I always fluctuate between 197 and 201. I was at 201 and am now down to 200. I think I might go back to daily weighing for a while, until it frustrates me too much. Just thankful I don't go higher. Jacqui, I was reading through your intro post and realize that you eat pretty much like I do, but I do carbs here and there at dinner and don't have a carb day. I would be happy to never have the starchy carbs, but I make them for DH and occasionally indulge. I do notice that when I have them, it's very hard to stop at a tiny portion. If I stay away from them altogether, I don't crave them. You have done so well with this, I don't see any need for you to deviate. Same with PQ, what she's doing works for her. I know my problem is giving in to those starches before thinking it through.

PQ I strongly prefer Coke to Pepsi. That's part of the reason why I don't order it when eating out. Most places have Pepsi. It's Pepsi at the casino, but it's free. So I like "free."

This morning DH brought breakfast from McDonald's. I had 2 Sausage/Egg McMuffins without the muffins. It broke my heart to throw them out for the birds, but if I didn't, they would end up in my mouth. So I had 2 eggs and 2 pieces of sausage. I don't like the cheese, but it's too much to ask DH to remember to say "no cheese." LOL Now he's mopping the floors. Gotta love him. I know he's being so nice because he wants to go to the casino. I don't want to. We'll see who wins.

PQ I'm sorry to hear Bro is back in the hospital. I hope they can find the problem and get it taken care of. He has gone through so much, expecially at his age. My niece Nancy came home but only lasted a week and is back in the hospital. She is having difficulty breathing and they think it's from scar tissue from the trach. She is also having an irregular heart beat.

Jacqui_D 05-06-2016 02:59 PM

Carol Sue, it's definitely no fun to weigh everyday! I'd be delighted to weigh on every day that I go lower on the scale. It's just those ticks back up that are killer, lol! Still, it keeps me honest. I do better when I have to step on the scale each day and even better when I have to come here to report it! :goodscale: I'm sure if I didn't have a Carb Day, I'd have a terrible time resisting carbs at dinner when I have to make them for my DH too. The only way I get through it is by telling myself, "You can have it on Saturday." And like you, once I eat a little bit, it is so hard to stop! That's the nature of quick-burning carbs, I guess. They make you crave them when you have them! I do much better abstaining altogether...until Carb Day that is! I know you cannot do a Carb Day because that would be too many carbs in a single day and would play havoc with your blood sugar. If I didn't have a Carb Day, I'd be doing what you're doing, trying to eating just a little bit each day. That is so hard though! I think you are doing great maintaining within a 4-lb range! I haven't figuring out how to do that yet, but hopefully I will! :dunno: I'm gonna place my bet on DH on the topic of the casino, lol! I say it's going to be too hard to say no if he keeps being all sweet and helpful and generous! Plus you won't have to cook! :D I am so sorry to hear Nancy is back in the hospital too! I have her on my prayer list also!

PQ, it looks like a great day for gardening! :sunny: Any news on your brother today?

Hi Sum and Rennie!

PrairieQueen 05-06-2016 06:05 PM

Hi, all! Just a quick note....pizza time! Team of cardiologists came in to see bro and still can't figure it out. mom said he's been overdoing it on pain meds, fell, and wet the bed one night, so she took them all away from him like you do for a child. She's also said he's been mixing alcohol with them. But doc don't think that's it! I think it is. He needs counseling and back surgery asap. He won't answer my texts because he know I'm going to Kay into him.

Carol Sue sorry to hear about nancy :(

Wannabehealthy 05-07-2016 10:10 AM

PQ, sounds like Bro is being a bad boy. It's hard. He has been through a lot and I'm sure he's depressed over it and just wants to live a normal life. But if he doesn't get some control, there won't be a life. I can relate to this, with my diabetes. I know in my heart of hearts that there are some things I just cannot eat. And every time I indulge and get a BS spike, I want to kick myself. I swear I won't do it again, but I do it again. I think my problem will start to effect the quality of my life eventually, but with Bro, it's going to effect whether he will have a life or not. Much more serious. Yes, he probably does need counseling. Back surgery is probably going to depend on his compliance.

Jacqui, I CAN do fairly well with not eating the carbs that I prepare for DH, but it's so easy to pop a fried potato into my mouth! Also, when I make mashed potatoes, I should fill the pan with water as soon as he is finished with it, or I will finish it off while I'm cleaning up. It's not a matter of waiting until Carb Day when I can have them. Because of my diabetes, there cannot be a Carb Day. My only option is a small amount at a time, and the best option is to do away with them altogether. It IS very hard to stick to a small amount. Much easier to have none. That first bite makes me want to have the second bite, and third, then I'm out of control and my BS shoots up. I quit smoking cold turkey in May 1993....never looked back. But you can't just stop eating. It's much harder to stop carbs cold turkey, even though they damage a diabetic body as much or more than cigarettes. My sister-in-law dieted herself to a 97 lb weight loss, but can't quit smoking. I don't understand that.

By the way, DH won and we went to the casino. It was OK. Not a total loss. LOL

Jacqui_D 05-07-2016 11:14 AM

PrairieQueen, Carol Sue expressed what I'm also thinking concerning your brother. It must be so hard for him, and for you and your family worrying about him. :(

Carol Sue, skipping high glycemic carbs probably would be best, but oh, that's so hard to do! I know I can't do it. I just don't have that kind of willpower. I can skip them for 6 days a week but that's my limit, haha! :hungry: Did you win at the casino? :D

Woohoo, I'm down to 177 today! :dancer: Today is my Carb Day and I have a wedding to go to. (And I'll be watching over my grandbabies!) I don't want to go overboard with carbs today like I have been doing on Carb Days for the last 3 months. I skipped toast for breakfast, which I always make for DH. I have mint M&M's in the kitchen and I imagine I will get into a bag of those. It's possible an Oreo may make it into my mouth also and I know I'll have a slice of wedding cake but that's really as far as I want to go. No sandwiches or anything like that. I don't remember what I'm having at the reception but I imagine it's along the lines of chicken and some green veggie. So I'm reserving my Carb Day for a few sweets today but no breads, potatoes, pasta, etc. :crossed: It's helping that I'm not as hungry as I have been. You know how when you start a diet anew, after about a week or so you kind of reach a point when your hunger subsides and you feel full faster. Thank goodness, I am starting to feel that again! :cp:

Yesterday's menu...
Break - sausage mcmuffin
Lunch - 1/2 portion of leftover lemon/mushroom chicken pasta
Snack - dill pickle, 2 slices salami
Dinner - homemade pizza w/turkey pepperoni

Went walking and asparagus picking at a local farm this morning. Bought some "backup" plants for garden so I have some early stuff and different varieties. Retilled a portion of small garden for a second planting of beets and spinach and some red onions and cilantro. I've got to acclimate the plants a few days before I set them out....still a little chilly here for tomatoes and peppers.

I hit 10,000 steps at 2:30 today! I needed to....I'm making copycat Cheesecake Factory chicken Marsala, asparagus, and mashed potatoes tonight. Ive been fantasizing about it for a week now, so time to make.

Bro just texted me that he has pericarditis, which is treatable. I don't have details yet, but I'm sure I'll get them tonight when he's bored. Laters!

Happy Mother's Day!!! :flow2: I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

PrairieQueen, what does that mean when you say you have to acclimate your plants to the weather? We never grow veggies, but my DH decided to pick up some tomato plants. We haven't planted them yet, but now I'm wondering what we should be doing with them, lol! :dizzy: I'm so glad to hear your brother's condition is treatable! :dancer:

I still weigh 177 today :cp: but that probably means I will have a jump up tomorrow. I don't know why my body has that delayed reaction to storing extra Carb Day water weight but it often does. It'd be awesome if it decided not to jump up, but that doesn't happen very often. I was proud of myself for sticking to my plan yesterday and staying moderate with the carbs. At the wedding reception, potatoes, 2 types of pasta, and rolls were served, but I avoided them and stuck to satisfying my sweet tooth like I said I would. Yesterday, I ate one Oreo (that was probably the hardest to do. I really wanted more), mint M&M's, and a thin slice of wedding cake.

Happy Mother's Day to all!

Jacqui and PQ, both being in Ohio you're weather should be similar for planting tomatoes. We never plant ours here before Memorial Day, but we buy them a couple weeks ahead of time. We only know of one place to buy the ones we want and they don't have many, so you have to get them early. They are called Fantastic Tomatoes. They grown a smaller tomato than the Big Boys that we're all familiar with.

PQ, glad to hear that they found the problem with Bro. Hope he does well with the treatment.

Jacqui_D 05-08-2016 03:58 PM

Thanks Carol Sue! Happy Mother's Day to you too! :) DH bought beefeater tomatoes. We know nothing about planting vegetables, but DH wanted to give it a try because this is the first time we haven't had dogs. The dogs kept us from having any kind of garden before. When we bought our house on the river, it had a garden and the dogs ate everything in it. (Not many garden fences will keep a giant dog from going where he wants to go!) If I had tried to hand-feed the dogs veggies like that, they wouldn't have eaten them, but there was something about finding them in that garden that made them eat them up!

PrairieQueen 05-08-2016 06:39 PM

Jacqui in our part of Ohio, Mothers Day seems to be the magic day that signifies planting. However, it was early this year and I always wait until the weekend before Memorial Day for my store-bought plants. I plant me own from-seed plants Memorial Day weekend or the week after. This year, I'll have to do before because we're leaving. I will also plant more store bought mid June because you can get a bargain on them at the nursery.

As for acclimating them, I set them outside in the day and bring back on at night until the last few nights. Then I plant with s little miracle grow. I also bring them in if there are any rough storms.

Bro is back home feeling much better. Treatment for pericarditis is ibuprofen! They still don't know we his liver enzymes are up but took more blood today for another round of tests. He has symptoms of both hep b and c. Of course he tested negative for all this when he was admitted back in November. The only blood transfusions he had was since in the hospital. They're not saying he had it but they're stumped right now.

Break - leftover chicken Marsala, mashed tatters
Lunch - steak sandwich, oven fries
Dinner - ham/asparagus pasta, pineapple spears

Wannabehealthy 05-09-2016 12:23 PM

PQ I hope Bro doesn't have hepatitis. Saying a little prayer for him.

Jacqui, we have tried planting a few other veggies with poor results so we gave up. We were paying more for the plants that the value of what we were yielding. The rabbits and ground hogs would eat the plants before they got a chance to grow. DH uses a small rototiller to plow the ground then mixes in some store bought cow manure. That's it. They are in the morning and late afternoon sun. He buys 8 plants. The main problem is you wait all summer for the tomatoes and then they start coming so fast you can't eat them all. Sometimes I will can some of them. Step-son cans, and sometimes I take mine to his house and we do them all together and I just bring home a few jars. I use them over the winter for chili, etc. I have heard that you can cut them up and freeze them, too, but I've never tried that. I prefer to eat them fresh.

I remember when Chickadeee had all that kale she grew. I love kale, but so do the rabbits and ground hogs. They don't seem to bother the tomatoes.

Jacqui_D 05-09-2016 03:43 PM

PrairieQueen, oh my I'll be praying also that he doesn't have hep. I'll have to keep that in mind about the week before Memorial Day. Thanks! :)

Carol Sue
, oh that would be great to have canned tomatoes, but I have no idea how to can things. My sister cans and says it's pretty easy. She keeps telling me just to follow the instructions in the Betty Crocker cookbook. Or is it a Better Homes & Gardens cookbook? Lol, that tells you how often I use it! My mom had this cookbook, and she made sure both my sister and I had one too. My sis said that's how she learned to can and she always has canned tomatoes and other veggies for the winter. :hungry: Aw, I really miss Chickadeee. She ate really healthy natural things like PrairieQueen. They would have had lots to talk about! I still hope she'll show up again. Mars too! And Bewildered, lol! I don't think I've ever really accepted that they're gone for good, so I always hold out hope they'll come back. :crossed:

I did jump up on the scale today. Strange delay.

Here is how I can tomatoes. Cut out the top step part of each tomato. With the tip of a knife, make 3-4 slits through the skin from the top, meeting at the bottom. Put the tomatoes in boiling water for a minute or so then take out. That makes the skins slip right off. Cut the tomatoes up and put them all in a big pot to simmer. Get them nice and hot. Sterilize the jars and lids either by dipping them in boiling water using tongs, or in the dishwasher on hot. Pour the hot juice and tomatoes into the jars using a big funnel. Do not fill too high. Leave at least 1/2 inch of space at the top. Wipe the tops of the jars with a dry paper towel to make sure they are clean and dry. Apply the lid. Cover the jars with a tea towel and wait for the lids to pop. That is when the lids will become concave down into the jar. If this doesn't happen, they are no good. Probably not hot enough. That takes at least 30 minutes or longer. Once they all pop down, add the rings. When you go to use the jar of tomatoes, make sure the lid is still concave. If not, they will be bad.

Here is a video of a woman doing it similar to how I do it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kmTH_q1usI

There is another way to do it where you fill the jars then put them down in a water bath. I don't know how to do that one. You can google "how to can tomatoes" and you will get tons of directions and videos.

https://search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?...&hsimp=yhs-001

Once you do it, you become a pro at it. It's not hard. It's good to have a helper, but our ancestors did this with no help! DH helps me.

PrairieQueen 05-09-2016 07:24 PM

Hi Jacqui and Carol Sue! No news from bro today, which means he hasn't heard anything. I have a hard time believing he has hep...that would mean he got it from a hospital transfusion. I think the symptoms are from a toxic mix of painkillers and antidepressants and alcohol. I am hoping for the best.

Jacqui canning is easy. I don't waste my time canning just plain ole tomatoes. I make pizza sauce, spicy ketchup, taco sauce, salsa, chili sauce, etc. It's just a matter of adding seasonings and cook time. (I never make enough pizza sauce.) I use online recipes and my Ball canning book.

Break - leftover pasta w/ham and asparagus
Snack - guac and seed crackers
Lunch - pizza quesadilla
Dinner - bdubs wings and fries

Jacqui_D 05-10-2016 09:39 AM

Carol Sue, thank you for those instructions and the video! It's a lot easier than I had imagined. We're having a HUGE yard sale (mini flea market, lol) Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and we were going to put out some canning jars and boxes of lids and rings, but I'm going to show your instructions and that video to DH and see if he wants to keep them, just in case his tomato plants actually grow, lol! :thanks:

PrairieQueen, you are a kitchen magician! :wizard: It's a feat for me just not to burn my fried eggs and bacon in the morning, lol! I would think hospitals would screen extremely well for hep in any blood they use for tranfusions, so I have to agree with you. There has to be another cause for his symptoms.

I'm on my way back down on the scale today! :cp: You know, I'm thinking I might weigh a tad bit less in the mornings if I would stop drinking water in the middle of night, but hot flashes are killing me, so that's not an option, lol! :beach:

EDITED TO ADD: I love when my cat helps me type and even posts things for me before I'm ready to post them, lol! :D

PQ my step son makes salsa. We don't eat much salsa here so I never made it. If I buy a jar of salsa for a recipe, what I don't use gets tossed. We just aren't into it. We don't eat pasta often enough to make it worth while for me to make sauce. I love cooking and eating so much I have always wished I had had a big family. Too late for that now. LOL The only reason we can is to use up the tomatoes. We used to plant 12 plants. Now we only plant 8, so we are usually able to keep up with eating them. My biggest problem is I love tomato sandwiches, but now I can't eat all that bread. Now I just slice them and eat them with my scrambled eggs or put them on my bunless burgers.

Jacqui, I don't think you can mess up canning tomatoes, unless the jars don't seal properly. As long as the tomatoes are hot, it will be fine. I usually just cut mine in fourths.

Our entire housing plan has a yard sale every August. We participate when we have enough to make it worth while. We have been putting things in the attic in preparation, but yesterday, DH told me he doesn't want to do the yard sale and wants to just donate everything. I am in favor of that, too. It's too much work for us, and the worst thing is getting rid of all the leftover stuff. The bigger things that are worth a bit we can try to sell on Craigslist. We don't really have much that's worth a lot of money. We got so lucky one year. A dealer came into our driveway at the end of the day and made a deal with DH for everything we had left. That was so wonderful. Nothing to drag back into the house.

Carol Sue, I wish my DH wanted to donate everything. I would jump on that in a heartbeat! My DH has an Etsy store and a booth in an antique shop downtown here, so the better things can be sold through those avenues. The other stuff at the end of the sale, I am bound and determined to sit out on the curb for free. We live on Main Street so it won't stay there long. The only thing that may stop me is the weather! :rain:

PrairieQueen, good reminder! Of course, I may be putting the cart way before the horse. I don't even know if the tomato plants will survive once we get them in the ground, lol!

Back to school today with a sore throat and hardly any voice. . . Allergies flared up last night after spending half the day cleaning the laundry room and dog suite. They're two small rooms that are connected and tend to be the dump station for all things that you bring in but really don't know where to put. I found the perfect place for a lot of it ....the trash. (The dog suite is really the old farmer cleanup room that's been modernized with a toilet and sink.) the rest was organized and put away. I also cleaned the extra fridge and freezer that are in there as well. I found rhubarb from June, 2014.

Oh my goodness, this yard sale is exhausting! The good news is I weighed 176.5 yesterday and 175.5 today. :cp: I don't think that's going to stick though because I had Wendy's chicken nuggets for dinner and usually when I have them, I hold water from the carbs in the breading.

Lol, PrairieQueen, rhubard from 2014? That must have been REALLY buried! I hope your allergies get better! I heard this month was supposed to be the worse in years for allergies. Are your dogs bringing in pollen or is it a dander allergy? :getwell:

Well, Ladies, this will have to be a fly-by. Until my yard sale is over, I have to SLEEP!

PrairieQueen 05-13-2016 07:44 PM

Jacqui it's the pollen doing it to me. I have 100+ trees on our three acres, so just gong outside seems to do it. I'm usually not like thus but, like you said, it's bad this year.

It was the seniors' last day at school today....yeah! Quiet times ahead :) Auction tomorrow and 54 degrees! This weather sucks big time. At least I'll be out of the house. I've got an extra animal this week (DD's "demon seed" dog) which makes a total of 3 dogs/2 cats. DD and boyfriend decided to take a little vacation to San Fran and I got the dog a couple extra days so she wouldn't have to make two trips "to the country." Hubs is finalizing all of our England plans with friends and fam..he's so excited.

Hi Carol Sue!

Break - bacon cheeseburger slider
Lunch - bacon cheeseburger slider
Dinner - Cincinnati chili 3-way spaghetti

Jacqui_D 05-13-2016 09:53 PM

PrairieQueen, oh my, you have your hands full! Yes, this weather is crazy! My DH heard it might freeze tomorrow night! In mid-May! Yay on being so close to the end of school! :woohoo: I've never had allergies, but I think I've developed them as I've gotten older. I can barely breathe out of my nose it's so stuffy! :(

I didn't get to weigh this morning. I was up early and we spent all morning before the yard sale trying to clean up and get things out after last night's storm. I didn't even get to eat breakfast! I always eat breakfast! :hungry: I have no idea what tomorrow is going to be like. It's supposed to be in the 50s and might rain. not good for a yard sale! :dunno:

Hi Carol Sue, Rennie, and Sum!

Wannabehealthy 05-13-2016 10:20 PM

Jacqui, why does it say "Not Found" at the end of your post? LOL

Today I told DH he better go get his tomato plants or he won't get the ones he wants. Good thing, because when we got there they only had 3 packs left. We bought 2 of them. 8 plants total. They are in the basement until Memorial Day weekend. If it's not warm by then we're in big trouble. They mentioned something about snow this week. WHAT???

Hope it doesn't rain on your yard sale, and you make lots of money!!

PrairieQueen 05-15-2016 11:19 AM

Jacqui hope you had a successful yard sale! I really need to have one this summer. When bro comes up he said he'd help me....he has a lot of experience from my mom's :) I told him well take the earnings and go kayaking and a nice meal out as an incentive.

Carol Sue snow! It's supposed to get to 36 overnight here and it's only 46 now :(

I've got to make something today with rhubarb.....I've got another batch ready to cut. I saw a recipe on FB I saved for some squares, so we'll see if it's doable. I made a compete for pork loin with my first cutting a couple of weeks ago.

Yesterday's menu....
Break - cheeseburger slider
Lunch - cheeseburger slider
Dinner - homemade prosciutto pizza, lite beers

I'm almost back down to my pb after an extra long Aunt Flo visit.

Wannabehealthy 05-15-2016 11:55 AM

When I was a child, 6 or so, we had rhubard growing in our yard. I don't know where it came from. I don't think my parents were into planting back then. We used to cut it, stick it in the sugar bowl, and eat it. Mom never made anything with it. Never had it since. I don't even remember what it tasted like, I just liked it because it had sugar on it. LOL

Buh Bye Aunt Flo! See you not too soon!

Jacqui_D 05-16-2016 12:30 AM

PrairieQueen, I always dread having a yard sale, and then I'm glad I did it as I see the stuff leave, but afterwards, I am so exhausted! And that's where I am now. It was a very successful sale, despite the weather. It always looked like it would storm but never did during the sale, only overnight to make us have to clean up a wet mess in the mornings! :rain: And Saturday was Cold! :brr: Thanks! I hope your brother and you can have your yard sale this summer! :crossed:

Carol Sue, lol, that sounds so like what a child would do! You should try rhubarb again (with or without sugar) and see if jogs your tastebuds' memory! :D The end of my post said "not found"? I don't see that! Thanks for the well wishes on my yard sale! IT went well! :cp: But I am SO tired! :faint:

I have not weighed the last couple of mornings. Too busy. I went overboard on Carb Day again, so I'm dreading getting on the scale in the morning! Oh wait, it's past midnight. It still feels like Sunday night to me. I've slept most the day so now I'm awake! :dunno:

PrairieQueen 05-16-2016 08:45 PM

Evening all! DD's demon seed pup has gone home. We had a nice family dinner when she and boyfriend came to fetch the pooch.......lasagne, spinach salad, rhubarb squares (I skipped this). Eight days of school left but still unseasonably chilly here. My peaches survived the cold snap, as well as all the other "food" growing. Now it's TV time.

Break - sausage mcmuffin
Lunch - Amy's bean/cheese burrito
Dinner - lasagne, spinach salad

Wannabehealthy 05-17-2016 09:35 AM

Jacqui, now I can't find the post that said "Not Found." It was right in the middle, the way that ad shows up on the last post. I wish I had copied it, now, so I could show you. LOL

Glad to hear that your yard sale went well. Part of me is a little disappointed that we are not going to participate in ours. I would really like to get a lot of the junk out of the house and I don't trust DH to go along with the donating. I know he will still want to go to Goodwill, but I don't think I'm going to buy any more for me until we get rid of some of this stuff we have. I really hate having to bring the unsold things back into the house. Right now they are out of sight, but I still know they're there.

I really don't want to try the rhubarb. I don't want to add any more foods to my list of "likes." I like too many already! LOL

Jacqui_D 05-17-2016 06:57 PM

Lol, Carol Sue, I understand about liking too many foods! :D I put leftover stuff from the yard sale out on the curb, but we have so much stuff that most of it didn't even make it out to the yard sale! Now, my DH is talking about having another one in August or September. Ugh. :(

PrairieQueen, brr, it did get cold! :brr: I'm ready for warm weather now! :beach:

I haven't weighed the last few days and that never turns out well. I always end up eating more than I want to when I'm not keeping track. I made it down to Tennessee today. It's so nice seeing my Dad. :) BUT I forgot my scale! I was trying to remember everything, but the scale didn't even cross my mind! (Freudian? )

love2b150 05-17-2016 07:13 PM

Hello Ladies

I am trying to come back from ....

I decided I would do a restart on 5/9 weighing in at 180.7. As of today I am not far from that but I haven't been putting forth much effort either. I'm trying to get myself together thought wise to take better care of me. Today I was off and decided to at least try to eat properly. I can say I did well since it's bedtime for me so I won't be eating anything else :) I skimmed through the post ...

PrairieQueen I pray your brothers treatment goes well.

Jacqui glad your yard sale went well :) I just read your signature, ... so hoping for a brand new ending :)

Carol Sue I'm with you. I don't need to like another food, I like too many as it is :)

I need to get rid of all of the things that I can't fit. I pretty much easily get rid of the things that I don't use with ease but clothing and shoes seem to take forever

Good night

PrairieQueen 05-17-2016 08:10 PM

Hey Rennie! Just a fly by tonight....seven days if school to go :)

Break - sausage mcmuffin
Lunch - 1/2 serving lasagne
Snack - skinny popcorn
Dinner - chicken quesadilla

PrairieQueen 05-19-2016 08:22 AM

Good morning ladies (and gentlemen)! I am draaaaaagging today. I'm so burned out with school, but the good news is I have all my finals ready and next year's beginning stuff, etc. etc. My room/lab is close to being clean. But I have no enthusiasm, and the kids have even less. Tomorrow is the last instructional day before exams start on Monday....yeah!!!

Yesterday's menu....

Break - sausage mcmuffiin
Lunch - Amy's bean/cheese burrito
Dinner - beef barbacoa quesadilla w/guac & sour cream (from a Chipotle copycat recipe I adapted for my Instant Pot), black beans w/onion & cilantro

Wannabehealthy 05-19-2016 10:42 AM

PQ, Even though I'm looking back very, very far, I can remember the last days of school. The excitement to be out and free for the summer. But in the fall, I was also excited to start back. I loved getting new pencils, tablets, and other supplies. I missed seeing all the other kids and really looked forward to it. By Thanksgiving, the bloom was off the rose. LOL

Rennie, I cannot part with clothes. It doesn't matter if they fit or not. Funny, but I never have many that are too big. LOL I go through them about twice a year and get rid of anything that's out of style, but never get rid of things that are too tight. Nope! Might lose that weight some day. LOL
