It rained a bit on our 4th, but we got our cook-out in before the rain, and the fireworks after the rain. Not a total wash out.

Went to see the sleep doctor today and I have to go for another sleep study. I didn't want to, but you gotta do what ya gotta do. Ya know? DH isn't happy, but he will get over it. I think he will miss me. They don't allow sleepovers. LOL There is such a thing as a home study, but for what I need, I have to go to the lab.

PrairieQueen 07-07-2016 06:02 PM

Evening all! I hope we've all recovered from the holidays.

Rennie I didn't see any zoodles at TJ's today. They did have the frozen zucchini fries, but I passed. I like to do those myself. I did get some riced cauliflower to try when I make my bourbon chicken this weekend.

I also made some fried polenta tonight with garlic...oh, my! I love it :) and so does hubs. I made some extra for my breakfast tomorrow. I don't know how "carby" they are, but they have to be better than potatoes.

Carol Sue good luck with your study. I did one last year because my snoring was awful. No apnea, but my oxygen levels go down by 50% whenever I end up on my back.

Break - roast beef
Snack - two kiwis
Lunch - roast beef, balsamic potatoes
Snack - white grapes
Dinner - New York strip, polenta, asparagus

spanky 07-09-2016 09:17 AM

Hi. I'm doing LCHF and looking for a daily forum. Am I in the right place?

Wannabehealthy 07-09-2016 10:29 AM

Hi Spanky! Most on this thread do not do LCHF. We all follow the reduced carb plan of our choice, but welcome anyone regardless of the plan they choose to fallow, as long as they don't try to force their beliefs on others. Jump on in and tell us more about yourself! We can all learn from each other.

Wannabehealthy 07-09-2016 10:39 AM

PQ, before diagnosis, I knew that I woke up gasping for air at times and DH told me that I stopped breathing. The night before my heart surgery I was in the hospital and my monitor went off. I asked the nurse what it was, and he said it tells them that I'm not breathing. After surgery when they tried to wean me off the oxygen at night they couldn't because I would stop breathing without it. So they sent me home with oxygen for sleep, and scheduled me for the study. I still do not sleep as well as I'd like to, but much better than I did before. Did they do anything to help with your low oxygen? Does that still happen?

I think I will try to stay up all night the night before to make sure I sleep at the study. It's hard to sleep in a strange bed with all those wires connected. LOL

PrairieQueen 07-09-2016 03:10 PM

Hi Carol Sue! He just told me to sew tennis balls into the backs of my pajamas :) to keep me off my back. I seem to be more aware of the back thing now in my sleep , so hubs rarely has to roll me over (snoring). My reg doctor told me I have a very small air opening. I forgot the exact term but she showed me on a website. Losing the weight seems to have helped a little, but I was an occasional snorter when I was super thin.

PrairieQueen 07-09-2016 03:20 PM

Afternoon all! I finally hit my personal best on the scale this morn...138.8. I hope I can keep it going in the down direction. Mother is up from Florida this week and at my house for the weekend. We did some auctioning and mooching around town this morning and are sitting out in the fantastic weather reading and surfing the web. Yesterday, I went to the big city for my son's annual birthday lunch (just us) and had some yummy hipster food :) They think they invented everything, so I had to give sonny boy a lesson in real Italian food, since that's what we were supposedly having :chef:

Yesterday...

Break - leftover polenta, grapes
Lunch - pepperoni/Gorgonzola pizza, fried risotto balls
Dinner - homemade prosciutto/balsamic onion pizza
Snack - adult beverages

love2b150 07-09-2016 07:18 PM

It rained so hard here on the fourth that my son thought he wasn't gonna be able to do anything. I told him, "Boy for as long as I can remember it has rained on the 4th!" of course it ended up being a beautiful hot day :)

Carol Sue I think I want to do a sleep study. My fitbit says I have a ton of restless sleep. Even when I wore my Samsung Gear it said the same thing.

PrairieQueen thanks for the update on the zoodles , gotta look up polenta :) PrairieQueen maybe that is what is wrong with my husband. When he lays on his back I hunch the mess out of him, smh. He snores so loud, argh! Ms. PQ I am so jealous LOL but I am so so happy for you. You GO GIRLY :high:

Spanky :welcome: to the thread :) You are in the right place. Low Carb is Low Carb. Please do join us :) I'm not following any plan really at the moment. I try to eat low carb most days but I'm not gonna lie, sometimes it does not happen :) Our Mother-Hen Jacqui would love to see a new face when she returns. How is the LCHF going for you? I'd be interested in seeing a few of your day to day menus if you don't mind sharing :) Again we welcome you.

Rosinante 07-10-2016 10:14 AM

PQ ~ well done on your PB!!

I'm just back from a few days holiday in Blackpool - by the sea! The first couple of days I stuck very strictly to my low-carb approach but it started to feel more penitential than fun, so I let it unwind slightly - culminating in a fabulous "all you can eat" Chinese buffet in Manchester with my Sortofpartner last night! Yum!

Will try and try harder tomorrow :)

PrairieQueen 07-10-2016 05:44 PM

Evening all! I thought today was going to be difficult to stay on plan but I did it. We had brunch/lunch and i ordered off lunch menu and brought half home :) mother and I then went antiquing/mooching in a place called Waynesville, known for their shoos and Sauerkraut Festival. I've got a lasagne in the oven and plan on having a beer soon....

Yesterday....
Break - slice pizza
Lunch - peanut butter sandwich, 1/2 cup black bean chili
Snack - white grapes
Dinner - pork saltimbocca, polenta, fried green tomatoes

Today.....
Break - 2 slices bacon, fried egg, toast
Lunch - 1/2 Reuben, Saratoga chips
Dinner - lasagne

Wannabehealthy 07-11-2016 08:55 AM

PQ congratulations on the personal best! You do so well following your plan. You deserve the success!

I have heard about the tennis balls in the back of the pjs but never tried it. I spend most of my sleep time on my side and it works well for me.

Rennie, a sleep study is a good idea. You would need to check to see if you need to be referred by a doctor. I didn't need that, just scheduled the appointment on my own. Also, google the CPAP masks that are available and see if you could sleep wearing one of them. It's a big change. There is also a device you wear in your mouth. I think that gets fitter by a dentist.

Rosinante, how are you doing? I hope you're feeling well. It sounds like you had a nice little trip. The chinese buffet probably didn't do a lot of harm since you stayed on plan otherwise.

love2b150 07-11-2016 06:12 PM

Rosinante glad you did decided to have enjoy the Buffet :)

PrairieQueen, yum on you lunch yesterday. After I check my sugar I think I'll make one on a flax/bran sandwich thin :) Did you make the black bean chili?

Carol Sue, I am taking notes for my next doctor's appointment so I will definitely talk to her about it, thanks :)

PrairieQueen 07-11-2016 08:18 PM

Evening! Mother just left for her brother's house. Back to normal routine tomorrow. She did really well with her eating while here and only ate what I ate....no crapola. She said she's motivated again, so Im crossing my fingers.

Rennie I did make the chili and it was really good. I tweaked a recipe I found online. Mom and hubs really like it, so it's a keeper. I skipped the shredded cheese since it was lunch.

Break - half Reuben sandwich
Lunch - leftover pork saltimboca
Snack - 2 kiwis
Dinner - fettuccini w/basil-pine nut pesto and grilled chicken

love2b150 07-12-2016 10:36 AM

PrairieQueen my cyber-wishyouwerenear-chef :) please do share your tweaked recipe because I know it'll be healthy ... You know what's funny I was at work Sunday and at around 4-5am I was thinking man I'd love a good bowl of chili :)

my eating has been crappy nothing good to report

Jacqui_D 07-12-2016 11:03 AM

Spanky :welcome: This is definitely the right place! This is for anyone doing a low- moderate- or slow-carb diet! We'd be happy to have you join us!

Hi Ladies! I am still staying very busy and I've been terrible with my diet lately. Perhaps this is just my way, to diet for months and then go off and back on, the classic yo-yo. It's a mental thing. I just can't seem to stay on a diet at all times. I feel like I have to have a break to get up the gumption to go again, even though the Slow Carb Diet is not hard to stick to! It's just a matter of wanting a break. I know I'm going to regret it. My weight climbs back up so quickly. But it is what it is, lol! I hope you are all doing well! I haven't had a chance to go back and read posts yet. I just scrolled the last couple of pages and saw a new name. I am working hard organize my daily routine and I have to get this forum on the list because I need y'all! And I need to get back to slow-carbing!

PrairieQueen 07-12-2016 07:46 PM

Hi all! Welcome newcomers......welcome back Jacqui!

I had a new pb this morning and probably lost it tonight after eating (fried) chicken tenders and (fried) pub fries w/bacon and sauce. But I really wanted them. I did do close to two hours in the garden today. We'll see what the scale says tomorrow and Thursday. We had a great time chatting with an old friend we hadn't seen in awhile.

Break - 4 slices bacon, 2 kiwis
Lunch - leftover pasta w/pesto & chicken
Dinner - 3 chicken tenders, pub fries, lite beer

Jacqui_D 07-12-2016 08:35 PM

Thanks PrairieQueen! Hopefully your scale will be kind in the morning! :crossed:

Wannabehealthy 07-12-2016 10:23 PM

Welcome back, Jacqui! We really missed you!

Jacqui_D 07-13-2016 02:23 PM

Thanks Carol Sue! I miss y'all too! I'm trying to get back to eating well today, and I've actually added 3FC to my written daily schedule so despite being busy, I'm going to try to make it here each day! I'm not ready to step on the scale just yet but I had my usual for breakfast: 2 fried eggs, 2 slices of bacon, yogurt, and water with Mio. No toast (which I have been splurging and having while off my diet)! We'll see if I can get back on track! My biggest problem of course is sweets. When I'm busy, I'm stressed, and when I'm stressed, I want sweets. I'm going to try to stay away from them today. :crossed:

Jacqui_D 07-13-2016 10:11 PM

Well so much for not blowing my diet today! I had a salad for dinner but I had no lunch and ate mint chocolate for snacks! :frypan: Okay, well, tomorrow's a new day. I'll give it another go then! :dust:

Rosinante 07-14-2016 03:23 AM

I got right back on the Harcombe Diet horse as soon as I was back from my trip to Blackpool. I know I'm still over-doing the dairy, especially cream, but I'm sticking with it until I get next week's scary blood test and results come back. I know we shouldn't use food as an emotional crutch but I'll worry about that once I get those results.

Spent a night at my bro and sil's. Took supplies of food up (for the three of us, not just for me!) because they eat a lot of pasta and bread, and one slice of bread and I'm lost..... It worked very well, although the crusty bread and butter they ate with their salad looked amazing. However, I was able to resist it, and the ice cream they had for dessert ~ having made such a big deal of bringing "special" food, I'd have felt stupid caving into icecream.... and bread, and pasta, and crunchy snacks and dips......

Onwards.

Jacqui_D 07-14-2016 09:31 AM

Rosinante, great job! :cp: Temptation is so difficult and you did so well! Wishing you the best with your tests! :goodluck:

Hi Carol Sue, PrairieQueen and Rennie!

So the morning has started out well. We were out of bacon or ham, so I just had eggs, yogurt, and Mio water for breakfast. I hope I can get back on track today! :crossed:

Wannabehealthy 07-14-2016 09:59 AM

Jacqui, I have my Little Big Bread in the freezer for those days when I just need a slice of toast with my eggs, but that's less than once a week. That bread lasts me a very long time, as it's in the freezer, out of sight. I could eat the whole loaf at one sitting, no lie. I start out every day so good, with my eggs. I have stopped buying bacon because I'm not really crazy about it for one thing, too salty, and it seems to raise our blood pressure. I have been trying to do some intermittent fasting, but I just can't go without breakfast. I love eggs so much and feel that without all the other things that usually accompany them, they are good diet food. It seems that once I eat breakfast my appetite is on a roll for the rest of the day. I was up by 6 this morning and didn't eat until 9:30, so I did delay it somewhat. When I lived alone, my intermittent fasting was eat breakfast and lunch, then nothing until the next day. I am not big on dinner, but it's the main deal for DH. So here I am, eating what I want, then eating what he wants. No wonder I'm fat. I try to eat a very small dinner, but that doesn't always work. Some women on another forum are doing this 24 hour fasting thing, from 2PM to 2PM. I feel so inadequate that I can't accomplish that.
It seems that no matter how hard I try, every day I end up eating something that spikes my blood sugar, even knowing that it's going to happen.

Rosinante
, the first time I heard of Harcombe was from you, but I recently saw it mentioned in an article I was reading about weight loss. I'm glad it works well for you.

PrairieQueen 07-14-2016 05:49 PM

Afternoon all!

Carol Sue there is absolutely no way I could go 24 hours without food! Unless, I was sick or in the hospital.you are NOT inadequate.

Yesterday, I walked three miles with my neighbor friend (neighbor meaning one mile away). I also managed an hour in the garden. My calories were over 500 cal deficit but the scale didn't move today....prob because I'm sore and retaking water from overdoing it lately (physically, salty, carby wise).

Yesterday...
Break - leftover chicken pasta
Snack - 2 kiwis
Lunch - chef salad
Dinner - country ribs, sriracha mac & cheese (ricotta/cheddar), salad

Today....
Break - Mac and cheese
Snack - 2 kiwis
Lunch - chef salad
Dinner - shredded beef enchilada, Mac and cheese

Jacqui_D 07-14-2016 07:21 PM

PrairieQueen, good job on the walk with the neighbor! My walking has completely fallen away. But i'm lifting a lot of furniture, lol! :lifter:

Carol Sue, oh my word, who wants to fast for 24 hours at our age? Lol! No, life's too short for that as far as I'm concerned, haha! I'm having trouble staying on plan too. I know when I'm ready, I will pick it up again and be 100%, but obviously, I'm not ready. Still, I'm going to keep trying, with good intentions each day, until one day it finally sticks. Today I had a bologna sandwich on soft white bread! :dizzy: Way off plan! We're having steak for dinner.

I just got back from an emergency run to the vet. (Thank goodness for evening hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays!) My 15-year-old cat, Baby, has UTI problems and it's so bad, they are going to test her for cancer. It's possible she has a sensitivity to the meds they've been giving her and it's made matters worse or it could be she has kidney stones. In any event, the vet changed the meds (I originally took her in at the end of June for a bladder infection, which was when they gave her the original meds. Those ended 8 days ago) and I'm hoping that's the issue. I can't imagine the pain she is in and yet I didn't know because cats hide it so well. She was playing just this morning! The vet gave her an injection to get the new antibiotics and pain/inflammation meds into her system and working quickly, and I should get the first round of test results tomorrow evening. I am not ready to lose yet another pet. I know they have all lived to ripe old ages, but I need Baby to live for a few more years.

Rosinante 07-15-2016 03:23 AM

Jacqui D, Wannabehealthy, thank you for your kind words. I'm glad that I'm able to resist temptation but I'm beginning to wonder if The Harcombe Diet is for me - I'm really not losing weight on it. Oy.

Jacqui D, I hope the injection makes your Baby cat more comfortable, and that the tests are all good :)

Wannabehealthy 07-15-2016 08:28 AM

Roninante, I have heard people making similar comments about so many different diet plans. You start out losing, then it slows, and the weight loss stops. I know that every time you lose you have to lower your calorie intake as a smaller body burns fewer calories, just being alive. That's the killer part of weight loss, once you lose the weight, you get punished by having to eat less the rest of your life. Maybe we need to switch around a bit to keep our bodies from getting used to what we're doing, like they often suggest with exercise. I have heard some people say they up their calories a bit to get their bodies losing again. It sound like just the opposite would be true, but they say it works. Look at Jacqui. She has the one big cheat day each week, and when she is sticking to her plan the other six days, her loss continues faithfully. It seems to be the same with 5:2 and also JUDDD, where they alternate high and low calorie days.

Mind you, I am telling you things I hear other people discuss, as I don't seem to lose more than a few lbs no matter what I do. I am a poor example.

Jacqui, hope kitty does better with the new meds.

Jacqui_D 07-15-2016 02:30 PM

Thanks Rosinante and Carol Sue. My cat seems like she feels better, but I thought that before. I really hope she does. I am just praying for good news on the test results. :crossed:

Hiya PrairieQueen and Rennie!

I am doing well to this point on my diet plan today. I had eggs, bacon, yogurt, and Mio water for breakfast, and for lunch we went to a local pizza place with friends and I had a salad and water. So far so good! :cp:

Jacqui_D 07-15-2016 07:30 PM

So Baby's test results came back and they indicated a very bad bladder infection, as we already knew, but something was off too so they are doing additional tests and I should hear back from them on Monday. I ended up having a large hamburger and baked beans for dinner but I had the burger in a bun. I just can't seem to resist the temptation right now. :dunno:

Jacqui_D 07-16-2016 07:44 AM

Today would normally be my Carb Day so I don't know if I will even try to attempt to stay away from carbs today. I hoping then tomorrow I will be ready to start anew!

Have a great day and great weekend, all! :sunny:

Wannabehealthy 07-16-2016 10:09 AM

Jacqui, it can be hard to get back on track after falling off. You are off to a good start, in spite of your carby dinner. You ate similar to CALP, having your carbs and one meal a day. I know that's not your plan, but it works the same way. Don't get discouraged about it. Just do the best you can with each meal and soon you will be back to Slow Carb the way it should be done. I think I wrote the book on "falling off the wagon." LOL

Hope Kitty is OK. Can't imagine what else they might find. We took Rusty to the vet for a rabies shot and they weighed him. When we got him, he weight 11.8, almost 12 lbs. Now he weighs 16 lbs. LOL Like mommy like doggy. LOL 4 lbs is a lot for a small dog to gain, but in all honesty, he was way too thin when we got him. His ribs were showing and his spine looked deformed. I think he has filled out nicely, but better not be gaining any more. DH feeds him too much junk food.

PrairieQueen 07-16-2016 02:11 PM

Afternoon all! Sending good vibes for good test results Jacqui and Rosinante :grouphug:

Jacqui I can't seem to stay away from the carbs either! That, along with the salt and sore muscles, has made me feel kind of blah lately. I replenished my vitamins/supplements this week after not taking them for several months (I'd been taking them over a year). My hair seems to be thinner the past couple of months as well. Hubs thinks I'm nuts, stylist thinks it's resting, I think it's because of lack of vitamins. I don't always eat a well-balanced diet, as well as trying to have a calorie deficit. Time will tell.

Yesterday,
Break - shredded beef enchilada
Lunch - homemade baguette (2"), Irish butter, 2 prosciutto paninos
Dinner - salami/ham/cheese pizza
Evening out - 3 glasses moscato :sssh:

Jacqui_D 07-16-2016 07:07 PM

Thanks PrairieQueen! Oh, I am so sluggish without my vitamins. If I miss a day, I can feel it. I think it's a great idea for you to get back on them. My bet is on you noticing a difference in the thickness of your hair once you get them back into your system! I always feel better without the excess carbs too, but I'm just not having any luck on that front yet. I just don't have the mental willpower yet! Hopefully soon!

PrairieQueen 07-16-2016 10:55 PM

Evening! We're back from seeing a community theater performance of "Cabaret" at the local college. It wasn't their best performance, but it was still quite good. Hubs and I are having a night cap in our "fancy" going out attire. And I am going to NYC for four days next week with my daughter for a girls' getaway. I was pretty good yesterday and today, so I'm doing an official weigh-in tomorrow.....fingers crossed.

Break - leftover slice of pizza
Snack - strawberries
Lunch - 2 prosciutto paninos, cup of veggie soup
Snack - bowl of skinny popcorn
Dinner - 2 skinless chicken legs, roasted potatoes, salad
Nightcap - bourbon/bitter lemon

Wannabehealthy 07-17-2016 07:54 AM

I don't believe in taking vitamins, really. I believe in getting them from food (vegetables and fruit) as they also provide fiber and other nutrients, such as antioxidants and phytoneutrients. The vegetables fill you up with very few calories. This is what I learned from reading Dr Joel Fuhrman, although it hasn't done anything for my weight. I don't notice any difference with or without them, with one exception. When I heard that kale is such a powerhouse, I started eating it several times a week, with mushrooms, onions, and garlic. After a while I noticed that my nails started growing faster and stronger. I have never had nice nails. Always weak and splitting. I noticed the toenails first. I had to keep cutting them. Then I started to notice that the pain in my hip went away. I used to get terrible pain if I tried to lay on my right side. After starting eating the kale concoction it went away. If I let up on the kale, it comes back. Go back to the kale, it goes away. It can't be my imagination, although many people have told me it must be. I have always had extremely thick hair, and always wished that it would thin out a bit so I don't notice any effect on my hair. Maybe the nutrients go to where you need them the most. Me with the nail, and PQ with the hair.

Having said all that, if taking vitamins is doing something for you, then continue taking them! Other than too many fat soluable ones, they can't hurt you.

Jacqui_D 07-17-2016 09:00 AM

Carol Sue, I absolutely believe the kale is having a positive effect on you. I started taking vitamins when I was deficient in vitamin D and had to supplement and also when I was looking for help with constipation and decided to try probiotics. Those two things led me to the GNC store. At first I was on prescription vitamin D but when it transitioned to over-the-counter vitamin D, I decided to go with a vitamin pack instead of choosing vitamin D alone. Like you with kale, I notice the difference when I miss taking them!

PrairieQjueen, good luck on the weigh-in! :crossed:

Jacqui_D 07-17-2016 09:18 PM

Tomorrow's another day, lol! :dizzy:

ssaabaa 07-17-2016 10:59 PM

I am new here

Hi 🙋 I am saba 52 years old want to lose weight and to get fit

PrairieQueen 07-18-2016 09:38 AM

Morning all! Welcome ssaabaa! It's a rainy Monday here and the scale still Hasnt moved! My body seems to love the high 130s/140 no matter how much gardening and calorie counting. . . Maybe I need to get the hula hoop out! I did take some ibuprofen last night for muscle soreness. I'm taking it easy today....just light housework and tidying up (if I can get away from HGTV).

Yesterday....
Break - ham, leftover roasted potatoes
Snack - strawberries
Lunch - ham/cheese sandwich
Snack - grapes
Dinner - skirt steak, salad, fried green tomatoes

Jacqui_D 07-18-2016 09:56 AM

:welcome: Saba! This is a great place to be for weight loss! Good luck!

PrairieQueen, I'm sure your sore muscles and even taking ibuprofen has something to do with your scale not budging. Hang in there! :goodscale:

Hi Carol Sue, Rennie, and Rosinante! I hope you're all doing well! :flow2:

As for me, I'm trying not to overeat but I'm not sticking to slow carb right now. Just not ready to get going again I guess! I'm also not ready to get on the scale yet!
