Haha, not me, but I looked it up and I liked it :)

Almost two weeks and down 9lbs! I could not believe it when I looked at the scale! I'm sure it mostly water weight, but it's a good start. Meals have been good. Mostly eggs, chicken, steak and tons of veggies. I found a really good Mexican restaurant near my work and had a "naked burrito"- all the good stuff without the tortilla :) Body balance class tonight and spinning tomorrow night.

Have a great day!!

Congrats motivated! I met my (2nd) husband in England after accidentally meeting him online six months prior (long story). I was on vacation with an informal group of educators and agreed to meet him while there. We hit it off and had a trans-Atlantic romance for a year before we got married and he moved here. He's just now applied for citizenship :) Our 10-year anniversary is this coming June.

Hey Carol Sue! Hope your numbers are staying under control. I requested a reevaluation from my life insurance company and got preferred status! My monthly premium was cut almost in half :) However, my weight loss is soooo slow now, but I know it is because I dont have much ledt to lose. My goal was to be under 130 by Halloween, but I know it's going to be more like Christmas. I'm not getting enough exercise.

Tonight, hubs and I are going to see The Sound of Music in the big city. A friend of my son's has to fill empty seats when sales are low or they can't sell turned-in tickets from season-pass holders. Son's landlord bar tends there and invited us to have drinks on her when we arrive, so she can finally meet us. So, I get to dress up a little in new clothes.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Yesterday.....
Brunch - chicken thigh, sweet potato fries, salad
Snack -herb popcorn
Dinner - prosciutto/red onion pizza w/balsamic reduction (so good!)
Snack - Bud Select 55 x 2

Wannabehealthy 10-09-2016 01:06 PM

I just looked up that song and it was from back in my hay day...1971. I'm really showing my age. LOL

PQ, my blood sugar is coming down again, but so far, not my weight. I am working on making sure I'm hungry before I eat. I get into the habit of eating by the clock, which isn't good for me.

Good job on getting reevaluated for insurance!

Rosinante 10-12-2016 04:13 AM

MIA again but tiptoeing in.....

Lunch- Mexican salad- chicken, lettuce, guac, onions, beans
Dinner- Salmon, salad, glass of red wine
Exercise- normal 45 minutes walk to work and 30 minutes at the gym

PrairieQueen 10-15-2016 12:23 PM

Happy weekend everyone! It's lunchtime and I'm still in my pjs........we invited a work friend and family of hubs over last night for a bonfire. He has three kids under nine and I was tired when they left :) and slept in this morn. I've cooked, watched cooking shows and read Christmas mags. I need to get ready and do a few chores today. Hubs and I are going to the outlets tonight or tomorrow for candles, perfume/after shave, and clothes, of course. He's lost almost twenty pounds himself and more of his clothes are too big.

I hit a new low last week, so things are looking up. I ate at maintenance three days straight and started dropping again :) our bodies are funny machines.....

Hope everyone is doing well.....

souvenirdarling 10-16-2016 02:13 PM

Hi all! I'm settling into an extremly low-carb and higher fat diet to kick the sugar that's creeped into my life the last few months. While I'm still on the lower side of my spectrum, I've gained a few pounds since my lowest weight in June (because heart break does that me.) I'm feeling game and ready - and actually was really inspired by a "big think" video on youtube about weightloss and giving the body a chance to experience it's own winter.

My goal in the next month is to relax, better manage my stress and sleep, increase my insulin sensitivity. It's hard to break the eating for comfort, or because "it's time" rather than hunger.

Wannabehealthy 10-16-2016 09:38 PM

Come on in Rosinante!! Let's hear all about it. LOL

PQ, doing great still losing! Nice that Hubs has lost, too, and needs new clothes. I'm just looking forward to fitting into some of my old ones. I didn't get to wear them very long. Hope you had fun at the outlets.

Motivated
, that's something about meeting DH in Las Vegas. Were you both there on vacation? I can't remember where you said you were from originally, if you said. My brain is very old and tired.

Welcome SouvenirDarling. Come on in and tell us more. It sounds like you are ready to get down to it with low carb high fat. I have a very hard time eating only when hungry.

Haha, my brain feels old and tired :) I'm originally from Connecticut. We met in Vegas on a business trip as we are both in the same industry. Love at first site and went back and forth for a year before we were married :)

I had a business lunch yesterday so I messed up slightly with my diet. White wine, lobster, fries, but it was so good. Back on track today and headed to the gym after work :)

souvenirdarling 10-18-2016 12:45 PM

motivated1977: oh love at first sight :) it's lovely to hear those stories! How was the show???

So far so good on day 4. I'm sticking to a 7-8 hour eating window, but I'm wondering if that's something I should save for later, along with fasting, once I've gotten a handle on the cravings.
That said, though, the cravings haven't been bad - I've said no to many a temptation. I'm eating a spoon of coconut oil when the desire hits, to see what kind of a difference it makes on my body/weight/mood/skin. I'm not particularly tracking my food intake.

I was planning on keeping my social events on the downlow to help resist temptation, but I'm planning a date for Friday night... and I'm thinking I'll plan it for *after* dinner. Genius!!

motivated1977 10-19-2016 03:21 AM

souvenirdarling: Yes, I didn't believe in love at first sight until I experienced it :)

Sounds like you are doing really well on your plan; well done! I have some cravings, but I'm writing them down and save them for my cheat day; sort of like deferred eating :)

Have a great day!

Wannabehealthy 10-22-2016 08:30 AM

Motivated, that's a really good idea to save your cravings for cheat day if you're able to do it. They say that if you have a craving, wait 20 minutes, and most of the time the craving will go away. Most people can't wait the 20 minutes. I think that's because the craving comes while the food is right there in front of you. When I lived alone, I would get a craving for ice cream. I always bought my ice cream at the little convenience store down the street because they sold individual servings and I didn't have to bring a big carton of ice cream into the house. Most of the time, just the thought of having to go out, get into the car and drive to the store made me decide I didn't want it that badly. Back then, food was very low on my budget so I hardly ever had much in the house. Now, the house is always very well stocked. We could live for a couple weeks without leaving the house if we had to. That's not always a good thing.

I always like to tell the story of my sister-in-law. Years ago she did this 6:1 plan and lost 97 lbs. She stayed on a strict plan S-F, and on Saturday they went out for dinner to their favorite restaurant and she ordered whatever she wanted, and a pitcher of beer. This was before anyone ever heard of this being called a plan. She said she could get through the week of deprivation knowing that she could have whatever she wanted on Saturday. I think this is where these plans come from. Someone does it and it works, and they tell someone else, who tells someone else, and before you know it, someone is writing a book about it and making lots of money. LOL

Good job, Souvenir! An eating window can be good or bad. Some people who try to eat within a window eat more within the window because they know they have to stop after their window closes. That's not good. But the longer time period between your last meal of the day and the first meal the next day can be very beneficial. It all depends on the person. If it works for you, go for it!

How's it going PQ? Still maintaining? Or losing more?

Rosinante
, come on, get back here and fess up! We know you want to! Ha Ha

Me? I'm doing terrible, thanks for asking. LOL I've just been an eating machine. Weight is back over 200, blood sugar is back up. All H*LL has broken loose. But reading the thread and seeing the success of other is giving me some encouragement that I can do this!!

PrairieQueen 10-23-2016 12:00 PM

Hi everyone! Carol Sue I gained a couple of pounds this week for Aunt Flo's visit. I've not fasted all week but stayed within a deficit most days and at maintenance the others. I always seem to be able to lose a couple of pounds right after AF leaves so fingers crossed. I've not been exercising at all this week though, except for normal chores.

Hubs and I visited the local wine shop yesterday for the first time. It's been open a year and we'd heard good things. We walked out with five bottles! She gave us a mini tasting based on what we to,d her about our likes/dislikes........the owner was spot on with the choices. I made egg rolls from scratch today. We already had some for lunch and I put the rest in the freezer. We had some yummy New York strips for dinner just night.

My friend is having her mastectomy tomorrow, and my bro is having his back surgery. I can't visit him, but I'll be stopping in to see her after school.

See ya!

milacikova 10-25-2016 12:49 PM

Hi All,

I've been reading up on some of you;) In a good way, of course. Since the Dukan thread seems to be slightly dormant, are there any Dukan "professionals" on here who could tell me if it's possible to eat too FEW veggies?

I had expected my tomatoes to be amazing after finishing the attack phase, but I wasn't exactly blown away at lunch, so only had one for dinner with my mackerel, plus meat loaf slice. Is it true that you should strive for a meat to veg ratio of 2:1? It's what I read in a book by someone who lost over 30kg with Dukan.

Would dearly appreciate any input from you Ladies!

Much obliged:)
Mila

love2b150 10-28-2016 06:08 PM

H Everyone

Carol Sue my friend thank you for reaching out

PrairieQueen, Rosinante

Jacqui ... Mother-Hen I pray all is well

I haven't been OP for a very long time ... scale numbers rising, smh ... but I did go for a walk with a co-worker yesterday (a little over 3 miles) so that's a start. She's busy today and tomorrow so we are resuming next week with a goal of 3 to 4 days ... if I get myself together ... I'll check in

Wannabehealthy 10-29-2016 03:06 PM

Good to know all is well with you, Rennie, other than the stall....which we all experience now and then. Hope you get back on track and we see more of you. They say misery loves company.....and I am not doing well with this, either. I wish Jacqui would come back. I do miss her. I hope she's OK.

PQ, pray that both surgeries went well for your loved ones. There are always risks involved, no matter who the doctor. Glad to hear you're continuing on plan.

Rosinante, I see you peeking!!

Mila, I used to have the Dukan book but it seems that it got donated the last time I donate my books, which I do periodically. I think it's a good plan, healthy, and easy to understand, but has the same risk of falling off the wagon as every other plan. I just googled and it seems there is a lot of information out there about it, but no active forums that I could see. I don't know why not many people follow the plan. The attack phase is all protein, up to 5 days or so, depending on how much weight you have to lose. Then you start protein and veggie days, alternating between that and the all protein days until you reach your desired weight. You are also supposed to eat the oat bran every day, too, which I never did. I think that is for fiber. You can do this on the schedule of 1/1 or 2/2, up to 5/5, Which means do 5 days of all protein then do 5 days of protein and veggies. I do know from other plans that alternating like that keeps your body from becoming adapted to one particular meal plan all the time and that is supposed to help with weight loss. Then you do another phase where you add other carbs in gradually. I don't know much about that. But the information is all out there on the internet if you do a search. Or maybe you could find a used book on Amazon.

So to answer your questions, I didn't see anything that said you were supposed to eat any set amount of veggies, or any certain proportion, just that you have some of each on the protein veggie days. It's possible that the 2:1 ratio worked best for that person and that's what they recommended. People are all different, and I would just do whatever gives you the rate of weight loss you want.

You are welcome to hang out here with us. We all seem to do our own plans and just like to give each other support for whatever plan we're on. The person who started the thread has been absent for a long time, so it has evolved into just a general discussion. It's always more interesting when there are more participants.

It seems that the 3FatChicks forum has been not nearly as active as it used to be. I don't know why. I miss some of the former posters.

milacikova 11-07-2016 02:22 PM

Carol Sue Wannabe,

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question in so much detail! It's valuable help. Also, I agree with you, it seems that people have been very busy in their lives, to the detriment of the forum. Anyway, I would certainly love to hang out, even if it's just an elite crowd now;) Have been in hospital and as a result, lost more weight, although that is not the route I would recommend...
I love your racing snail ticker! You've already lost 30% of your goal, haven't you? That's amazing!

Mila

Rosinante 12-03-2016 04:50 AM

Wbh, thank you for poking me!!

It's been a rough 8 weeks, because my elderly mother has been hospitalized all that time, and none of us live that close to the hospital, so the driving and visiting has been intense, never mind the worry. The worry has abated to some degree because (sorry to drop a gloom-bomb) we now know that she's in the end-of-life phase, and next week we have a meeting with the hospital to decide where she will go next. I'm sad but no longer worried, if that makes sense.

So, I've managed to visit her regularly, I've managed to deal with medical authorities, I've managed to maintain mental equilibrium, which is a big worry after the crash of '13, I've managed to sleep well! What I haven't managed to do is eat sensibly or walk enough. I've regained 30lbs and I'm annoyed but apparently not annoyed enough to maintain the determination that I eat with every breakfast. I will try again today, promise!!!!!

:carrot:

Wannabehealthy 12-09-2016 10:39 AM

Sorry to hear of your mother's illness, Rosinante. I know there are some times when you have to accept that someone has had a long and good life and the end is near. I pray that she goes peacefully and does not suffer. That's all we can ask for our loved ones. And I pray that you find peace when the time comes.

I am back up into the 200s, about an 8-10 lb gain. I usually bounce back down quickly, but this has lasted several months. I hate the thought that this has become the new setpoint. I was in the 100s for so long. I know that one big healthy push for a week or so would do it, so I have to set my mind to that.

This thread seems to have died out.

Rosinante 12-12-2016 02:16 AM

Thank you, WBH!

Mum died on Thursday night. She just ceased. In a couple of hours one of my brothers, who's come up from down south, is driving us over to the undertaker's, about an hour away, and then on to the minister, to get the funeral organized. I ran round York like an adrenalin-driven idiot, getting all the legal paperwork done, and making sure we got a funeral date booked in at the crematorium.

Sadly, I don't lose my appetite when stressed, quite the opposite, but am aware of a big anxiety being lifted from my shoulders, so I'm hoping sensible eating will kick in soon.

Wannabehealthy 12-12-2016 10:02 PM

Rosinante, I am very sorry to hear that your mother passed away. May she rest in peace. I understand how much there is involved with arranging a funeral. It can be very stressing, but I also understand the stress that has been lifted by her passing. Her suffering is over. You will do what you have to do to get through this funeral, and you will get back to eating on plan afterwards.

Hugs to you! {{{{:hug:}}}}

Rosinante 12-14-2016 04:19 AM

Thank you, Carol Sue.

It's been a busy few days but I'm happy with the service we've put together for her. Next Tuesday morning, followed by breakfast.

I'll just keep trying not to completely overeat, and re-start dieting proper in the new year. Trouble is, I do find carbs comforting!

Wannabehealthy 12-21-2016 12:03 PM

Rosinante, I think we all find carbs comforting, but I don't know why, really. It is just food. I believe there is some answer to that, about how sugar increases some feel-good hormone, or something like that. As we are sensitive to carbs, we must find our own way to work on that, to avoid the carbs in larger quantities.

I hope your mother's service went well yesterday, along with the breakfast. May she rest in peace. I am sure she is looking down and appreciating all that you've done for her.

Rosinante 12-22-2016 01:39 PM

Thankyou, CarolSue.

The service did go well, and the breakfast!

I climbed on the scales this morning, and, although I have regained about 42lbs - I'd lost 79, so all is not completely lost! From today, I try again.

Good luck on your journey too! :carrot:

Wannabehealthy 12-24-2016 06:33 AM

Yes, the loss of 79 far outweighs the gain, Rosinante. I'm sure you will get back on track and lose it again.

Have a safe and blessed Holiday.

Rosinante 12-28-2016 06:57 AM

Thankyou, :)

OK, now from today I really start again!

WannaB2cute 12-29-2016 09:15 AM

I didn't read through all the pages hopefully will do that today but I think I might follow the OP plan

Wannabehealthy 12-29-2016 07:07 PM

Wannabcute, Jacqui did very well with that plan. I don't know why she stopped posting. Good luck to you.

I'm glad you mentioned that! Somehow I'd never read OP's diet, and it sounds rather good. May give it a go.
Good luck :carrot:

Wannabehealthy 01-01-2017 02:22 PM

Rosinante, Jacqui was the one who started this thread originally, based on the 4 Hour Body Diet, also called the Slow Carb Diet. She tweaked it to suit her eating style and it worked really well for her. I tried it, but I couldn't stick to it. She ate no starchy carbs or sugar for 6 days and then had one day a week when she could eat whatever she wanted. The original diet the way it's written has a few more rules, but that's the gist of it.

Happy New Year to you, and anyone else who may be lurking.

motivated1977 01-09-2017 05:53 AM

Hi, Happy New Year everyone! Sorry for being MIA; things were crazy around the holidays. I am following the OP's plan and I really enjoy it. It seems to be the only plan that I can stick to and actually see results.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Breakfast- low carb protein shake
Lunch- Grilled chicken, bean and veggie salad
Dinner- burgers wrapped in lettuce, bean and veggie salad
Snacks- almonds, lots of water
Exercise- 45 minutes of walking (to and from work), 1 hour pilates class

Rosinante 01-17-2017 03:07 AM

How is everybody doing?

I am plodding on, and have now lost (re-lost) 8.4lbs since December 28th, just a day short of 3 weeks. I'm pleased with that.
I'm eating eggs, plain roast meat and veg, salads, a little cheese, some Greek yogurt, casseroled meats or fish. I do seem to be very sensitive to carbs: either even something "healthy" like oats for breakfast or brown rice with a casserole sucks in a lot of water and I get puffy ankles, or one taste of something more processed makes my cravings spike ~ I ate a small amount of pastry last week, and became virtually rabid for more and more carbs.

I'm trying to re-lose as much as I can as quickly as I can before the end of March, when I plan to visit the diabetes nurse. I should have gone in December but was too embarrassed. I can do this!

Good luck, everyone :carrot:

PrairieQueen 01-19-2017 12:57 PM

I'm back!

Hi everyone!

I've read through the comments and hope all is doing well. Sorry to hear about your mum, Rosinante. I see Jacqui has not returned. . . I hope all is well with her and her family.

I gained a few "luxury" pounds over the holidays as hubs and I were both off work. We went to a lot restaurants and opened a lot of bottle of wines at the house! Today I was finally back down to my 133.8 ATL, so I thought I'd get back on here to try and get to my 130 lb goal.

Bro and mom was here and bro is doing really well, except his back surgery hasn't completed fixed his problem, but hopefully a solution is in the near future. Friend is doing well now after her double mastectomy and she didn't have to have chemo or radiation therapy.

Laters!

Rosinante 01-25-2017 03:36 AM

Just dipping in to see how folks are doing.

I've lost 11.8lbs in 4 weeks, which I'm pleased about.
I'm keeping my carbs under 100g, sometimes around 60-80g.
All the carbs are from fruit and veg, except on Wednesday and Saturday, which are my weigh-days, when I run mad and have oats for breakfast or rice for dinner. Living large! I'm very carb sensitive in the sense of them easily making me retain water, even the "good" carbs! Let alone if I try a "bad" carb, which just makes me want to eat a bucketful of dreadful carbs!! :D

love2b150 01-31-2017 02:41 PM

Hello All  how is everyone ...

Rosinante sad read of your Mom passing ... I with Carol Sue on all that she said. good job on the 79lbs :)

PrairieQueen glad your brother is doing well. Will he consider another surgery? or try physical therapy (forgive me if that's a stupid question) :( Yay on no radiation or chemo for your friend, glad she's doing well.

Motivated I need to get back on Jacqui's plan ... I did well but I can't do the free day ... it sends me back to day one every time :dizzy:

Rosinante 02-01-2017 03:16 AM

Hi  love2b150 :)

Hope you're well and doing ok.

Today's a weighday, and I've lost 14.3lbs since December 28th, which I'm very pleased about, just passed the British stone, which is a great milestone.

Big hugs and good luck to all of us

love2b150 02-01-2017 06:00 PM

Hi Rosinante ... I'm doing well. :congrat: on losing the stone :high:

I got on the scale this morning as I typically do at the beginning of the month and I saw that horrible 9 I had hoped to never see again. I weighed in at 190.5. I'm gonna have to reign it in or it's gonna just get worse. I decided today was the last day for my Bojangles breakfast biscuit and I went to Speedway and actually passed up the yellow Hostess Zingers that I so love  It's not much but it's a start ...

Today's meals were

B ~ coffee, caramel corn on the way in at 2am
..... at 6:30am~Bojangles bacon, egg, cheese biscuit, water about 8ozs
L ~ Burger king double cheese burger meal, small fry, diet Dr pep
D ~ 3 deviled eggs, 16oz water

this is just for accountability ... tomorrow will be much better ... I'm gonna try to post daily :crossed:

love2b150 02-02-2017 04:23 PM

Ok here's my day ...

02/02 ~ 189.8 (-0.3) no crappy eating late is the only thing I can think of

B ~ 1.5 deviled eggs, 2 sl beef bologna
L ~ 2 sl deli Amer cheese, 1 pk Buddig honey turkey, 1/2 salmon cake
S ~ caramel corn (too much I'm sure)
D ~ IDK but it's gotta be soon

2 - 16.9oz bottles of water

fatmommy 03-02-2017 01:59 AM

Hi everyone......I think it's my very first post here.
I wasn't even aware I had registered at 3FC ever......but when I tried to create a profile today....I was directed to retrieve my password for my account...
I hate my username....must have been a low point when I came registered.....anyway I can change it?

Anyways my introduction in my next post....

fatmommy 03-02-2017 02:05 AM

So have been reading the slow carb diet thread....am on the 3rd one.....and decided enough is enough I would like to be part of this group to get motivation from you all.....and also help in any way I can.

I have been overweight most of my life. Successfully lost weight twice to regain it both times. I'm Indian so my menu will be slightly different from you all but not very much so.

I have been doing my version of low cal since last 3 days.....today is day 4 and have dropped 5lbs. All water am sure.

So in my version am trying to keep carbs below 100gms........no other food restrictions for now.

So if I decide to have rice on a certain day then I can have no high carb item for that day.
