Rennie, I did see that you were preparing for a colonoscopy but were going to start the liquid diet a day ahead of time. I didn't mention it because I thought maybe you didn't want to talk about it. I DO read you posts!! I could tell you about my experience with the prep while I was wearing the colostomy bag, but that is definitely TMI! LOL What an experience that was!

We went to Red Robin one time when they first opened here and didn't like it, so we never went back. We have also never been to 5 Guys. We go to the same restaurants over and over, where DH is comfortable. He is so picky. I guess I should consider that a complement since he picked me. LOL

Tomorrow is my doctor's appointment to discuss my "slightly abnormal" stress test. Waited 2 weeks wondering what he's going to say. Why couldn't he just tell me over the phone instead of making me wait 2 weeks.

Rosinante, in our hospital, you don't wear any undies. Just the hospital gown. You can't have any modesty there.

I sympathize with you, having to wait until the 18th for your repeat testing. It's so hard to wait not knowing what the outcome might be.

Rosinante 06-24-2016 03:26 AM

Hm, a few of us dancing around tests and results and procedures. Akh, but good on us for sticking as hard as we can to our eating principles as we weight oops, typo, wait

Wannabehealthy 06-25-2016 07:19 AM

My doctor told me that the "slighly abnormal" results of my test were wrong, and it is his opinion, it was a good test. He said I could possibly get a second opinion and another doctor might see the abnormality. I am taking his opinion, because I feel good. If I had symptoms, I might get that second opinion. I hope that's not a mistake, but I know what symptoms to watch for. I've been through this several times before.

Rosinante, I did not stick to my eating principals yesterday. I ate so many fatty, carby foods that I have not had for a long time, and I felt terrible all evening. They tasted good while I was eating them, but I had forgotten how those foods make me feel, afterward. I sure hope I don't do that again!

I hope we all get good test results!

 Carol Sue, I'm pretty much open to talk about anything :) I didn't know what was going to take place. I felt like I was gonna have major surgery. I had to have a driver that had to stay in the facility the whole time or they would reschedule. I had to be sedated (knocked me out cold) they said that only happens to some. They woke me up 3 times and before all of this they told me I couldn't drive for 24 hrs. That part wasn't told to me so I'm sure my manager isn't very happy with me. I called out because I drank that mixture of stuff that did everything to me and then my husband had to call yesterday :( good thing though because I just woke up at 9:30. I haven't slept like that in a long time.

Carol Sue in my experience with restaurants when they first open the food is always awful. It's like the pan (cooking things) are too new. Like cast iron it needs to be seasoned ;) You should try them again :) All I had was a burger and fries I think but as long as the burger is done and seasoned well, I'm good :) I like burgers :) My kids don't like five guys, so I don't go there and the burger isn't worth the money and who wants a bag of greasy fries (not us) my opinion of course :) When we eat out with my husband we go to the same restaurant because he's picky but as long as they have chicken, turkey or tuna or beef that isn't costly he can find something :) He ate a turkey wrap yesterday which totally surprised me, and he commented "it's not bad, it's pretty good" I thought, he's growing up :D

Carol Sue, that is cute, your Hubby did pick/choose YOU :) Hope you hear good news from the doctor :crossed:

love2b150 06-25-2016 11:02 AM

Rosinante, I over looked the part about waiting a month. I'm sorry you have to wait so long also. My next appointment isn't until September but my doctor wants the weight down by then. I hope I can make her happy with at least 15lbs gone. I'm gonna try and the dietitian should help with that :)

Carol Sue glad you know what symptoms to look for ... good for you on the results. Did you ask why they didn't tell you on the phone? We all have days like you had yesterday, just a bump in the road ... hope you have a good day today :crossed:

I think it went well, the nurse told me that you only have to do it every 10 yrs if everything looks ok and they told me they'd see me in 10 yrs. GOOD because I don't wanna repeat that prep any time soon, yuk!! :)

Yea, it's one of those things you'd rather have done sooner but they need to wait to see if the level of whatever it is that's raised has gone down again, so I have to wait. Heyho.

15lbs by September - that's a lot! Good luck with it but don't beat yourself up if you don't exactly to it, whatever we manage to lose is better than holding onto it :carrot:

Elizanh 06-25-2016 02:49 PM

I'm new and I'm here too!

Thanks for being here as well.
How do you post a ticker here?
Thanks

love2b150 06-25-2016 04:19 PM

Rosinante, it seems like a lot but in my experience you lose about 6-10lbs of water when you first start out so it may be doable if I can stay focused. When I started my journey in 2010. I lost 30lbs from 5/27-9/13 I think ... just eating right and walking. If I can get that drive back again, I think I can do it again. We shall see :) Praying your levels go down

Elizanh, in order to get a ticker, you have to be a member 20 days to the exact minute you started/joined and have 20 post. :)

PrairieQueen 06-26-2016 12:44 PM

Happy Sunday everyone! Wow, I hadn't realized I'd been gone for so long. I see everyone is having tests and checkups, including me. Rosinante sending positive vibes your way as you wait. Carol Sue glad to hear that "abnormal" was actually normal. Rennie glad it's over... You are so much braver than me! I had a checkup Thursday and I "declined" the referral for a colonoscopy. I told them I wasn't "ready" yet. I did take the orders for the blood work and mammogram.

I went to a very long auction yesterday and got a few "steals." I now have another furniture project waiting for me, but I'm excited about it. I also picked up some retro Libby glasses in their holder, vintage linens, old Pyrex and some more muffin pans and cookie sheets. There's another auction in town in two weeks I'm going to as well. I hear it's loaded with goodies.

Whenever I have a successful auction day we usually go out to dinner that night, and we did last night...yum!

Yesterday...
Break - leftover piece of homemade pizza
Lunch - natural peanut butter on sourdough
Snack - two kiwis
Dinner - salad, 6 oz. sirloin, sweet potato fries
Snack watching the musicians - two craft ciders :)

I promised hubs buttermilk pancakes this morn, so I had to have some too w/bacon. He will not eat meat with his pancakes. The English think we're weird for doing so. I love it! However, I'm paying for it already as the pure maple syrup has done a number on my digestion....

love2b150 06-26-2016 01:41 PM

Sorry PrairieQueen but I have to laugh at the maple syrup and your digestion  You didn't go through the colonoscopy prep but you are doing exactly what I did on on Thursday and Friday, that made me smile when I read it  Now with that said I wish I could be there for the pancakes. I love them with pork sausage patties so good  Good job on your auction finds. :)

PrairieQueen 06-26-2016 07:34 PM

Break - pancakes, maple syrup, bacon
Lunch - philly cheesesteak on sourdough
Snack - two kiwis
Dinner - barbecue pork shoulder, potato pancake, green beans, caramel truffle

All small portions, of course.

Wannabehealthy 06-27-2016 10:28 AM

I haven't had a pancake for so long, and I love them. But just with butter, no syrup. Food is not supposed to taste sweet, unless it's dessert. I have my own quirks! LOL

PQ and Rosinante, I have a question about the English eating habits that maybe one of you can answer. My maternal grandfather was from England, and my mother told me that he never allowed bread served at a meal that includes potatoes. This was many, many years ago when my mother was growing up, so I really don't think it had anything to do with watching carbs. Is this an English custom, or just a quirk of my grandfather's?

Rosinante 06-27-2016 12:59 PM

Haven't heard of that one, WBH!!

On reflection, I think we probably didn't eat bread with a potato meal but I think it was because the main meal of the day was called Dinner in my childhood household and was eaten in the middle of the day; it was the meat and two veg kind of meal, with some kind of dessert; the evening meal was called Tea in my childhood household, and was more likely to be sandwiches of some kind, with some kind of cake. So I guess it just wouldn't have occurred to us to have bread at lunch time, the more I think about it, it would have felt a bit odd but there was no rule about it, it just didn't arise!

ps We're a Scottish family but I would imagine the English were the same in the 50s and 60s....

Yes, just the same as Rosinante. I still call those meals dinner (sometimes lunch) and tea.

And  Rosinante!

PrairieQueen 06-27-2016 04:15 PM

Carol Sue hubs would love it if I gave him bread and potatoes at the same meal! Along with the others we call our evening meal "tea" even though it is the biggest meal of day through the week at our house. If it's late, it's called "supper," and desserts are slways called "pudding." Hubs has been in the US nine years now and calls his lunch "lunch" now. He does have quirks with eating....utensils at the 4 o'clock on plate when finished, sandwiches and just about everything eaten with knife and fork, a bite of chocolate after lunch and tea, etc. but he thinks the Americans are strange as well.

I dropped almost a pound overnight..... a little over a pound to get back to my pb of 138.8. I'm hoping to get to 129.8 by Christmas. If I didn't not I'm ok with it, but I have such a small frame I really should drop a little bit more. I've done well with the calories and water today. I've hardly done any activity today though compared to my usual. I' may go out in garden after dinner....the weeds are calling.

Rosinante 06-28-2016 03:18 AM

 Silverbirch. Long time!! How are you doing?

On further reflection on the bread thing, I think if we'd asked for bread with our Dinner (lunch) it would have implied that the meal wasn't big/filling enough, and that would have certainly offended Mum!!

silverbirch 06-28-2016 07:21 AM

Rosinante, all right, thank you. But still here, with a complicated life and with too much weight. More in fact. It's a continual struggle. You're doing so well! Many congrats! :D

Wannabehealthy 06-28-2016 09:03 AM

Now that I think of it, my mother also told me that my grandparents ate their largest meal in the middle of the day. I didn't realize that was an English tradition, but thought it coincided with my grandfather's work schedule. Ate the big meal before leaving for work. I think Americans eat the largest meal in the evening because of the typical 9-5 work schedule. I know some people who eat their largest meal in the middle of the day, and I think that is healthier. Not going to bed with a full stomach.

DH prefers the largest meal in the evening, and often that's the only meal he eats.

When I was growing up, my mother made a lot of home made bread every Saturday. We ate bread at most meals for the purpose of filling us up, since other food was scarce. Many times lunch was just bread spread with whatever we had, usually jelly or apple butter.

I remember hearing about "tea" and thinking it was just that......a cup of tea!

JesikaBeth 06-28-2016 09:06 AM

Just wanted to wish everyone a fantastic Tuesday :)

Rosinante 06-28-2016 09:33 AM

I'm talking 50+ years ago, mind! Things may be different for families now, I don't know (don't have one). The evening meal, which I call dinner but my Sortofpartner still calls tea, is my biggest meal now; and with lowcarb, none of them involve bread lol!

love2b150 06-28-2016 10:21 AM

Good morning Everyone

:) Backatcha' JesikaBeth

I miss you Jacqui

weight up 2.2lbs thanks to my Dominos dinner

PrairieQueen 06-28-2016 12:02 PM

Good afternoon everyone! Slowly but surely the weight is leaving again. I'm 1.2 lbs away from my all-time low this morning! This is is less than what I started off with May and anything from June. I can do this :) AF is due to visit any time now so maybe I'll get a big whoosh afterwards....fingers crossed. We'll be going out for dinner tonight so I'll have to behave, I guess. I got two plus hours of gardening in this morn as well.....none yesterday.

Yesterday....
Break - pancakes and bacon again but less of
Lunch - guacamole w/whole grain nut crackers, strawberries
Dinner - sirloin steak, potato pancakes, cilantro-lime black beans, lite beer

love2b150 06-28-2016 06:50 PM

:bravo: PrairieQueen GO YOU :high:, I'm so happy for you ... :congrat: on being so close to your all time low. What a great feeling I'm sure

Rosinante 06-29-2016 04:33 AM

Well done, PQ! Great job!

PrairieQueen 06-29-2016 08:26 PM

Evening everyone! Thanks Rennie and Rosinante! I lost another 0.4 lb overnight even with the dinner out but I did do another hour in the garden for a total of three yesterday. Aunt Flo stopped by tonight as predicted. Usually I'm up right before and during...I'm expecting the scale to be up a little tomorrow. I'll be drinking extra water tonight.

Most of you know I love to cook and try to recreate yummy meals that I've had in restaurants.....So tonight I tried to recreate a French meal that I had while on vacation. I tweaked it a little and it was soooo good. It was hard not to overeat. I'll be making it again.

Break - two paninos, two potato pancakes
Lunch - grilled cheese on sourdough
Snack - two kiwis
Dinner - roast chicken w/Breton sauce, dauphinoise potatoes, garden salad

JesikaBeth 06-30-2016 10:41 AM

love2b150 had asked me on another thread I started to post some of what I eat to keep my carbs low (I eat around 80-ish carbs a day)

* Banana Egg Pancakes (A bit higher in carb, but very tasty... mash up bananas and eggs, add some cinnamon and nutmeg and cook in a pan like regular pancakes! Quite tasty!)

* Protein Shakes: I drink Spirutein Vanilla

* NoGii gluten free (I have Celiac Disease) Peanut Butter and Chocolate High Protein Bar

* YOGURT! I'm a yogurt Fanatic, LOL

* Strawberries (surprisingly not high in carb, I have 3 or 4 for a snack)

* For dinners we have a meat and a veggie. Sometimes we use the vegetti and make squash noodles for feux spaghetti

love2b150 06-30-2016 12:47 PM

PrairieQueen you are a chef at heart  Your meals always make me hungry

Thanks JesikaBeth for posting what you'd eat in a day. :)

SassyPants posted this for me on the thread that JesikaBeth started ... (hope it's ok to share)

a few examples of my menus...I do tend to eat a lot of the same things

Breakfast:
black coffee
cottage cheese

snack:
2 slices foster farms turkey + 1 wedge of laughing cow cheese split between the two. Eat as rollups

Lunch:
salad made with lettuce, cucumber, red/orange/yellow mini bell peppers, hard boiled egg, 3 oz chicken, ranch, pico de gallo (sometimes I dice the chicken into the salad, sometimes I eat the salad and then have the chicken on the side)

Snack:
3 meatballs (armour brand is cheap and tasty. 1 minute in the micro for a quick snack)

Dinner:
Chicken breast with spices (pepper/garlic) I buy the individually frozen breasts at Costco
sautéed zucchini, squash and red/yellow orange bell peppers
carbmaster yogurt (I buy this at Fred Meyer. Delicious! Variety of flavors)

Snack:
carb smart ice cream bar
Total calories: 1014 Total carbs: 46.8 Total protein: 122.7

Example #2:

breakfast:
coffee with 1/2 + 1/2
Leftover hamburger patty from the dinner night before. 1/2 slice melted cheese on top..

snack:
1 serving mixed nuts - Costco brand

lunch:
3 meatballs with sautéed squash and red/yellow/orange bell pepper

snack:
1 wedge laughing cow cheese

dinner:
salad with lettuce, cucumber, 6 cherry tomatoes, red/yellow/orange bell peppers, ranch
chicken breast with spices

snack:
raw cauliflower

total calories: 1059 total carbs: 39.1 total protein: 97.5

I think these are easy enough to do and I would only substitute the cottage cheese

weigh in this morning down 1.9 not sure how but ok, it usually comes back the next day, smh

PrairieQueen 06-30-2016 02:34 PM

Congrats Rennie on the loss! You're right about being a "rustic" chef at heart, esp. in summertime. I'm going for quality, not quantity, and hubs is finally caching on. Tonight, I'm trying a pimento cheese-stuffed meatloaf.....still have some of last year's ground beef to use up.

love2b150 07-01-2016 04:08 PM

:) and the freshness to go along with it  Will the pimento cheese be in the center or through out? PrairieQueen and just like I knew I would be up this morning 1.2lbs to 183.0 but good news. I got on the treadmill for 30 minutes for the first time in forever, yay me :)

PrairieQueen 07-01-2016 06:22 PM

Yay you on the exercise Rennie! Before you know it, you'll be on there every night :) The cheese is throughout, and it was really good. You pat out meatloaf mix into rectangle on parchment or aluminum foil. Then you "spread" cheese as best you can and roll up like you're making a pumpkin roll.

Yesterday ....
Break - leftover chicken/potaties
Snack - strawberries
Lunch - more leftover chicken/potatoes
Dinner - cheese stuff meatloaf, smashed potatoes, garden salad

I was up on scale this morning, but only by 0.2 lbs.....I'm sure it'll be a little more tomorrow with AF and all the potatoes.

Today....
Break - leftover meatloaf
Snack - strawberries
Lunch - more leftover meatloaf
Dinner - pan-fried boneless pork chop w/garlic, onion, lemon, and mushrooms, stuffed mushrooms, garden salad (I had a bunch of 'shrooms that needed to be eaten)
Snack - Friday night adult beverage x2

My neighbor and I got caught n the rain during our walk this morning, but we managed to get 1.5 miles in. We were drenched by the time we got to shelter. At least it was somewhat warm.

love2b150 07-01-2016 07:52 PM

Thanks PrairieQueen :) You did great, 3 servings of potatoes and up .2 is really good. :high: Good job on your walk in the rain, I'm glad it was warm also :) No summer colds.

PrairieQueen 07-02-2016 11:14 AM

Happy weekend all! Rosinante, Carol Sue, Rennie, Jacqui, Patti, Jesika

We're having pleasant weather here today, high of 77 and sunny. Hubs put up the screened gazebo and put a table in it so we can eat outside bug-free. We're going to a friends on the Fourth, but decided to do our dining until then outdoors and grilled.

Everyone on here and in my circle of friends keeps talking about zoodles. I have to try them. My zukes were planted a little late so they're not ready for a couple of weeks, so I guess I'm going to have to either buy them pre made or buy some zukes. I have the equipment, it's just doing it. I love pesto and figure I should give them a go with it. I plan on getting the new kitchenaid aid attachment as I can use it to prep my apples much faster than using my reliable (but slow) tabletop contraption. It also will make my curly fries.

Sending everyone self-control vibes for the eating fests that seem to accompany the holiday weekend. I'm gonna hit the outlets today or tomorrow:carrot:

Laters!

Wannabehealthy 07-02-2016 01:33 PM

PQ, I forgot about pesto! I tried it once with my zoodles and I loved it. I never made my own pesto because I am the only one who eats it and it's hard to make a small amount. I buy a little jar in Aldi's and that suits me just fine.

I also want to try zoodling a small sweet potato but then I'm not sure how I will prepare it. I can't believe that for 60 years I did not eat sweet potatoes because the only way I ever saw them prepared was candied, with all the brown sugar and marshmallows. That never appealed to me, but now I've started ordering baked sweet potatoes or sweet potato fries in restaurants and I love them!! DH doesn't eat them, naturally. I have no idea how we ever got together. LOL Of course, if I was married to a foodie like myself, I would weigh 600 lbs. You'd be seeing me on TV. Or in the circus.

I got 2 new recipes, one for spinach, and one for sweet potatoes. I will post them on the recipe thread. They are not necessarily diet recipes, but healthy because they are for veggies.

love2b150 07-03-2016 09:01 AM

Ladies enjoy your weekend :)

PrairieQueen 07-03-2016 10:55 AM

Rain, rain, rain! Supposedly, it's here every day until next Saturday or Sunday. No cookout tonight with DD and BF. They were going to go kayaking close by and head to our plac afters, but it's a no go all the way around. DH and I did grill last night though. I hope everyone else's plans are still intact. We're going to a farmer friend's tomorrow, but they have giant canopies already set up.....200 peeps usually attend.

I thought the scale was going to punish me this morn, but alas, it was unchanged from yesterday. I sucked down 36 ounces of water before bed though to flush things through, and I walked a lot at the outlets. Lazy day inside today with the four-legged babies and hubster. Take care!

Yesterday ...
Break - 3 slices bacon, 1-egg omelette
Snack - 2 kiwis
Lunch - grilled cheese
Dinner - bacon cheeseburger, balsamic oven fries
Snacks - lite beers

love2b150 07-03-2016 05:04 PM

it's been raining a lot here. Trees have been uprooted, power outages, a mess. It rains so hard you can barely see while driving. Enjoy your lazy day. It's the same here with my daughter, just enjoying a lazy day :)

Rosinante 07-04-2016 03:26 AM

Lots of rain here in England too. For the first time in 61 years I'm trying to get into gardening, and have planted out some bulbs in long troughs. Although most of them are doing their best, their troughs keep filling up like paddy fields......

Happy 4th of July, all!

love2b150 07-04-2016 02:20 PM

Rosinante, enjoy your gardening :) and hopefully the rain isn't too much for them.

PrairieQueen 07-04-2016 06:00 PM

Evening all! Hope everyone had a nice holiday. It rained before and after our friends' annual bash....so ended up being a good day. They had games for the kids, lots of food (I ate beforehand so I would stay OP), an antique parade/hayride, and lots of good conversation. Tonight, there are fireworks at one of the local parks that we can see from the back of our property :) I stayed within my calories but I didn't get a lot of activity in today. Tomorrow is supposed to be rain-free now, so I can catch up on the activity in the garden.

Keeping everyone's medical issues in my thoughts and sending everyone healing vibes.

Yesterday....
Break - omelette, bacon
Snack - strawberries
Dinner - lemon/mushroom chicken over pasta

Today....
Break - leftover chicken
Snack - strawberries
Lunch - leftover chicken
Snack - popcorn, lite beer
Dinner - two brats, one bun, garden salad

(Down 0.8 lbs for July)
