Here I Go!

First, great job everyone! I can't wait to start posting my weight loss!

I have decided to weigh myself once a week.. I think doing it every day might be a mental problem for me.. maybe once I see a significant loss, I might go every day.

So, I started today. This is what I had for Breakfast, which, felt like I was cheating since I have previously been doing Weight Watchers and didn't eat anything fried:

2 Eggs (cooked in the bacon fat)
4 pieces of Bacon
1/2 Cup Refried Beans
Coffee with Heavy Cream

I bought some Torani's Sugar Free French Vanilla Flavoring Syrup for my coffee, I didn't use it on my first cup, but I want to try it on a second cup, I probably won't even drink it all as I normally only have 1 cup in the morning, I just want to give it a try. I've used it before, it's a bit strange when you go from fat free to sugar free because of all the sugar you get used to.. but I'm sure my taste buds will adjust..

So how did I do?

So, do you all think I will go through that low carb flu? Did any of you get sickly? How did you get through it and how long does it last?

OH, I had my husband do my measurements this morning before breakfast.. yuk! lol

Thanks Jacqui, :) I'm so glad you are not feeling ill in anyway other than a heavy tummy, but a good bm will cure that ;) No I didn't dare touch the doughnuts or the spaghetti. Since my oldest son wasn't supposed to be eating a solid dinner I told my middle son to only make enough for himself, his brother and sister that don't really eat much and my husband. Well he over made as usual and my oldest son decided "I'm hungry and he made some extra so I'm gonna eat!" and he did. I didn't hear anything about his weigh in but as soon as we got out of church I heard, "Are we going to the gym?" when we went on Friday my oldest son hadn't had enough on his stomach and started to feel nauseous. I told him to do one meal in the middle of the day but he didn't that day. Today he had a smoothie and some aidells chicken meatballs so he'll be fine :) 170.5 … Jacqui if I could just see that number but mine will say 170.4 or .6 <--- big big grin :D Oh my husband loved the PM  thank you

Joe good for you on the weigh in :high: see you can do it and you did it. Hey I bought these "Snikiddy, eat your vegetables sour cream & onion (vegeatable heart, chip soul" things they are really delicious. They remind me of a chip but they don't make me want more, once I eat a few pieces since the $3.00 bag is mostly crumbs I am done. I ate them with hummus yesterday and spinach dip today, not bag. OR you can do pork rinds (if you eat them) in place of the chips with salsa, hummus, spinach dip at your outing. Modifications right? :) Just a thought :)

Pamela your breakfast sounds really good :) I've used those coffee flavorings before after awhile they start to seem sugary to me also so I had to stop. Sugar we see isn't my issue it's bread and chips ;). I think you are off to a great start. And yay on your for only weighing once a week. I'd go nuts :dizzy: I been doing it for so long it's crazy :)

Gary, you are a rack of information, thanks :)

B ~ green smoothie, grapefruit juice
L ~ 2 bean, cheese, salsa, unwraps (HM), eyv w/ spinach dip

I am full :)

Jacqui_D 01-19-2014 01:58 PM

Pamela, yay! You are off to a good start! Your breakfast looks great! :hungry: I personally never experienced a low-carb flu. Maybe my modifications, such as having creamy salad dressings and regular peanut butter, etc., prevented it. Maybe cheat day helps to offset it. I'm not sure. Did any of the rest of you get it? Oh my goodness, who is that adorable child in your avatar?! :D

Rennie, you are so welcome! And I'm so proud of you for avoiding that temptation! It paid off! :woohoo:

Gary, thank for the beans/legumes info! :cp:

Joe, great weigh-in! Have fun watching the game with your family today!

Pamela, I tried to find some information about the low-carb flu and I found an interesting article on 5 common mistakes low-carbers make, and it sounds like when people try to go low-carb AND low-fat, that's when they feel awful, because they leave themselves no source of energy. I eat nuts everyday, which is a good source of fat, so if that really is the cause, that may be why I never got the low-carb flu. Here's the article: http://authoritynutrition.com/5-most...carb-mistakes/.

pamela631 01-19-2014 05:14 PM

Thanks for that link Jacqui.. I like the idea of adding some chicken or beef broth for when you get hungry too, in between meals, and it's replinishing sodium too..

I'm probably going to have trouble with getting in all my water, I always have, it just makes me so full, then I can't hardly eat anything when it's time... I feel so bloated.. so I will have to see what I can do without feeling like that..

OH, that is a pic of me when I was little.. 5 years old.. Now see, another reason to lose weight, I can't stand pics of me.. I don't allow it, LOL

gfc781 01-19-2014 06:26 PM

Jacqui Good artical. little something on good fat's I didn't know. I was always why is the TV chef's alwys grabbing the olive oil.. I mean i have always had it on hand, but not crazy about the taste... Coming into this I re-read my paleo diet book The Primal Blueprint. He has a tip on olive oil, i didn't know. The olive oil you buy normal off the shelf taste like crap. Get olive oil off that is "cold pressed" "just once" and made in the USA, i picked up for $8.00 and it taste great, i drizzle a tbls on my salad's ect.

love2b150 01-19-2014 07:57 PM

Pamela Nope no low carb flu for me either but like Jacqui said it may be the add ins that have kept it at bay :) Pamela you were beautiful then and I am sure you are just as beautiful now. But I am with you all the way, I don't like any pictures of me. But as I get a little lighter they do look better at the right angle ;) I use to feel like that with water, it takes time to get use to it but you will especially if that is the only thing you drink. I can down it as long as it's room temperature. :) I was drinking organic chicken broth and vegetable broth, they're really good. I can use them as a meal replacement easily but I know that's not good :)

Jacqui, I think I'm going to do like you said and ask for the sugar to be taken away. It's no good for me I just want it when I see it. When I think about it, I don't crave it. Like today I went to buy cream of chicken soup and something for my middle son to eat before the gym (he gets really light headed because he doesn't have anything on his stomach) … then we end up in an ambulance because he is under nurished and dehydrated, he's 15 he knows better and still doesn't always eat and drink, keeps me on my toes after 4 epidsodes of the same craziness. I will save any sweets even on a special occasion for my cheat day. I can always have it later/then, right :D … huh I know me, I'll get it home and give it to one of the kids, that's a good thing. I found some healthy life bread that doesn't taste bad low carbs/calorie that I will save also for cheat day, along with my low carb tortillas. I am not a fan of brown rice but I do like wild rice and I'll definitely have to stir clear of mashed potatoes  … I think I've gotten carried away with talking to you so I'll be quiet for now :) but those are my add-ins after the 2nd of February. I hope to be at 169 by then :crossed:

B ~ green smoothie, grapefruit juice
L ~ 2 bean, cheese, salsa, unwraps (HM), eyv w/ spinach dip
D ~ protein smoothie, green tea

lots of water :)

Jacqui_D 01-19-2014 08:55 PM

Oh wow, I just realized this is the 6-month anniversary of my being on this diet! :woo: Lol!

Rennie, good for you! Absolutely save those things for cheat day! You'll be so happy you did! :cp: And I am so sorry to hear about your middle son's hypoglycemic reactions. My daughter has ended up in the hospital like that also. He really does need to eat. (Of course I know YOU know that.) There have been times when we've had a really tough time getting my daughter's hypoglycemia back under control. It just didn't want to level out. She tries to stay on top of it now. Of course, he's 15, and she's 24 now so she's has more time to figure it out, but even so, it still drops too low sometimes. Just keep reminding him!

Pamela, what Rennie said! That pic is just precious! What a cutie! And I'm another one who avoids having photos taken because of my weight. I do hope as we all continue to lose weight that we get over that. Our families deserve to have photos of us.

Gary, so what is the brand name of your olive oil and where do you buy it? I'd like to get the good stuff! :T

Hi all!
Slept great last night. Probably from sheer exhaustion! Gave my kitchen a major diet makeover that I feel really good about. Set up for success!

My cheat day was Friday and weighed in Sat morning at 182. Weighed in this morning at 180.8. And yes, WW is in the evening with clothes on and having had 2 meals and liquids during the day.

I did suffer big time from the low carb flu when starting IP, but I think because it is extremely low carb AND low cal. And they have you on so many vitamin pills that I felt really sick for the first couple of weeks. But sea salt helped.

Rennie- I've always had major wanderlust, but it is easier now that our kids are grown. Our youngest is 29. I'm also 52, like I think Jacqui said she was. And I'm a cancer survivor for over 10 years now so seize the opportunity when I can, just enjoying life! :)
